Multiple windows of same apps across desktops

    Posted: 31 Aug 2018 07:26 PM PDT

Hi all, does anyone know if there is a way to automatically open a new window of Adobe Acrobat on Windows 10? I find myself using the multiple desktops feature quite often, and if I open a .pdf, it automatically opens it in the preexisting Adobe window in another desktop.

Why do Microsoft Store Apps update so frequently?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2018 10:00 AM PDT

There's never a time I launch Microsoft Store when there's no pending update, is it important that I keep the latest updates of all apps I have? Also, I don't have that many apps, just basically the bare essentials.

    updated my drivers

    Posted: 31 Aug 2018 06:16 PM PDT

So I was losing so much FPS on CSGO and I didnt know what was going on and I tried everything except updating my drivers. There was nothing left that I could do to boost FPS so I said fuck I will update my drivers. I went from 140-150 FPS to 330-340 FPS after updating my drivers. Note to self, always update your drivers...

Why didnt I update my drivers? I thought it was fine tbh so I didnt bother. I ended up updated something like 20 drivers.

Windows 10 Insider - Suddenly not activated

    Posted: 31 Aug 2018 05:15 PM PDT

    Hey all,

I just recently started having an issue with windows 10. I've been part of the insider program with free access to windows 10 builds for a few years and my main PC just started telling me that windows wasn't activated and my license would expire soon. Has anyone else experienced this? I find it strange that it just started happening in the past few days after using insider builds on this computer for more than a year. Any help would be appreciated.

Mouse and keyboard don’t work in installer

    Posted: 31 Aug 2018 11:00 AM PDT

I'm installing Windows 7 on a PC for a friend, but the mouse and keyboard stopped working as soon as I got into the install screen. I have checked, I am using USB 2.0 ports.

Everything is deleted from my account, but it’s still on my hard drive? Help?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2018 01:12 PM PDT

I logged into my account today on Windows 7 and it wouldn't log in. It sat on "Welcome" for over six minutes. I turned the computer off and on again, logged in and got a pop up saying that I have been logged in with default profile, etc. Almost EVERYTHING is gone from my account. Pictures, videos, documents, settings, etc. I didn't do anything the last time I was logged on and everything was running normally.

However, everything is still on my computer. If I go to Local Disk>Users>My name, everything is still there. It's just not going into my account and I have no idea how to fix it. It's like my computer randomly decided to reset my account to 'New User.' My account is the administrator account.

Dell desktops with Windows 10 stuck at Dell logo screen after installing Windows updates

    Posted: 31 Aug 2018 12:52 PM PDT

For the past few months, we have noticed that when the updates for Windows 10 gets installed, some PCs will be stuck at the Dell logos screen. We usually have to use System Restore on them to get them back up and running. Does anybody know what updates are causing the issues?

Reclaiming Windows Tax on new laptop in UK

    Posted: 31 Aug 2018 07:01 AM PDT

I bought a new HP laptop (Windows 10) from the HP store, I'm in the UK, I haven't accepted the EULA yet. Am I able to claim a refund of the Windows tax? I wasn't given any option of choosing Linux or no OS when I bought it and now I am being asked to accept the EULA so I feel this is the time to exercise my consumer rights.

Is there a way to get the windows clock (from the taskbar) to stay open on the desktop? (i.e. to stay up if I click elsewhere)

    Posted: 31 Aug 2018 01:28 PM PDT

I just want to do some loose timings and any digital clock (e.g. the windows taskbar clock that appears by simply clicking on the date/time area of the taskbar) with seconds will do but if I click on something else the windows clock goes away.

Windows Update error - please help!

    Posted: 31 Aug 2018 03:02 AM PDT

So I ran Windows update to install two new updates. One was some security for flash player, and the other one was something to do with virus in Windows Defender.

I started it and left my computer, but when I came back, my brother was playing Fortnite on it. Turns out he restarted it (while it was still at 0% during the flash update, the security update hadn't begun yet) and now I can't update them.

It gives me the error code (0x80073712) and tells me to try again later.

Did he brake my system? Can I do something about it?

    This is on an XPS 15 9570, 4k, 512SSD, 16GB Ram and 1050TI Max-Q

Thanks to everyone for any input in advance!!!! :)

What's the best Windows for my machine?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2018 11:25 AM PDT

OK so my hardware is a little old:

    Core 2 Quad Q8200

    ASUS P5P43TD

    12GB (3 x 4GB) Corsair DDR3

    Radeon HD 5770 1GB GDDR5

    3 x 7200rpm HDDs

I currently have Windows 10 installed. I feel like performance could be better. What version of Windows would you recommend for my hardware? I'm a creative professional, a techie, developer and a gamer (GTA Online & Skyrim) I'm looking to squeeze more FPS out of my games - 156 processes in Task Manager just seems excessive. I've disabled the 'Windows search' service and unchecked the 'allow ... to be indexed' option on each of my hard drives but OS performance still seems below what I would expect with 12GB RAM. Windows 8.1 seemed faster - or am I just imagining things?

Should I move to windows for my next laptop?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2018 08:46 AM PDT

So basically I've only used MacOS on my computer since I first got a laptop 6 years ago. I have experience using windows at Uni for my engineering classes but it's always felt clunky and slow to me, even on our stupidly powerful workstation desktops when compared to my base spec MBP. The things I appreciate the most about using a Mac laptop is the trackpad, being able to text from my laptop, the handoff of safari from my phone, and the overall operation I'm used to when using a Mac. The few times I've used a windows laptop I felt disconnected and like I couldn't use the machine to its fullest.

I'd love to be able to get the sort of comfortability and efficiency on Windows that I've had on Mac but I'm not sure how to get to that point.

I am at a point where I need a new computer and I'm stuck between the 15" MBP and a dell precision of similar spec and price. I'm afraid I'll hate the precision for the reasons listed above. Should I make the plunge and learn on the fly or should I go some other route of getting used to windows before I go full send?

Any help would be appreciated, I'd love to not be tied down to Apple anymore I just need help getting there.

    Enabling app startup in background?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2018 08:28 AM PDT

I do know how to set an app to run on startup, but what I was interested in is if there is an option to run the app on startup, but in the background, without the app window popping out every time I boot up my Windows?

    Thanks sincerely.

    Removing text on desktop icons

    Posted: 30 Aug 2018 08:27 PM PDT

Does anyone have a method they would like to share that easily removes desktop icons' text? I know there is the renaming with Alt+255 method, but that can be very inconvenient when there is over 20 desktop icons.
