Can there be different processors with the same name?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 12:12 PM PDT

So I found this laptop for a good price, site claims that it has a AMD Ryzen 5-3550H processor with a max boost clock of 2.1GHz (actualy it's 2100 Ghz, but thats probably wrong), but if i google the processor it shows that it has a 2.1 GHz base clock and 3.7Ghz max boost clock. So what's going on?

Will my computer run these games?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 09:26 AM PDT

    Hello,

I have an Acer aspire 5 i5-8265u with 8 Gb of ram, 256ssd and Intel uhd 620 graphics.

1)I am running cities skylines on low settings and was wondering if I upgrade my ram to say 16gb (which is possible on this laptop) will it improve anything?

    2) can it run rollercoaster tycoon 2 just fine?

    3) can it run civilization 6 just fine?

    4) is it possible to upgrade the graphics card?

Laptop solely for World of Warcraft.

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 11:17 AM PDT

Hi I'm looking for suggestions on a laptop solely for world of warcraft. Budget is highly variable if its worth it but I'd be looking in the $500 range. Saving money is always good too but if its worth it I like to splurge.

I have a full desktop that I use, but I travel on the weekends. This laptop will have no other use, other than occasional web browsing, youtube, netflix, and of course WoW.

Preferred Graphics would be high @ 60fps. I know theres so many brands out there so suggestions would be fantastic.

Let me know if I need to provide any additional info.

    Thank you!

Is Norton Antivirus any Good ?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 11:09 AM PDT

Just got a new laptop with norton pre-installed, I've heard various things about it, I thought Reddit could help me out a bit. I've heard both that it's excellent with good quality and that it's terrible and let's viruses in. This is a laptop that my whole family will most likely use some I'm looking something a bit user friendly. Free would help but money is no object.

    What laptop should I get?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 09:12 AM PDT

2nd year back at school and my current laptop is currently 5 years old. I'm looking to get another that'll last me about that time and have been weighing my options. I've been looking at 2 in 1's, Microsoft surface pro. There's a bundle at Costco that includes the keyboard and stylus so I'm considering that. HP Pavilion was another, and dell XPS 13 (although a bit pricy). Any advice would be great! Budget around $1500 CDN so $1100 US

Which laptop would be more suitable?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 12:23 PM PDT

Hello everyone, this is my first post on here so apologies if I do something wrong.

My school year is about to start and I really need a laptop for my schoolwork (I'm studying to become a teacher) so I don't really need to do heavy stuff on it. But I do want to play the occasional videogame (I was thinking games such as Rome total war 2, Age of Empires and grim dawn)

I found two nice looking laptops on the internet which are the same price and are within my budget of 800 euro. But they are slightly different and I'm not really an expert in this area, I was wondering if you guys could help me out to see which laptop would be better.

    Intel hd graphics 620

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 08:29 AM PDT

Hi I am looking for a laptop that only really needs to play LoL, csgo, and starcraft 2. Would an intel HD graphics 620 be enough ? I've read 2 articles saying that it would be fine, but if heard intel graphics cards are crap. Do I need to look at better graphics cards? Would a nvidia geforce mx150 be enough?

    Gaming laptop what looks professional/normal?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 11:14 AM PDT

Thinking about replacing my aging MacBook Air. Looking for a laptop I can use for college that doesn't look like a spaceship.

    I've currently looked at: the Razer blade 15@ 1399$ (GTX 1060, i7 gen8, 256 ssd)

    The MSI P65@ 999$ refurb. 1299$ New. (GTX 1060, i7 gen 8, 512ssd)

    Racer blade 15 mercury white. 2349$ (RTX 2060, i7 gen8, 512ssd)

The white Razer blade is currently my first choice. I'm willing to pay a bit of a premium if it can look good. Any other suggestions?

    Laptop lap stands?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 11:11 AM PDT

Hey, I'm wondering if there's any laptop cooling stands that have mousepad space built in for an external mouse since I hate using a trackpad. My laptop is coming with me to uni (15.4in PCSpecialist) and I'm expecting to have it on my lap (in bed etc) which I know is abysmal for air circulation. I'd like to spend no more than £40 but obviously less is better.

    Thanks in advance! :)

Razer blade stealth 2019 4k 16GB for £1100? is this a no brainer?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 10:46 AM PDT

currently in the process of deciding what laptop to buy to replace my tower pc as i dont game on it anymore and want something more portable for uni. im currently in between a MacBook pro with 16gb ram or this razer blade stealth (max specs). the thing putting me off the razer is all the horror storys ive heard (and experienced myself with an old stealth) but has this been fixed with the latest gen as i feel like this is a deal i should be jumping at.

    Best Sub 2000 dollar laptop

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 10:06 AM PDT

Hi- I'm having lots of trouble deciding which laptop to buy. I'm interested in the slim and light category of laptops. I am not interested in macs. That leaves me with the XPS series, the Razer Blades, Gigabyte's Aero, and a few others.

I am just having such a hard time deciding what will be best. I just bought a lenovo thinkpad x1 extreme and i thought the premium i paid would be worth it but the laptop feels cheap to me and trackpad unresponsive at times. I read that the dells have thermal throttling issues, so I was going to go for the Blade but i read there is bad customer support.

I want this laptop to last at least 6 years and I'm not sure what to believe out there because everyone has complaints on every one of these brands so I'm not sure which will be more worth it. I love the feel of the Dells as well as the price for the parts, mainly the graphic card. I'm also in love with the 4k display vs the 1080p on the lenovo.

So i want to know what's most worth it for my money in terms of performance and longevity? Is razer support really as bad as i thought?

    Thanks! :)

Will a HP dock with USB C and similar wattage work with a Lenovo powered by USB C?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 10:06 AM PDT

Basically the title. I'm looking for a used USB C dock but the Lenovo docks are way too much. HP has quite a few affordable solutions like the G3 and im curious if they will work on a Lenovo using a 45w battery? From what I can tell the dock im looking at is a 65w dock.

Computer for Comp Sci in college

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 10:02 AM PDT

I'm in my senior year of high school and I'm planning on getting a laptop for college. My budget is $1000 - $1500 and I'm almost certain I need a macbook for comp sci in college as its the most user friendly for comp sci majors (as I've heard). Should I get the air or the pro?

    • Total budget and country of purchase: $1000 - $1500

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. I guess I'll take the battery life. I don't know if the programs I'll be running are too intensive

    • How important is weight and thinness to you? I would like a lighter computer but I don't really care that much

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Mac

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. -fill here, remove dashes-

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? No games

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? No

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. -fill here, remove dashes-

    2 in 1 laptops worth 200-350 dollars

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 10:02 AM PDT

I just really need a good recommendation, I am really particular about the processors tho cuz I dont want anything intel atom and i prefer i3 but intel pentium/celeron is ok as well. I also want either a 360 degree hinge or detachable. I am just a student tho and im looking for a nice touchscreen laptop kind that I could also draw on. Im also contemplating if I should just get a chromebook and install windows on it. Broke af oh and btw my family owns an acer alpha switch 12 and thats something i really like but its hella pricey for me (its a fam laptop that they dont let me bring in school and im gonna buy a personal one now) and this is the budget allocated (300)

need a laptop for university for a computer science student.

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 09:55 AM PDT

i dont think there is gonna be any intensive work other than taking notes and maybe downloading some books on it. maybe some assignments too, but i could be wrong.

price doesnt really matter but id prefer it if it were on the cheaper side (less than 1000 USD) but feel free to suggest ones that are not.

i'm looking for portabilty and battery life.

also if you know/are a computer science student i hope that you know better than me and tell me if i need more specs (rams, graphic card, etc...)

    thank you for your time.
