    Recently just purchased the Asus FX503VM running an i-5 7300HQ Processor and a GTX1060(3gb). Been running test on it and been averaging GPU temps as high as 90c and CPU temps around 85c. Is this normal??

    Yoga C930 vs 2018 MPB 13"

    As the title suggests, I'm on the fence between these two laptops.

    I'm replacing my 2014 MBP, the main reasons are CPU score and RAM. My current MBP scores 4362 over at cpubenchmark.net and the 8GB of ram just can't keep up anymore on Mojave.

    My use case for this system is media consumption, photo editing, mobility, battery life, web browsing. Gaming, 4k video editing, 3D work, are things I will not be doing on this machine. I have a desktop for that.

    Here's some quick hit points for the C930 and 2018 MBP 13":

    2018 MBP 13":

    1 MSRP: $2000 (with 2.3ghz cpu, 16gb ram, 256gb ssd)

    2 Great looking color calibrated 13" 2560-by-1600 IPS screen

    3 MAC OS

    4 8-10 hours battery life

    5 USB-C / Thunderbolt 3 (4 ports)

    6 10947 on cpubenchmark.net

    C930:

    1 MSRP: $1330 (with 1.8ghz i7, 16gm ram, 256gb ssd, 1080p screen)

    2 Screen could be 4k, but I prefer 1080p for windows because I still think their DPI scaling isn't great, and I'm not a pixel peeper. And it gets 5 more hours battery with 1080p vs 4k screen. Also 14" screen.

    3 12-14hr battery life

    4 Soundbar, top 3 audio for any laptop out there, maybe #1

    5 Reversible flip screen for tablet mode

    6 Great IO, 2 USB-C / Thunderbolt 3, 1 full size USB, one 3.5mm audio jack.

    7 8327 on cpubenchmark.net

    Common factors between both:

    1 Great battery life

    2 Backlit keyboards

    3 Good color IPS screens

    4 Both have good IO, just need a few more adapters for MBP

    Pros for c930:

    1 DDR4 memory (vs DDR3 for MBP)

    2 Soundbar built in

    3 Tablet mode

    4 Better battery life

    5 Upgradable SSD

    Pros for MBP:

    1 Much better CPU, 30%+ more performance

    2 Higher resolution screen (with DPI scaling that's flawless)

    3 Better overall build quality

    A few things I didn't mention, because they don't really matter to me. Windows vs MAC OS, makes no difference to me. I've been using both OS for a decade, they both have the ability to accomplish the exact same tasks for me. Price, MBP is much more expensive, but again it's not really a factor for me. One thing I kinda do like with the MBP is the 13" screen, vs the 14" C930 screen. I'm buying this to be an ultra portable, while still having enough horsepower to last 3ish years. The smaller size of the MBP is nice.

    Looking for any and all criticisms of my take on this, or any other suggestions for devices. I've been heavily researching for a week, and probably have looked at all 13" 2018 ultrabooks out there, and narrowed it to these two, but maybe I missed something. Also looking for pros/cons I missed between the MBP and C930.

    Just got my New HP Omen 15T-dc000 laptop... and i cant hear myself think over the fans. Please help

    The laptop is great, Its an Omen 15t-dc000 Gaming notebook with i7 8750, Nividia GTX 1070 max-q, 16gb ram, and so far as ive tested it, its running games like minecraft at near 500fps, with others @ around 120

    great... except its loud as shit.

    I installed all the windows updates, the BIOS update, and turned off the "fan always on" setting. And yet on Idle it sounds like a blowdryer, and god forbid i should open a game or it turns into a jet engine with CPU temps spiking straight into the 70-high 80s.

    Is there anyway to cut down the noise and the temp for this laptop? and if it involves undervolting, can someone link a tutorial how to do that, im kinda clueless.

    An option I was looking at was the Huawei Matebook X Pro and in the future I was thinking of maybe getting a Razer Core to essentially use this as a home pc for gaming as well as a work laptop for college.

    If you have recommendations for laptops that I should look into feel free to drop them in the comments.

    Also I am curious if the idea of me using the Razer Core is an actual option by running my gpu through that over thunderbolt.

    Hey guys,

    I'm helping a friend shop around for a new laptop. Her previous was a MacBook.

    • Total budget and country of purchase: United States, she's trying to not go too high above $1000. Low $1000s should be okay. Would need good reason to go with 1100-1200.

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. She prefers 2-in-1 but touchscreen is fine.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you? Pretty important. Not a desktop replacement.

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows.

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Anything below 15". 15 is too clunky. Anything around 13 is preferred but can go to 14.

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Some light photoshop and semi-casual gaming. Would prefer dedicated gpu.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? N/A.

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? At least a touch screen. Good keyboard is a plus. Numpad is a plus but understands that numpad usually don't show up on anything below 15.

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. She wants a 13-14" touchscreen or 2 in 1 laptop with dedicated gpu and preferably an i7.

    -Acer Nitro 5: i5 8300H, 8GB, 1TB + 16GB intel optane, GTX 1060 6GB

    -Asus FX504GM: i5 8300H, 8GB, 1TB, GTX 1060 6GB

    -HP Omen 15: i7 7700HQ, 8GB, 1TB + 128GB SSD, GTX 1060 6GB, 120Hz display

    So few days ago I got a liquid on my laptop while the case was closed. Even still the liquid had gotten kinda everywhere. I tried getting as much as possible off by wiping greatly. I open my laptop and there's a white line in the middle of the screen and a weird bright spot in the bottom right. I thought that I could live with this but then the next time I opened the laptop, the whole screen turned bright white and I can't see anything but I know for sure that the laptop is other than that okay because I could access desktop before when there was only one white line. I need help with this I'm at a loss and I don't have the money to afford repairing. My laptop is Acer Aspire E5.

    Looking for a cheap 2 in 1 for lightweight tasks.

    Pretty much this thing only has to run 2 tabs of chrome and maybe spotify at most.

    I'd like to keep it under $250

    Prefer 2 in 1, with gorilla glass if possible

    Lightweight is important, and as for looks i'd like a solid color, like black or chrome, nothing fancy.

    SSD is a must for quick bootup.

    Windows 10 or the chromebook OS.

    Long baterry life would be nice, but not the most important as i'm usually close to an outlet at all times around the house/at work.

    Was wondering if 4gb of ram is enough for my purposes, and if chromebook os is better here since i'd imagine it takes less ram?

    Laptop fan wont start on battery

    Hi, I have got an HP pavilion power laptop, with an i5-7300HQ - GTX 1050 4gb - 8gb ram - 1tb hdd.

    When I game on battery the fans wont start and it thermo throttle, but when I plug the PC it runs with the fans and everything is OK. I check the Power management and nothing, also didnt found on google.

    I dont want to game only with the PC conected to power because sometimes I´ve got 80% of battery and I want to play...

    Does an ASUS zenbook with both an sSD, HDD and an i7 processor even exist?

    The specs on this Zenbook look perfect for what I need.

    I do a lot of programming, but I also make music and DJ - hence the need for 2 hard drives. However, upon messaging 2 of the sellers on Amazon for that model they tell me that their product actually doesn't have both the SSD and HDD.

    What's going on here? Does a Zenbook even exist with these specs?

    And if not, can someone point me towards a decent laptop that does have an i7, a HDD and an SSD? My current laptop was from PC Specialist but I've been very disappointed with their quality.

Been looking at the HP envy 13 x360 ryzen 5 as a candidate but I have been unable to decide if I can deal with the heat.     Idk which one to get since both are pretty much similar in terms of specs. I can't find reviews for the inspiron online and i'd like to know if its any better compared to the vivobook especially in terms of the screen, build quality, thermals and the keyboard.

    Laptop memory upgrade advice [ASUS FX504GM-EN150T]

    Hi,

    I posted this in r/buildapc and it was removed so I thought I'd come here.

    Apologies if I haven't followed any formatting rules or I'm posting this in the wrong place but I have as ASUS FX504GM laptop with 8GB of memory and I was planning on upgrading it to 16GB.

    On the products page for my laptop it says it has 1 8GB DDR4 with SO-DIMM form factor and there are no free slots.

    I searched on Google and on the Crucial website they have a list of compatible memory and it came up with one with the following specs:

    Specs: DDR4 PC4-21300 • CL=16 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR4-2666 • 1.2V • 2048Meg x 64

    My question is really, do I have to get something with the same PC4 spec and the same DDR4 speed or can I go a bit higher?

    I'm happy to spend a couple hundred quid for an upgrade if it is possible

    The exact SKU is FX504GM-EN150T
