Is it worth waiting for the release of the 9th gen i7-9750H CPU on laptops? Posted: 30 Mar 2019 07:27 AM PDT Hi, I am recently looking for a replacement to my i7-4720hq+960m gaming laptop and came into a conclusion where the Lenovo Y740 i7 8750h+ RTX2060 fits most of my requirements , however since the 9th gen i7 is going to be announced soon on 21 April, is it worth waiting for the 3MB increase(From 9->12MB) in cache and slightly better clock boost as we are only 3 weeks away from the announcement? or the update likely won't affect the performance that much as the new CPU remains as a 6core 12 threads CPU? (edit: Of course in most cases the newer the hardwares the better it will be , but im slightly worried about the increase of clock speed in the new 9th gen CPU will cause the laptop to thermal throttle) [link] [comments]
Torn between razer blade 15(2018) and the MSI gs65 stealth Posted: 30 Mar 2019 01:21 PM PDT Hey guys, just come on here for a quick question as I would like some inputs quickly. There is a sale I'm looking at for good prices for both products in title, blade for 150 more than gs65 but I don't think that will make much difference as I have more room cuz of budget. But would like to know what people personally pick instead of just watching online reviews. The versions are the blade has the 128ssd and 1tb hard drive with the 1060 max q while the gs65 only has a 256 GB SSD and a 1060. I don't care as much about performance but more functionality. Thanks for the input guys! [link] [comments]
How can you tell if an SSD is fake? Posted: 30 Mar 2019 12:44 PM PDT I have found a few sellers on eBay selling top of the line SSDs like the samsung 970 EVO or PRO for cheap ($80-$100). I'm on a tight budget, so I'm honestly willing to give it a shot, but is there any way I can tell whether it's real or not once I receive it? [link] [comments]

Upgrading an old netbook's CPU and RAM. Posted: 30 Mar 2019 11:32 AM PDT I have a Compaq M2000 netbook which I found for cheap. I have Windows 2000 SP4 on it and with some mods it's good. I have MBytes, and it can play 720p YouTube with VLC. It runs an Intel Celeron M, at 1.3GHz and 1GB of DDR RAM For the CPU, I found that these models should work for an upgrade:
But I can't seem to find them on eBay. They aren't 400MHz when I try to search "Intel Pentium M 400MHz". I get different models then the ones that claim to be supported. These have no model number, but are 400MHz: As for RAM, on Wikipedia it says 1GB is the max RAM, there's no citation or source. I believe I have the owners manual, I'll take a look. It doesn't say if it supports DDR2 RAM. [link] [comments]

what is a good, powerful laptop for school? Posted: 30 Mar 2019 01:08 PM PDT I'm about to start high-school and I need a laptop. I have a budget of around 2000 Canadian dollars and I'm looking for a laptop that is powerful (as in gtx 1060 or higher powerful for gaming at home), has good battery life (so I can use it in school), and is quite thin. I'm thinking of getting the razer blade 15 with the 60hz gtx 1060. I have been told that a 144hz display is better. I cannot find a 144hz gtx 1060 on the Canadian razer website although I did find it on Razer US. (its kind of complicated. basically the 144hz 1060 is available on the razer blade 15 2018 and not on the razer blade 15) I'm open to all suggestions. thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
What’s a good gaming laptop for around 800? Posted: 30 Mar 2019 10:56 AM PDT I don't want to run anything crazy, maybe cs:go fortnite and and apex legends, and I don't need to do anything else on it that's taxing [link] [comments]

So Something like a surface book (something that can be used as a graphics tablet) [link] [comments]

Just bought and MSI GS65 Stealth with a GTX 1060 AMA Posted: 29 Mar 2019 05:39 PM PDT The online Microsoft store has a deal and I'm not sure how long it'll last, so I figured I could answer any questions to any one interested in the deal. [link] [comments]

Laptop brand Series to look into? Posted: 30 Mar 2019 09:16 AM PDT Hey, So I've been stuck with the ultra reliable (/s) flex 3 from Lenovo. I can't stand it anymore. I've been checking out a few resources such as this sub/wiki/etc. and seems like business tier is the way to go. I've wanted to have more input on what else to look for that's "business tier"? Right now I'm considering only the think pad 489, surface notebooks and the macbook air? All I want is something to last long, decent specs, and under 1k [link] [comments]
Need advice for ThinkPad T series and X series Posted: 30 Mar 2019 09:04 AM PDT Hi, I am a student who double major in Math and CS. I plan to update my laptop this summer for a back-end internship. Right now I am looking forward to get a Thinkpad. I do a lot research on the T series 470, 480 ,480s and X series. Why I want to switch to a Thinkpad? Because it is my dream to have a IBM laptop when I was young :) To sum up and save you guys time, I slightly prefer the X1 carbon but I was wondering if I should get a refurbished one or I should go get a new one. Here are what I am thinking:
My usage for Thinkpad:

Laptop for professional cAD work. Posted: 30 Mar 2019 08:55 AM PDT Hi all, I'm looking at buying a new laptop specifically for CAD work. My job requires me to move around a few times a year while also working from home occasionally. I'm looking for a good laptop that will support a single 4k monitor (it would be nice to have my laptop screen work as a split screen with my monitor as well). Price isn't that much of an issue, but I'd ideally like to keep it under $3000. Are there any laptops I should consider buying for these specifications, or am I better to wait for something coming out in the future? Overall heres what I'm looking for: <$3000 Able to use a 4k monitor + splitscreen with laptop Built well Thanks! [link] [comments]
Ex-PC enthusiast who can no longer use a PC due to injury. Need help with buying my first laptop. Posted: 30 Mar 2019 02:26 AM PDT So I'm in my 30s. Since i was 15 I've been an avid PC gamer, however a year ago I suffered an injury which has left me with some nerve damage in my right arm. Sitting with my arms outstretched for more than 10 minutes causes weakness and pain, which rules PC gaming out now. I've switched to console gaming however I still would like something to browse/watch NBA games and Netflix/torrent/maybe play some indie games on while sitting on the couch so I figured I should look into a laptop. A friend of mine works at a large retailer here in Australia (I guess you could consider them to be Australia's Best Buy) and can get me a very good price on anything they stock. I was looking at this model - https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/laptops/dell/dell-inspiron-14-5000-14-2-in-1-touchscreen-laptop-i5/336863/. It's within my price range and the ability to flip it into a tablet or media mode would be handy as a lot of the time I'll be using it for that. It has a very small hard drive but I am planning on buying a small NAS for storage space. Just wondering if that's good? I basically just want good value for money on something in that price range and don't want to buy a dud. I looked around and couldn't see anywhere else to ask for a recommendation but am happy to delete this if I'm breaking the rules with this post. Would be really appreciative of any advice you can offer. [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Mar 2019 09:30 PM PDT My laptop specs: https://www.gigabyte.com/us/Laptop/AERO-14--GTX-1060#sp My old SSD died apparently as my laptop kept looping the Aptio Utility BIOS and did not detect my old SSD so I replaced it with this new SSD that is NVMe : https://www.amazon.com/Patriot-Scorch-1700MB-Transfer-Speeds/dp/B0794ZTMMW I used a samsung 32GB USB flash drive to load the Windows 10 image onto and then booted up my laptop with the new SSD and this USB installed. It installs Windows and brings me into the computer where I browse the internet and do whatever. However, once I restart the computer/turn it off then back on, it automatically starts the Startup Repair Utility. From this point, its either I do a clean install of windows which then allows me to get into the computer again (but its wiped clean) or if I choose "continue to windows 10", it'll bring me back to this Startup Repair. Basically, i'm stuck in Start-up repair until I decide to delete all my files. What do I do in this situation? [link] [comments] |
