Posted: 15 May 2019 09:40 PM PDT It seems to be almost arbitrary what games cause it. Some games like assassins creed origins, skyrim, hitman, all run fine 90% of the time (may crash maybe once a day if that) but then things like seige, overwatch, literally any game that runs on unity. Will cause it to flick off almost immediate. Previously it would just flip off completley at random but that seems to have stopped and now its only games that cause it. And my wifi card now no longer stays connected to the internet for more than 2 minutes (unsure if related) [link] [comments] |

How do I remote control by dad's PC? Posted: 15 May 2019 05:38 AM PDT My dad's been suffering from eyesight loss due to surgery complications, so now he can't operate his PC properly anymore. He's literally sitting less than a foot away from a 60" TV screen the PC is connected to, to operate it using the magnifier Windows tool. With that he can manage emails and money issues, but that's it. Now I don't live in town (or country), but one of my dad's last joys including TV or PC is watching football (European) since he can somewhat follow the red and black dots if he sits close enough. Unfortunately he can't afford all these packages they have nowadays, so I've shown him how to live stream things. Unfortunately those pages change a lot and are full of annoying ad popups and sometimes they randomly stop. I'd like to be able to operate Google Chrome for him from my home so he can just sit there and enjoy 90 minutes of football every once in a while. I'd appreciate any input and thanks in advance [link] [comments] |
I want to frame my old phone but not sure if it's safe Posted: 16 May 2019 02:45 AM PDT I've wanted to do this for some time now. I saw another reddit user deconstruct and frame his iPhone so I wanted to do the same for my old Prestigio phone. But is framing the battery safe ? Like could it make some issues ? I know It isn't supposed to be exposed to direct strong sunlight, but I got 2 ideas where to frame it. 1. On a wall on which sunlight might hit it from the side 2. On a shelf which occasionally the sun might hit it when it is setting. The battery has been sitting by itself (not in the phone )in a drawer for a year now. [link] [comments] |

New PC Build Won't Post, DRAM error light on Posted: 16 May 2019 12:42 AM PDT Build: (https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Y3cpCb) Getting stressed out trying to get this new build to boot up- just to BIOS would make me happy right now. I put it all together, flipped the PSU switch and the RGBs all lit up and everything seemed like it was going to be fine, so I pressed the power button and the fans kicked on, and the hard drive in the system started it's little mechanical creaks; I waited for the screen to change to a logo, for the BIOS to pop up or really for anything to happen- nothing did. I realize at this point that the mouse and keyboard haven't lit up like they normally do. I try again and get the same result. The manual is garbage and I can't fine any way to reset it so I pull the CMOS battery and wait 10 minutes. Flip the PSU switch, MOBO RBGs kick on, hit the power and nothing happens. I power down and back on a few times while looking at the board to see if anything unusual is happening. When I first hit the power button a CPU error light turns on for about a second, then it shuts off and the DRAM error light turns on. I start thinking there's an issue with the RAM. I do the old "Put One In Each Slot" technique and it never POSTs. I read online about people going to "backup BIOS" using a reset button- the reset button wires for this case broke off years ago when I was cleaning it out, so I can't make that happen. They list another method where they jump some points but nobody can tell me where it is and I can't find the place no matter how hard I look. I try booting with no GPU, No USB stuff and a stick of RAM in every slot. Took ages and got me nowhere. Now that i'm typing this I guess I haven't tried disconnecting the hard drives. I also haven't checked to make sure the CPU is oriented right. I also haven't tried any different RAM because i'm all out of DDR4 in the house at the moment and by the time I was having this issue every store was closed. Not to mention I can't find the RAM compatibility list for this MOBO. So that's the issue i'm having. Tomorrow i'm going to get some different RAM, if I haven't solved the issue before then. In the meantime i'll try getting it running without hard drives connected and I guess i'll check the CPU orientation. Other than that- if anybody had any ideas or familiarity with a similar issue I would love to hear any help, advice or tips they could provide. Thank You. [link] [comments] |
Playing 4k video on Samsung UHDTV is glitchy Posted: 16 May 2019 03:23 AM PDT I tagged this as a software issue but it could very well be hardware. Any help would be appreciated. Hardware: I am trying to play a 4k video (.mkv) on my new Samsung 4k UHDTV. The video file plays seamlessly on my 4k pc via MPC from my external hdd with no problems. However, when I try to play the file on the Samsung 4k TV (obviously via USB), there are parts of the video that glitch out and tear. The picture quality then fixes seconds later. In my TV's picture settings, I've tried toggling HDR+ and Movie mode but to no avail. After looking online at the Samsung User Manual, it looks as if the tv supports mkv's. I wish I knew more about codecs, refresh rates and hardware compatibility to identify the problem, but I just don't. Here's a couple possible important pages from the user manual as well as MPC stats of video Edit: typo [link] [comments] |
My Laptop lags when I download at a very high speed. Posted: 16 May 2019 03:08 AM PDT Here's my LAPTOP specs Acer Aspire E 15 [15-576G]
When I try to download a huge file (5GB) @ 30MB/s, my laptop lags and when I try to observe the task manager to trace the problem, it seems all normal. 8% CPU usage, 40% RAM usage... But when I try to download it @ 10MB/s, the lag disappeared. Why is that? BTW, I'm using Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller 10.16.323.2017 [link] [comments] |
Low fps since cable management Posted: 16 May 2019 02:54 AM PDT Hi folks, I recently done some cable management in a friends pc. Ever since I've done this he's went from about 140+fps in most games on ultra, down to around 50 - 80fps. Cpu usage is moderately high in comparison to the gpu usage. I've done everything I can think of, essentially doing a full rebuild of the machine and it keeps happening. Full graphics card driver reinstallation has been done also. Been doing Google-Fu since Saturday evening due to this issue and going to take my pc up to test his graphics card in my machine on the off chance it's something to do with that. Does anyone have any idea of what this issue could be or even suggestions on what I could do? Would be handy to have a fresh set of eyes. Specs of the machine: MSI B450-a Pro, R5 2600, gskill ripjaws V 3200 16gb, gtx 1080. Windows 10. Also using a 1080p, 144hz monitor. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Laptop minimal processor state changes to 100% Posted: 16 May 2019 12:00 AM PDT Hi My laptop ( ASUS X550J ) recently started producing a lot more heat than ususal while only performing everyday tasks such as youtube and small games (HoMM 3). This is making my fan working on a high level where it used to be silent. I went to the advanced power settings and noticed that my minimal processor state were at 100%, I changed it back to the factory 5%, but when i closed the tab and reopened it, it had returned to 100%. Any idea what can cause this problem, and are there any fixes? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Need Help With My New PCs Performance. Posted: 15 May 2019 08:15 PM PDT PLEASE HELP, I was inspired by courage's pc and i went out and built a monster. My specs are a RTX 2080 TI Amp Extreme, i9-9900k, Asus ROG XI hero motherboard, Samsung EVO 1TB 2.5inch SATA SSD, and i even bought a Corsair liquid CPU cooler, and i have Corsair 32g DDR4 Ram, but i mostly never stay at 240 and never hit 400 ever only when looking straight up in the bus, before the players jump. While i see courage with a standard founders edition of the RTX2080 ti hitting 300-400 fps constantly and I've followed a lot of videos on how to increase FPS and yet i'm nowhere near those numbers. please I saved up for about a year and a half and i'm beginning to feel real sad as i cant find an answer as to why theirs such a difference. The game i'm playing is Fortnite. most streamers always have a consistent 240 and i have practically the same if not better of a build please help. [link] [comments] |
Windows 10 not loading drivers on startup Posted: 16 May 2019 03:56 AM PDT I've got windows 10 installed on my PC, over the past year it's been working perfectly. Tonight I plugged in an SD card from my 3D printer that I've used hundreds of times before, it made the chime but didnt register, then my keyboard cut out (razer x chroma) and my mouse stopped working. I've restarted the PC several times and it boots fine, auto logs in to my desktop. But no I/O drivers seem to be loading. The USB ports don't work (they do in the bios), the Ethernet port doesn't work (team viewer can't connect to server) and the audio doesn't work (task bar icon has red 'X' on it) Any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
laptop stopped overclocking and keeps creating folders Posted: 16 May 2019 03:38 AM PDT So there's currently 2 issues at hand. 1) I play a few mainstream steam games on this laptop and it used to run them just fine on the highest settings with spotify/chrome running in the back but in the past week I've experienced a lot of lag and drops in frames out of nowhere. I ran CCleaner and used the windows 'auto tune performance' but nothing changed. This morning I ran my game along with chrome, netflix and a big excel spreadsheet and opened the performance tab on the task manager to see how the computer reacted, only to find the cpu still running at it's base speed of 2.81GHz (It has overclocked to 3.8GHz in the past). Both the fans did come online when i did this and pushed out a lot of air so it's not heating up all that much but not overclocking either. Any ideas as to what might be causing this to happen? 2) This laptop has been bought fairly recently (5 months) and about 3 months ago I was going through my drives when I found a folder named " 00 " in my D drive and it contained nothing so i deleted it. A week from this, I came back to the drive to find 10 more empty folders. Their named increase alphabetically so from 00, the next one is 0b and the one after is 0c and it goes on to 0f and then changed to 1a and then to 1f, all way till " ff " which is the last folder it has created. These are roughly 150 folders now. I delete them thinking they're basically just useless junk taking up space but they keep coming back and now almost all of them are filled with some files that go up to 10 mb in size with their file type being " FILE File (.file) " and they are named randomly consisting of lower case letters and number digits making a 20-30 letter string. Again any idea what might be causing this? I know they aren't windows files because my windows drive is C but im no computer genius so pls help out, thanks! laptop specs: HP Pavilion Power 15 Core i7-7700HQ @ 2.80GHz (base speed 2.81GHz, overclockable to 3.8GHz) GeForce GTX 1050 4GB 16 GB RAM Win 10 64bit [link] [comments] |

Running an old Hypercard stack on modern computer? Posted: 15 May 2019 07:22 PM PDT Me and my buddies discovered an old CD-R containing an "epic" hypercard "movie" that we made around 2001 (I could elaborate if I need to) and I've been trying to run it on multiple laptops (an old macbook and a newish PC) with no luck. I can't find a good emulator to download and I'm running out of ideas, outside of trying to find an old macbook g3... Does anyone have any ideas? [link] [comments] |
i'm not sure if this belongs here, but the pin in the charging port in my laptop has fallen out. Posted: 15 May 2019 10:33 PM PDT i can still reattach it by using a small earpick to push it back into it's hole, but it still falls out if i try to fumble with it. i was wondering if i could superglue the end of the pin to the hole so it stays in place, but i don't know if that would affect charging it in any way. it still works if i were to plug in a charger (which, i regret since i got it cheap online and is likely what caused the pin to fall out) and move it around a bit as if i were to charge a broken iphone charger, but that's about it. this is what the port looks like, and my laptop is an ASUS X553M. Help! Issue with PS3 Controller Axes Posted: 16 May 2019 02:46 AM PDT I've been trying to use my PS3 controller to play PC games, and everything is working fine.. except for one issue. When I walk forward in a game, the camera turns to the left. For example, if I'm playing Skyrim and I push the left stick forward, I'll start walking in a circle to the left. I had a look at this site https://html5gamepad.com/ and found the problem. When I push the left stick up (axis 1) for some reason it thinks I'm pushing the right stick to the left also (axis 2). When I push the left stick down it does the same thing, but in the right direction. How can I fix this problem? Any help is greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |

"Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration" Posted: 15 May 2019 08:11 PM PDT A bit ago my pc just stopped connecting to the internet, I've tried a bunch of the methods from here (https://windowsreport.com/ethernet-valid-ip-configuration-windows-10/) as well getting an ethernet adaptor. So far nothing works, the only thing I haven't tried is a different cable, but that cable works for everything else So I don't believe that it's that. I've also connected it to a laptop got the ipv4 ips from it and tried to manually enter it that way, and it would say that it was online, but I couldn't connect it to anything. Please help! Windows automatically setting core affinity. Posted: 16 May 2019 02:07 AM PDT I have an AMD 10-5800k (I know it's old) and recently I've noticed that it's automatically setting the core affinity on any program to last two cores instead of all 4. It's not much of an issue for regular web browsing but when playing games I have to manually set it to all cores (like for Apex/Origin, Gmod, etc.) Honestly can't think of what is going on, I haven't made many tweaks to my pc other than just an OC to the cpu. Any suggestions are welcome (please save me from frame-chug hell). Edit: Running Windows 10 btw [link] [comments] |
