How to connect a netgear to modem via WiFi? Posted: 01 Jun 2019 09:08 PM PDT Hey so I moved into a new house and my modem and router in one is downstairs and my PC which doesn't connect to WiFi is upstairs. I bought a Netgear R6400 and was hoping it would connect to my downstairs modem via WiFi and then I can plug my desktop into the netgear router.. but I can't get it to work. Any ideas? Posted: 01 Jun 2019 11:00 PM PDT Greeting, new to networking. Im going to move in a new appartement and the landlord is giving the internet via wifi its part of the contract and i pay for it. My question is: what the best way to be on the network and using the internet accest while being invisible on the network. My computer motherboards only have a network cable, no wifi card. We cannot pass cable inside the building Should i use a router as a bridge? Any ideas? Thanks A noob. [link] [comments] |
Which Splitter setup is better for my situation? Posted: 01 Jun 2019 07:26 PM PDT Hello, I currently have a 2-way and a 3-way splitter in my wall at the Xfinity cable entrance into my house. I have several MoCA devices as well (TiVo Minis and a couple of MoCA 2.5 adapters.). See the images for my current setup as well as the question at hand. What I am wondering, is if it is better to have a single 4-way splitter in the wall instead? Mainly, how would that influence the quality to the MoCA devices? The killer is that I have some unknown splitter up in the attic that I don't really plan to dig around and find. But anyway, please take a look at my layout (the only differences are in that wall and then swapping the splitter in the crawlspace). Let me know if my current is better or "option B". Thanks! Router drops wireless connections. Wired connections still working. Posted: 01 Jun 2019 04:30 PM PDT Problem: Wireless devices lose connection. SSID is still being broadcast. Wired devices still work. Devices: Modem - Motorola SB6121 Router - TP-LINK WR841N Wired - Desktop, smart garage door opener, Pi Zero running Pi Hole Wireless - 5 phones/tablets, 3 laptops, 2 TVs The problem often coincides with a new device connecting. THE SSID will disappear for a moment, but reappears within a minute. After reappearing, wireless devices are still unable to connect. Wired devices work. Restarting the router gets it going again. Some router logs: [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jun 2019 03:45 PM PDT The wifi signal was from another ssid I have seen before so I decided to walk around to any devices nearby to see if the signal changed. At the router itself the home network was strongest when I got to my fathers laptop the other SSID was stronger. Could anyone explain why that could be? I am just hoping that his laptop has not been a a rogue AP and try to figure out exactly where that SSID is? I thought neighbors at first and it very well could be but why would a neighbor's ssid be stronger in the home? Router location? Laptop itself has something on it I might be unaware of? What should be my steps to determine this other SSID. It is not open And uses WPA/WPA2-WPS on I noticed the actual home network has WPA2/WPS on I will have To disable that once I get the chance. Any advice will be appreciated and I thank anyone for answering or Recommendations on figuring this out. If this is common I apologies For asking. I am just curious as to why the signal was strongest next to the laptop and changed to be the strongest next to the router. If you need any information let me me know and I will post anything needed. UK Virgin Media ISP Download Speeds Posted: 01 Jun 2019 02:25 PM PDT Hey all I'm supposed to get 200mbps (I know heavier traffic can slow the network down at peak times), however if I'm downloading a large file, such as a 95gb game on Xbox, the speed is inconsistent; it stays at around 130mbps then dips for about 40 seconds, sometimes over a minute, then it increases again for a short amount of time to about 180mbps. I'm using the standard virgin media superhub 3. Any of you got an suggestions on what router might give a more consistent speed? Traffic in my house is usually medium to heavy. Note: if I'm posting this in the wrong place, do let me know. Cheers! [link] [comments] |
Tip of my tongue: adhesive hangers to run ethernet cable? Posted: 01 Jun 2019 01:16 PM PDT The house I'm moving into doesn't want people to drill holes in the wall and I'm wondering what I should do to run ethernet across the house without driling any holes. I used to have these adhesive hangers that I forgot the name of and I was wondering if anyone's got a name or even a link of something they'd recommend. I'd also like to know of any suction hangers as that would also prevent any paint damage. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
