Lost phone with different home location and syncing

    Posted: 02 Jun 2019 09:05 PM PDT

Hii My phone was stolen yesterday (Lenovo k8 note). I checked my google dashboard for location timeline, there was nothing in that but in the Google maps my Home was set to a place I had never been to, or even heard about, i don't remember doing that, can anyone tell me what does that mean. And the next thing that I don't understand is when I check my device on google find my device it shows last synced yesterday 5pm at that time my phone was already stolen does that mean the robber is using my phone? I tried calling my phone it comes switched off.

Access Point Name settings are not available for this user - ZTE Max on Mint Mobile

    Posted: 02 Jun 2019 09:35 PM PDT

Switched network providers from Virgin Mobile (Sprint) to Mint Mobile (t-mobile)

    Phone = ZTE Max

    Had Virgin unlock the phone

After setting up Mint Mobile was unable to send text photos or access internet over wireless.

MMS APN settings are not received via text as Mint Mobile says will happen after you have just setup your new phone. You now have to try to set it up manually.

The instructions at Mint Mobile seem simple enough https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/120707/how-to-solve-the-apn-settings-are-not-available-for-this-user-issue Mint Mobiles own instructions are for an APN for

    Name – UltraAPN – Wholesale

Going to APN Settings all you see is a message "Access Point Name settings are not available for this user"

Internet connection is working (many other solutions assume your issue is because your internet is not connecting and recommend you to reboot a few times which wont help you https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/120707/how-to-solve-the-apn-settings-are-not-available-for-this-user-issue )

You can see the + button to add a new APN but when you add the details that Mint Mobile shows for Name – UltraAPN – Wholesale you cant get the settings to save & stick. One solution out there even suggested just using back button (instead of clicking save button) and it seemed to solve the issue.. but not for me.

Tried many solutions from google search but none worked.

    https://www.unlockboot.com/apn-settings-not-available-current-user-profile/

    https://apn-settings.com/apn-troubleshooting/

Some solutions even provide instructions on going into developer mode and rooting your phone. Editing systems files etc. Probably you dont want to do that.

So what worked for me in the end? Eventually I came across an article at t-mobile that provided a different set of MMS settings than what Mint Mobile themselves tell you to enter. It was after entering these settings that saving finally worked, and everything was solved!! https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-27511 I just wish I had found this article sooner in my searching.

Need help with bringing phone back to stock

    Posted: 02 Jun 2019 06:52 PM PDT

I decided to try to flash a new rom on my old HTC One m7 (m7_ul?). I did this before many years ago on another device so I figured it might not be so hard. However something went terribly wrong...
I first unlocked my bootloader, then I attempted to install Magisk with TWRP, albeit an extremely old version, however I cant seem to get any newer versions to work. I had system and data mounting issues, but an online guide showed a quick fix with wiping these in TWRP. When I tried to install my rom (a HTC one m7 Version of AICP) I ran into similar issues with mounting and can no longer boot into an OS.

As of now I have my bootloader unlocked, with access to an outdated TWRP, and no access to an OS. I cannot flash anything as I have consistent system mounting errors. I've tried many things all of which have not worked. I don't know what to do now, or if I can even get out of this scenario, help would be appreciated.

Edit: Was able to find an updated version of TWRP, however my issue still remains.

I am trying to start my phone in fastboot mode and whether I do it using "adb reboot bootloader" or by selecting fastboot from the menu displayed when powering on while holding volume up, the phone just powers off. Is there any way to get the phone to switch state from "Off" to "Fastboot"

(Solved) Broken media files that couldn't be copied/moved/uploaded

    Posted: 02 Jun 2019 07:51 PM PDT

tl;dr: If you have issues with corrupted media files that you can't copy/move/upload, try 'trimming' them using the default editing software, but saving the whole file. It won't repair the damage, but you'll have a working file, which for memories can be invaluable.

I've been having corruption problems on my Galaxy S7 for a while now. I can't actually remember when they started, so it may be since I got the thing.

The problem is specifically with media files - photos, videos, and music - that I've been saving to my microSD card (I haven't tried saving to the internal storage because the corruption is random (only a fraction of the files are affected) and the internal storage is pitiful). They'll seem to save fine, but then when browsing them later or trying to back them up I find that they're corrupted. Playback is affected, and I can't copy, move, or upload the files, whether on the phone or with the card inserted in my desktop.

I've tried MP4Fix, Unstoppable Copy, and others, but nothing was working.

Long story short, what ended up doing the trick is using the default Android video editing software.

    1. Select that you want to trim the video, but leave the selection bars covering the whole thing.
    2. Save it, and voila! The new video can be copied/moved/uploaded.

In my experience, the corrupted playback is saved as part of the video (if that makes sense); it plays without issue, but the recording includes any stutters, choppiness, or stuck frames from the initial corrupted video. Still, it's better than nothing.

If people have other solutions, feel free to leave them below, but I hope this helps someone down the line :)

could I expect the pixel 3a to perform as choppy as my zenpad, especially in the long term?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2019 10:21 PM PDT

i know the 3a has better specs. it has 1 extra gig of ram, and the zenpad is only running the sd 650. the zenpad works mostly well but I've run into a couple of issues that I suspect have to do with the midrange specs of the device or the devices age, probably both.

the zenpad doesn't play videos in browsers. only videos in chrome works. I've tested brave, via, and kiwi. videos just buffer forever. also, I've noticed mega downloads dont work unless I use the mega app. I just get the prompt saying something like "do you give permission to store data on this device" and it freezes and I cant select yes or no. lastly, apps crash somewhat often, but its happened most frequently with desmume. it often crashes as soon as I open it, and i need to open it a handful of times before it will stay open.

I'm not asking for a fix for these issues, but you're welcome to provide fixes if you have them, but rather I just wanna know if the tech in the pixel 3a can be expected to not suffer from these issues because I'm thinking of buying it soon and they dont seem that much more powerful. the zenpad is the only android device I've owned so sorry if I sound ignorant here.

Roughly 8 years ago, I had a phone who was able to take photos with the front and back camera simultaneously and combine them, creating a photo with a 'selfie stamp'. Any ideas what phone that was and if there's an app allowing phones nowadays to do the same?

USB OTG Prolems on Note 8

    Posted: 02 Jun 2019 03:12 PM PDT

I have my Note 8 connected to a USB hub to use as a midi controller. However, when I connect an otg adapter and plug into the USB hub the option to have "USB controlled by" switch from "connected device" to "this phone" I keep getting an error that says "couldn't switch." I have tried two different OTG connectors. When I have only the OTG connector connected I get the same error. Is this a common issue with a simple fix? I've tried googling for an hour and haven't found anything that's helped. Thank you :)

Is there an iTunes equivalent for android? (Sync specific genres, etc)

    Posted: 02 Jun 2019 04:47 PM PDT

I'm a new android user (Pixel 3a) coming from an iPhone. I'm a bit stumped on music transferring.

With iTunes I liked the ability to sync specific genres, playlists and artists to my phone without having to sync everything. I've got about 200k songs on my PC (DRM free) and I'm looking for something similar to the iTunes' specific sync function.

I'm aware you can just drag and drop, but that'll be difficult as my music folders are organized by artist and not genre. Additionally, it makes taking songs in and out more difficult. I've looked into Google Play Music as well but I couldn't log on from my desktop for some reason and I believe it's limited to 50,000 songs which is 1/4th of my library.

I'm basically looking for something that'd be

    • Application based from a PC (not cloud based)
    • Allow for specific transferring of songs/genres/artists/playlists
    • Would be nice if it worked for other forms of media
    • Paid is fine

As a US consumer, does it make sense to stay away from all Chinese manufacturers for my next phone - not just Huawei?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2019 02:18 PM PDT

I'm considering buying a new phone. With all the news about Huawei, I've realized it's just not worth buying a phone from them anymore. A part of me thinks that it makes sense to also avoid other Chinese manufacturers (Xiaomi, Lenovo, OnePlus, ZTE, Oppo, etc. etc.) in case they're next on the chopping block. Is this rational?

Stuck at bootloader icon; cannot access to recovery/download mode. Bricked?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2019 08:04 PM PDT

TL;DR: I have a local off-brand tablet(2012 made) running custom rom designed specifically by local developers for my tablet model. The stock rom was 4.2.2(to my knowledge) and the custom rom was specified as 4.4.4. Then after experiencing an error while trying to install a bunch of apks, I decided to upgrade my OS. Since it wasn't available as stock, I decided to install a custom rom called Lineage OS 14. Before installing the custom rom, I needed to install custom recovery tool so I chose TWRP. Then I installed an apk for it from Google Play Store and let it install TWRP. After selecting my tablet's equivalent model(GT-N8013), it rebooted the tablet. Then it got stuck. No access to recovery mode or download mode. Not even adb/fastboot detects it. How can I fix this?

Hello everyone. First of all, I should say that I'm an android newbie. I've always used iDevices in my personel life. I'm not used to the whole custom rom/recovery concept. Just trying my best with basic knowledge. Let's start from the beginning.

I have a local off-brand (General Mobile) android tablet [as in eTab4 (it's the name given by the government program.).] which was given by the government for educational purposes. Don't get fooled by so called educational purposes 'cause it was heavily restricted by a custom rom [such as being not able to connect unauthorized WiFi networks, huge number of sites being blocked, not letting ppl to download or install apps from app store, filling the os with lots of junk bloatwares for again educational purposes that was a waste of resources and time (since the whole project was just a shit show, done only to just say "See! We have integrated technology into our education system blabla bla.") etc.].

At the end the government had handed out almost 1,5 million tablets(%7.69) (which was way below their project goal) in five years; later then had discontinued the program saying that they had been preparing another program about giving laptops, this time. I'm not saying they shouldn't do it. Just saying they should plan and program well before spending taxpayers' money.

Politics aside, I've got the first generation tablet came with 4.2.2. I didn't pay attention to the tablet so it didn't see the light of day for like 5 years. Then one day, a light bulb popped up in my head. All of a sudden, I remembered that I had a tablet under my hand. The thing was it was unusable for that time since I had to login my student account credential and also a unique code which was given by my high school for activation 5 years ago. After that I got frustrated. Began searching for fixes and all sorts of stuff. Then I became obsessed about getting it to work.

I've found out, I had to root the device. After a tiresome day it was done. Next, there was a thread about a custom rom specifically designed by local developers for these devices (to remove the limitations and get rid of the junk bloatware government put in.). (It was 2 years ago) I kinda remember installing this custom rom via adb or regular recovery mode(?) not sure which one was. Finally it was usable at the very least . But then I didn't use it that much. Recently, I tried downloading/installing bunch of apks (from google play and outside of it) but couldn't succeed. Apk installer kept failing. I can't write the specific error right now. But when I searched it, they were saying nothing can be done for kit-kat or something. That got me thinking, What if I upgraded the OS, could I finally install and use those apps. Later on I came across Lineage OS and Cyanogen. I checked my tablet's specifications. It was saying GT-N8013 with armeabi CPU. First things first,it was to install a custom recovery tool and in my case it was TWRP.

On sites and videos ppl were saying to put it into download mode and then installing via Odin. I couldn't put it into download mode. Only thing I could do was to put it into recovery. So I gave up this method. Then I saw some other method via installing an apk called Rashr which would do the job for me without having me do the download mode stuff. I was happy for a moment.

Then it all went downhill from there. Apk rebooted it, and few moments later the tablet got stuck in the bootloader. No matter what I do, It wouldn't go into recovery or download mode. Not even adb/fastboot detects it, now. How can I fix this or can I even fix this stuff?

My wallpaper doesn't move when I swipe to the left or right screens anymore.

    Posted: 02 Jun 2019 02:05 PM PDT

Since I have had my phone, my wallpaper has been a nice space scene which moved as I swiped to different screens. When I swiped left from the home screen, the background would adjust slightly to the left, and same for going to the right.

Well, I accidentally changed my wallpaper due to an app I installed, and when I changed it back it no longer moves as I swipe to different screens.

Does anyone know how to turn this option back on? Also, what is it called? It's hard to find info on something when I don't even know what to call it.

    Thanks for any assistance!

Does Snapchat so this to anyone else who owns an Android?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2019 03:53 PM PDT

I've been having a lot of problems regarding my snapchat on my Android. It has crashed, and most recently it takes HOURS to load my previous snaps/memories, and right now it does not let me upload snaps either. (Keeps saying: "failed to send snap). I have reinstalled, logged out and then logged in, closed the app, cleared cache, and upgraded the device and it STILL happens. Would this be different on a different phone? Is it the device itself? Anything would help.

    What phone should I get?

I currently have a 32 GB Moto G6, but for work I need something with at least 64 GB of storage and SD cards don't really do what I need. I am currently looking at the BLU G9 because it is one of the few budget phones that comes with Android 9.

However whenever i try to move apps around on a separate window/screen, i need to use the tip of my finger because there is such a small space where i can select the second window to move apps around. Is there anyway I can decrease the boundary size of my screen so that the very outer edge is moved in a few millimeters?

Looking for an inexpensive small tablet. Any suggestions?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2019 05:49 AM PDT

I want a small tablet for home control mostly.

It shouldn't have any bloat on it if possible. Just need it to cast Netflix/YouTube to tv or music to my speakers and control my lights.

If the screen is decent I'd probably also use it for ebooks or YouTube and basic web browsing.

Don't need super specs, because I think streaming an HD video is the heaviest workload it'll do.

I considered the Amazon Fire tablets, but they seem to have a lot of unnecessary bloat.

    Any ideas guys?
