Anyway to shorten the notification lifespan? Posted: 03 Mar 2019 08:58 PM PST I'm aware that you can increase the notification time, but what about shorten? I only need to see my notification for about two seconds before I want it to get out of the way. Is there a registry entry or something that I can change to make it shorter? [link] [comments]
Downloading Horizon 4 Stuck at "Starting Download" Indefinitely Posted: 03 Mar 2019 06:13 PM PST Hi all. I'm trying to download Horizon 4 via Game Pass from the Microsoft Store, but every time I try, it's stuck at "Starting Download" until I reset the store. These are the things I've tried: In-Place Windows Upgrade to fix my install WSReset.exe Terminating and Resetting Microsoft Store app Re-registering Windows Store through Powershell sfc /scannow (No problems detected) Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth (No problems detected) Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth (No problems detected) Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth (No problems detected) Stopping Windows Update service Stopping wuauserv and BITS and clearing SoftwareDistribution Resetting network settings Running Tweaking.com's Windows Repair tool Windows Store troubleshooter (No problems detected) Performing a Clean Boot Logging out of and into MS Account And yes, no updates are currently available for my PC. Can anyone help me out? [link] [comments]
Is using metadata tags for file organization a good idea? Posted: 03 Mar 2019 12:16 PM PST I am wading through two decades of loosely organized photos (by year, event, location) but want to make it into a searchable format (e.g. find image containing dog AND kid). The file system already has TL;DR Started tagging shit ton of photos using File Explorer, to make them searchable, am I wasting my time? Do File Explorer tags work cross platform? Edit - spelling Edit 2 - and then to correct my correction [link] [comments]

Microsoft is its own worst enemy Posted: 03 Mar 2019 11:21 AM PST They seem to be determined to drive themselves out of consumer market. They come up with great ideas, slowly suffocate them via years of neglect, then kill them off leaving customers hanging. (Hello to you, Windows Mobile, which at its peak was lightyears ahead of anything else and only needed a decent facelift to stay relevant). I am very much into Apple ecosystem for my mobile devices. Recently I decided to get a new personal laptop and, after almost buying a MacBook Pro, decided to give a Windows 2-in-1 device a chance, largely because of compatibility issues with some programs I use at work. Well, I freaking love it. It's a much better "tablet on steroids" than I expected it to be, and the ability to just run native Windows software without stupid limitations is great. So far, it hasn't developed any dreaded slowdowns, and it flies. Great. But... there's no real mobile ecosystem. I would love to get MS apps and services for a seamless integration between my phone and my lap-blet but it's nowhere near Apple's system.
I could go on and on and on... I would seriously consider just getting a Windows phone next time, but MS decided to pull out of that market. So, no native mobile devices, and not providing decent apps for other systems... as I said, MS is its own worst enemy. Here's a user who would love to fully change to their ecosystem yet there's none to speak of. I am seriously starting to reconsider my reliance on Onenote as they may end up killing it as well... nLite crashes when "Preparing..." after clicking on "Make ISO" Posted: 03 Mar 2019 04:51 AM PST I wanted to make a modification of Windows Longhorn build 3718, so I modified some stuff via resource Hacker and tried to make an .iso with nLite. Problem is, almost every single time I click "Make ISO" and select the location in which I want to save the .iso, it just crashes! I've tried setting various compatibility settings, running as administrator, reinstalling nLite, redownloading the Windows Longhorn build 3718 .iso, but nothing works! It's only gotten to work about twice, but that's it. Can someone please help me? I'm starting to get really angry because of this. [link] [comments]

Windows boot manager on wrong drive Posted: 03 Mar 2019 11:56 AM PST I built my own system a few months back with three drives. I recently came to the need to dual boot linux on my system but Ubuntu will not recognize windows as being present. I did some digging. The boot manager is on my E:\ drive, not C:\ . Posted: 03 Mar 2019 03:55 AM PST So, I think I did something really stupid, I hope you guys can help me. I had most of my programs, games, in seperate folders on my desktop. Yesterday I decided to put them all individually on my desktop, so I could acces them easier, sacrificing aestethics for utility. I then checked my recycle bin and deleted all of the files, and after that I went to the file explorer and checked all my folders just to organize my files. In the folder documents I found a lonely file, and I hadn't put it there- I deleted it. After that I permanently deleted it from the recycle bin as well, and when I went back to desktop I saw that from a few programms, the icons were missing. I panicked, and tried so many things to fix it but I could't make it work. The icons are visible everywhere, in properties, everywhere, but not on desktop. The missing icons are from Overwatch, MSI Afterburner, Origin, and Asus AURA Sync. Does anyone know how to fix this? [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Mar 2019 11:03 AM PST Hi! I'm new here on this subreddit, I've asked a lot of times on the windows support but no one was able to give me a solution. I've built my friend a PC with parts from my previous one and he's having a lot of BSOD recently. I've formatted and reinstalled windows 10 and benchmarked everything for hours and there was no issue or BSOD. But now that he has all his things there the BSOD are coming again. This is his last minidump: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ppbx9o73om4h4vn/Desktop.rar?dl=0 Any help identifying what is causing this issue is highly appreciated! Thanks everyone! :) [link] [comments]
Archive of Windows 10 Versions Posted: 02 Mar 2019 09:02 PM PST Hi all, i do have to wonder - with Windows releases now becoming disposable with new stable builds every few months (and shorter support cycles), is there someone out there archiving old builds of Windows 10 to make sure they're not lost to history? Although I'm sure Microsoft is archiving them internally. It would be kinda cool if Windows 10 sticks around for 10 years and we can go through and see how it gradually changes. The difference between v1507 and v1809 is already pretty significant. [link] [comments]
Old OpenGL-version with newest drivers Posted: 03 Mar 2019 10:52 AM PST Hey there. I'm running a GTX660 with the newest NVIDIA drivers (419.17) with an i7 920 in a system with Windows 10 64bit for testing purposes.Today I wanted to run a programm called "CasparCG" and it crashed with the information that my OpenGL version is too low. So I looked up the version that I should have with my card and drivers, which is 4.3, and the one that is actually installed, which is 1.1. I tried un- and reinstalling NVIDIAs drivers but Geeks3D still displayed "OpenGL 1.1" (screenshots down there). Is there any way to update the OpenGL version? Also, I have found similar issues on other sites but with no helpful answers. I hope someone here can help me. Here are screenshots of the Geeks3D Viewer with which I found out the OpenGL versions. Posted: 03 Mar 2019 10:49 AM PST I've been using Windows 10 on my laptop for a few years, and never installed any antivirus/security software. I've done banking, gaming, emailing, browsing etc. and never had any issues. If I do the same things on Windows 7, am I more vulnerable? Or will I be fine? Should I get some AV software just to be safe in 2019? [link] [comments]

App to see hidden files on USB disk? Posted: 03 Mar 2019 08:11 AM PST In Windows, I have the settings shown to show hidden files etc. I have a USB disk that I thought was empty, but I went to a photo shop to print some photos and I put the disk in. It still had old photos that I'd deleted in Windows. When I put the USB into my Windows laptop, I can't see those files. Is there an app for Windows 10 that will show all the files on a disk? Thanks!
