Posted: 21 Aug 2019 10:37 AM PDT Hi has anyone repasted the new helios 300(2019) model. If you have, will be willing to share the temperature difference or any perfomance improvement afterwards. If you have made a video on how to repaste that particular laptop that would be great. Thanks [link] [comments]
Posted: 21 Aug 2019 02:48 PM PDT Hey guys, needed a new laptop and decided to check Lenovo's X series. On their Canadian site, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon (5th Gen) in black is on sale for $1,219, $850 off from its regular price. However, in about 11 days, Lenovo is having a labour day sale with the ThinkPad X1 Carbon laptops– up to 45% off and the ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th Gen up to 45% off. My question is, should I go ahead and buy the X1 Carbon 5th gen right now off their website with the coupon code?, which will save me $850, or should I wait until their labour day sale promotion and see if i'll save more money that way? Need help deciding a laptop that fits my needs Posted: 21 Aug 2019 08:14 AM PDT So essentially I'm having trouble deciding on a laptop. There always seems to be something about it that turns me off. I'm interested in getting an ultra book preferably lighter than 4/3.5 lbs because I have to bring it around a LOT. However I play Minecraft and would like to be able to run the game at a smooth 60 frames+ on servers. My current surface laptop just doesn't do the job, getting 20-50 FPS on low settings (in Minecraft LOL) with 8GB RAM and an i5 processor, so I know I need something better than that. I'm pretty sure I need an MX150 and 16 GB to get the job done, but many 13 inch laptops don't have both. I thought I had found the one when I discovered the Razer Blade stealth, but when I looked at it in store my hands kept slipping off the laptop and I knew I could never buy it. Any ideas? Posted: 21 Aug 2019 01:56 PM PDT Hello, I'm trying to buy my dad a new laptop and I'm looking for laptop recommendations. I'm not getting him a macbook simply because I'm poor and he's so used to windows and can barley work his iPhone some days. I want it to be good quality and last a while but be under 1000 dollars. I'm thinking of either an Asus or an Leveno but I'm used to apple so idk anything about it. [link] [comments]
Looking for advice on a simple laptop. Posted: 21 Aug 2019 01:50 PM PDT Mainly used for searching the web, play DVD's using word, excel, etc. and easy to travel with. Looking to spend between $300 and $500. Any recomendations? Thank you in advance. [link] [comments]

Now i play some games on 30fps and after around 30 mins it start to lag and the frames drop and its not playable anymore. any thoughts? [link] [comments]
Do I really need Walmart's Protection Plan for my Acer laptop? Posted: 21 Aug 2019 01:46 PM PDT I bought an Acer Aspire 7 laptop last week from Walmart and I included a two year Walmart Protection Plan along with the purchase. I however learned that the protection plan is refundable for the next 30 days or so. I am considering if I am better off without the protection plan, and whether Acer has an automatic warranty that comes with every purchase which would basically render my Walmart Protection Plan useless. Can anyone enlighten me, please? Do I need the plan or not? [link] [comments]
Stripping HP Spectre x360 15 inch for the parts and selling them? Posted: 21 Aug 2019 01:36 PM PDT Here is the post I made regarding this laptop: https://www.reddit.com/r/laptops/comments/clxpwq/hp_spectre_x360_15_broken_chassis_from_fall/ Long story short, the laptop is no longer working (probably a motherboard issue - the caps lock key shows an error code with the lights, 5 long and 3 short). I want to sell the parts and recover some money and buy a new laptop. I want to know if it is more feasible to: 1) Take this laptop apart and sell the hard drive, processor, screen, ram, etc. 2) Sell "as is" so someone else can just strip it for the parts that they need. Asus Zenbook UX333FN Gpu thermal throttling Posted: 21 Aug 2019 11:35 AM PDT I've got an asus zenbook ux333fn in mid july this year, so far very satisfied with the pc, great for working and multimedia. It would be perfect, if not for a little problem of gpu thermal throttling. I tried to play some light games (simcity and minecraft) and no matter what, after 5-10 minutes the fps starts to drop every 1-2 minutes, the gpu clock goes instantly to the lowest (139MHz). I've tried everything, updating bios, drivers, using throttlestop to disable turbo boost, nothing has worked so far. Can someone suggest anything to solve the problem? [link] [comments]
Posted: 21 Aug 2019 06:02 AM PDT So i stupidly spilt a tiny bit of coffee on my laptop, it went on my keyboard but i was quick to turn it upside down and get a towel on it asap. Spent 10 mins shaking it gently and coffee came out of it ( from the keyboard and a bit from a port on the side) not much just a dribble. In the mean time it was still on with everything working for atleast 15 mins. I then turned it off to take the back off. Couldn't see any wet on the motherboard or anywhere there. Pretty sure it just hit the keyboard and seems pretty dry now as i cant get anymore liquid out of it. Its currently keyboard down on some paper towels, any thoughts on what to do next? Its my work laptop and ideally want to use it today lol [link] [comments]
Why would ASUS gimp the FX505 laptop line like this? Posted: 21 Aug 2019 09:43 AM PDT I have the DT version with an R7 3750H and a 1650. Before saying anything else, I should mention the laptop does not really overheat. I've tested it with Prime and Unigene benchmarks and there were no real issues with overheating. Though that does not mean it does not have cooling issues! Now that I've gotten that out of the way, I should say how baffled I am by the decision ASUS they made with the cooling solution for this laptop. I am mainly talking about the bottom lid of the thing. It literally has two fairly small holes on the bottom, one of which is about twice as small than the other one. There are a few issues with this I've found so far. The first one being that using a cooling pad actually increased my temps by about 1c. While you could say this is a margin of error it really isn't considering how consistent those changes were when I was testing. My cooling pad did not reduce the area of air inflow as it is a flat mesh but somehow it increased the temperature when not turned on. When I turned it on, it increased even more. This completely baffled me because you would think that even when not turned on the pad could not be worse than a flat surface but hey...it's actually a thing. Maybe my laptop and pad don't like each other. 1c is also not really worth that much attention so F it. What really amazed me was when I open the laptop to increase the RAM. I decided to run prime 95 while the laptop was open and HOLY SHIT THE TEMPS DROPPED BY 10C. Ten degrees Celsius!!! That is A LOT for any CPU or GPU out there. Why? Why would you make the air intake holes so few and so small that the laptop can't breathe as best as it could. What was ASUS afraid of? More dust intake? Did they not want to spend money on changing the mold from the FX504 and they wanted to reuse the thing? It would literally cost them pocket amount of money to modify the old one or if they cant, make a new one. Whatever it was, I can't say it's incompetence because well...they are making one of the most advanced pieces of tech on the planet but it definitely shows negligence, laziness and their lack of fuck that they gave. They probably said "Hey they wouldn't notice or care!" Well, I do! And a lot more other people do! I like my machine to run as best and as cool as possible. I like to get the most out of my money! I like to not lose frames, performance, noise and longevity, no matter how little I may lose, because someone decided not to do a proper job! They could have taken literally any design decision apart from literally reducing or removing the current vents and it would have been better. It's also worth mentioning that the same FX505 line with better specs than mine have the same bottom lid with the same air vents. They output even more heat and are suffocating even more than mine. I regret not taking any screens and I should have. I even considered opening the thing and testing again but one of the small plastic brackets holding the lid broke already even though I used one of those blue plastic things made for opening phones and laptops. I don't want to break any more for the sake of some pics... Overall, even if increasing the vent area does not reduce the temps by 10c as there will still be some resistance, I imagine it will still lower the temps by 5c, which in my book is still a major win! Edit 1 : I should correct myself about something. Even though one vent looks smaller both are actually about the same in area size! [link] [comments]
Can you recommend a docking station for connecting dual monitors to a gaming laptop? Posted: 21 Aug 2019 09:05 AM PDT Hi, I have an Acer Nitro 5 that I use for gaming purposes. I'm currently connecting two Dell screens to it, through a USB 3.0 plugable docking station. I only use the docking station to connect one screen, the other screen i connect directly to the laptop via HDMI since connecting both through the docking station cuts FPS by a lot and makes gaming much much harder. I also work from home a lot which means I connect my work laptop to my dual monitor setup come work time. It makes for a really annoying process having to disconnect and reconnect the docking station, HDMI monitor and charging cables everytime. So i was wondering if there was a docking station that could do all three (or at the least the first two which would be connecting both monitors to the station without losing any FPS or quality while gaming), so that i would really only have to disconnect and connect the docking station when changing laptops. From what I've read it seems like I have to go with an USB-C docking station, but I'm not too sure. Any recommendations greatly appreciated! [link] [comments]

Triton 500 CPU power limit throttle Posted: 21 Aug 2019 08:10 AM PDT Does anyone own Triton 500 and managed to increase the CPU PL2 from 45w because the best I can get is 3.6ghz on all core with -160Mv undervolt so increasing the powerlimit will allow me to hit full 4.0ghz of i7 9750h. But unfortunately I can't increase the powerlimit with Intel xtu or throttlestop has anyone managed to fix this issue or we just hope that Acer releases new bios with power limit increase like they did for Helios 500. Help with an SSD on HP Pavillion Posted: 21 Aug 2019 06:53 AM PDT Not sure if this is the right community but I decided to change my hard drive to and set it up with a recovery flash drive to install windows 10. However, now I usually have to have that flash drive plugged in in order to boot up or else the screen will go dark. It will tell me that it can't boot up as it doesn't seem to have a place to do it from if I understand it correctly. I made a partition on my SSD and uploaded the files from my recovery flash drive on it and tried to make the pathways as I didn't have that already. Is there another way to fix this issue or should I have not used a recovery flash drive in the first place? I don't mind having to wipe the SSD in order to set it up correctly. [link] [comments]
HP Envy SmartPlus 17" (17-j017cl) -- WiFi Upgradeable??? And, is my laptop Whitelisted??? Posted: 21 Aug 2019 05:57 AM PDT I have a HP Envy SmartTouch 17" Laptop that was born in the middle of 2013. 6 years ago, this laptop was everything I had dreamed of, but alas, times have changed! I have upgraded the operating system to Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, I've upgraded the RAM to 12GB, and recently upgraded the hard drive to a Samsung SATA 860 Evo (500GB) SSD with a freshly installed (non-HPish) copy of Windows. Even 6 years later, this (with the upgrades) is still a GREAT laptop! B U T . . .. The wireless adapter inside this machine hasn't really been relevant for at least a couple of years!!! It has a TERRIBLY UNRELIABLE, S L O W, Realtec RTL8188EE 802.11bgn - 2.4GHz (No 5G) Wireless Adapter, and in today's world of high speed data, it's really starting to show it's age!!! I want to know if I can UPGRADE my wireless adapter, as it's just a mini-PCIe card in an M.2 slot??? I would not have even had reservations about this, except that over the past few years, I've always heard that HP was trying to be sneaky, and LOCKING one into that particular piece of hardware -- That my BIOS is actual "Whitelisted" as to which cards HP will and will not allow me to install in MY machine?!?!?! I know there HAS to be a better solution than the 2.4GHz dinosaur that's in there now, even if it's an "older" upgrade ... I just don't know which better / more updated cards will actually work in my particular machine with my Whitelisted BIOS (which is HP's F.69 ver.A (sp79276.exe). So, I am asking all of you: . . . Is my machine, that I own, whitelisted? - AND - If so, which out of date card's has HP deemed me worthy of installing in to MY LAPTOP??? THANK YOU ALL SOOO MUCH!!! Sincerely, D. Byron Dickson, Jr. Also, I would like to ask, because I honestly don't know if it make a difference at this point, but since a couple of months ago when I did the Samsung SATA SSD Upgrade, I MADE SURE to do a CLEAN INSTALL ... But, I also did have to install some drivers & applications with HP's "version" of those drivers & software ... Even if I avoided HP's version of Windows 10 (BLOATWARE & registry hacks?!??!??), do you think I have just inadvertently reinstalled whatever hold they have (had?) over me, my operating system, and my hardware by using drivers & software off of HPs website as opposed to each individual manufacturer's drivers & software??? And, oddly enough, as of today when I checked, on http://parts.hp.com an HP SKUed Broadcom BCM4352 802.11ac 2x2 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 combination WLAN card (which is the BEST that HP could offer me as an upgrade that would come directly from them) costs: $53.01 + SHIPPING At the SAME TIME on Amazon.com, a BRAND NEW Intel Wi-Fi 6 (or 802.11ax) AX200NGW 2X2 MU-MIMO WiFi and Bluetooth 5.0 combination WLAN card costs ONLY: $$34.99 w/ FREE SHIPPING and a 5% OFF coupon at checkout! (I'm just saying . . .) [link] [comments]
Msi PS42 vs ZenBook UX434FL Which one should I chose ? Posted: 21 Aug 2019 02:04 AM PDT Hi I'm looking for a travel computer with good specs for coding video editing and video games. I found those twos who seems to fit my needs but I need your help to figure out which one is the best MSI ps42 8rc-002 : Intel core i7 8550u 8 go RAM GTX 1050 4go 14" Weight : 1.2kg 512go SSD Price : 1149euros Asus ZenBook ux434fl-a6012t Intel core i7 8550u 8go RAM Nvidai Mx250 2go 14" Weight : 1.4kg 512go SSD Screenpad Price : 999euros Basically the main difference is the GPU (and the screenpad but I don't care about it), but I don't know if it worths 150e and if there's a big difference between the both (I suppose the 1050 won't run at full power because it's a small computer) I head the msi's cpu is blocked at 2.7ghz, is that the same on the ZenBook ? Which one do you advise me to buy ? Thanks :) [link] [comments]
