Posted: 28 Mar 2019 09:18 PM PDT Is there a noticeable difference in amoled vs IPS in daily usage? Is amoled burn in still a thing nowadays? My main usage is reddit (Joey for reddit), YouTube, FB, waze, Spotify I'm torn between poco f1, rn7 pro and Samsung a50. Rn7p because it has smaller notch than poco. Poco f1 because of its speed and will still be speedy in 2-3 years. Samsung a50 because of its thin bezel and amoled screen. [link] [comments]
Mi 9 in the UK, first impressions Posted: 28 Mar 2019 05:58 AM PDT After about a week of checking various sites like Amazon Spain/Italy, E Global Central, Ali Express to get the Mi 9 (6/128) in the UK, I eventually decided to purchase it via ebay from a seller I found listed in this sub. At GBP 449, it appeared a little more expensive than some other options, but the retailer is fully VAT registered in the UK so for me (running a business) it means that I can get a tax refund which is often not possible with offshore retailers due to missing paperwork (or lack of actually paying taxes). The phone arrived as promised on time (ordered Saturday arrived Tuesday) and in original packaging, due to replace my old Max 2 so an upgrade in every sense other than the size. I'm not an expert but there is very little I dislike about this phone after 2 days. So I'll try to cover some of the common downsides I've seen in other reviews. Packaging / Contents The one downside for this Ebay sale is that the phone comes with the European 2 round pin charger and not the 3 pin one common here in the UK. It's not a huge issue for me but still worth noting, that you'll need to get another adaptor, especially if you don't have a fast charging one yet. Charging / Battery I've had a weird effect with my old phone where I could charge an external 10Ah battery via my laptop, but I could not actually charge the phone directly (so left the battery to charge in the morning and then charged the phone via the battery). On the Max 2 that was almost no issue because I could run it 48 hours of active use without needing to recharge but on the Mi 9 I have the same issue and after a day of work it goes from fully charged when getting my train in the morning to 40% by the time I leave work which I'm unhappy with as I have my travel passes on the phone. Alongside my phone I bought a Belkien wireless charger to avoid this being an issue. This charger works fine and fast, however, the phone sometimes thinks it's not charging and a dialog pops up to readjust it's positioning. I've tried several ways to do so but the message keeps coming up and it keeps charging. I find this a little annoying but could not find a way to turn it off in the settings. I've left it without charging overnight, stopping the charge at 6:30 pm with some use up to 10pm, including the CPU benchmark. I then left the phone without charging it to 6 am. The battery sat at 30% in the morning which I thought is not great, but then I've been spoiled by the size of my last phone. I tend to have chargers and a spare battery pack wherever I go so personally I don't mind. Photo Quality The Quality of the pictures taken is stunning compared to my Max 2 and whilst I I've not compared them like for like to other flagship phones, I've not had a single picture where I felt it would have been better elsewhere. I was a little surprised that the AI mode identifies eg. a pet, but is unable to actually focus correctly. Tapping the actual object on screen however always produced crisp images with the colour appearing almost a little too good but it may be that I'm just not used to the quality of the screen. Photos taken at night are surprisingly good. I cannot compare with other phones yet, but I'm again completely happy with the quality of the images. Call Quality and Reception I've got some bad spots for Wifi at home where my old phone would drop off on a Whatsapp call and reconnect. I managed to pass through them with the phone with no issues. However, I used to just walk about within my home with my bluetooth headset, leaving the phone at my desk to avoid this in the past and that's not possible without taking the phone as I seem to lose Bluetooth connection when I'm in the furthest away room. Geekbench 4 / Performance I've run the CPU test and the results are pretty impressive.
It appears to be ahead of most other flagship devices.
Compared to my previous phones I notice a real difference in performance, but that's no surprise given it was a rather low or medium level device. Build Quality / Other features I'm pretty happy withe the build quality of the phone, though the back cover feels a little feeble compared to the cover of the Max 2, but on looks ... it's stunning from either side. I've seen reviews about the buttons being a little on the cheap side, but I've not had problems on the Max2 and the design seems the same with the finish a little neater. I'm sold on the tiny notch as a convenience, but the single camera lacks security for logging in, which I don't want to risk. The front facing fingerprint scanner works better than the rear one of the Max 2. The phone also suffers from the same problems as the Max 2: If you cover the speaker, which is easy to do by accident when holding the phone in landscape mode, the sound is almost completely blocked. My only real gripe is with the utterly unnecessary extra button for the Google Assistant. I tend to have the phone playing video's when I'm cooking and I cannot adjust the volume without picking it up, because pushing it down triggers the assistant. Xiaomi, if you are listening, please resolve this by allowing this useless button to be turned off or coded to do a different action. I'd also like to differentiate a short/long/double-click so I could turn the long click off (which is what effectively happens when I adjust the volume) but have useful shortcuts eg to call my spouse or open my emails. Summary There are minor issues, some I hope can be resolved by software updates. All in all it's a great package and feels on a par with phones that cost an extra GBP 300-500. I honestly cannot help feeling like I've conned someone. This much phone for this little money seems a very sweet deal. [link] [comments]
Navigation bar on Xiaomi Mi A2 Posted: 28 Mar 2019 09:59 PM PDT I see in videos that the back button is on the left side and that the recents button is on thhe right side. Can these two be switched within the settings menu or is it requirement to root or use 3rd party app? [link] [comments]
Are there any good Xiaomi laptops? Posted: 28 Mar 2019 12:24 PM PDT I am currently searching for a new laptop for university. I don't really know what to choose from (or I really suck at choosing a new laptop) [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Mar 2019 03:22 PM PDT Just how much is the 4gb worth it? I currently use a Note 4x 3/32 and storage has never been an issue. It, unfortunately, has taken a couple of knocks and needs replacing but I want as cheap as possible. Now, I can get the Note 7 3/32 for £160 from Amazon Italy. it's about £15 more expensive for the 3/32 or the same price as the 4/64 buying from AliEx but has the benefits of being sold by Amazon and shipping from the EU. (gotta have B20) I dont play many big games (occasional indie platform/puzzle), mainly just web, email, whatsapp, spotify, satnav etc. And of course will be installing AOSP as soon as it becomes available. Thoughts? [link] [comments]
Mi 9 SE Global not announced at Turkey or Benelux events Posted: 28 Mar 2019 08:38 AM PDT There was a lot of speculation that the Mi 9 SE Global would be announced at either of these events but it wasn't. What do we reckon that means for a global release? When do we think will the phone be officially confirmed? [link] [comments]

Bezelless phones are overrated. Posted: 28 Mar 2019 12:10 AM PDT I own a Mix 3. Great phone! But the fact that it is bezelless really doesn't matter. No video on YouTube is every going to use up the entire screen anyway. The phone is great but if you're deciding between this and another phone that has a notch, remember that the notch isn't really a big deal at all. [link] [comments]
Xiaomi Mi9 CN vs Global for ATT in USA Posted: 28 Mar 2019 08:13 PM PDT It would appear that the CN version of the Xiaomi Mi 9 has more compatible bands with ATT than the Global edition due it the CN edition supporting B17. If i bought the CN edition, would I be able to flash a new rom on it relatively quickly or no? Thanks! [link] [comments]

Mi Band 3 Duplicate Notifications Posted: 28 Mar 2019 07:25 PM PDT I am currently getting duplicate notifications from emails and messages. One thing that I have noticed is that if I do not swipe the notification off my phone it will keep coming up on my band. Has one found a solution to this? [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Mar 2019 11:44 AM PDT I remember the note 5 had a rather dull and unsaturated display. I'm gonna be buying the note 7 non pro. If anyone has it, how is the display quality? *Edit meant to say other not older [link] [comments]
Replacing my ageing Pixel 1: Will the Redmi Note 7's camera disappoint me? Posted: 28 Mar 2019 09:22 AM PDT I love my Pixel 1 for the image quality I get, but the battery life is starting to fall apart (2-3h SOT) and I'm finding the screen to be a tad small. I'm looking for a budget replacement and the Redmi Note 7 got my attention, but I'm not sure how the camera (with Gcam) fairs in comparison to the Pixel 1's camera. Or am I better off waiting for the Mi A3? [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Mar 2019 04:02 PM PDT Hey, Having a weird issue with a custom ROM I'm trying to install. I've got a Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 and I'm trying to load an unofficial version of Pixel Experience. It hasn't been a totally smooth ride, as I need to pre-load a Xiaomi ROM before I can load PE and it took some trial and error, but I got there. So far, everything is smooth and working as expected, EXCEPT the mobile data thinks I'm roaming. I'm not, I'm in Austria with my Austrian SIM. On the mobile internet icon I have the familiar 'r' logo next to the bars, and I cannot get internet unless I tick 'allow roaming'. If I go to ##4636## and go to phone information, sure enough it says I'm roaming there too. The weird part is, not only do I not have this issue on the stock ROM, I don't have the issue with the Xiaomi ROM I had to pre-load before PE. Furthermore, using the same pre-ROM, I get this issue with other custom ROMs loaded on-top (AOSP and ArrowOS). It's clear this is either an issue with the base ROM I'm using, or some configuration issue once I load the intended custom ROM on top of the base ROM. To make things harder, I'm limited in what base ROM I can use as this process is pretty picky, and one wrong move and I get a boot-loop and have to start again. Any idea on what this could be, or if anyone has experienced this before? Better yet, any solution would be great! Thanks [link] [comments]
Da Fang camera doesn't work anymore Posted: 28 Mar 2019 03:50 PM PDT I reinstall the Mi Home app and added the camera and it detects the camera fine but when I click on the camera from Mi home screen it doesn't connect to the camera. all this happened after updated the app. I tried old version and same thing. Maybe now they are blocking off all the non chinese IP address? [link] [comments]
April Security Patch via a recent update on Tulip ? Posted: 28 Mar 2019 09:37 AM PDT So i received this update a few days back and my mind is blown by the fact that going into the About Phone Section on MIUI Settings I see the April Security Patch. I searched the Android Security Bulletin to see if Google actually released April Security Patch but to no avail. So my question is whether this is actually the security patch or is it being faked by MIUI Devs as we have seen in the past ?About Phone Section of Tulip with April Security Patch [link] [comments]
Are Xiaomi phones full of bloatware? Posted: 28 Mar 2019 12:48 AM PDT I'm considering a Xiaomi Mi A8 lite as my next phone and I was wondering if it has any Chinese bloatware (apps, ads in the menu etc)? I wouldn't mind installing a custom firmware like Lineage, but I would prefer to stick to the original one, at least for a while. [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Mar 2019 09:30 AM PDT Does anyone know the actual bands on the global version of the Note 7? I've checked different websites, some of them list B4(1700/2100 AWS) and some of them don't. I'm in Canada on Koodo and that's the band they use for LTE. [link] [comments]
An issue with Redmi note 7 and "debug option"? Posted: 28 Mar 2019 03:18 PM PDT Hi there, i will try to make it short and easy. I have a game called Fate Grand Order that's very picky when a smartphone is rooted, hacked or with the "debug option" active. A week ago i purchased the new Redmi Note 7, updated it and installed the game and no problem at all. Then i activated the USB debug for move some music on the smartphone via pc and no problem at all. BUT! After deactivated the option i started the game again but no more working, for some weird reason the game still keep telling me that the Debug Option is active but i checked many times and "a first sight" it's inactive. I activated and deactivated it many times and verified it by connecting the smartphone to the pc but still the game keep not running. Any suggestion for totally hide the debug option? It's possible to go back to an older MIUI version? The actual one is 10.2.3.0 PFGEUXM global [link] [comments]

Mi 9 SE global version is for sale? Posted: 28 Mar 2019 05:41 AM PDT I've been waiting for the release of Mi 9 SE and I heard rumors that it is already for sale. Is the global version up for sale? And if it is, where to buy it (safely)? I'm from Portugal btw. [link] [comments] |
