1903 (?) update disabled USB C port functionality

    Posted: 18 Aug 2019 12:53 PM PDT

I have an HP envy x360 that was running pre-1903 (I assume) until recently. I have it connected to two monitors, one directly via HDMI and the other via a USB C hub. The hub also has an ethernet cable and mouse attached.

Before the update, all three worked fine; I got a 1080p signal to my monitor and ethernet network connectivity. Then the update comes along today (18/8) and only the USB mouse works. I can't get the USB C port to display anything (even using a previously functional single function USB C to HDMI adaptor), nor recognise the ethernet connection.

I've tried rolling back to a previous version, which didn't seem to do anything, and every time I reconnect the hub I get a "USB device functionality might be limited" message.

Additionally, and I'm not sure if this is related, but the "Restart and update to stay in support" message from the notification center won't go away.

Can anyone offer any help as to what might be the cause/solution?

[Win10] Just installed the new features update and experiencing many issues

    Posted: 18 Aug 2019 04:54 PM PDT

Hey all, I installed the feature update last week before heading out for a trip and returned today to find my computer is struggling after installing the update. My computer crashed 2 times claiming memory issues, and following that my computer has begun to behave erratically, with programs freezing and stuttering regularly. Also, some programs are claiming I don't have enough free disk space to run or install. My computer is pretty beefy if just a bit aged.

It's running an i7-3770k on an ASROCK z77 extreme4, with 16gb of corsair vengeance RAM, and a gigabyte GTX980.

Edit: computer just BSOD'd twice again, stop code is memory management.

The update seems to have affected my restore points and I don't have access to them, and I can't see a way to rollback the update. Any idea what I should do?

Currently i've ran ChkDsk /f with no errors and the windows memory diagnostic also came with no errors.

    thanks in advance :)

Can't install Windows 10 from USB because "there are no drivers"

    Posted: 18 Aug 2019 09:49 AM PDT

I'm trying to dual boot Windows 10 with Ubuntu but I'm having problems. I'm on Ubuntu so I used MultiSystem to make a bootable USB drive with the Windows 10 ISO I downloaded from Microsoft, however when installing it says there are no drivers available, how do I fix this?

windows update left the sound echoey

    Posted: 18 Aug 2019 02:30 PM PDT

so i downloaded the windows update and then left the house all day. when i came home, everything seemed normal, I was at the desktop, no issues. but when i try to play a youtube video, the audio is all fine and understandable but theres a slight echo that makes it annoying. in the system tray, I see this new dell audio manager and I...don't know what to do with it. I've also heard that this new august update can result in the computer rebooting itself automatically and randomly and I worry that might happen.

    Skype Muting All Other Audio

    Posted: 18 Aug 2019 07:51 PM PDT

I've tried changing the Sound option from 80% Volume to "Do Nothing." I restarted my computer. I tried using the Volume Mixer to turn Skype all the way down and Netflix all the way up. I see the audio levels going up and down in the Mixer. I still hear nothing. I have Windows 10. I've read its Windows 10 doing it and not Skype, so I posted it here. What's going on?

Mic on headset suddently stopped working.

    Posted: 18 Aug 2019 01:02 PM PDT

So, i got a headset a long time ago, and the mic worked just fine. But for some reason the mic just stopped, not the actual headphones, though. I tried to use the same headphones on my tablet and xbox, and they worked just fine. I also tried different headphones. Those didn't work either. I'v tried messing with the sound settings for hours and nothing is working, even tutorials aren't working. I'm assuming its something with my computer maybe? Please help

    Locking a shortcut in desktop?

    Posted: 18 Aug 2019 02:35 PM PDT

    Hey!

Is there any way that you can lock a shortcut in your desktop?

For example, there's a file that I want to lock, I mean that you can open with a password or maybe not having the ability to move\change the file.

Is there any feature like this in Windows 10?

    Thanks.

New windows slightly shorter and positioned slightly lower than existing window (Windows 10)

    Posted: 18 Aug 2019 02:01 PM PDT

I'm running Windows 10 64-bit. There are many programs (the Vivaldi web browser is one example) where when I create a new window (with Ctrl-N), the window size is slightly shorter and positioned slightly below the top of the existing window. I find that a little bothersome, since for web browsers, I like to have them placed at the top of my screen, and I like to have new windows at least as tall as the existing window I had open. Does Windows 10 have some general settings for the window sizing & positioning behavior when I have an application create a new window?

Blue screen 3 times. PC stops at black screen w/ cursor after attempting Safe Mode

    Posted: 18 Aug 2019 09:01 AM PDT

    Windows 7

I was playing Starcraft when I got a pop up regarded corrupted file within the game. I wasn't sure what it was and soon after the game crashed with blue screen. After restarting, I was going to uninstall and reinstall but PC blue screen crashed few seconds after logging in. After this, any attempt after the black screen w/ options (Safe Mode, Normal Start etc) stops at a black screen with movable cursor.

Blue screen was something about NTSF i believe and the corrupted file prompt said something anout use chkdsk

I've tried every Safemode, and went to F8 Menu and tried the following:

Start Up Repair: No problems found. System Restore: No restore point. Windows Memory Diagnostic: No Problems.

Command Prompt: sfc/ scannow: "there is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. I restarted pc but this message hasn't changed. Command Prompt: sfc/ scannow /offbootdir=d:\ /offwindir=d:\windows: "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs" etc

Help - Resolution Issues with Game on Second Display

    Posted: 18 Aug 2019 12:45 PM PDT

I have a 4K monitor as my primary monitor, and a 4K TV as my secondary display.

With my primary monitor set to its native resolution, I can play games just fine at non-native resolutions. For example, the Witcher 3 will play in full screen at 1440p with no issues.

On my TV, the secondary display, the game will either launch in borderless window mode, not filling the screen, or the TV will lose signal.

There is a way around this - if I set the resolution of the TV in Windows display settings to match the resolution of the game, I can play without issue. This is inconvenient however, as I have to change the display settings every time I want to use the TV to play a game rather than other PC tasks.

GFX card is an RTX 2080 and I tried with both the latest and some slightly older drivers.

I have the issue when I am only using the TV as a display - ie Windows is set to use second screen only.

Looking For A Way To Remote Access Images From PC On Android

    Posted: 18 Aug 2019 03:42 AM PDT

I have about 120gb of Screenshots, Artwork, and source images on my PC I'd love to be able to access remotely on my Android so I could work on concepting and design while I have downtime at work (I don't waste time, don't worry. My job is basically press a few buttons then watch a test run for 2 hours and make sure no alarms go off) how can I do this?

One Drive/Google Drive/Drop Box isn't really an option for a couple of reasons, the upload size, the size of the individual files, and the quality loss (I've found One Drive automatically compresses things for some reason) but also the apps are all a pain to navigate/organize and don't generally show thumbnail previews in a convenient way.

Oh I might add the content of these folders changes pretty frequently so "syncing" wouldn't really help. I'd have to sync the folders almost every day.

I do need to be able to see preview thumbnails (and it would be super helpful if gif thumbnails would animate? I don't know how realistic that is. I don't have too many so I guess it's not massively important)

The ability to download the files remotely is a necessity though. I need to be able to open them in various other applications.

I'd really appreciate any help anyone can offer!

How to fix icons, images and apps not displaying in windows?

    Posted: 18 Aug 2019 01:06 AM PDT

I already tried rebuilding icon and thumbnail cache. I'm attaching screenshots to show exactly what's going on. Note: Making a new account does not fix this. I also tried system restore and while it did fix it for a while, it happened again (after maybe updates?)

Windows Calender synced to iCloud's calendar, but isn't showing any events

    Posted: 17 Aug 2019 09:00 PM PDT

Hi all, I have a Dell XPS13 9360 running Windows 10 (updated). I have my calendar synced to my iCloud calendar but recently (after some windows update), my calendar stopped showing the events from my iCloud calendar. The calendar IS synced to my iCloud because I can create events from the calendar that does update and show up on iCloud, but it's just that the events are not coming up on the windows calendar.

I've contacted Dell support, but their solution was to use Outlook, which I'm not really keen on doing. Can someone who may have experienced something similar shed some light on this?

    Thanks! :)
