Posted: 19 Aug 2019 07:57 AM PDT So if I'm double clicking a folder, I guess windows is translating that action into some kind of code that makes the folder open? Is there some way to see a feed of all those commands in real time as I'm using my computer? I hope you can understand what I mean. [link] [comments]

No internet access since the most recent Windows 10 update. Classes are about to start, pls help Posted: 19 Aug 2019 04:22 PM PDT Ever since the last update, there is not even a WiFi section in the settings, and no way to see available connections. [link] [comments]
Need Tag-Based Shell Extension for Windows 7 Posted: 19 Aug 2019 05:42 PM PDT Can anyone recommend to me a shell extension that will allow me to tag my files and cross-reference them? If you've ever been to a booru site, that's what I need. I have a ton of Warhammer reference pictures on my computer, and I've got them all sorted into folders for context, but I end up with duplicates because one picture will belong in both the "skulls" folder and the "shading" folder. Being able to dump everything in one folder and pull them up through additive and subtractive tag cross-referencing would be incredible. [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 Aug 2019 12:13 PM PDT I just bought a new laptop, even though it was brand new with a clean installation, I still wanted to reset everything in it completly and set it up myself, so I went to the settings and clicked on Reset this machine, I selected so it would reset all the drives, I have 256GB SSD and a 2TB HDD, and it's been stuck at 9% for hours now. Do I just wait? Was it a mistake to try to reset an already empty disk? [link] [comments]
PC net speed gradually slowing down after Security Update KB4512508 Posted: 19 Aug 2019 04:33 PM PDT As stated in the title, my PC's internet speed has been gradually slowing down after each boot. Normally it tests at ~220-240 mbps, then within about 30 minutes of booting, it declines to 12 mbps, and it slowly goes downhill from there. The problem isn't occurring on any other devices; router reset doesn't work, it occurs on all browsers, and the troubleshooter isn't detecting issues. I have no leads for resolving this, does anyone have information on why it's happening and how it can be fixed? [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 Aug 2019 06:59 PM PDT Has anyone had any experience with this website? It seems a lot more legit than other websites that sell Windows 10 at low prices, and the service was friendly and had an answer to every question I had while trying to figure out how they got their oem keys so cheap. I know this could be a unsafe alternative to properly buying windows 10, but have any of you had any experience purchasing from this website? [link] [comments]

Is this doable? Install Win7 on 2nd partition using my desktop's recovery image Posted: 19 Aug 2019 02:36 PM PDT After shrinking my boot partition to make a second one, I copied my boot volume to it, then neither partition started up. I restored Windows 7 on my first partition w/my desktop's recovery image. Q1: Can I install Windows on the second partition using my recovery image again? Q2: Would it be easier to try copying my boot partition to the second one again since the second partition's already made? Why I want to dual-boot my HP/Compaq: my desktop's first boot drive is setup as a backup computer for work, but in the meantime I'd like to set-up the second partition as a home file and media server. I tried running the recovery option in the control panel, but it warns to backup your files so it can reinstall a fresh copy of Windows :( Thanks! :) [link] [comments]

Posted: 19 Aug 2019 05:02 AM PDT Bought a laptop secondhand with windows 10 and office 2016 installed. Disk failed, so I replaced it and reinstalled windows 10. Need to reinstall microsoft office 2016. Tried to reinstall from microsoft store, but I cannot find it to download. It seems office should be linked to my microsoft account and it doesn't apear to be. Or I should use the email address originally used to register office, but that is probably an address of the previous owner, so I don't have access to that. I'm not even sure it was a legit copy of office, since I did not install it myself. I still have access to the data on the old drive, it's just very slow. How do I reinstall office 2016? Posted: 19 Aug 2019 01:59 PM PDT Every time I boot up my laptop (a dell inspiron) and start a game I get the blue screen of death within a minute of playing. I have only two ideas of what is happening. The first is I was attempting to install mc forge and accidentally installed a virus instead. It is called chromium and the issue has only occurred after chromium appeared on my pc. The other one is a few days ago I spilled some water and it got under my computer. I wiped it up quickly but some could have gotten in and screwed with my processor. The only thing is that this happened a while ago and the problems didn't start until today. If anyone has any ideas of what is happening it would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments]

Posted: 19 Aug 2019 05:58 AM PDT Is version 1903 safe to install? I'm wary about the new update and keep seeing posts about how it's damaging PC's or just creating a bunch of trouble & don't wan't to mess up my work PC and have to re install windows or anything. My PC keeps bugging me to install it & it's now set itself to restart and do the update during "inactive hours" But seeing as I'll need to restart my PC eventually for other program updates, I don't know if I should just bite the bullet now & install it or keep delaying it. Posted: 19 Aug 2019 12:37 PM PDT Hello All, I can seem to figure this issue out. I had server 2008R2 server that contained the CA Enterprise Role and was also a Domain Controller. The end goal was to upgrade the CA server to 2016 server along with its Crypto Provider to KSP (Microsoft Stronger Provider) and the Hash algorithm to SHA256 (SHA2). I have done the CA backup/upgrade to from a 2008R2 server to 2016 including the switching the Crypto Provide to KSP to accommodate SHA2 many times but this is the first time doing it when it is also a Domain Controller. I didn't like that the CA was installed on a DC so in order to separate these roles I had to backup the CA and uninstall the CA role off the current 2008R2 server before the DC can be demoted as I needed to reuse the same host name for the new 2016 CA server. CA was uninstalled/removed and DC was demoted. A new 2016 server was brought online and I did what I normally did in the past on all the other environments which was the following: High level: 1) Restore root CA server from backup and confirm CA server is working correctly 2) Migrate Authority key from CSP (Cryptographic Service Provider) to KSP (Key Storage Provider) 3) Migrate SHA1 to SHA2 (SHA256) 4) Generate a new root certificate (5 years) to enable SHA2 Everything went well in regards to implementing a new Enterprise root certificate using SHA2 and reissued the certificate templates etc but now when I try to issue a new SSL (web server) template I get the following error "Event ID 80) "Active Directory Certificate Services could not publish a Certificate for request 89 to the following location on server (DOMAIN CONTROLLER) CN=adminusername,OU=XXX etc etc.. On the command prompt when tring to sign the csr I get the following error: Issued Could not publish Certificate. Insufficient access rights to perform the operation" I tried the following steps below to correct this issue but unfortunately no success: o Ensure the cert I am using is set to published to Active Directory o Ensure the CA server is a member of the Cert Publishers Group · Manually re-published new CRTL with index 1 --> example certutil –dspublish –f <PathToCRL(1).crl> CA-SERVERNAME · Execute the following command on the CA server --> certutil –setreg SetupStatus –SETUP_DCOM_SECURITY_UPDATED_FLAG o Note Certsvc was stopped and started I read something about confirming the CA has necessary permissions on the Domain Controller and domain Users containers: · Active Directory Sites and Servers o View -->Show Services Node · Services --> Public Key Services --> Right click Domain Computers and click Properties and do the same with Domain Users and ensyre the Cert Publishers group has "Read" and "Write" permissions under the security tab. However the kicker is those containers don't exist under the Public Key Services. Mind you they don't exist on my other environment where I was able to upgrade the CA without any issues. One interesting thing I did noticed on my other environments where I upgrade the CA server without any issues is when I navigated to Active Directory Sites and Servers --> Services --> Public Key Services -->Certification Authorities--> The CA server that is listed I can right click and select Properties and click on the security tab and confirm the permission being assigned one of them being the "Cert Publishers" group. However doing this on the network that I am having this CA issue with I only see the "General" tab I do not see "Object, Security and "Attribute Editor" Again, I have done the migration and upgrade of the CA server from 2008R2 to 2016 many times in different environments but this is the first time the CA server was on Domain controller. I am wondering if something was missed during the demotion of the DC? Thank you kindly for reading. [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 Aug 2019 12:04 PM PDT Hi. I'm trying to upgrade a fresh Windows 8.1 install to Windows 10. Everything is fine until it reaches "Checking for updates". It gets stuck every time at 46%. I've searched google and found others with similar problems. I've tried most of their solutions, but still the same. Before you ask, yes I've made sure that nothing is block in the firewall. I've had network monitor running next to the install Windows and sure enough, at 46% all network traffic stops... any suggestions?? [link] [comments]
Windows 10 won't install when I restart, and can't check for updates in the meantime Posted: 19 Aug 2019 11:46 AM PDT When Windows 10 was offered for free I downloaded and installed it. But I didn't like how it looked so I went back to Windows 7 somehow, I've forgotten how. Now I can't search for updates because the computer is ready with the file and wanting to update to Windows 10. When I open Windows update it only says "Your upgrade to Windows 10 is ready" and asks me to restart for it to install. But when I restart the computer it boots up Windows 7 like normal. When I try to check for updates it says that it can't check for updates until "the previous installation can be completed". What to do? Ideally I'd like the Windows 10 upgrade to work, but either way it's probably good to have updates for Windows 7. [link] [comments]
Custom .ico for Start Menu and Task Bar Posted: 19 Aug 2019 09:47 AM PDT So I'm making white .ico's for all of my most used apps, just to add a bit of uniformity to my desktop, start menu and task bar. I've noticed a few things that I can't figure out how to fix - 1: As seen in this screenshot, some of my apps like TS3 have full icons that take up the whole box - while others have the little icon with the app name below it. The app name being at the bottom of the tile makes it so the .ico file appears smaller than intended. How do I get rid of the app names on the tiles? 2: As seen in this screenshot, I have some files that change on the task bar but not in the start menu, and vice versa. I appreciate all your help in advance. Thanks, guys. [link] [comments]
My PC BSOD’ed with SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION Posted: 18 Aug 2019 11:39 PM PDT I was just working on my PC rendering a video. Video renders after a few hours. I come back, open the video. All is good, and a minute later I hit the BSOD screen.... my PC didn't auto restart after a while, so I did a manual restart and now I am getting an error that I don't have an operating system... what's going on? I Need Advice For Using Keyboards of Different Alphabets Posted: 19 Aug 2019 07:36 AM PDT So I've got two keyboards: my main one, which uses the Latin Alphabet, and the second one, which is in Cyrillic. I know I can set up my computer such that I can switch the language on BOTH keyboards, so that both will type Cyrillic (I just won't know the keys on the Latin one), but I want to be able to do it so I can type on the Cyrillic keyboard, and produce cyrillic letters, and without having to do any switching around, I'll be able to go to my Latin keyboard and type some English.
