Posted: 02 Oct 2018 04:23 PM PDT Any ideas? Is this a widespread issue? It happened right after the update. EDIT: I figured it out...sorta. setting my network to public fixes the issue. That's why the VPN works. Why wont it work with it set to private? [link] [comments] |
Starting small business - need help Posted: 03 Oct 2018 04:44 AM PDT Hi everyone, I'm in the process of launching a small financial services firm with 4 other partners. I'm trying to figure out what I need in terms of computer systems and was hoping some here could at least point me in the right direction. Current plan is for us to all have laptops with docking stations. We have a domain purchased and will be creating a web page but could use some suggestions on who to use for hosting (no e-commerce, just a nice/basic Wordpress site). We'll need domain emails - not sure best host for those... We'll need to be able to save, share and centrally access files between the 5 of us. Most of our work will flow through a broker management system we're in the process of leasing - this will cover file management, invoicing, accounting and will also have a client portal. We'll need Microsoft office and adobe - thinking we should lease at least initially to keep costs down, but would appreciate any suggestions. Basically: do we use something like AWS for cloud storage instead of a physical network - costs are a concern initially. What's the best long-term? What do i need to buy, what should I lease and how do we share data between 5 computers? Thanks for any help you can provide! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Oct 2018 03:15 AM PDT As the title says, my PC seems to not be using about 8GB of my installed RAM. I've tried some common fixes (disabling virtualized memory, setting a max memory in msconfig at my installed amount), but it doesn't seem to take. Any ideas on what I could do to fix this or at least what it could be? [link] [comments] |
Installling Android on a Windows Tablet - where to get firmware? Posted: 03 Oct 2018 12:52 AM PDT Hello Reddit; i have a Toshiba WT7-C, 7" windows tablet laying around, practically unusable nowadays, because windows on 1 gb ram. So i tried installing android from the x86 project, after a couple of failed attempts, it actually worked; i was able to install it and have the tablet boot from it automatically. Which leads me to believe it's a "driver" issue. but since you can't install drivers in android, that was off the table. now to my question: Toshiba sold the same unit under a similar name (AT7-C) running android Kitkat from factory. Where can i get my hands on the firmware or maybe a system image of that Tablet? Here are some links: The tablet i own: https://support.toshiba.com/support/staticContentDetail?contentId=4007169&isFromTOCLink=false The tablet running android: https://support.toshiba.com/support/staticContentDetail?contentId=4011889&isFromTOCLink=false Any help would be greatly appreciated! thank you :) [link] [comments] |
My mother got locked out of her facebook account because we got her a new phone Posted: 03 Oct 2018 02:43 AM PDT Long story short, we surprised my mom with a brand new iPhone XS Max. She has been using her old iPhone for 4 years now and it was going to be a hand-me down to my young nephew. We backed up everything and reset the settings of the old phone immediately (biggest mistake here), losing access to her facebook account, which apparently, she doesn't know the password to. It also wasn't connected to an e-mail address. It was only connected to a really old phone number that we didn't have access to anymore. I called the provider and they told me that they can't give us access because the line was already terminated. I don't know what else to do since I'm not too well informed about this kind of stuff. Is there any way to contact facebook directly and provide identification? I can't seem to find anything via google. It's her only way of being in touch with her friends and I really want to get it back for her. I'm not sure if this si the right sub for this. Please point me towards the right direction if not, thanks! [link] [comments] |
Shopping for a modem and am confused, which one is it? Posted: 03 Oct 2018 12:02 AM PDT I am interested in definitely getting the 400Mbps download plan from my internet provider but I'll probably get the 1Gbps, and want a modem and router that can handle that speed. When looking at this Netgear CM700 modem, it lists both supporting 1.4Gbps and only supporting up to 500Mpbs. Is there something I'm not understanding here? [link] [comments] |
How do I figure out if my usb port is 3.0 or 3.1 Posted: 03 Oct 2018 02:01 AM PDT something that's not looking up the motherboard online and looking because I don't think they match. google is failing me. Reason I'm asking is because I am being refused tech support because they claim their product only supports 3.0 and not 3.1, which im sure is bullshit Also is it possible to get another Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller? on my motherboard if it already has one. Like can I add another manually through hardware? Not just a simple 3.0 port [link] [comments] |

Roaches inside of my Tech. Is this a good solution? Posted: 03 Oct 2018 04:35 AM PDT So long story short, I bought a PS3 from someone online and it ended up having roaches. Absolutely NONE made it outside of the console, other than coming out to die. the first one pop out right when the guy left, and i killed it and sat the PS3 outside, away from the home. I wrapped the PS3 up in 8 plastic bags (Not cheap ones, reusable bags) and Its been like that since Saturday night. Since Sunday I have been putting the PS3 inside of my freezer (while wrapped in the plastic) for 40 mins, twice that day. On Monday I left it in the freezer for 6 1/2 hours while I slept. And Tonight (Tuesday/Wednesday) I have just put in it the freezer and plan to do a 4 hour freeze. What I am hoping to do suffocate and freeze the roaches at the same time, the big ones aren't a total concern to kill (yes they are, ik ik) but my real goal is to kill all the eggs. I'm considering taking apart the PS3, either today (Wednesday) after I let it dry up (condensation, and i fear/hope it doesn't break the system its an original fat model that plays PS1/PS2 games, hope the bags helps some what) And clean the living hell out of the console. Do you think this is sufficient? German Roaches. In California [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Oct 2018 12:49 AM PDT After dusting out my computer (not with a vacuum) I did a restart. Well, turns out I bumped a power cable partially out of my HDD (three drives total, 2 ssd and 1 hdd). Upon restarting I get the black and white screen after bios that says no operating system detected please disconnect extra drives and try again. I try that suggestion (plugging every drive back in and out) and still nothing. I begin making sure the boot order is OK in the BIOS. For the record, all the drives show up. When I disconnect the drive that has the OS and leave the others in I get a repeating error message about no bootable media. Equipment: MSI gaming pro mobo, 1 850 evo 250 (OS drive) 1 sandisk SSD) and one HDD. Nothing else should have changed during all this except the bumped cord and replugging in all the sata cables to check for an error. Oh, I did unplug my USB microphone and rotate the computer during this off period. I'm wondering if I: somehow have a weird BIOS setting that is off (I reset the default, still does not work) or if somehow my OS drive was corrupted during this :( Is it possible this is still a BIOS issue? I'm gonna go buy a flash drive so I can make a bootable media and try and repair it. I had data on there that didn't get updated to drop box :( [link] [comments] |
Most reliable way of storing data Posted: 03 Oct 2018 12:43 AM PDT idk if this is the right place for this kind of question and I apologize if it isn't, first time using reddit for anything and all that. Thing is, I love movies, and I love having them, but I just had a terrible experience with what I thought was the most reliable way of storing them. I had data losses in both SSDs I use for storing my media. Both were always kept in dry, protected places so I don't think it's about the way I physically store the drives, so I have to ask, is there any more reliable way for me to store this kind of stuff? I did some reading and I guess I should go after optical storage, but I wanted to be sure before investing in anything new. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 Oct 2018 04:25 AM PDT Hi guys, got a weird one for you all. I seem to have an issue with my computer and I'm hoping somebody will be able to help. I built my computer around the start of January (specs listed below if it helps) and very recently I'm having an issue where my computer will start, the fans seem to run aggressively fast, but the computer won't actually boot and show any display. I temporarily fixed this yesterday by unplugging everything attached to the computer and holding the power button for roughly 30 seconds. Yesterday my computer was on and off about 4 times and it booted perfectly every time. However, this morning it's happened again and my previous method of holding the power button to drain any built up energy or static hasn't worked. Yet I let it run for a couple of seconds and it's managed to boot after I held the reset button for a couple of seconds. Aside from this my computer runs fine (to my knowledge) device manager and OpenHardwareMonitor shows everything correctly and the resource monitor doesn't show any faults. Really strange issue and I'm not exactly sure what the problem is. Other articles online say it could be bad capacitors on the motherboard however my capacitors look completely normal (or so I believe). Look forward to hearing some solutions. Thanks so much in advance. Specs - CPU - Ryzen 5 1500X GPU - MSI GTX970 Mobo - MSI B350 Tomahawk Ram - 2 x 4GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 PSU - Corsair CS550M [link] [comments] |

My MacBook air isn't charging but it's percentage just randomly increases Posted: 03 Oct 2018 04:13 AM PDT So basically, I have been noticing lately how my laptop percentage just randomly increases. It increase roughly 1-4. For example, a few mins ago it was 19% but it jumped to 21% and just now it increased to %22. One time my laptop was 1% and I closed it and I came back to charge it but when I came back it was 99% (actually now I am not sure about this one 'cause it sounds too good to be true). I thought there was something wrong with it and it was truly 1% and that thing that shows the percentage was wrong so just to see if it was wrong, I didn't charge it and it lasted for hours and hours and eventually went down back to 1%. I am so confused. Images of the percentage increasing:https://image.ibb.co/hVQgrz/Screen_Shot_2018_10_03_at_9_00_33_pm.png https://image.ibb.co/iPe7Wz/Screen_Shot_2018_10_03_at_9_01_03_pm.png [link] [comments] |
I feel like I really messed my internet up. Posted: 02 Oct 2018 08:36 PM PDT I could really use some help right now. For hours my Playstation 4 was unable to locate an IP address there for I couldn't connect to the internet. So I manually typed in all my computers (Mac) IP address and other information. (Now realizing that was a terrible mistake) I can't seem to access anything from my computer now. I've reset the router, renewed DHCP lease, reset the computer. Anything I could think of or find online I tried. Where there was a number for the router underneath the subnet mask there is nothing now and I'm not sure if that's what is causing the problem. The more I looked into it I feel like it is the problem. The wifi doesn't work on my phone at all now either. It says I am connected to the wifi but it will not connect me to any sites or apps. Please help haha thank you. Edit: I can still watch Netflix with no problem, couple other sites have no issues but everything else will not load at all. [link] [comments] |
year of computer stuttering slow and robotic audio during downloads or other tasks Posted: 03 Oct 2018 12:19 AM PDT I replaced, Ram, GFX card, Heatsink, Cpu, wiped SSD and reinstalled brand new system I tried all that above, which leads me to my other options, is it the mobo or hard drive? Im using i7 4790, 16GB ddr3 ram, SSD when I download fortnite, everything on computer slows down, robotic audio stuttering, when I DL steam games too, some DL's don't affect anything, if I open more then 50 tabs slows down, stuttering in game, if I DL from chrome no problems at all. I Notice core 0 of my CPU hits 100% a lot easily, but I switched out CPU two times trying to fix it. I'm almost like "fuk it" and buy whole new system, but this problem so persispent pissing me off, I guess II'll try to copy my new HDD and buy a new SSD and try to put it on that, as I don't want to fresh install again. What problem do you think it ? lol [link] [comments] |
Question about opening my Xbox One's NAT Type. Posted: 03 Oct 2018 03:58 AM PDT I share a router with my family, so I wanted to know if opening my Xbox One's NAT type could somehow affect the overall internet connection of my computer & phone and my parents computer & phones. Btw. my Xbox One is connected to my router with a cable, everything else is connected wireless, does this play any role? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Oct 2018 03:57 AM PDT As title says. When I made my account years ago, I put my age as way older so that I could get by the whole being under 18 thing. That was fine, I've been using my account for years without issue. Today, I decided to change it to my actual age (15) since I didn't see a reason to keep it at 25 years old or whatever it was that I had it. I went back to change my settings, which resulted in google telling me that my account is disabled and that to verify my date of birth I need to do it by either credit card (where they charge the owner 30 cents) or by a photo ID. I talked it through with my parents about my mistake, and they don't particularly care. They're certain that the ID will be traced back to their account and so won't be accepted. They also (I understand this part) don't want to use their credit card numbers on the internet without clear reason, or without being 100% sure that it's an actual website and not someone trying to steal their credit card info. However this leaves a problem. My account is going to be deleted in a month if I don't confirm my age, and I really don't want that since this account is connected to my school, my youtube account, my email account and photo backups. This would be really, really shit if it happened. Is there a solution other than convincing my parents to pay 30 cents to google? Thanks for anyone's help. [link] [comments] |
Screen artifacts/text rendering errors. Dying GPU? Monitor? Posted: 02 Oct 2018 02:49 PM PDT Over the past few weeks, I've had two increasing problems with my computer. The first is vertical stretches of color (mostly green) stretching across my monitor, sometimes checkered with other colors. The other is text not rendering, creating almost a glitch text effect. I've already swapped out my old DVI cable for a spare HDMI cable, so that isn't the issue. I assume it's either the GPU (MSI Radeon R9 380 4GB) or my monitor (BenQ GL2460HM), but I don't have spares of either to swap out and confirm. Are there any other ways of determining which is failing? Here are screenshots of my graphical issues. [link] [comments] |
