Xiaomi updates their laptop lineup at ChinaJoy 2018

    Posted: 03 Aug 2018 08:23 AM PDT

Since there is no English article covering this yet, I thought it's better to post this quickly on here in my own words.

So Xiaomi updated their laptop lineup today. The Mi Gaming Notebook receives a CPU update bringing it to 8th generation Cores, with up to 6C12T on the i7. RAM frequency was also bumped up to 2666mhz. The top of line model has i7, 16G RAM, GTX 1060, 256 SSD + 1 TB HDD. Pricing starts at 6699 RMB.

The Mi Notebook Pro (15.6inch) line was also renewed. The main upgrade was changing dedicated GPU from MX150 to GTX 1050 Max-Q. The charger was also bumped up from 65W to 90W therefore, but it remains USB-C connected which is quite awesome for me. Otherwise the weight and dimensions are basically the same, with no changes to exterior. The renewed Pro is called Mi Notebook Pro GTX edition. It comes in two variants, one with i5 8250U and 8G RAM costing 6299 RMB, another with i7 and 16G RAM costing 7500 RMB. Both variants have 256G SSD and GTX 1050.

Pre-order for both new models starts today and shipping starts 16th of August.

I'll link some images tomorrow, it's quite tiring typing this all on mobile and it's getting late here in China. Hope you guys appreciate the information.

Edit: Some detailed specs for the Mi Gaming Notebook

    i5 8300H 8G 1TB+256G 1050Ti @ 6699 RMB

    i7 8750H 8G 1TB+256G 1050Ti @ 7499 RMB

    i5 8300H 8G 1TB+256G 1060 @ 7999 RMB

    i7 8750H 16G 1TB+256G 1060 @ 8999 RMB

Explain This, Why Hasn't MIUI 10 Rolled Out For The MiPad 4

    Posted: 03 Aug 2018 08:54 PM PDT

First I would like to thank everyone on this subreddit for constantly contributing meaningful commentary to my threads and even the few of you who watch my YouTube videos and reach out to me on various social media platforms. This thread is a little different:

I have been a pretty hardcore Android user since 2008 when I got a Sony XPeria x10 (IIRC) and immediately jumped head first into rooting and cyanogen mod. I fell out of love with android when windows phone was announced because of how absolutely wonderful and responsive the Microsoft operating system was, and to this day if I had the selection of applications and functionality android gives me with the microsoft operating system theres no doubt I would immediately jump ship back to Windows Phone.

Needless to say I am a mobile device power user and I have a decent understanding of how Android works. This is why I am confused as to the absence of MIUI 10 on the MI Pad 4. It uses the same SD660 and a Full HD screen as a lot of the other devices in Xiaomi's line up. The non LTE version won't need custom drivers for the wireless modems, there is no fingerprint reader to get drivers for, gesture support is already part of android 8.1, and the camera doesn't have OIS that would require support so to my understanding MIUI 10 should be a pretty easy/direct port over.

I have been granted permission to unlock my bootloader but until theres either a MIUI 10/Lineage OS port I don't see much reason to do it.

For those curious about my Xiaomi related youtube videos:

    https://youtu.be/htjj5bf9Aj8

PS: I'll probably be preordering a Mi A2 and getting it next week, if there is a demand for another AMA and follow up video about the Mi A2 I will do one for that device as well.

TLDR: I have a decent understanding for Android, Xiaomi doesn't have special hardware for the Mi Pad 4 so why don't we have MIUI 10 yet.

    Xiaomi M365 handlebar diameter

    Hello,

I was wondering if one of the owners could provide me the diameter of the handlebar where the Bell is installed or the Left of where Throttle is installed.

New Update For The Mi Pad 4

    Posted: 03 Aug 2018 01:52 AM PDT

    TWRP and MIUI

    Posted: 03 Aug 2018 07:48 PM PDT

So currently I'm running MIUI 10 beta Dev ROM with magisk rooted, and stock mi recovery. I plan to replace mi recovery with TWRP. My question is that will OTA zips work with TWRP? I'm ok with downloading full ROM zips instead of incremental zips since I have unlimited data. Will updating MIUI with TWRP cause TWRP to be replaced by mi recovery or will it cause a bootloop (I'm using a mi max 2)

Best place to buy the mi max 3 that actually has stock

    Posted: 03 Aug 2018 03:18 PM PDT

Hi What is the best place to buy the mi max 3 online that ships to australia that has stock?

I bought the 6gb ram, 128gb version of a seller on AliExpress the day it was released and they haven't shipped it yet and have every excuse under the sun. Obviously they have no stock.

I am thinking of cancelling the order and buying one elsewhere.

Question regarding Redmi Note 5 Pro purchase

    Posted: 03 Aug 2018 12:28 PM PDT

I am looking to buy the Redmi Note 5 Pro, the wiki lists several Aliexpress stores through which I can buy it without paying any extra taxes and I just wanted to make sure that I select correct device and shipping process.

As I understand it, I can buy the Redmi Note 5 Pro through this link and have to select the DHL shipping option to avoid paying extra taxes shipping it to Europe. Next to that, I would like to flash LineageOS since it is available for the Redmi Note 5. So my questions are: am I correct in believing that the Aliexpress link goes to the right device on which I can flash LineageOS later on, and will there be any extra costs if I select DHL as the shipping option? All help is greatly appreciated.

How do tampered roms/ distributor roms work with a locked bootloader?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2018 01:22 PM PDT

They are the only unofficial roms that work with a locked bootloader, even using another region's rom without an unlocked bootloader leads to a bootloop. Does anyone know how they did this?

Laser etching design onto Notebook Pro?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2018 01:04 PM PDT

    Hello everyone!

I got my hands on a Xiaomi Notebook Pro last week and the clean surface uptop is a bit too minimal for me. I noticed it was aluminium though, and know that laser etching designs onto such surfaces (think MacBook Pros) are common, but I couldn't find any pictures online of people doing such a thing for this device. I was just wondering- if you've etched any design onto your own Notebook Pro, can you share any technical aspects of settings you've used to do so, the final result, as well as the name of the shop through which you got it done?

    Thanks!

Really impressed with my new Mi A1 acquisition. Browsing reddit on sync and then leaving yt running for a few hours, all that while having snaps and messages continuously popping up.

    1. An electrical motorbike is a fast, convenient, and fun way to cover those kilometers. The xiaomi mi scooter is an electric motorbike for adults from Chinese giants Xiaomi. It is a transportable, foldable motorbike with an engine in the front wheel and a battery under the outdoor patio that together offer 18 mile range.
