Sunday Rant/Rage (Aug 25 2019) - Your weekly complaint thread!

    Posted: 25 Aug 2019 04:16 AM PDT

Note 1. Join our Discord, IRC, and Telegram chat-rooms! Please see our wiki for instructions.

This weekly Sunday thread is for you to let off some steam and speak out about whatever complaint you might have about:

    • Your device.

    • Your carrier.

    • Your device's manufacturer.

    • An app

    • Any other company

    Rules

    1) Please do not target any individuals or try to name/shame any individual. If you hate Google/Samsung/HTC etc. for one thing that is fine, but do not be rude to an individual app developer.

    2) If you have a suggestion to solve another user's issue, please leave a comment but be sure it's constructive! We do not want any flame-wars.

    3) Be respectful of other's opinions. Even if you feel that somebody is "wrong" you don't have to go out of your way to prove them wrong. Disagree politely, and move on.

What do you think about the poor optimization of popular apps on Android as compared to their IOS counterparts?

    Posted: 24 Aug 2019 11:30 PM PDT

I'm asking this question because personally for me I find it rather annoying to not have popular apps for example Instagram not fully optimized even with my new Pixel 3a XL.

For example, when I view vertical IGTV videos, the videos zoom to fit to my display instead of on IOS where they letterbox it or fit the video within the screen. Does anyone else have this issue as well?

Personally I think it's sad that a lot of companies disregard their app optimization on Android and focus a lot on making sure their apps work for IOS. So my qn is whether there other apps that you feel are poorly optimized or lacks features for Android as compared to their IOS counterparts and what do you believe can be done to fix these issues moving forward and how you personally deal with it?

Unpopularopinion: Curved screens are perfect for edge gesture navigation and you guys are missing out on things because of the hivemind.

    Posted: 24 Aug 2019 11:47 PM PDT

Listen, I'm all for options and feel like this sub has become a huge circlejerking echo chamber and the gatekeeper of variety.

Take the curved edges for example and how they are collectively hated in this sub without taking into consideration the amazing positives it can unleash, if only you though outside of the box for once and was not held back by the herd mentality.

I feel like many of you have not even tried disabling the bottom navigation altogether and using edge gestures alone for navigation. You buy expensive devices with curved screens and cover them in plastic when a large part of the price is the design and the amazing features it enables. Features that are hindered with razor sharp edges and plastic extra bezels.

I feel like so many of you form diehard opinions without ever even trying or experimenting with things and then come here to downvote everything against your ignorant beliefs.
