Arris Modem Factory Reset Hard Locked? Posted: 03 May 2019 03:31 PM PDT I have an Arris DG-2470 modem/router combo. I can access the gateway and see the login screen, but the username and password is not any combination of normal credentials. I called my ISP and they said that they do not give that information out. So I'm trying to factory reset the device. I've looked at the manual online and used the 15 second reset button method, but it doesn't work. I've also tried the mentioned 30-30-30 method, but still nothing. The WiFi SSIDs remain unchanged, and I still cannot log in with any combination of credentials. Is it possible for my ISP to have blocked factory resets in some way? If so, how can I bypass it? I mainly want to use it to be in control of my own WiFi SSIDs and passwords without going through my ISP to set these. [link] [comments] |
Abysmal upload speed while hardwired to modem Posted: 03 May 2019 08:41 AM PDT I'm paying for 200mbps down and 10mbps up. Download speed seems fine but the upload speed sits at a constant 0.3-0.5mbps 24/7. It's been like this for about 2 months now. ISP has no clue (although I have a feeling they do) after calling them numerous times for a fix. Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 May 2019 02:22 PM PDT Hi, I have one router with OpenWRT installed on it, and I want to use it as my "main" router. I said "main" because what I have in mind is this connection Internet -- ISP Router -- OpenWRT Router -- All devices in home Internet -- ISP Router = Coaxial cable ISP Router -- OpenWRT = RJ45 OpenWRT -- Devices = Wi-Fi The reason of this is because if I change of ISP or I move home, I will have all my devices with the static ip assigned. And also I wanto to access from Internet to a device connected on OpenWRT Router (Domotic HomeAssistant). Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Port Forwarding for torrent seeding (with DCHP) Posted: 03 May 2019 02:20 PM PDT For once, there is someone that is trying to use torrent clients LEGALLY, and my post gets deleted on r/Torrents. I really hope I can find someone here able to help, because I need to give these files to my classmates as soon as possible. I'm really not very savvy in this regard, never played around much with modems and routers and their settings. I'm trying to send some files to my classmates but the torrent does not seed. I called my ISP and they finally gave me permission to access my modem's settings (they've refused multiple other times). It's a DSL modem with Ethernet and Wireless outputs, so I guess it's a modem-router device. Before opening the port, a few of my friends had already connected even if upload/download was not starting. (I could see them in the peers list) I have a dynamic IP and considering I don't have a router, I don't see a reason to make it static. The modem has it's own IP address, no matter what IP it assigns to my PC, right? Anyway, while having DHCP activated, I can't change the IP address for the port I want to forward. The first digits of the IP are already set and I can only change the last digits. [Screenshot Here](https://i.imgur.com/XR4MF0v.png) I haven't tried making it static, but I'm concerned about the security issues it might cause. I tried opening a port, but it still shows as ["stealth" on GRC](https://i.imgur.com/NaMwzKu.png). After allegedly opening this port, my friends disappeared from the peers list on qBittorrent. My dynamic IP address is completely different from the modem's static address and all the subsequent addresses that are assigned to smartphones and other wireless devices (which are the same as the modem's except for the last 3 digits). If I open this port on my modem, doesn't it also remain open for my PC, no matter what IP is assigned to it? My qBittorrent settings should be okay, and UPnP is enabled. Why isn't it working? Should I reset the router? Should I change the IP to static? What are the consequences of using the same IP address across 2-3 computers and over 5 smartphones? The modem's settings have lots of options and I don't really know most of them. Static Assigned DHCP Clients,Ethernet based bridging, Network Configuration -> LAN, WAN; Port Triggering, Dynamic DNS, Port Filtering, DMZ and lots of other stuff. Is any of these settings responsible? I'm on IPv4 btw and qBittorrent is allowed on the Windows Firewall rules... EDIT: I just checked and my PC (ethernet) has a static IP according to the 192.168.0.1 page. The wireless devices have a dynamic one. [link] [comments] |
Got a new switch... Fan is bloody noise.. rather than replacing, could I just disconnect it? Posted: 03 May 2019 01:50 PM PDT Hey Folks So I brought a D-LINK DGS-1510-20, when spend £170 on a switch, I expected less (noise)! I know some people just replace the fan, I've seen some people seem to recommend Noctua NF-A4x10 FLX. But is a fan really necessary, there is barely anything inside the box, and the case if fairly thin metal. Has anybody attempted this? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Do printers/scanners belong in IoT VLAN or main VLAN? Posted: 03 May 2019 11:27 AM PDT Trying to segregate risky devices, can't make up my mind for printers/scanners. I'd like to hear your views. [link] [comments] |
I'm just a guy that needs an 8 port Gigabit Switch Posted: 03 May 2019 09:52 AM PDT Hi everyone, I'll keep it short and sweet. I have an ethernet port in my wall and AT&T fiber pumping up to 1 gigabit per second into it. I want to hard wire my 4K receiver, 4K Apple TV, Xbox and PlayStation Etc into that port. From what I read, I need what is called a switch. I know very little about this stuff and most of what I read appears as if it is in a different language. Would you recommend which switch for me to buy? I can't trust Amazon reviews anymore. [link] [comments] |

Better Router or Get an Extender? Posted: 03 May 2019 03:50 PM PDT My wife and I just moved into a new home and, obnoxiously, the internet hook-up is in the garage. We're on a 100 Mbps plan with Spectrum, and they gave us a Sagemcom Fast 5260 router. Right now, in the bedroom/kitchen (near the garage) SpeedTest gives me 70-100 Mbps, but in the living room or office (far from the garage) I get anywhere from 20-60 Mbps. We stream a fair amount on multiple devices (including Roku instead of cable for our TV) so I want to make sure I'm getting plenty of connectivity. So here's my question - am I better off getting a more powerful router to replace the one in the garage that Spectrum gave us? Or getting a booster/extender on the other side of the house? At first it seemed like a booster was an obvious choice, but then I read that they can cut your speed in half, so I dunno. Thanks in advance for anyone's help or advice! [link] [comments] |

ASUS AC3100 and embedded wifi issues Posted: 03 May 2019 03:17 PM PDT Hello, I have two ASUS AC3100s providing wifi for my home and have been very happy with them. They talk to Laptops, iPads and Phones without a hitch and provide excellent coverage. I have been fighting other issues though. I have an Epson ET-3600 printer, and while I can get it to connect to the wifi, after a couple of hours I can no longer ping it until I cycle power on it. I assumed it was poor printer firmware, as everything else was happy. In an attempt to alleviate the issue I recently tried a TP-Link wifi extender with a physical ethernet output. I could not make it work and as a wifi extender it would barely work (fought it a bunch, got it to work once, but never again). I tossed it in the trash and bought an IOGear Wireless to Wired adapter. On this device I could never make it connect via SSID/Password, only WPS and even then it I could not get the wired device to work properly. This, along with some other equipment which had issues made me once again suspect the ASUS routers. Anyone else experience such issues? I was running the latest firmware but recently switched to the Merlin firmware, but still no luck. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 May 2019 11:21 AM PDT I have a Belkin Belkin AC1900 Dual-Band Gigabit Router How can I monitor the bandwidth of the devices connected to this router. If its not possible, is there a wifi router that will allow me to monitor this? [link] [comments] |
Configuring a wireless bridge between home routers Posted: 03 May 2019 05:16 PM PDT I just want to make sure I do this properly, I am a first time renter and my landlord does not have a WiFi password and the WiFi is shared across all the tenants. The router password is default with admin:admin (typical) his router is Linksys E1200. Mine is EA7400 AC1900. What I want to be able to do is bridge the connection between his router and mine so I can have a separate connection, but maintain as much bandwidth as possible. They would be bridged wirelessly. I need to set up a linksys wrt54g running dd-wrt v24sp2 as a wireless bridge, repeater or switch Posted: 03 May 2019 11:06 AM PDT I don't have many other resources besides the main router (netgear not running ddwrt), the secondary router where a few computers will be connected and a few cables. Both routers are close but on different floors so running a cable is not viable. Also, should I upgrade the firmware for this situation? Since this is a very old router which is the latest version this router can run? Also, if I'm asking in the wrong sub let me know [link] [comments] |
Switching from AT&T provided router Posted: 03 May 2019 04:49 PM PDT Hello, I hope somebody can answer this. Right now I have AT&T router access point. I want to switch it for one of my own. What I currently have from ATT is fiber optic coming to the house and then I have a router access point from them. I'm replacing it with a ubiquiti Amplifi HD. I'm going to keep the same SS ID, and password, so all of my smart devices will not notice a change. But what I don't know does AT&T use anything from the router that they provide for authentication? Like the MAC address of the router. Can I completely switch it out and not use theirs at all? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Flat gigabit ethernet cable options (ideally in Europe) Posted: 03 May 2019 08:02 AM PDT Looking for an ethernet cable which matches the following criteria:
I already tried cutting pre-terminated cat5e/cat6 patch cables (the ones you find on ebay/aliexpress), but it's impossible because the individual wires are hot pressed into the outer cable. Also, flat cables are a must in this case, because drilling walls is not an option. It's in a really old house protected by cultural landmark laws. Any suggestions welcome. [link] [comments] |
Slow network transfer speeds with gigabit switch Posted: 03 May 2019 12:47 PM PDT Hi all, I had a slow switch that I thought was limiting my transfers speeds to about 11mbps, so I upgraded to a gigabit switch. Still no dice. 11mbps with the switch and about 55 without. I'm transferring files from my pc to my nvidia shield. I'm using an asus rt-n66u and tp link tl-sg1005. Thanks for any ideas. Wake on WAN Works But Not Wake on LAN Posted: 03 May 2019 04:12 PM PDT Seems backwards, but the title says it all. I used to have my Plex server set up perfectly so that I could wake it up on LAN via my phone when I was at home and even programmed my Google Mini to wake up my server by telling it a command. When I wasn't home I could wake it up remotely, again by my phone. It wasn't always like this. I struggled to get it to work this way. Turns out, I needed to get a downgraded version of my network adapter driver. So I recently had some HDD issues and swapped out my main drive for an SSD. In doing so I decided to do a clean install instead of cloning. I remembered I needed to get the old network adapter driver (I backed this up and know I'm using the same one) and I set all the power management settings to allow magic packets. My router has the server IP reserved and port 9 forwarded. I even double checked BIOS to make sure all was still good. Waking remotely from outside my network works fine always. However, after about 5 to 10 minutes of my server being asleep, LAN no longer works. Which means telling my Google Mini to "Wake Plex" no longer works. I actually have to turn off WiFi on my phone to then send a Wake on WAN signal. Anyone ever run across this? I'm running an ASUS P9x79 LE motherboard and I know it's possible with my current setup because I did it before. Any help would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Router for Home Networking - LOTS of Devices Posted: 03 May 2019 10:12 AM PDT Hello! I'm looking for a recommendation for a router to support a Comcast Gigabit connection (which is 1000 down / 45 up). I have around 30 devices in total at home, between several game consoles, laptops, iPhones, and IoT devices). The house itself is 1,500 sq feet (so not huge), no thick walls or issues in that regard. However, *installing wired cabling is not an option* at present so need a wifi router that can handle these devices banging away at it with lots of Netflix watching, gaming, etc. (yes, very much aware gaming is sub-optimal on a wifi connection however no one is going pro at this point in their lives). I have a 1st gen Eero setup that is good with range, but I think is struggling to handle all of the requests coming in (during peak use time there's lots of buffering, etc.). I would say the following are my hopes with the system (in descending order of importance): Performance of many devices for the gigabit connection (i.e. reduce the buffering, etc.) Reliability of the router (no lost connections, or dropped connections are extremely rare) Gaming performance (minimal delay over the wifi - I know wired is better but as good as we can get here) Remote support capabilities (Eero app, I know Ubiquiti has its cloud key, etc. - Something using a mobile device to turn on/off guest network, etc) "Home appropriateness" - By this I mean rack-mount stuff is out for now, need something that can sit on a shelf generating minimal noise / heat. Sorry if this is over-detailed, but I figured it best to give more information than less. Thanks in advance for any ideas on what might work best. [link] [comments] |
Looking for suggestion to improve my home network Posted: 03 May 2019 10:09 AM PDT Hey all, I currently live with 3 roommates and we share my Verizon Fios gigabit service. I currently am using a Netgear AC1200 Wireless router. I've not been very happy with the consistency of my connection lately. I game online a lot and have been getting a lot of ping spikes usually when my roommates get home as I'm assuming they're firing up Netflix or something. I've tried setting up QoS rules as I've done to handle this issue in the past but it hasn't really seemed to help all that much. I primarily use WiFi as I'm far from the router and running a cable isn't really feasible. I also have powerline adapters which help sometimes, but I tend to stick to WiFi just because I get way higher up/down speeds. I know WiFi is always going to have some ping spikes but I feel like it's happening way more frequently than it was with my previous router (TP-Link AC1750, I sold it to my old roommates). So should I just look into buying a better router? Any suggestions other than going back to the TP-Link model I had before? I ended up going with the Netgear when I moved just because it was cheap and had good reviews, but I've not been very impressed with it. The firmware was very buggy in the beginning and would constantly log me out until I was able to update it. The firmware also doesn't seem to have any monitoring tools to help me troubleshoot issues. Would switching to DD-WRT firmware help with this? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 May 2019 10:43 AM PDT I upgraded to gigabit speed about 7 months ago. I have an arris sb8200 modem and a netgear r7800. I have been running voxel .61 FW. It had connection issues for a while until I turned my xbox one to non quick start up. It has been solid since. Until Last week it started dropping connection every 20 minutes. I upgraded to voxel .65 and same issues. I tried downgrading to stock .46, and same issue. I have now tried going with the most updated stock FW, and same issue. I have called my provider, and they say they can see 3 of my 4 ports closed... most times a router power cycle fixes it for about 20 minutes. Sometimes I have to do multiple power cycles or have my provider se d a reset... I am at a loss. Any ideas? Did my new r7800 crap out in me? Should I swap it for an Asus ac86u? Any help would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Eero 2G vs Google Wifi Vs Amplifi for best range Posted: 03 May 2019 07:52 AM PDT I am looking to add a mesh network to my home and the most important aspect to me is range. All of my important devices (NAS, TV, Gaming, etc) are hard wired so the mesh network will be primarily for phones, computers, and smart devices (lifx, hue, nest, google devices, etc). My furthest points are my roof deck and cars (detached garage). This is why range is most important. My set up will be XFi 1gb wifi router/modem in living room, mesh device hardwired into network in central location, then mesh device outside of roof deck and another at the back of the house closest to the garage. Any suggestions? [link] [comments] |
