4 Quick Tl;Dr Android Game Reviews / Recommendations (Episode 117) Posted: 30 Aug 2019 10:30 AM PDT Welcome back, my fellow mobile gamers. Excited to bring you 4 neat games this week in my weekly mobile game recommendation roundup. Enjoy :) This week, I cover a solitaire-like RPG game with roguelike gameplay elements, a fun strategy RPG with no auto-combat, energy systems or the like, a high-quality 2D platform shooter that reminded me of Lost Socks: Naughty Brothers, and a turn-based gacha RPG with a huge community of loyal fans. Disagree with my opinion? Let's have a friendly discussion below. New to these posts? Check out the first one from 117 weeks ago here. The games are "ranked" somewhat subjectively from best to worst, so take the ranking for what it is. Let's get to this week's 4 games:Solitairica [Game Size: 259 MB] (free)Genre: Solitaire-like / Casual / RPG / Roguelike - Offline Playable Orientation: Portrait Required Attention: Little tl;dr review: Solitairica is a solitaire-like RPG card game with roguelike elements where we clear piles of face-up cards to defeat enemies and use spell cards to protect ourselves and strategize our next move. As we attempt to get through the game's many rounds of enemies without dying, we earn gold, which can be spent on buying items and spells that last until next time we die, and diamonds, which can be used to permanently upgrade our deck or buy new decks when we die. The game's casual and fun, yet hardcore and challenging, and the roguelike progression, procedurally generated enemies, and many spells and items cards that can be combined in various ways, keeps the game fresh. The game's free to try, with a $4 iAP unlocking the full game (more cards and decks). Google Play: Here YouTube First Impressions / Review: Here First Summoner [Game Size: 1.03 GB] (free)Genre: RPG / Strategy / Action - Offline Playable Orientation: Portrait Required Attention: Full tl;dr review: First Summoner is a strategy RPG that plays a bit like a PvE-focused fantasy Clash Royale game where we control a main hero and deploy units as we run through level after level. Oh, and there's no auto-play, no energy system, and no "wait for lootboxes to unlock"-mechanic either. I enjoy the gameplay's focus on tactic rather than action and speed, which has us gather a perfect team of units with an appropriate average mana cost, and equip the proper items on our main hero before heading into PvE levels and PvP matches. The game looks great, the controls work well, and because of its focus on PvE, the in-app purchases that provide paying users to get a pay-to-progress-faster advantage don't impact the rest of us too much, as we're not forced to engage with other players. Google Play: Here YouTube First Impressions / Review: Here Bombastic Brothers [Total Game Size: 304 MB] (free)Genre: Action / Platformer / Shooter / 2D - Requires Online Access Orientation: Landscape Required Attention: Full tl;dr review: Bombastic Brothers is an awesome high-quality hero-based 2D platform shooter (Lost Socks: Naughty Brothers, anyone?) with no energy system (yay!). The core gameplay has us jump and shoot our way through a bunch of story campaign levels and daily missions to unlock new heroes and gear (and boring bot-controlled PvP matches), while upgrading our spaceship-base in-between levels to unlock new gameplay features and increase our max. hero level. As for monetization, we have to wait for our home base to upgrade, and being developed by My.com, there are of course a few pay/grind-walls throughout the game too. Despite this less-than-ideal monetization, I'm confident many will still enjoy the game for its fantastic run'n'gun gameplay. Google Play: Here YouTube First Impressions / Review: Here Epic Seven [Total Game Size: 2.04 GB] (free)Genre: RPG / Turn-based / Strategy / Gacha - Requires Online Access Orientation: Landscape Required Attention: Little tl;dr review: Epic Seven is a Korean team-based (gacha) RPG with a huge Reddit community of loyal fans, over-the-top skill animations, and English-voiced cut-scenes that tell a decently interesting story. As with any gacha RPG, we setup a team of heroes and head into the game's many turn-based levels, where each hero has 3 different abilities they can use - or you can use the auto system and just let the game play itself... The game is of high quality and has interesting heroes, but there's a ton of in-app purchases going up to $100, which gives paying users a huge pay-to-progress-faster advantage, and since we're not told how much damage each of our heroes' skills deal, the combat feels more random than tactical. Any other bilinguals noticed a sharp increase of bad and unavoidable app translations as of late? Posted: 30 Aug 2019 05:07 PM PDT For a bit of context: I'm a native Spanish speaker and a fluent English speaker (currently working as an English teacher half-time). Since my grand-aunt lives alone I've been buying her the same phone as mine every time I've upgraded for the last decade or so, and keep it set to Spanish so I can have an easier time giving her tech support (it's often enough that I'd rather not change the language every time). By this point in my life I'm used to horrible translations. But way back when most apps were only available on English this wasn't even a problem. Then, at some point most apps started getting translated but would generally default to English and/or let you pick a language when first opening them. Now however, half of the time I'm either met with an unskippable tutorial I have to go through before being finally allowed to access the settings menu and be able to change away from the horrible translation, or a worse-than-Google-translated app that has no "change language" option whatsoever. At first I thought I could be smart and change my phone's language to English, uninstall all Google Play Store updates, re-update and then change back to Spanish. Unfortunately this only lasts until an automatic Play Store update brings me back to Spanish (instead of, y'know...Atleast asking). I'm starting to wonder if the quality of the average Play Store app has really dropped this much or I'm just picking really shitty apps. Anyone else been noticing this trend? It's so bloody annoying (and honestly, also insulting to a certain degree, you really can't find someone who will do a decent translation of your app to the 3rd/4th most spoken language in the world?) I've started giving bad reviews to all apps with shitty translations at this point, regardless of change language option and how good are the other features of the app. [link] [comments]
Looking for a game like Hyper Heros Posted: 30 Aug 2019 07:03 PM PDT I played a game a year or so ago that was a lot like hyper heroes but instead of full body models it had tokens that you launched around the arena representing your characters/party. Basically it was just their head and hands. Really want to give the game another try but I don't remember the name and my googlefu isnweak today. [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 Aug 2019 06:06 PM PDT Family got me a Samsung galaxy A20 as a surprise gift two weeks ago and after having it sit on my table since then cause I've had no idea what to do with it( my only cellphone before this one was a little flip phone for emergency calls) I decided to come here and ask if anyone with knowledge could tell me if it can play games like ES blades, Neverwinter nights EE or the upcoming black desert mobile? If it can't it's just going to be a glorified paper weight that can browse the internet when I'm at work or on long road trips. Thank you for your time. [link] [comments]
[REQUEST] Games like Wilmot's Warehouse for Android. Posted: 30 Aug 2019 09:16 PM PDT I'm looking for games where you sort things. I just discovered Wilmot's Warehouse on switch and was disappointed it wasn't available on Android. It seems like the sort of concept that would work well on a phone. Happy to pay for the game. (In fact, paid games are preferred since they're more likely to be good.) [link] [comments]
Curious question about Android gamers and Switch players Posted: 30 Aug 2019 06:34 AM PDT I've been subbed here for awhile and am pretty used to the cynicism about the state of mobile games around this sub - I feel it too. It's hard for me to consistently find mobile games I not only enjoy, but come back to regularly. I got a Nintendo Switch several weeks ago and am wondering how people in this sub feel they compare, or if they've checked them out at all? I ask this because I feel like so many of the requests I see in this sub ('What's a good game like this? Best games that aren't pay to win? Etc etc") that I'm coming to find can be answered with a Switch alternative. To me, the Switch is an incredible mobile gaming alternative, largely because it has this "Sleep Mode" where I can suspend the game in its current state and come back to it later. It's also a really helpful feature for me, as a busy guy and parent. I'll actually grab it on my way to the toilet sometimes and bust out a little 5 minutes of something. So my question, in short, is how do you feel the Switch matches your gaming needs and preferences, compared to mobile games? [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 Aug 2019 06:58 AM PDT So back in the days I used to play a game with a bird and green pipes, and you needed to tap on the screen to make the bird fly. Anyone knows the name? [link] [comments]
(Request) Games that don't make you feel lonely. Posted: 30 Aug 2019 04:09 AM PDT I'm looking for games like that. By not feeling lonely I mean having AI Buddies or at least some form of ally that helps in anyway. I hate feeling alone in games, it just ruins it most of the times. An example of what I mean is the mercenary system or the way you can recruit someone in exiled kingdoms, or the way you can band a party or team in mystery of fortune. Of course I'm mainly looking for action games, but other genres can be fine. The games I'm REALLY looking for with the 'not lonely' type are horde shooters and or looter shooters. I absolutely go fucking nuts when I find a game like this, example of which is a non mobile game called Warframe (you can have a companion and summon specters, which is basically another companion) I prefer a free game, but if its paid as long as it's good I'll gladly pay for it. That's pretty much it. Anything will do, thanks! [link] [comments]
