Graphic Design Laptop, $800-$2,000 US. Posted: 01 Mar 2019 12:40 PM PST
My current computer is a 2015 Dell XPS 15, and I'm dissatisfied with my experience. Unless Dell has released a truly exceptional computer recently, I'm more interested in other companies. I have been looking at the Lenovo ThinkPad P52, but it's pricey and I'm seeing mixed reviews, so I thought I'd ask around. The 32GB RAM and 2+ TB hard drives are tempting, though. Any feedback you guys could give would be great! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Mar 2019 03:11 AM PST I'm 17M, uni student, looking for a laptop to watch shows, listen to music, do research and study. I don't want an apple computer, and I'm not a gamer either. Budget ~700€ Any recommendations? [link] [comments] |

Need help in picking out a good quality laptop for college and everyday use. Posted: 02 Mar 2019 02:10 AM PST Total budget and country of purchase:** 400usd or less (U.S.A), r* Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. good battery life preferable; the other two will be a plus, * How important is weight and thinness to you? 6/10 lightweight preferred for on the go, * Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Chrome or Windows. Chrome preferred just because I'm used to android, * Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15" or less, * Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Not really as my phone is capable. Only game I might play is Zuma, * If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? refer to previous question, * Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? definitely reliable build quality and DVD player will be icing on cake but not required. The rest I can do without, * Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I'm looking for a quality every day college student laptop(online classes), nice build and long battery life. I watch movies online a lot too. I'm not tech savvy but I'll appreciate a large storage for files mostly school work, movies and music. Res: 1920x1080, 2TB HDD or any SSD, 64GB (all these numbers are from research and what I would prefer, but for my budget I can compromise). Links for purchasing are welcome. [link] [comments] |

Macbook air(2018) vs HP Envy 13 (non-mx150) Posted: 02 Mar 2019 01:01 AM PST So I'm buying my first laptop and it's going to be primarily for programming so can someone help me out here? I'm leaning towards the macbook because of its software but I know it's keyboard which I'll be using a lot seems to be shit and the envy also seems to be much more powerful because of its quad core U processor vs dual core Y processor.is mac os worth the downgrade in specs. Also, money is none issue between these two laptops [link] [comments] |
On the fence on whether or not to buy the fx505,i7 8th gen,gtx 1060(6gb) Posted: 02 Mar 2019 12:41 AM PST I'm going to be using it for college work,gaming(twitcher3,apex,etc),light video editing, dual boot, auto cad So I'm on the fence as to whether or not buy this one asap (plus I'm looking forward for using it for the next 5-6 years hence the specs) I read that the thermal issues with fx504 had been fixed in fx505 with dual cooling tech and a few other improvements such as thinner bezels If someone owns this model please suggest on whether or not it's a good model [link] [comments] |
Need a laptop for CAD/School/Everyday uses Posted: 01 Mar 2019 04:48 PM PST Total budget and country of purchase: Canada, from 0-1600 CAD, Flexible up to 1800 CAD Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. I don't need a 2 in 1 computer. I also don't need a good battery life because I am 3/4 of the time plugged on the wall. The money goes toward a power laptop for CAD/gaming. How important is weight and thinness to you? Weight and thinness aren't really important but I will be carrying this laptop around 4-5 days to school, so the less heavy the better. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows 10 Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. For CAD, I'm using CREO, NX and solidworks and some thermal/structural analysis tools, like FEMAP. I will also be programming in MATLAB, python and C++ (But I think almost all computers can). I'm a casual gamer. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I mainly play Kerbal Space Program, Age of Empire 2 and games like Portal, Subnautica, Skyrim etc. I wish to play smoothly but I dont need to have the best graphics on the market. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Good keyboard and resistant to transportation. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I will use it for 30% CAD, 20% Gaming, 40% Basic stuff like watching movies, youtube, reddit, school, etc. and 10% programming. I've thought of Lenovo think pads, but I don't know if it's a good choice. I don't know a lot about computers so I need the help of experts. [link] [comments] |
A Laptop for IT work/Coding/Data applications Posted: 01 Mar 2019 04:38 PM PST * **Total budget and country of purchase:** $1000 to $2000, Country is U.S.A. * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.** Prefer good battery and best specs first. * **How important is weight and thinness to you?** Not too important. * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** Windows and Linux * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** 15.6 to 17. * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? Laptop for photo editing and video streaming(>$1,000) Posted: 01 Mar 2019 10:58 PM PST Total budget and country of purchase: 0-$1,000 USD Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Best for the money How important is weight and thinness to you? I don't want something that's super heavy but the thinness doesn't matter to me. I'd prefer it to not be huge Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. No preference Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Above 12 inches Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Photoshop, Sony Vegas, and basic stuff like Microsoft Word If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I probably won't be using it for games and if I do game on it the games won't be games that require high specs I likely won't be gaming on it and if I do then I'll be playing games that are light in terms of performance Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Reliable build quality is a must. With how much I'm paying I'd like the thing to last at least 3-4 years Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I want a laptop that's very good at multitasking and also something that has a great screen because a lot of the time I will be watching videos and movies on it. Also the nice picture quality would be good for the little photoshop work and video editing I will be doing. I'd also like something that's a bit future proof because I'd like to have this laptop for 3-5 years and not want the laptop to feel extremely outdated a year from now. [link] [comments] |
Which of these two laptops is 'better?' Buying from Japan. Posted: 01 Mar 2019 10:56 PM PST
https://kakaku.com/item/K0001042169/spec/ ~$625 USD
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075FLBJV7/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_3?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 $670 USD with shipping to Japan. As far as I can tell the biggest difference is that the Asus has a SSD and regular HD while the Acer has a bigger SSD. Also I believe the Asus is slightly slimmer. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Mar 2019 10:41 PM PST Hello all, I've been using a chromebook + desktop setup for the past couple of years throughout undergrad. It's worked well, but I really need to jump on the 2 in 1 train. My desires for a laptop are: -1080p minimum IPS screen -16 gb ram (see below) -2 in 1 form factor -Stylus support -~8 hour battery life -14 inch screen preferred, but I'm open to other suggestions -USB-C support -Preferred 512 gb storage, but could go less As I'm having to pay for school, this has to be as cheap as possible. I will be using this to do video and photo editing when I am on the go and am not able to remote into my desktop computer. Additionally, as I said, I am going to be using this for school and thus need a stylus support. My big challenge is that I am used to 32gb of ram on my desktop, and feel that anything under 16 (esp soldered) is not going to be worth it in a laptop. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. TN screen with 95% NTSC or IPS screen with 60-70% NTSC? Posted: 01 Mar 2019 08:33 PM PST I need/want color accuracy for creative work, but it's hard to find in a gaming laptop in my price range. Everyone tells me IPS panels have way better image quality & a higher range of colors than TN panels; is this true even when it's a high color accuracy, FHD TN screen being compared to one of similar resolution and lower color accuracy? Rather, is it gonna be worth the extra few hundred bucks it adds to a price tag? PS — I am not a computer person and I understand very little of what I'm repeating. [link] [comments] |
Tactile Keyboard/moderate gaming Laptop on the used market (400-500$) US Posted: 01 Mar 2019 08:31 PM PST I am an author and require a great tactile keyboard on a laptop. I really like mechanical keyboards and am looking for something like the acer nitro series, but am hoping to purchase on the used market only. The cheaper the better. -Id love to be able to run borderlands 2 on max at 1920x. Total budget and country of purchase: -$500usd used Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? -I do not require any specific form factor, as long as I can get a solid 4 hours or so of battery life using text processing for writing such as apache or word. How important is weight and thinness to you? -It isn't. I ran with an alienware m11x and enjoy the look and feel of the Nitro series when I see it at stores. so big and thicker frames are fine. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, -Windows. However, I do not need an SSD or a copy of windows, I have my own for both. Do you have a preferred screen size? -only 15 or 14 inch models Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. -Photoshop, Sony Vegas. Preferred GPU capable of running borderlands 2 on 1920x res (which isnt too hard to run by todays standards) If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? -i vsync 60hz so I dont care for absurdly high fps. Handling Borderlands 2 at 60fps would be amazing if possible. But, Im just fine so long as it never dips below 30fps Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad) -Very tactile keyboard. As an author, I want as close to a mechanical keyboard feel as possible. I dislike the flat key experience. Nothing else is required. I dont need certain ports or extras. Are the Acer Nitro's the best option for me? [link] [comments] |

I'm an android developer, so I create AVDs (virtual devices) in which I allocate cores to, so I need AT LEAST a quad core. Additionally, I'd like for it to be at the very least upgradeable to 16 GB (dual dimm pref) DDR4. Why I'm looking for suggestions is because most laptops that I see include one thing that I don't really need - a high end GPU. I don't need an RTX nor a GTX 1050. I just need a laptop that's atleast quadcore and can be upgradeable to 16GB. edit: format [link] [comments] |

Going to sell it and purchase the best Windows laptop you guys recommend!! Appreciate all the suggestions to come :)
