Am I just dumb? How do I make it so the screen does NOT resize every time I tap/select a text box?

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 01:04 PM PST

This is the worst most frustrating part of Android for me. I have tried searching Google and the few threads I've found are really technical. Is there really no app or way to do this?

It is so obnoxious Everytime I want to click anywhere in a text box or something the screen has to adjust and resize. I wouldn't be clicking it if I didn't have the screen right where I wanted it. Plus it makes things more laggy. Any help is appreciated.

Phone dials when screen rotates (Samsung S9+)

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 12:33 PM PST

    Hi everyone,

Since the most recent Android update, I've had an annoying problem. Whenever I receive a text, if I hit the power button and put the phone down, the screen rotates then dials the person I was texting. This never happened before the update to Android 9.

Any advice on turning that "feature" off would be greatly appreciated!

How best to backup and reset an Android phone?

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 02:06 PM PST

My ZTE Axon 7 has been insanely slow and unstable, and I have been meaning to factory reset it and start anew for quite some time now. Does anyone have any suggestions for the best way to do this? I have Google Authenticator on the phone and currently don't use any backup system aside from the default Google one. I'd like to keep all of my pictures (I think they're also automatically saved to Google photos), but I'm not sure if there's anything else vital that I want to keep. I wouldn't want to reset my phone only to realize I forgot to back up something important.

Home and app switcher buttons not working

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 05:48 PM PST

I've got a pixel 2 xl on the latest update. Not rooted. Verizon.

I have tried restarting, factory resetting, and doing the Nova launcher workaround to trigger the setup function. I have tried switching accounts and creating accounts. I have tried switching to the gesture function, and the home function doesn't work there either.

I'm out of ideas unless someone has any of what to do next?

Edit: fun twist, the buttons work when I pull down the notification bar.

    Screenshot Quick Settings Tile

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 10:11 PM PST

Is there a way to add a screenshot quick settings tile in (nearly) stock Android, without using an app? I found tutorials using adb shell to do this, but it does not seem to work on my device.

    Problem with new V30

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 12:46 PM PST

    Hello everyone,

I just received my V30 and have been using it for about a week. It is running 7.1.2. I have installed Spotify and Google Camera from an apk website and xda-developers separately.

Recently I noticed three games were randomly installed on my phone, "Empire" a slots game and another game I forgot. None of which were installed by me. Malwarebytes is telling me that everything is perfectly fine but that is obviously not the case.

What is this problem and how can I remove it?

Android Auto Issue - "Sorry I can't help with that yet" when trying to send or respond to text

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 12:39 PM PST

Variations of failure message include "I don't know how to help with that" and a couple others.

I can say "Hey Google, Text" and it will ask me who. I tell it, the it asks me what the message is. It repeats it back to me, then asks if I want to send or change. If I say send, that is where it fails.

Google Assistant works as expected outside Android Auto.

Anyone else seeing this, and any ideas on how to fix?

My phone acts like it has low RAM

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 09:09 PM PST

    Hello guys!

I have an Honor 10 Lite, currently sitting at 3GB RAM.

Thing is that, whenever I switch from app to app (doesn't matter how quick), the first one I opened, restarts.

    For example:

Im using Google Chrome. I write a post on reddit, go check my whatsapp real quick, come back to Google Chrome and it justs restarts the app and I lose everything I wrote.

This happens with Instagram, YouTube, Chrome, WhatsApp, Shazam, etc.

I might think this is a RAM problem. Correct me if I'm wrong.

    Can you guys help me?

EDIT: Also, my phone is ghost vibrating all the time. I can't turn off the Notification Reminder since the UI from Huawei (EMUI) is different.

Any way to install an Android OS on an older Windows 8 Tablet without a USB Stick?

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 01:06 PM PST

Been looking around the entire week and haven't found any guides or anything of the sort that shows/says it can be done without a USB Stick.

The Tablet is an older Asus Tablet from 2013ish. I don't know the exact model of it since it's still in storage but was hoping to at least get some use out of it.

Can you change desktop icon size on Nova Launcher?

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 04:32 PM PST

Using Oreo 8.1.0 and MiUi 10 on a Xiaomi Redmi 5. Could only find the setting for changing icon size in the app drawer.

I especially want the icons I keep at the bottom to be smaller (the ones above the buttons, like phone, messaging)

Is the only solution to download an icon pack with smaller icons?

Android 9 - Messages: Is there a way to remove, or reduce, the large, empty, unused space in Messages?

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 07:18 PM PST

My phone just upgraded to Android 9, Messages included, and now half the screen is taken up by a completely unused "Messages" and status text area. If you scroll a little it gets reduced, but it's absolutely unnecessary. Is there and option to turn that portion off or just reduce it so default is like how it is when you first scroll?

Is there a way to completely disable Play Protect?

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 06:53 PM PST

I currently have a OnePlus 5T on Android 8.1.0. I have had Play Protect turned off in the play store for the entire life of my phone. However I have had play Protect warn me about an app it deemed as risky a few months ago and then today it removed a different app without asking. I just had a notification claiming that the app was considered harmful and was removed by play protect.

The first thing I did was to verify that Play Protect was still turned off and, at least in the play store settings, it says that full scanning is turned off and that only play store apps will be checked. I don't remember for certain but I am reasonably sure that the app that was removed without my consent today was sideloaded, not downloaded through the play store.

Regardless, I don't like that Google can selectively remove apps from my phone "for my safety".

A quick search only turned up guides about disabling play protect the way that I already had. Does anyone know if there is a way to fully disable play protect? For the record I am rooted, so I can hopefully use this to my advantage. Ideally I would still like to keep access to the play store, but I would appreciate hearing about any solutions for fully disabling play protect, even if it means that I lose access to the play store.

    Did I just brick a brand new S5 G900V

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 04:33 AM PST

Hey guys I just got my friend a samsung galaxy s5 new off ebay here in Australia. It came with lollipop and I updated it to a new firmware of marshmellow 6.0.1 that happened to have some Verizon bloat in it. It worked with phone calls but no data would work though the sim card.

I am now trying to revert to put a non Verizon version of marshmellow on there and I am getting the SECURE CHECK FAIL recovery error when trying to flash it through odin..

Can anyone help me just get this running and Hopefully didn't waste $200aud

    TIA

Phone already knew the name of a new number

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 06:43 PM PST

    Hello!

I have a Samsung S8 and use verizon. I gave an acquaintance my number. They texted me and it showed just their phone number. I opened the text, replied, then exited the conversation. Now instead of the phone number, it had this person's name. I hadn't made a contact for them yet at all. What is that about? Am I hacked or is that a thing? If I'm hacked, what should I do?

    Thanks!

Google Maps does not give me directions to a Google Calendar event

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 06:31 PM PST

Google maps only gives me options to call and share a location. It does not give an option for directions. How do I get there?

I have a google calendar event at that location that might be making this issue. But I don't know how to resolve it.

I can get directions to other places.

Has Google Hangouts lost custom notification sounds?

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 06:24 PM PST

All I see now is the option to turn notifications on and off for an individual person. I noticed when all my Hangouts notifications sounds became the stock generic one. Is this the case across the board, or is it isolated to my phone? I updated to the latest version in Google play just to be sure, but same deal.

Network carrier interfering with internet access?

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 05:37 PM PST

I've been using my p20 pro for about 2 months and all of a sudden, when I'm upstairs in my house, I lose internet access when starting up clash of clans or sometimes apps like Reddit or Snapchat.

I can't find any solution to why or how this happens or how to fix it, I'm not that knowledgeable when it comes to anything more than surface level technology. I've looked at my routers settings and idk what most of it means.

Anyway, once I set my network carrier to manual, the internet connection is perfect

I'm getting about 100 download but once I open clash of clans I lose internet access and an exclamation mark appears next to the WiFi icon

Anyone know how to fix this?

Samsung Phone acting out. Cant use power button, home button glitches

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 05:12 PM PST

I have a Gaaxy s6 edge. Today the damn thing has starting acting completly out of line.

Whenever i press the home button, google assistant pops u, then pops up again maybe once or twice again. It lags a lot going from app to app, opens multiples of different apps. And the power button is unresponsive, so matter how much i press the thing, it wont work.

I have tried force rebooting the phone many times. It usually works normally a few minutes after the reboot, power button and home button work like normal. But then suddenly, the home button will vibrate and all the problems return.

Do you guys have any idea what coud be wrong? Should i just give up and get a new phone?
