    Any games like Kingturn RPG?

    Posted: 20 Aug 2019 11:09 AM PDT

I've played every game that Mangobile has created, and I just can't find anything to scratch the itch. I need M O R E

I've played Final Fantasy Tactics, FFTA, FFTA2, Fire Emblem, Advance Wars, AW2, Ogre Battle, Disgaea, etc. Tactics Maiden was a masterpiece, as well as Kingturn RPG and it's expansions.

I have the same issues finding mobile games that it sounds like a lot of people have. My love for turn based strategy hasn't panned out, because it seems like the trash gachi p2w grindfest shit won the market.

Any game devs out there keeping this genre alive? I feel like they're out there but I just don't know where to look.

    Casual City Building Game

    Posted: 20 Aug 2019 12:43 PM PDT

I'm looking for something for my wife. She really liked My Singing Monsters, but hit a wall after a long time playing. I can't seem to find anything like it to suggest to her. We also liked playing Tiny Tower Vegas, but after a year, we got bored.

Really, any casual game recommendations will be great. Any help you can provide would be appreciated!

What's the best way currently to play Jazz Jackrabbit 2?

    Posted: 20 Aug 2019 10:56 AM PDT

I really want the game to detect joysticks (I have a controller for my phone), so ideally, it could be something that passed that though, although I have a USB mouse and keyboard as well

Games that run well within DosBox

    Posted: 20 Aug 2019 03:24 AM PDT

A while ago I found my backup of my old DOS PC and tried to play some of my older games on the phone. I used DosBox Turbo for it, which is free. So if you have old copies of those games lying around you might try these out.

All you need is a copy of the game on your device and some basic DOS commands (entering directories, running programs). But as you are required to own those games I expect you oldtimers to be able to tackle that.

So here are some games that I tried (Samsung S8+):

    Might & Magic 4 & 5 (World of Xeen)

The game features on screen controls for movement and combat and is turn based which makes it a great candidate. The sound didn't work that well and every time I had some voice (mostly in stores) it froze so I had to disable them before entering those.

Besides that everything worked like a charm. Some menus are a bit small so depending on your screen size you might need a pen or some patience.

A bit annoying are the parts where you have to enter some text (mostly code words for teleportation etc.) and therefore also needs some note keeping which might require switching between apps (or haven pen & paper at hand).

Overall a fantastic game that is still very playable and offers tons of fun for hours.

    Dungeon Master

It also features on screen controls for movement but as it is in real time fast and precise input (especially the spells) is a bit difficult at times and might require a more careful approach to combat. Besides that it plays perfectly well as it doesn't require a right click or other keyboard input than what the screen has to offer.

The game is simpler than the above Might & Magic and might be the better dungeon crawler for beginners.

    Eye of the Beholder (1-3)

Those games are quite similar to Dungeon Master as they feature real time combat with on screen controls. Otherwise they ages and play quite well. Can't recall any problem with those.

    Master of Orion 2

The game worked quite well, some animations were a bit clunky (but that might have been the case back then too). What is a bit strange is that when selecting the tech upgrade then there is no info what those upgrades are. Perhaps that was a mouse over effect or visible via right click. I can't remember. So it might be the better option for veterans than new players (or you find out what I missed). Besides that still the best 3X game imho.

    Master of Magic

This fantasy version of Civ 1 (think Age of Wonders) still plays great. Every button is big enough to be easily touchable. So far I haven't found anything that requires other input than normal clicks so it can be perfectly played. Even though I get my ass handed every time. Perhaps it was easier back then... Also a real jewels.

    Dune 2

The first real RTS and it runs quite well on my phone. The touch input is great even though a bit complicated by today's standard. You have to click on the unit, click on "Attack" and then click on the target. But the game is not as fast as those RTS today so an APM of 10 should be enough.

The game seems a bit slow though but perhaps it was always that way? Playing with the DosBox settings might help to speed it up a bit. I only played the first Harkonnen mission so far and it went without problems. Sound is fine.

    Micro Machines 2: Turbo Tournament

Remember playing this back then all the time with some half-broken joystick... It runs fine on DosBox but the controls are a bit strange. The menu has to be controlled via the arrow keys which aren't easy to simulate (worked using on-screen buttons) and using the on-screen virtual joystick for control in-game. It isn't fun with a virtual joystick though so I stopped playing. Using a physical joystick might yield better results.

    Other games

I haven't tried any other games yet as most of those that I had back then were fast paced action games and therefore not really good for touch input. I will expand this list once I try more.

Those which didn't work so far

Die Fugger 2 (requires a keyboard and both mouse buttons), Wing Commander (2) (input was difficult of course and the game was way too fast)

[REQUEST] Game that I can play similar to blade crafter

    Posted: 20 Aug 2019 08:16 AM PDT

So I've been playing blade crafter on and off for a while now. I'm in the end game grind, but blade crafter 2 just came out and it's basically tap titans with some small part of blade crafter added to it. It doesn't seem worth my time to finish grinding out end game to a game that likely won't see any more updates.
That being said I really enjoy that I can let it kind of auto battle on lower levels for extended periods of time while I'm at work to grind for upgrades/currency, but also allows me to play actively to push my progression. Thank you for your suggestions.

I know jump from sa to IV was a big one and will be the same for mobile (if/when it happens) but I don't know much about processors and gpu powers of mobiles. So can anyone here shed light on powers of current processors and future?

What you would change in a single greedy F2P game?

    Posted: 20 Aug 2019 04:47 AM PDT

So, let's dream a bit. What you would change in a single greedy F2P game that you actually like to make it more appealing but without killing it in the process.

Something to start the discussion. I would like to see a Game of War style game that works on a P2P or a subscription model. The concept can be interesting to play when there are no P2W involved in this genre. And what's more interesting, it should attract some different people.

Chasing the name of a game

    Posted: 20 Aug 2019 03:56 AM PDT

I've previously played a puzzle game but I've forgotten the name of it. It involved using various sensors of the phone in order to pass the level, eg set your brightness to max then put it on minimum, or take a screenshot to pass the level. Another one I remember was you had to put your phone into airplane mode. Can anyone help me out with the name of the app? Edit: Iirc it had a black logo with a turquoise outline of a triangle or something similar

Update!! Managed to find it, it was called Orbita AI but it looks like it's been deleted from the Google Play Store, though there's some APK files floating around, so I might need to try that

    Help please - RPG Game

    Posted: 20 Aug 2019 06:18 AM PDT

Hi guys, I am looking to find some good and solid RPG for Android. Something to play in my breaks or in bed. I used to play a lot of Hero's Charge and Fantasy War Tactics a lot. So I am looking for something similar. Not one of the shitty money-grabbing games that are filling the store.
I played Summoner Wars, the Star Wars related game and a bunch of others. Really looking to suggestion.
