    Blocking Fortnite On My Computer

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 08:38 AM PST

Hello. My little siblings have been addicted to fortnite for the past 6 months and it's getting way out of hand now that I need to study for my upcoming SAT's. Combined they play over 8 hours daily. I want to block Fortnite on the computer. I was thinking of removing permissions from all users to Epic Games Launcher and then setting the Launcher to Hidden, but after testing with other applications it seems you can just re install the application. I either need to block the epicgames url from the browser so they can not re download Epic Games after i remove permissions and set to hidden, or find a more permanent way to block the application without it being able to be reinstalled from the website.

Thank you guys so much for the help in advance this has been a big problem that I can't seem to solve 🙏

Edit: Woah just checked this post after a couple hours thanks for all the feedback. I ended up trying to block Epic Games via the firewall but for some reason it wouldn't work. I knew i was doing it right because other apps i tried it on actually became blocked. So I messed around with all the permissions and now Epic Games doesn't even open when I click it and when I try to re download it says insufficient permissions. So basically it worked but I have no idea how to fix it in case I need to. Parents haven't found out but lets just say when they do OP might be getting a spanking ⚰️☠️

P.S. to all you guys who say talk it out and make an agreement i've obviously tried but nothing works. Might seem crazy but my parents would rather let siblings play than I study to stop them from whining

    Vertical Screen Lines in Laptop

    Posted: 03 Mar 2019 02:34 AM PST

Hi, just when I started my laptop today I saw vertical screen lines in various colors right from the windows 10 bootscreen upto desktop. The lines continued to move up and down for about 3-4 mins and then disappeared by itself and again appeared when I tried to put the system to sleep mode just to see what happens and it came back when I tried to put password on the login screen and it stayed again for sometime and now its gone. It happened a couple of times ago too and I didnt pay much attention.

    Example - https://imgur.com/wuzRbip

Now its clear and I am typing in reddit. What to do?

Laptop specs - Intel 3632QM, 8 gb ram, 4 gb nvidia 750m, 250 gb ssd samsung, win 10. I am already on the latest video and audio drivers.

What to do? I fear it will come again.

Using a Ethernet cable and still getting lag...?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 08:56 PM PST

A few days ago I posted here about using a Ethernet cable to hardwire my PS4 so there's no lag or very little...it still lags..I called my ISP and told them that it lags from about 7 PM until around 1 AM...that I tried speed test and I'm getting anywhere from between 10-30 down and 1-5 up when I'm paying for way more. They checked the boxes and said that it was during Peak hours and that's whats causing me to lag? I ask about upgrading to Fiber internet from Cable and they said that it would be the same issue. Any idea how to get around this? I get home at about seven each night and am not normally up past 1...so I'm not sure what to do? I literally only have my Iphone...tv...and game system using the internet at the same time. I wouldn't think it was router issues? Any help would be appreciated

    PC Temperature when gaming

    Posted: 03 Mar 2019 04:54 AM PST

I have little to no knowledge about my PC/specs.Can someone please take a look at this OpenHardware monitor screenshot and tell me if my computer is getting too hot when playing (or if there seems to be any other problem)?

I recently moved the case into a cabinet beneath my desk and I'm wondering whether the temperature is getting way too high, the hot air that comes out of it seems pretty crazy.

Sudden internet issue effecting game connectivity.

    Posted: 03 Mar 2019 04:50 AM PST

I play games on PC. My internet has had no issues since I've gotten it but now all of a sudden it's acting very strange. Random lag spikes and connecting to games and matches are failing almost like the NAT suddenly switched itself to strict. No changes were made. I made sure to forward the ports necessary for the games I am playing. Wasn't needed before so I don't see why I would need to now but either way it didn't make a difference. If it helps on Rocket League it causes "Error 67" about 4 out of every 5 matchmaking matchups and cancels them. On Pavlov VR I get authentication errors upon joining servers sometimes and kicked randomly with "the connection timed out" errors. Any advice is appreciated.

    Awful MSI GS65 Stealth 8SE

    Posted: 03 Mar 2019 04:49 AM PST

I purchased the new Msi gs65 stealth 8se two days ago and had to return it do to it running incredibly slowly on games such as counter strike and rust. Less than 30 fps on low settings. Additionally the trackpad would freeze up when in game. After returning the laptop and being given a new one, I am still having the same problems. I have made sure I have all up to date drivers, plugged into power and settings are all configured correctly and I do not know what else to do. Can anyone help? Very confused at the moment.

CPU not turbo boosting at low battery levels even on AC Power

    Posted: 03 Mar 2019 04:48 AM PST

    I have an Acer Nitro 5 AN515-51.

    i5-7300HQ / GTX 1050(+235 Core, +750 Mem) / 16GB D4-2400 / Windows 10 Home 64-bit

Since last week, I noticed that my CPU, whose base is 2.5 and boost is 3.1 on all 4 cores, was stuck at 2.5GHz even when I was playing games, giving me a CPU bottleneck. Also, CPU-Z and HWMonitor tells me that Vcore does not go higher than 0.94 volts and wattage never goes higher than 34W, while TDP is 45.

My power plan is set at Maximum Performance using the slider on the battery icon, and Processor Minimum Power State is set to 100% when on AC power in Control Panel. My BIOS does not have a "Toggle Intel SpeedStep " option, and I tried loading default BIOS settings which did not solve the issue.

    CPU-Z / HWM screenshot:

    https://imgur.com/a/kcwdbS3

EDIT: My battery level is at 44% and the CPU returns to normal, boosting up to 3.1GHz on all 4 cores.

My PC keeps freezing, and I don't know what the problem is or how to locate the problem.

    Posted: 03 Mar 2019 04:47 AM PST

Hi, as the title says, my PC keeps freezing.

When a "freeze" occurs, everything stops for ~5-10 seconds before resuming back to normal. If I'm watching a video on YouTube, the video freezes, and if the freeze lasts for 10 seconds, I see a super fast forwarded version of the 10 seconds of the video I missed (and then the video plays on as if nothing happened). I usually watch videos with my monitor speakers, and audio from the YouTube videos play as normal during the freezes.

The freezing seems to be occurring randomly, even when there's no particular load on the PC. I've had this issue for a while, and I'm not sure how to fix it. All the articles on the internet point to overheating or broken drivers, which isn't the case for me (CPU/GPU temps are normal (30-40C on both).

So far I have: - Reinstalled Nvidia graphics drivers - Restarted PC - Reset BIOS (consequently putting my CPU back at stock) - Reset GPU back to stock settings (via X1 Precision) - Tried turning my PC on and off again

    My PC specs: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/justinm517/saved/9pnMZL

    • CPU is overclocked at 4.9GHz on all cores
    • GPU is overclocked, but shouldn't be affecting me because my GPU is pretty much idling when I browse the internet (which is when the freezes occur)

I'm not sure how to locate the issue, or if the issue is a software or hardware issue. Does anyone have any tips on how to locate the problem or fix it?

I don't know too much about this, but could this possibly a sign that my GPU is "dying"? I've read a lot of reviews saying that the 2070 cards are prone to failing. My 2070 is only 3 months old.

    Sorry for the long post.

used wrong adapter for powering 2080, pc wont boot. how fucked am i?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2019 04:41 AM PST

I used the wrong power adapter for my new graphics card, i thought i fried it, as the pc wouldnt boot, no beep, no fans spins nothing, just a flash of the RGB lights for split second and an audible whine humming sound. turns out the graphics card is fine (tested in another computer). now im wondering how likely is it that my processor and RAM is okay? why would plugging the wrong power into the gfx card fry the mobo and leave the card working? because the gpu survived does that my my 8600k might still be alive? thanks

Will changing my WhatsApp number delete chat history for my contacts?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2019 04:37 AM PST

    I can only find info on what happens to your history: you keep chat history if you change your number but stay on the same phone. What about your contacts? Does their chat history with you stay/move to the new number? I really don't want them to lose it. ;;

Edit: so my contacts will lose our history if I change my number: is there any way for them to restore it from a backup? I know how to get the .sme files but can they restore it for my new number?

Tips for protecting mouse from sweaty fingers

    Posted: 03 Mar 2019 04:26 AM PST

I've got sweaty fingers which builds dirt over time and it really bugs me. For my xbox controller, I have resorted to using a small towel to wrap over it so that it does not get dirty but the same solution can't be applied to my mouse as I cant feel the side buttons. So instead, I use a thin clear tape to tape over any cracks and over the buttons. It doesn't help much with the sensitivity but at least the dirt wouldn't get inside and become hard to clean. Anyone facing similar issues? Please help! Any advice will be appreciated!

    Help Needed! RAM problem/question

    Posted: 03 Mar 2019 04:21 AM PST

    Hey guys,

So in continuation of my previous post, that sadly got no replies (https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/aw7p1a/sudden_fps_drops_in_many_games_ran_fine_earlier/)

Shortly: I play 1-2 games of whatever and then start receiving huge fps drops (to 15-20 at which point its unplayable) until i restart my pc or let it rest a lot.

I've read on the internet and traced the problem back to the RAM.

So basically Overwatch uses 2-3GB of RAM depending on situation, according to Task Manager.

At all times 2GB of my RAM is used, which i guess is Windows, but then i start playing Overwatch and when the lags/fps drops start happening, my RAM is stuck at 5,9/7,9, and seeing as i do not run anything else other than OW - I'd calculate the 2GB from Windows, and 2-3GB from OW, and the rest small apps running in the background, but they still dont add up to 5,9GB. And even then - why are the remaining 2 GB not being used? Why would it stop there and start building up fps lags?

    Im running Win 10 64 bit, 8 GB of RAM, i7 7700HQ @ 2,80ghz and a GTX 1050 4GB

    Any ideas?

DisplyPort turns off after motherboard logo

    Posted: 03 Mar 2019 04:17 AM PST

As it says in the title, my monitor won't receive a signal after startup from DisplayPort.

I've now connected my PC via HDMI, but that means I can't make complete use of my 144hz monitor. DisplayPort has had some issues before, but normally just wiggling the cable around a bit did the trick. Now I only get the logo of my motherboard (I think BIOS works as well), but after that I don't get a signal. Google searches have only shown me the opposite so far, where they can't see the BIOS but the rest works fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Recovering Mp4 footage.

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 09:58 PM PST

    Hi guys,

Receiving the error "The file isn't playable. That might be because the file type is unspported, the file extension is incorrect, or the file is corrupt." from VLC media player when trying to play my a few mp4s i have.

I looked up software to adjust corupted files and came into a website called Fix.video. I uploaded my footage, and they were able to fix it for free, but apparently it is going to cost me over $60.00 to download it.

Is there a free way to recover the footage?
