Posted: 30 Aug 2018 02:57 AM PDT OS version: Windows 10 64-bits build 17134 For about a week now, changing the volume level messes with every bit of audio that is currently being played. Sound output stutters intensely for a moment, then resumes as normal. But some video games lose all audio entirely, which can only be fixed by restarting them. I haven't actually done anything to try and fix it other than a quick check with the problem solver and disabling/re-enabling the audio driver, to no effect. [link] [comments] |
Phone got soaked in sea water, touchscreen pressing randomly Posted: 29 Aug 2018 03:36 PM PDT My phone got splashed with sea water and lied in a puddle for abot 10 minutes. I've turned it off, took off the back cover and battery and let it dry in sun for a couple of hours. When I turned it on, the speaker and microphone weren't working and touchscreen was constantly randomly pressing different areas of the screen. I've let it spend the night in a bag of rice in vacuum packing. Tomorrow both microphone and speaker started working again but touchscreen was still pressing different parts of the screen. It's been 3 days and it still does the same. Sometimes when I use it, it works ok for some minutes and then starts pressing random parts of the screen. Sometimes it's so bad I can't do anything because the presses are too fast. I am not sure if water got between touchscreen and LCD or there is salt left. Anyone has any ideas of what can I do to repair it? Wait a bit longer or soak the phone in distilled water or replace the touchscreen? About a year ago I had an ingenious idea to clean the phone with alcohol. Some of it got between touchscreen and LCD, dissolved the glue that holds it together and made a small area on top part of the phone "stained". I presume that's where the seawater got in. Mac user needs help setting up new Win 10 Acer Aspire 5 laptop for kids. Posted: 30 Aug 2018 02:15 AM PDT I've never installed/set up a Win10 pc before. I've read a couple of guides and the main things I'm unsure about is setting up parental controls/restrictions for my kids, but I'm sure there are other issues I'm not familiar with, like removing unnecessary software. I gather that some of the steps I must take include:

Posted: 30 Aug 2018 03:20 AM PDT Mobo model is ASRock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3, CPU is Intel i7 2700k 3.5Ghz, GPU is GeForce GTX 660 Ti, OS is Windows 10. Windows was stuck in a bootloop, likely due to Windows update. Had to reinstall Windows 10, but now whenever I run windows update or try to install the GPU drivers (for GeForce GTX 660 Ti) it crashes back into the boot loop. Safe mode usually works. There are a fair amount of options in the BIOS which might be relevant; at one point I reset the CMOS so there's a chance that something might need to be changed, though I'm unsure what might be causing the error. The PC works relatively fine without the graphics card drivers installed, even when the monitor is plugged into the GPU HDMI slot. I'm guessing it's potentially a faulty GPU, though I wanted to rule out software fixes prior to deciding the GPU is rekt. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Cannot format 32 GB MicroSD card that had Raspbian on it Posted: 30 Aug 2018 02:53 AM PDT Hi all, I am at my wit's end here. I was using a SanDisk 32 GB Class 10 MicroSDHC card to run the Raspbian OS on my Raspberry Pi. However, it won't boot now, and I can't format the disk with any of the several software -- from DISKPART to those given on Hiren's Boot CD -- in any way. Additionally, the disk now shows it has only about 30.6 MB of space on it. The other partitions and the space are invisible on it! I have been trying to recover the partitions, but that 30.6 MB space seems to have raw data, so I couldn't even use Recuva or other tools. Like I said, I am at my wit's end. Could someone please help me out here? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
What's the best way to measure frequency and duration of internet dropouts? Posted: 29 Aug 2018 11:31 AM PDT My family switched to Comcast months ago because they offered a better deal but we've had issues off and on ever since. Speeds go up and down, there are frequent short dropouts (disrupting large downloads and streaming) and at least one 5-10 minute complete dropout every single day. Things improved for a while after they replaced/repaired a wire outside but came back recently. Another tech visited week when I was out of town on vacation and when I returned I saw that the situation wasn't much better (I'm the tech guy of the house). I've been using testmy.net to run automatic speed tests to illustrate the fact that sometimes our speeds slow down to a crawl, but how can I measure the frequency and duration of dropouts? Getting a tech to come here during convenient hours is a pain in the ass so the next time I make an appointment I want to make sure I have as much stats and info as possible. [link] [comments] |
The left part of the Mechanical Keyboard does weird stuff Posted: 30 Aug 2018 03:38 AM PDT Hello there, So, it appears that the left part of the keyboard is doing weird stuff(not the things the keys are supposed to do) like typing out /*-`123456789-=, even the LEDs are not cooperating with the other keys. How can i make VLC Media Player display Filenames instead of Metadata? Posted: 30 Aug 2018 03:36 AM PDT How can i set it up so that VLC Media Player displays the filenames in the playlist instead of the Metadata of a file? I found some advice on it that states to change some line in the settings. "Menu Tools -> Preferences (Show settings = ALL) -> Input/Codecs? Then at the very bottom of the right panel set the option "Change title according to current media" to "$F" or "$u" (without quotes $f= file name and path ---- $u= file name only}). Save, exit and restart VLC. " But that does seem to only adress the titlebar and it doesn't work for me anyway, even after restarting the player. [link] [comments] |
Antenna for phone - where to start? Posted: 30 Aug 2018 03:36 AM PDT So, my workplace is under many levels of steel, iron, and machinery, and I only get reception in a couple small, finicky places.I was looking into getting a small antenna to make the most of any signal that manages to get through - either phone-mounted, or externally connected to place up higher. I have a Sony Xperia xz2 compact - so only a usb-c connection. Is this even feasible? Would I be better off investing in a booster? [link] [comments] |
Weird Internet Speed Test Results Posted: 30 Aug 2018 03:15 AM PDT MY internet speed has extremely fast download speed, but very slow upload speed. Not that i really upload stuff much. But does anyone know what this means? Does it mean the wireless card is good or bad? Is my ISP the ones who set this? I have comcast and yes i can download things so fast its almost too good to be true. I don't upload very much but its not very fast if i upload, for example, a picture to facebook. So Im just wondering if this means anything deeper than "i can download fast but upload slow", like why? Any feedback would be great. Download speed: 148 mbps Upload speed: 3 mbps Snip of my test results: [link] [comments] |
Having regular lag spikes in online games. Posted: 30 Aug 2018 02:13 AM PDT A couple of weeks ago now I have started to experience regular lag spikes with my online games. Streaming videos doesn't seem to be an issue, the issue appears to be limited to just online gaming. I have tired to resetting the router, checking the internet speeds and changing over to phone hot spot but nothing has helped. Any ideas? Cheers! [link] [comments] |

Please help me solute the SSD performance problem Posted: 30 Aug 2018 01:54 AM PDT Just got a new computer CPU i5-8400 Disk SSD plextor m9peY 256GB MB gigabyte z370 gaming 7 GPU gigabyte 1060-6g gaming OS win10 v1083 I run several time AS SSD benchmark for the SSD Disk. the write/read speed is about 1800M / 900M, which should be 3000M/ 1000M. My OS is install on the only disk I have, which is the SSD SSD plextor m9peY 256GB. I know that there're many reason making the performance not so good, but 3000 / 1000 to 1800 / 900 is a lot of difference. What may be the problem? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Aug 2018 01:51 AM PDT So recently I bought a new Dell Inspiron 5570 and ever since, I've been having audio issues with. The main audio drivers, Realtek one, gave me audio crackling while watching videos and was more noticeable when different audio sources were playing. The second audio, the windows default one, stop this issue. However, when audio isn't active, a popping appears as if somebody was plugging in and out headphones from the audio jack. I've looked every where online on how to resolve and found no avail for a perfect solution and hope to find it here My laptop specs are: Intel Core i7 8550U 1.80GHz 8GB DDR4 Intel UHD Graphics 620 120GB SK hynix SC311 m.2 1TB Seagate ST1000LM035 [link] [comments] |
Question about Chrome Downloads saying many of my files are deleted after hard shut down. Posted: 29 Aug 2018 03:48 PM PDT Had to do hard shut down when desktop folder was open (the folders I had on the desktop where not open thankfully). I checked my downloads in Chrome. It says many have been deleted yet when I check for the files in the folders I have on my desktop, they are still there. Is this a glitch or a mistake or what? I mean I'm glad my files are all still there but I'd love to know why it says the files are deleted on Chrome Downloads. [link] [comments] |
I done goofed and destroyed the AC adapter to an external drive. Would love some advice. Posted: 30 Aug 2018 01:18 AM PDT I have this G-drive external that I use for back up whose AC plug I destroyed in a pretty embarrassing way purely due to my own carelessness. Just in case it's relevant: I live in the EU but it was bought in NA and uses a Seagate 4TB inside. The specs of the AC adapter I destroyed: Asian Power Devices Inc. Model #: WB-18D12FU Output: 12V @ 1.5A I have been having an impossible time finding anything to replace it so I'm really hoping someone could offer some guidance on how I could get this thing up and running again. taskmgr, cmd, regedit "cannot be found" + driver/laptop crashes Posted: 29 Aug 2018 10:43 PM PDT [Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga running Windows 10] Yesterday, my tablet driver crashed. No biggie, it's finicky. Box popped up saying "Windows cannot find ISD_Tablet.exe" Restarted my laptop. This warning now appears at startup, including the Wacom program saying the tablet driver is missing. I try opening task manager. It, uh. Can't be found either: https://i.gyazo.com/54535176a17cdcdad505040ab5692c6e.png Okay, let's try command prompt to- oh. Okay, that's also missing apparently: https://i.gyazo.com/2594c03c91c64bbdccffbb40e4ce0f04.png Maybe just reinstalling the tablet driver will fix something? Hey that won't even install now. rarsfx0/setup.exe can't be found now? https://i.gyazo.com/dd79d97146ccb5912a36e281057a4070.png Avast (free) didn't find any viruses, or malware I'm assuming? Backed up my important files just in case though. Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm really not tech savvy, and I rely on this laptop for work. [link] [comments] |

Blue yeti microphone has static when disabled as the default audio device Posted: 29 Aug 2018 10:28 PM PDT I've recently been having some issues with my Blue Yeti (non-pro) microphone, where it has been picking up static every time it starts recording. This only occurs when I disable the blue yeti as the default audio device and choose to instead play audio through my computer's audio jack. When audio is being played through the Blue Yeti's audio jack the static goes away entirely. This has been tested on two other computers, with another cable, and the issue persists. I cannot tweak anything with the blue yeti using Realtek Audio, as it has its own drivers. Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this kind of issue, and how I would go about fixing it? Posted: 30 Aug 2018 04:08 AM PDT HD Tune screen shot: http://magaimg.net/img/61he.png I have approximately 300gb of data I need to pull from it. About 200gb are video files and they are transferring at a steady 1.39mb per second, but the more important old work files ranging from word size files to some larger spreadsheet, PDF and photoshop files are taking crazy long. When I try and move or copy the files from the drive, it took over 2 hours to 'discover' 17,000 items at about 7gb and then started transferring at about 16-80KB per second before after about an hour of copying barely anything, said it cannot read from the source. Is there anything I can do to give it one last kick of life so I can get the files off? I tried rebooting in safe mode, but that gave the same kind of results. Windows tools Chckdisk and defrag/optimize did nothing either. HWinfo64 shows warning. I've managed to do small files one at a time okay, but there's 1000s of files. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Aug 2018 12:15 AM PDT I found an old ASUS P5SD2-VM MoBo(really old) an ancient one if I must say and recently noticed that there's an update to it's bios. Unfortunately, the parts that came with it doesn't have it's floppy disk anymore which will be needed to flash the bios update. So, is there anyway to flash the bios via bootable USB? How do i do this? (domain, subdomain, vps) Posted: 30 Aug 2018 03:53 AM PDT Hi, So i have set up a server on a VPS server that i acquired through google. I also have a domain name setup which is pointing towards it. On the VPS i have a game server running on port 25565 and i have a administrative tool for the said game server running on port 8080 My question is. Is there any way i can setup so that i have a subdomain that points towards the port admin tool running on port 8080? example: admin.example.com which points to example.com:8080 I have tried fiddeling with apache and a bit of nginx, but i just cant get it to work. I have setup 2 ANAME records one without a name and the other one called www pointing to the ip of the VPS This works perfect for the game server and i can join with the domainname however making another ANAME pointing to that IP and the trying to use apache to redirect to IP:8080 or with a CNAME record point to example.com and then once again trying with apache to redirect to IP:8080 I have tried for hours and i am close to giving up. Does anyone know how i can get this working? [link] [comments] |
