    Just switched from iPhone to an s9+

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 04:42 PM PDT

    Hi I just switched from my iPhone X to a Samsung galaxy s9+ and I'm an android noob, what kind of things can I do to my phone I heard there are a lot more customisation options etc. What things can I do that I couldn't do on iPhone? Also what apps should I definitely download?

    Wiped android phone keeps prompting to use an old work email address

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 11:51 AM PDT

    I left a company 5 years ago but a factory reset phone keeps suggesting it as an email address to use when logging in to websites and applications.

    It's not stored in saved email addresses, it's not in chrome, it's not stored in saved forms.

    I did a full download of my Google data and did a contents search for the email address and it only exists in my google calendar, when I mounted the file in outlook and searched it, there were some calendar entries from that email address in my calendar, I removed them, still showing.

    When I open Google Calendar in the browser, and search for the email address, up it comes as a suggested result before fully typed, with my google profile picture, I can't remove it and when I select it, there are no results. It's the only place I've found the email address.

    I need to get rid of it because it's driving me insane, help!

    I get decent battery life but as soon as I hit 1% my phone last forever

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 04:46 PM PDT

    I usually drain about 1 percent per 5-10min (I have everything max performance, so I think that's good) and when I hit 1% I get super high SOT time (I'm on 1% and my phone hasn't died). Does anybody know a fix? I calibrated my battery and everything.

    Setting or Custom keyboard that prevents words from deleting rapidly when backspacing?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 06:16 PM PDT

    When I backspace words and hold it down for to long, It will delete words to rapidly. I want single character deletion and for it to always be the same speed when deleting. Is there a setting or a keyboard that does this?

    What are your thoughts on installing TWRP onto a phone to remove a forgotten password?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 06:11 PM PDT

    This is probably something that should go on r/AndroidHelp, but I figured that this would be a good discussion.

    I have a Samsung Galaxy S6 that I replaced the fingerprints on (so it would recognise mine better). I entered the same backup password as before. Or atleast I thought I did.

    When I go back to my phone, it wouldn't recognise my fingerprint 5 times, which made it require the backup password. And for some reason, it wouldn't recognise my backup password either. I tried many different variations of it (trying to think of any typos I might have made when setting it) and even my previous backup password, but no luck after more than 30 tries.

    At first I thought I might have made a typo when setting it, but then I realised that that can't be right, as it asks me to type the password twice before setting it. So it might be that the phone didn't save the password correctly.

    Samsung support and another phone shop didn't give me any options to remove the password without deleting all the data on the phone, so I thought of something potentially drastic: Installing TWRP (TeamWin) to bypass Android and access the file system, to remove the password from the phone.

    Now of course, there's a risk of bricking the phone by installing a recovery ROM, but it seems like my phone may as well be considered to be bricked as no repair service is offering an option to remove the password without deleting the data on the phone. Hopefully the worst that happens is bricking the phone but not corrupting the data on it.

    So I ask this: Is this a good idea?

    I keep receiving texts and calls about the previous owner of my phone number

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 06:00 PM PDT

    If it helps, I have a Samsung Galaxy S8 Active.

    Ever since I got my new phone, I have received texts and calls from various companies as well as doctor related stuff about a "Joshua."

    My name is not Joshua but I'm guessing whoever had my phone number last was a "Joshua." This wasn't much of a problem until I signed up for something using texting and I got a confirmation text which thought my name was Joshua.

    How could I remove whatever it is that makes my phone think I'm Joshua. Please help.

    Phone runs out of RAM when Google maps is opened. Open up google maps, shuts down all audio. LG k20Plus

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 05:08 PM PDT

    As of just this past week my phone has mysteriously ran out of RAM? When I try and open up Google Maps while I'm listening to audio (Pocket casts, Soundcloud, Bandcamp) my audio shuts off and at first I thought Gmaps was going a weird audio override but I don't think that is is because when I open up the app that was playing the audio it usually reboots fresh like it hadn't just been open (seemingly that Gmaps is taking ALL my available RAM just to boot)

    I have also noticed a big lag with animations between switching apps and opening up the drawer and trying to go from an app to the home screen.

    To my knowledge I haven't updated to anything new. This seems really out of the blue.

    Android system is at 7.0 Kernel: 3.18.31

    Changing external storage permissions in 4.4.2?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 04:20 PM PDT

    Model: Lenovo A916
    OS: Androis 4.4.2

    Some time ago i installed a custom rom to upgrade to Android 5.1, but some apps crashed randomly so i decided to flash to the original OS, 4.4.2.

    But it seems Android 4.4.2, unlike Android 5.1, doesn't let apps interact with the external storage. In 4.4.2, apps seem to completely ignore external storage and only acknowledge internal one.

    It seems i have to root my device and change the permissions.

    On platform.xml right now, the READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE says:

    <permission name="android.permission.READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" >

    <group gid="sdcard_r" />

    </permission>

    What would change if if it said this instead? :

    <permission name="android.permission.READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" >

    <group gid="sdcard_r" />
    <group gid="media_rw" />
    <group gid="sdcard_all" />

    </permission>

    I am not sure what these lines mean, i saw WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE had them, but if i had to guess, it would give permissions to read the external storage?

    Or how can i give apps total permission so apps can acknowledge the existence of the external storage?

    In summary what i want is to remove the SD card access restrictions for apps and games.

    Can one program for Android on Android itself?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 09:07 PM PDT

    Hey everybody, I'm a student and I'm learning Python right now. I've used C/C++ in the past as well. So I'm looking for an alternative to Android Studio that doesn't require a computer so that I could write and run apps on my Android device.

    I've been running Python code on Termux and writing it with Vim a lot, and have tested QPython as well. But right now I feel like I'm missing out on making apps that have GUIs with views, pretty buttons/images, touch input, and home screen icons of their own. Things you can't do on a terminal emulator.

    So what do I need? Thanks in advance. :)

    Disabling the navbar on the note 9?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 08:40 PM PDT

    I use the Navigation gestures app by XDA to hide the navbar and use edge gestures for my navigation of my device. It's really fast and I like it a lot, since simply turning off the navigation bar using Samsung's method will still have it pop up when using the keyboard or on the homescreen.

    But there's a problem, with this method of hiding the navbar, Samsungs edge lighting now does not show up along the bottom of the device, it only does along the top and sides.

    Is there a way to hide the navigation bar indefinitely while still keeping the edge lighting effect?

    Extremely stupid post, but its important to me to recover the data.

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 04:41 PM PDT

    So i have a Samsung Galaxy Alpha which broke the screen of couple years ago. Its got a shit load of photos and data on it id love to access, sadly it was rooted and the E-Trip killed the fingerprint scanner and it has a passcode, i tried to unlock it using the samsung find my device website but until it connects to wifi or mobile data it wont unlock it. I tried putting in a simcard but it didnt connect to the internet nor do i have the modem from when i broke it for it to connect to the wifi.

    Is there any way i can take my data out? I dont even know if its rooted or not.

    Is there some command i can give it from my system to connect it to my wifi to unlock it via find my phone or any other solution? Any help is appreciated.

    Note:- it turns on and stuff just fine.

    Need help with screen lock issue

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 08:09 PM PDT

    It's a long story, but I managed to make a typo when I changed my password. Was locked out of my phone for a day and a half. Finally managed to typo correctly, but I don't know what the typo was. Now my phone screen has been on for hours because I can't get locked out again. Can't seem to typo the password again, at least not yet. Is there a way to turn off my screen lock without doing a factory reset? I have an Alcatel A30 Fierce. (If there is a better place for me to post this, please link it)

    I accidentally wiped the OS off my Asus Transformer pad TF700T. How can I get it back on?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 07:44 PM PDT

    It was running android 5.1.1. and was caught in a boot loop type of thing where it would work for a while and then crash.

    The Playstore didn't work (long story) so everything on it was an APK. It has (had?) Teamwin recovery project installed on it.

    Pretty much I just want to know if I can side load android 5.1.1 or lower onto my tablet. Thanks for you help!
