I know this is a dumb question but where the heck is the battery on my HP laptop?? Posted: 19 Aug 2019 10:25 AM PDT For the past week my laptop will only charge when its in sleep mode. When its on it runs on the battery. I just want to take the battery out and put it back in to try to get it to work properly again (that's worked for me in the past) and I have no damn clue where the battery is. Its completely flat on the bottom and ever where else [link] [comments]

Asus Tuf FX 505dy Vs Acee Nitro 5 AN 515-43 Posted: 19 Aug 2019 11:03 AM PDT I'm looking forward to buy anyone of these laptops. Both have same specs ( Ryzen 5 3500H and RX 560x ). Which one should I go for and why ? [link] [comments]
[help] need a laptop with gaming as a secondary priority Posted: 19 Aug 2019 10:31 AM PDT so, i need a laptop as a student going to college, and i'm definitely not gonna have a desktop for a long time. because of this, i'm trying to pick a thin-ish laptop that i can carry around and use in class(or anywhere else where gaming isn't really appropriate) and such, but can also hook up to a charger and play some games. i'm not trying to have anything super thick and flashy. none of my games are too high-end as i'm coming from a desktop with a 750Ti anyways, and i'm fine with turning down the settings and resolution a bit as long as it still looks presentable. personally i've been looking into the Razer Blade Stealth 2019 and the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro. both looking clean and minimal, having the i7, a 1080p display, and an MX150. i've looked up how some of my games perform on the MX150 and it seems alright enough for the job, with some minimal tweaking i could get similar performance to what i get on my desktop. i'm more leaning towards the Stealth with its 16gb RAM and 512GB SSD for not much more cost, but both look good besides that. do you guys have any recommendations? i'm open to any and all suggestions, and my budget is $1,100 maximum (new or used). How can I get my laptop to start charging properly again? Posted: 19 Aug 2019 01:57 PM PDT About a week ago my lap stopped charging properly. Now it will only charge when its in sleep mode and runs on battery when its on. I assume that must be horrible for the batery. How do I fix it? Thanks [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 Aug 2019 01:37 PM PDT The last decade or so has seen desktop PCs get a lot quieter, with all sorts of extra quiet fans, sound dampening cases, passive cooling, concern for airflow, etc. But apart from low-powered laptops that can survive on passive cooling, most laptops seem to be incredibly noisy, and reviews rarely seem to care about it. My old Macbook Pro is pretty quiet under light load, but beyond a certain threshold, it suddenly sounds like it's been taxiing on a runway and is now about to take off. One laptop I've come across that does seem to put extra effort in efficient cooling, is the Asus ROG Zephyrus, which opens up some extra space for more air when you open it, and moves the keyboard to the front edge while perforating the back half of the body, presumably for better airflow. But at the cost of having an awkward keyboard. (And still no idea how noisy or quiet it actually is.) So how do you find laptops that are fairly powerful yet more quiet than usual? Are there reviews that test this? Are there brands that put more emphasis on noise reduction? [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 Aug 2019 01:21 PM PDT I'm considering the new Alienware m17 with the specs of: • RTX 2070 8GB • 9th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-9750H • 17.3" 1920x1080 144HZ • 16 GB DDR4 2666 MHz • 512 GB SSD (2x 256GB m.2) The price is just under $2,200. Posted: 19 Aug 2019 09:23 AM PDT Is it really necessary to use a monitor when using an external GPU on a laptop. How would it be different if I just played on my laptop with the GPU? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 Aug 2019 12:56 PM PDT Wondering what kind of laptop I should get for university? Preferably something portable and with a good battery life. Would only be using it for essays and Netflix etc. Any suggestions would be appreciated [link] [comments]
Recommendations for a student laptop under $400 Posted: 19 Aug 2019 12:49 PM PDT I'd like to buy a new laptop to use for school since I'm tired of using the provided Chromebooks. I've got a good PC at home for gaming etc, so I'm not too concerned about the specs. I just need something lightweight with a decent battery that can handle a few Chrome tabs and maybe some low spec Minecraft if I'm lucky. [link] [comments]
Wondering if these upgrades make sense Posted: 19 Aug 2019 08:54 AM PDT Hey guys. I'm going back to university this September and wanted to upgrade my laptop for the next couple of years. My laptop is a Lenovo Legion Y520. It's got an i5-7300HQ with a GTX 1050 2GB. I've upgraded the RAM to 16GB, and was wondering if it was worth upgrading the HDD to a 2TB HDD for more storage and adding a 500GB NVME SSD to use as a boot drive. Right now I'm running a dual boot setup with Win10 + Manjaro each in a 250GB partition and the rest of the 1TB drive for shared storage between the two OSes. Only problem I've got with this setup is that Windows sometimes locks the shared partition which is a bit annoying but not a big deal. Total upgrade is around 150€, and I'm wondering if it'll be worth spending the extra money or if I'm gonna be fine with what I have. Usage will be school work as well as general media consumption in downloaded files on the computer. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
Microphone Generating Strange Feedback Posted: 19 Aug 2019 12:33 PM PDT I'm experiencing strange microphone feedback which has rendered my microphone intolerable to listeners. I believe the cause to be my friend spilling liquor on my desk and consequently my laptop (don't let intoxicated people near your expensive things). The sound happens through the laptops built-in microphone and also when headphones are plugged in. Thank you in advance for any consideration. Sound of feedback [link] [comments]
Is the Lenovo L340 good enough for CAD/CAM softwares? Posted: 19 Aug 2019 12:24 PM PDT I'm heading to university and I was looking for a laptop that suits the needs of an engineering student. I'm wondering if the Lenovo L340 would be a laptop that would suit any potential needs within the course. (Basically running softwares CAD/CAM primarily) [link] [comments]
Desperately need advice on laptop!! Posted: 19 Aug 2019 11:55 AM PDT So I seem to have electromagnets in my fingers where I destroy every computer I touch. I'm looking for a laptop for uni that will be durable, reliable and able to play a couple video games like league, mine craft and possibly steam games (although I here this decimates disk usage??) I really am clueless on computing but I'm going into 2nd year and can't have my laptop self-destructing again. You guys are my only hope!! [link] [comments]
How much storage should I allocate to Windows 10? Posted: 19 Aug 2019 11:53 AM PDT For class, I need to use microsoft access. However, it is not supported on the MacBook. I was wondering how much storage I need at a minimum to run Windows 10 to run microsoft access. I have a 2015 MacBook Pro 13" with 256 GB storage. This MacBook is mostly just for classes but I prioritize MacOS for the rest of the classwork. [link] [comments]
How difficult to add 2.5” drive in an Eluktronics Mech-15 G2RX Posted: 19 Aug 2019 11:47 AM PDT So I'm thinking of purchasing an Eluktronics Mech 15 G2RX, but the configuration they offered only has a 512gb nvme ssd. If I were to try to add a 1tb disc drive, how hard would it be, and would I need something like a hex screwdriver? [link] [comments]
Thoughts on the HP Envy 13t mx250 (2019)? Posted: 19 Aug 2019 11:45 AM PDT I'm on a budget and I want a thin and light that can do light gaming (Minecraft). I'm open to other computer suggestions, I like to write so a good keyboard is very important. I was very interested in thinkpads but they are super expensive for a student like me and come without graphics. I am open to AMD Vega graphics but heard they overheat and use battery life. ASUS Zenbook: Laptop will not get out of sleep mode Posted: 19 Aug 2019 11:15 AM PDT Windows: 10 Version: 1903 (for x64) Laptop: U4100UN (UX430 Series) Warranty: 2yrs Bought: January 2018 Issue since: Last Year September/October Video: https://youtu.be/Z-YnF-elU1c System Setting: https://imgur.com/a/FSnZPRj Issue: Once laptop gets into sleep mode, it will not turn on. I leave the latop idle and then it gets into sleep mode after some time or if I close the lid of laptop then it goes into sleep mode. After which no matter which key I press ( power button, windows key, ctr, mouse button, external I/O device etc.) the screen will appear black ( like when it is turn off ) and there is no Sound/Audio response. If I have external HDD connected the light in it will flicker ( indicator light in external HDD ) also the lights which are on side of laptop will too. But no matter what else you do there is no response. Although if the laptop being idle gets into sleep mode and withing few second or minute I press some key then it does get back normally and if I leave it on charging and idle then also when I get back after few hours and press key it works fine. This was the case till the most recent windows update. After this recent windows update somehow the issue is occurring even more often now. Now even if laptop is in charging and I try to get it out of sleep mode then it wont respond and remain in sleep mode. Earlier this issue was annoying but still manageable, but now it is very discomforting because if I was working on something and leave it there for sometime and get back then the only option for me is to hard press power button and re boot windows. These are some resources I found regarding the issue:
Now I bought this laptop for long term and being student don't have budget to buy laptop for at least next two years. I really like this laptop until this issue and am satisfied with rest of the laptop. But this sleep issue is really causing a lot of trouble in day to day work for me. I have tried most the common fix that are mentioned online and the only fix which has helped a bit is disabling Intel Management Engine Interface. It has helped a bit but not solved the issue entirely. I thought this was premium laptop series of theirs and is so freaking expensive too, for that price I will at-least get a reliable laptop. Such a disappointment. Even their customer and tech support does not care at all even when my device is in warranty period. Extra Similar Issues and workaround:

Posted: 19 Aug 2019 05:06 AM PDT Hi guys need help deciding which Zenbook 14 to go with. Also sorry on mobile. So both Zenbooks come with an i7-8565, 16gb ram, 512SSD, MX150. UX433FN come in royal blue, it's $200NZD higher than the UX431FN, comes with the keypad/touchpad and has a thinner bezel and is "13%" lighter than the UX431FN. So the UX431FN comes in the lighter blueish design, it's as mentioned a little bigger bezel but instead of the keypad/touchpad, has a finger print scanner. Thoughts/opinions on which I should get? IMO not a huge fan of the keypad but I could choose to never use it and I really dig the royal blue over the lighter blue, so mostly about the screen size/quality and the 13% lighter part. I guess I'm leaning towards the UX433FN but let me know your thoughts/opinions/reviews. Cheers!! Also could just buy a Helios 300 (2019) but could be slightly overkill for what I'm looking for and have a gaming desktop. [link] [comments]

Posted: 19 Aug 2019 10:31 AM PDT I'm looking for a laptop for uni that's portable and light. I'll be installing Linux on it, probably Ubuntu. I pretty much have my mind set on the IdeaPad S540, though there's the IdeaPad S340 at the exact same price point, but what looks to be a better processor. The only real difference I can see is that the S540 has a 4 cell battery, and the S340 a 3 cell battery. How much of a difference does this make? I've heard that AMD laptops have bad battery life, especially in Linux. Anyone with personal experience of these laptops? Thanks :) [link] [comments] |
