End the Windows Boot loop: The single line of code that saved my PC yesterday. Posted: 12 Apr 2019 01:35 AM PDT Yesterday I had gotten myself into the dreaded boot loop, or when your PC boots > Fails to load twice > Tries to fix itself > cant > sticks you into the recovery environment. From here you can wipe your PC, Attempt a restore point, a few other options, but importantly, enter CMD prompt. Im a producer and I have 100Gbs of un-backed-up samples and unfinished songs ( I know I'll sort it soon) and so loosing this wasn't an option, and the restore point failed so that also wasn't an option. After scouring I came across a few lines of CMD commands that didn't quite work, but after a bit of tweaking combined them to work for my situation. The code (designed to be entered into X:/ CMD which you'll often enter during a OS failure) is; As I understand it, when your OS fails it loads into the recovery partition (X:/) which effectively replaces C:/. This causes every other drive to be relabeled up one letter (C > D, D > E etc...) hence why this code is aimed at D:/ and not C:/. This code checks your C:/ OS files (Now D:/) against either an online record or some internal resource, I'm not sure exactly, and upon finding corrupt files, it replaces them. It took me 10-15m, but I've heard hearsay that it can take up to an hour so make a coffee and grab a book. After this it'll give you some kind conformation to the effect of "some files were corrupted but replaced successfully" after which you should close CMD then click the option, "continue to windows 10" It'll then restart and upon reload look like its installing a windows update ("installing windows updates XX% complete) and will likely restart 4-5 times. Then, if our savior Bill Gates is smiling upon you, you should be greeted with your usual log in screen with all of your files intact as if nothing untoward happened. I really hope this helps someone cause I know what its like to have your PC brick on you outta nowhere. :) x Edit: There might be a possible cause in the interaction between AMD drivers and the 1803 update, but will need more reports of this happening. My brother in IT revealed to me since that he had a group of machines go down after update at work, so there could be a link/links somewhere. [link] [comments]

How to disable copying between drives? Posted: 12 Apr 2019 04:20 PM PDT I was able to do this on my desktop, however, I forgot to sort it on my laptop and now it's starting to irritate me. Basically, whenever I drag and drop a file from my desktop (on C drive) to a location on my D drive, it copies the file instead of moving it. How do I change this so that it moves the file and does not leave the original behind? [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Apr 2019 05:39 PM PDT I keep on getting the Activate Windows watermark, I tried going in and changing the start to 4. That worked for one restart of my computer. Can I just delete the entire folder named svsvc in order to get it to go away forever? [link] [comments]
Cannot Access log-in screen, settings, and many other applications Posted: 12 Apr 2019 02:48 PM PDT I currently have my PC on. Like most start-ups, I see the time and day in the bottom left with my typical background. When I try to progress to the user selection screen, the screen is left blank with the exception of my wallpaper and a few icons (power, time, pc) at the bottom right. There is no visible way to access my user. I cannot seem to progress. I can't even access the power button -- when I do I get taken back to the start-up screen after the typical blue loading orb appears. Before I was having trouble accessing settings, and it got to the point where I was completely unable to access all settings and windows related apps. This all started when my pc failed to install Net Framework. I went through a variety of problems and errors and failed to install it after many of these solutions failed. By the time I failed to install Net Framework, I was left with more errors than I had previously. I tried to fix them. My attempt to fix only made things worse. This snowballed into my current situation. Lastly, I'm unsure if this is of any help, but this pc uses multiple hard-drives. Any idea what this is? A few commands I tried prior to this bug encounter in Command Prompt: *chkdsk /f *sfc/scannow *I also reinstalled my drivers after following instructions on a post to restore my settings access. I was told if I uninstall my driver and restart my pc, I might prevent settings from crashing. With the following commands above this only seemed to make things worse Update: After restarting my pc I recieve a Recovery message Recovery Your PC/Device needs to be repaired The application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors. File: \windows\system32\winload.efi Error Code: 0xc0000098 [link] [comments]
Windows 10 startup problem when booting up in the morning Posted: 12 Apr 2019 07:59 PM PDT Whenever I get up in the morning and boot up my PC I will get a blue screen error. This only happens when I start it up after it's been off for awhile. I custom built my PC and it didn't have any issues until after a couple months. It's a really powerful gaming desktop so I don't see why it should be doing this. [link] [comments]
Windows swapping monitors when PC wakes up (Win8.1) Posted: 12 Apr 2019 05:22 PM PDT It's a mild annoyance but one that drives me nuts. Seems to have happened after buying a high resolution monitor. So here's my setup. I've always had my monitor as the main screen. To my left, hooked up as a second monitor is a large 55 inch TV. Reason being, this PC is my go-to for all my media I watch. I like to pull up Netflix, pop in a DVD, or whatever the hell it is I'm watching and drag it over to the large TV. Always been my thing, never had any odd foibles with it until recently. I bought an Acer Predator 4K monitor. My former monitor's resolution was 1920X1080 and now I like running things in the Predator's native 3840x2160 resolution. Quite a jump. But shit's been getting kind of funny ever since this. When my PC goes to sleep and then I come back and wake it up, I go where is the window I had open? Minimized? I click it on the taskbar. Nothing. Then it dawns on me. Son of a bitch, for some reason it's on the other screen now. The 55-inch TV likes to turn its self completely off when it detects no signal (vs. the monitor which is tailored to running on a PC and therefore simply just goes to sleep and wakes back up with the computer). So I get to go through the extra effort of grabbing the remote, turning a damn TV back on, and dragging the window I was using back in front of me to the main monitor. Just getting old. Now, I never had this issue running the 1920x1080 resolution so sure, I can probably just set it back to that and when I still load up games I can have the game set to the higher resolution and enjoy 4K where it really counts. But honestly, I like the extra room of the high res screen and quite frankly, I want to have my cake and eat it too lol. Anyone know any work-arounds for this? All I get when I try to google things like "why do my windows trade screens when my computer goes to sleep" are results to alter your sleep settings and I really don't think I'm going to find my solutions there. Posted: 12 Apr 2019 04:37 PM PDT The Problem The Surface Go comes with Windows 10 S Mode. Fine. For 99% of use it's probably fine. However, I can't install Adobe Reader - and that makes things problematic, because I use Reader to sign/edit PDFs frequently. I do have a full Windows 10 laptop I can use, but this Go is for business purposes, thus I figured I would upgrade to Home and be done with it. Unfortunately, it seems to absolutely require you to enter a Microsoft account for bizarre reasons. Fine, I have an Office 365 Business Premium account. Doesn't accept that, wants a consumer account. Which I have, but shouldn't be entered on THIS computer. So the question: how exactly does one get out of S Mode without entering a Microsoft account? [link] [comments]
Does windows automatically convert an MBR SSD to GPT during install? Posted: 12 Apr 2019 04:28 PM PDT I found out I accidentally installed my current windows 10 using legacy bios mode( not sure how, all I know is it says legacy when checking my system information, even though my bios is the new kind where I can use the mouse). If I re make the install usb using FAT32, will window automatically convert to GPT during the install process? [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Apr 2019 12:13 PM PDT Hi there! This is my first post on reddit btw ;) As the title say - I have (my gf have) a really strange Asus laptop. I'm not a newbie in Windows stuff, but this one is way to much for me. First of all - this laptop is really slow. But not just slow. It's literally SLOW. This is not a low-end trash laptop (spec below), but it's dying from things like... using paint, notepad and also from doing nothing. Second thing - more annoying, still don't know why it's doing it - this laptop is waking itself up. No, it's not from Windows Update on 1-3am. This laptop is waking up in random moments. There are no devices which can wake this damn machine, and CMD command (lastwake something...) shows that it wakes by "Power Button". And what is even weirder - the sounds it's making. It sounds like fan is going to the top speed in 3-4 seconds and suddenly stops, like if you put a stick in it . Then it starts again. In most cases laptop does that from 5 to 15 times and stops for some time, but it can be tricky. Also - this weird noise is happening also when laptop is on (lid is open) and the screen goes black. I've tried disabling windows update, wake-up ability from devices (console said there is nothing that can wake the laptop), and also I've set that you need to push power-button to wake it up (not just open the lid). There was three clean installation of windows 10 (different versions). Please help me, coz it's making me crazy. Specs: Model: ASUS X555LJ CPU: i5-5200U 2,20GHz RAM: 4GB (+ 10gb virtual ram - don't know the english word) Graphics: Intel 5500 + NVidia 920M Drive: HDD 500GB Windows 10 Pro 1803 I can provide more info about this creature of the devil. Posted: 12 Apr 2019 12:47 PM PDT Feel free to share any pertinent insights, beyond what I may view at the Windows Dev Center. Thanks! The exact message I see at startup is:
A symptom which nearly always occurs at the same time is that the Windows 7 Themes service—despite having started normally according to SERVICES.MSC—must be manually reset or it won't do anything. An internet search shows that this problem has been plaguing people for almost the whole product life of Windows 7. Including the related symptom concerning Themes. Typically after a Windows Update; which is exactly what looks to have triggered it in my case, this week, too. Online I've found a dozen solutions to this problem, each of which has been claimed to have been both successful and unsuccessful (I've already tried the easiest few myself, to no avail). Due to all the discrepancy, I'm considering not going any further to tackle it, at this time. Now I'd just like to learn everything I can about what the System Event Notification Service is, so I understand what's at stake. And like I said above: perhaps discover new insights. Posted: 12 Apr 2019 06:02 AM PDT Hi, Is it possible to have my work folder at my job located on the servers S: drive be automatically backed up to my documents? Or vice versa, I work from my documents, and it backs up on the server? Long story short, I don't like navigating around the 101 folders on this new jobs disgustingly disorganized server. I try to keep my desktop, downloads, and documents all free of clutter so I know where everything is. [link] [comments]

Windows 10 - 100% CPU and Disk Usage after updating. Posted: 12 Apr 2019 01:51 AM PDT After updating my PC to version: Feature update to Windows 10, version 1809 amd64 2019-04 As soon as I restarted my computer so the update could start, my computer started getting pretty noisy. I figured that this was part of the update so I didn't think anything about it. But once the update finished and brought me back to the section where you put your password in, I went into my computer and instanted notice that the CPU was going off and on 100% usage and the disc usage is almost always near 100%, the computer still being very noisy. Please help, I tried looking online and can't find anyone facing this problem! [link] [comments] |
