Shoutout to a game I've been enjoying lately: SFD

    Posted: 28 Mar 2019 02:22 PM PDT

It's a tactics turn-based dungeon crawler. Paid, no IAP, no ads.

It has a demo here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.icefill.sfd_demo.android

    Full game here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.icefill.sfd.android

I've been playing it periodically for the past several weeks, have beaten it a few times on the normal difficulty. The basic premise is that you have a main character that hires other characters to progress through an eight floor dungeon. Every floor has a bit over a dozen rooms with combats, shops, etc, punctuated by a boss encounter before you can proceed to the next floor. Each character has a class, level, and some equipment. Each class comes with several different abilities, which are partially randomized from a pool of possible abilities. Equipment can also sometimes grant abilities, as can spell scrolls and trainers found in the dungeon. Combat is turn-based, where each character gets two actions before your turn ends and the enemies act. Movement and positioning is grid-based, and good positioning is crucial for success. Most rooms have some hazards and terrain features that you can utilize to your advantage, or have utilized against you if you're not careful. It's entertaining to try different class combinations even after having beaten the game a few times.

I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good old video game experience without the common trappings of mobile gaming. Scratches a Dungeons and Dragons combat-like itch for me.

[Request] Turn based Rpg with aesthetic gear progression

    Posted: 28 Mar 2019 06:11 PM PDT

I am looking for a game somewhat akin to Dragonfable. I am really needing a game where I can swag fashion in a more typical classical rpg.

A few games I have found with such fashion options don't allow me to enjoy my work in actual gameplay.

[Request] Looking for a turn based monster collecting rpg similar to Dragon Island Blue

    Posted: 28 Mar 2019 09:15 PM PDT

Title says it all really. Dragon Island Blue is probably my favorite game to play on mobile. Never came to playstore and the games made by the same company are completely different. Also if this is too difficult a request or no one is familiar with Dragon Island Blue just recommend your favorite games on the playstore :) Please and thank you for all help.

    [Request]Non-Hero/Character Gacha

    Posted: 28 Mar 2019 09:36 PM PDT

I'm looking for a gacha game but not Character Collecting. Maybe a game where your roll for gear or maybe skills/summons. Maybe something with a custom character. I love gacha, but I need my own character to control that represents me in that world.

Mobile game red flags and rules of thumb

    Posted: 28 Mar 2019 08:30 PM PDT

I've got some red flags I keep in mind to help me steer away from the predatory practices common in the mobile space, such as:

    • Micro-transactions in the double digits or higher
    • Consumables
    • Options to take away artificial pain points
    • Habits start forming as I play to constantly have to come back latter for just a little gameplay where each time is less effective than the last

I also steer away from games that are either ports of games, or even original mobile games with controls that were not created from the ground up for touch screens. It frustrates me, since the just end as games I'd rather play on a device that was made for these games. I'm really on the lookout for innovation in touch screen controls. I want to play games that really work to the strengths of touch screen devices, while still having solid single player game design.

I've been lurking on the sub for a while. On the lookout for worthwhile games. This got me wondering are the things that everyone else in this community looks out for when they look for mobile games? What types of rules of thumb, red flags, etcetera do you have?

Slow RTS Games (Subterfuge, Neptune's Pride, Hades Star, etc.)

    Posted: 28 Mar 2019 10:27 AM PDT

In my experience, games like Subterfuge are much less P2W than games like Game of War or Clash of Clans. I used to play a game like the latter with my friends a long time ago, but we dropped it because we couldn't beat P2W. I'm looking to get the game back together. Are Subterfuge, Neptune's Pride or Hades Star still pretty active (subreddits/forums show they're dying), or are there new games like these with less P2W?
