New comptuer for engineering student Posted: 02 Aug 2018 12:23 PM PDT I need a new computer for college and will be an engineering student. The laptops that I am thinking about are the Lenovo yoga 920 or dell xps 13. I'm not sure which one to get; if I got either are they both great laptops for engineering? Also, do the hinges on 2-in-1s eventually get loose? [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 Aug 2018 02:00 PM PDT I am helping my sister pick out a laptop and I have it narrowed down to these two. Both are about the same price, and almost same specs. She plays Civilization, but not really any other games. But is the throttleing due to heat on the 7570 going to make the 5577 the better option? And she doesn't like the red keyboard of the 5577, though I think it can be turned off. And the IPS screen of the 7570, is it better or worse than the 5577? The 7570: The 5577 (according to google) : Thanks!!! [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 Aug 2018 12:10 AM PDT A week and a half ago, after way too much research, I finally pulled the trigger and purchased a MSI GS65 (with a 1060). It arrived 3 days later, and I've been using it for a week now. I am a audio post production professional, and this machine needs to be my workstation while on the road. It is replacing my 2011 MacBook Pro 17" which I'm very sad to say goodbye to. The MacBook was always a bit too large and heavy for me to carry around though, so I wanted a 15" laptop that was light but still powerful enough to run the extremely processor intensive programs I use every day. First off: the build quality. Obviously comparing anything to a 2011/12 MacBook isn't easy because they're built like tanks. That said, the GS65 it's really well built. It's just so light, yet I feel completely comfortable throwing it into my bag. My unit definitely doesn't have the flex that a lot of reviewers on YouTube were seeing. The keyboard is really excellent, and that's even compared to the MacBook, which is my all-time favorite for typing. Key spacing is perfect, and it feels so natural to type on. The trackpad is ok - I generally use a mouse, so it's not that big of a deal. If you're used to a apple trackpad, the GS65's feels terrible in comparison. My unit's screen definitely has backlight bleed around the camera area, but for what I do, that was never an issue - the screen is really great in general, colour is accurate, 144hz is super smooth, and those thin bezels are lovely. One thing that was very important to me was the headphone amp, and this machine has one of the best I've heard for high impedance headphones. I honestly don't feel the need to carry around a DAC with me, which saves a whole lot of weight and space when I'm travelling. Battery life is also really decent for a machine of these specs (6+ hours of browsing, 2 hours of hard usage). Performance wise, this machine really handles whatever I throw at it. The 6 core processor is a beast, and heat seems to be handled well even when using it on my lap. The fans spin up under load/export, but i set up an advanced fan curve that works perfectly for what I need. CPU temps seem to stay below 85°c even when gaming, and I haven't even undervolted yet. The fans are actually really quiet compared to my old MacBook which was really badly ventilated and got ridiculously hot (even after a re-paste and cleaning out the fans). I'm not a massive gamer, but I enjoy playing pubg with friends. The 1060 is perfect for pretty much any game available right now, so that was never any worry to me. It also runs the 4k external monitor at my studio perfectly, so it does everything I need. It took me a while to get used to windows again, but I'm really happy with it now. Dragon center is a great way to control the hardware, there's a hotkey that brings it up on screen, and it's simple to use which is great for me. I didn't feel the need to do a fresh install of windows as it ran problem free right out the box - all I did was completely remove Norton and a few other prices of bloatware (seriously, why is candy crush pre-installed on a high-end gaming laptop?). Overall, I'm really impressed with this machine - it's really excellent value (I could almost buy 2 for what a MacBook Pro costs in my country) and the performance is well beyond my expectations. Very happy with my purchase. [link] [comments]
Cheap but good quality gaming laptop Posted: 02 Aug 2018 12:41 PM PDT Hi guys, I am currently looking for a laptop to get me into PC gaming. I am on a budget but I will take quality over price if I really have to. There isn't a specific type or build I'm looking just a good gaming laptop that will last long. [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 Aug 2018 12:05 PM PDT I'm thinking of getting this laptop from the dell outlet but I've heard the screen only goes up to 170nits. I don't care that it's tn or that it's color inaccurate, especially since it's only $350. i just want it to be about 210nits or if I can replace the screen with a better one. [link] [comments]
What is the best laptop to game on? Posted: 02 Aug 2018 12:02 PM PDT I'm looking for a good gaming laptop with a price that isn't too high. I want to play games like Fortnite, PUBG, Battlefield 1, and Sea Of Thieves. My budget is $2,000. I would like a GTX 1060 or better and a screen with good color accuracy. I don't want it to be too heavy, and I prefer a 15.6" laptop, but 17" would be fine. Trackpad doesn't really matter to me because I'd use a mouse. I want a laptop that would give me good FPS (60+). Please give me suggestions. [link] [comments]

Is there a software to make a laptop stop using a non-removable battery? Posted: 02 Aug 2018 11:54 AM PDT I have an asus laptop with a swollen battery I think since the touchpad is lifted slightly I can't stop using my laptop and don't have the money to replace the battery right now. so is there?. Should I get a Dell Inspiron or Acer Aspire? Posted: 02 Aug 2018 11:44 AM PDT I'm deciding between a Dell Inspiron 17-5767 and an Acer Aspire 5 A515-51G-5504. I'm not a techy person so I have no idea which one would better for my daughter. She's a teenager and plays some video games and watches some YouTube and She'll be doing some school work. Looking for a slight upgrade to HP Stream - ideas? Posted: 02 Aug 2018 11:37 AM PDT I'm trying to find a computer that is a slight upgrade to the HP Stream. I don't need anything really powerful, but I do need a bit more than the Stream can offer. Any ideas? [link] [comments]
Alternatives to Dell G3 15 (1060 version) Posted: 02 Aug 2018 11:14 AM PDT I have been looking up reviews for the Dell G3 15 (with the i7-8750H and 1060 Max-Q) and worried about the thermals, poor screen, and wifi card. However I like the aesthetics of the laptop because it is relatively light, thin, and has a non-gamer look. I also prefer to have a full keyboard with a numpad and be futureproofed with the Thunderbolt 3 port (on the 1060 version). For me in Canada, the G3 with the 1060 costs around $1600, being a student, I get 10% off so ends up costing around $1450 before any sales. Most other thin and light gaming laptops like the MSI GS65, ASUS GM501, Aero X15, is out of my budget (costing around $1900 to $2500). I am hoping to get something that can last me another 4-years at least. I may look into waiting until next year for the new Nvidia laptop GPUs. Are there any comparable alternatives to the style and price of G3?

Posted: 02 Aug 2018 06:52 AM PDT Hi fellas For a budget of max. 2500 euros, are there some valid alternatives to the xps 15 with 16B ddr4, 4k display and 512GB ssd.? I'm mainly looking for a good display for visual work (resolution & color accuracy), an entry level dedicated GPU (not for gaming) and a proffesional looking build. Portability is a nice bonus for me since I travel a lot with it. Otherwise I think I'm gonna go for the XPS, but I want to orientate myself well before I make the purchase. I'm open to any platform really, but I've calculated an apple tax of 1200 euros for a similarly performing MacBook pro, so naturally that is a big no-no :) PS. Since I live in the EU, MateBook x pro is sadly not an option. Cheers [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Aug 2018 06:50 AM PDT Hey all, I need to get a new laptop for school, but I also want it to be able to run some casual gaming. I play Rocket League and WoW, and am interested in which laptops I should look into. I I currently see the Dell XPS 15, Razer Blade and MacBook Pro as good potential options, but not totally sure. I don't want a big, bulky gaming laptop as it's for school too. Any thoughts? Don't really have a budget so any prices are fine. [link] [comments]

Origin Eon15-S - new TongFong GK5CN6Z chassis but much lighter at 3.4 pounds Posted: 02 Aug 2018 05:47 AM PDT https://www.originpc.com/gaming/laptops/eon15-s/ Any ideas on how is so light when all the other brands have it around 4 pounds? Also, looks like they are using a bigger 56wh battery now. [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Aug 2018 09:27 AM PDT I'm torn between two laptops. One has an i3-8130U paired with a MX150 and the other has an i5-7200U paired with an 940MX. I will be using the laptop for university and more specifically game development. For development alone, the CPU is far more important. The thing is that I can't decide which is better. The first laptop I mentioned has newer components and the second one is more dated. Help me decide. [link] [comments]
Laptop for Restaurant work, around £500 Posted: 02 Aug 2018 09:26 AM PDT Hi all I'm after a laptop for our family run restaurant. Stuff we would do is Browsing the internet, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft Office apps. What is the best laptop for this that is under £500? Used is Ok too. Posted: 02 Aug 2018 09:21 AM PDT Hi does anyone have the 2018 refresh of the HP envy 13 with MX150? I am interested in the temps under normal load and during light gaming, if anyone has benchmarks i'd be very grateful. Additionally any recommendations for sub 15' laptops with MX150 and good thermals will be appreciated. [link] [comments]
Heads or Tails: MSI(GV62 8RD-200) or HP (15-cx0030nr) - Which one would you choose? Posted: 02 Aug 2018 09:20 AM PDT Hello there Reddit folks, I'm on an Amazon laptop hunt that has spanned about a week. I've finally come down to two options. They are both at the same price points and have nearly identical specs. It comes down mostly now to build quality, brand reputation, and Optane Memory vs SSD. The first laptop is the MSI GV62 8RD-200 at $799 with the following specs:
Link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D4ZML7M/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 The second laptop is the HP 15-cx0030nr* at $799 as well with the following specs:
Link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07C6WRMC1/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 They are both very similar which is why I'm not sure which one to choose. I've heard a lot of bad things about HP computers. MSI seems to have the upper hand here. I'm hoping to use this new laptop for gaming and for school work here and there. So, which one would YOU choose? I'm pleading to the collective intelligence of Reddit to help me decide. Eager to hear your responses, TFC *It should be noted that this model also comes with an Optane Memory model instead of the 128GB SSD for the same price. [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Aug 2018 09:01 AM PDT I have an Alienware 15 (yea I know I'm trash yadda yadda) and I have a serious overheating issue. games run perfectly max settings but I get random shutdowns quite often and the laptop gets really hot. I have a cooling pad now but that doesn't seem to do much and my dads convinced the fans don't need cleaning but I still will this weekend. Anyone have any good suggestions to decrease core temps? The laptop has a performance mode but that just puts the fans on max and it sounds like a jet so I'd rather not use that if possible. TLDR: anyone got suggestions to keep core temps as low as possible whilst gaming? (I have a cooling pad under it already) [link] [comments] |
