    Android messages widget

    Posted: 30 Aug 2018 09:04 PM PDT

I just got the new messages update and can't find the messages widget. I was wondering if it was something they removed or something just affecting my phone.

    Wiping Lost Samsung S8

    Posted: 30 Aug 2018 12:53 PM PDT

A week or so back on a run, I found a Samsung S8 by the side of the road. The battery was dead and it was under some dirt and stuff so I assumed it had been there a while. I contacted the sheriff who said they could do nothing, and T-Mobile, who told me that they could get the number for the phone using the device ID, but could not get me in contact with whoever owned it (???)

I put an ad on Craigslist saying it was free to whoever could unlock it, and got no responses. The phone had no notifications when I turned it on, and the SIM seems to be deactivated.

I figure I have done all I can to return this phone, but I am open to suggestions.

That being said, I am now trying to reset the phone for my own use or to sell. However, as I'm sure you know, factory reset protection is enabled by default, and android 8.0 security patches took care of most work arounds.

I have Odin and am familiar with its rooting use with some of my own devices, but I have never used it to bypass factory reset protection. I have found loads of guides, but none of them include combination files Odin has been able to install, and hours of googling hasn't given me any results.

    It is a G950U from T-Mobile.

I understand this seems quite suspicious, but if anyone could let me know of a solution I would be grateful

    Turn Off Notification Clumping?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2018 06:37 PM PDT

Hi there, I have the J7 Sky Pro (6.0) and I was wondering if there was any way I could shut off notification clumping? I hate how all of the notifs (if there's two or more) clump into one notification, it's very annoying.

Terrible mistake done - need some help here

    Posted: 30 Aug 2018 11:44 AM PDT

    Hello everyone,

I made a terrible mistake with my Galaxy S8+, I have downloaded a mod and since then I started receiving many ads and my phone is opening the speakers during calls without even activating the speakers' button (to turn it off, I have to click on speaker button to activate it, then click again to deactivate it).

To resolve the issue, I did the following:

    1) I have stopped the mod and cleared the cache and the data then uninstalled the application. However, there was no any improvement and still receiving many ads and speakers self-turned on during phone calls.

    2) I installed Avast and run for viruses. However, no virus was detected and situation still not improved.

I know my ultimate solution is to do factory reset, but I don't want to do that right now.

If there is any way to resolve this issue, I will be thankful for sharing.

    My phone details:-

    Model: Samsung Galaxy S8+ SM-G955FD

    Android Version: Oreo 8.0.0

Weird random noise on my phone

    Posted: 30 Aug 2018 05:29 PM PDT

Lately I've been having a strange thing happen. Once in awhile I'll hear what sounds usually like some kind of loud music for a few seconds while the phone is asleep. I see no notifications, it just goes away. Last night I heard it twice while I was sleeping. I haven't installed any new apps lately that I can think of...

Oddly, I googled this and saw some older threads of people talking about the same thing happening but no one had an answer.

    Any ideas?

Total Control of the Android Phone

    Posted: 30 Aug 2018 06:49 AM PDT

    Hi,

I am wondering if anyone knows how I might achieve total domination over my device.

Here is my vision. I turn on my phone, and only a terminal/bash shell opens up. I can program and run whatever scripts and shell programs I've written. And also I can access calling, texting, and email if I'd like.

However, I'd like these features only to be available after some sort of conditional branching. Say, Terminal prompts me, "Hello, psilocyborg, DID YOU EAT YOUR VEGETABLES TODAY?" And a Y leads to my desired app while a N leads back to the terminal.

I have many other plans, but can you tell me if such control over an Android exists? Or, if I could install a linux distro and have what I want, texting/calling still included?

    Thank you

PS I have a Samsung S8, if this matters

If I share Google One with my family group, can we all see what's in each other's drives or is it still individual?

Just want to make sure that everybody's stuff will stay private before I turn this feature on.

    Extremly bad Battery Lifetime

    Posted: 30 Aug 2018 10:21 PM PDT

    Hell there,

I have an extremly poor battery life with my S7 as with all my other android phones before. I'm nearly at the poinjt of changing to IOS, but I haven't lost hope just yet. Maybe you guys can help me.
So my problem is, in normal mode my phone only lasts about half a day when in light use and a whole day when not touched. But when I'm in flight modus the battery lasts so much longer. More than it would be common for flight mode. It was like that with all my android phones to this point.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Need Help Hard Resetting Sony Xperia S LT26i

    Posted: 30 Aug 2018 06:30 PM PDT

My little brother played around with the phone for a while and he managed to change the code and tells me he "doesnt know" it, this is my mom's phone and she just gave up after reading 1 thing online that told her to do "Volume Up+ Power Button"

I myself have been trying to unlock it for at least 2 hours and cant seem to find out what to do, i of course dont have access to anything past the pin code screen and all of the things i've tried to do havent given me the screen where it asks me to hard reset it, i've tried Volume Up + Power, Volume Down + Power, Volume Up and Down + Power, Volume Up + Power + Camera button, etc, and none of it did anything, is there any way i can unlock it?

How do I unmap inputs when I connect my XBOX One Controller to my Android Tablet?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2018 10:11 PM PDT

I'm having a hell of a time figuring this one out and it is a bitch to google. I keep getting forwarded to raspberry pi pages.

My issue is simple. My XBOX One controller is bound to global system commands. My main annoyance is that the back button is bound to the back button system function.

So when I am playing Super Metroid all is going well except when I press the select button to switch my weapons I instantly get booted to the home screen.

I am using an XBOX One S controller and a Galaxy Tab tablet.

If you had an iPhone in the past, what made you want to ditch it and move to an Android phone?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2018 08:19 AM PDT

I decided to ditch my iPhone 6S because I felt like it was slowly becoming a paperweight and iOS did not want to work correctly with my computer (which is a linux machine).

    Settlers 2 Dosbox on Note

    Posted: 30 Aug 2018 08:49 PM PDT

Has anyone here played Settlers 2 via dosbox on a Note phone? How well does it play? Does the stylus work as a mouse? I'm debating on making a switch to Android and this is one thing I would love to do, as well as use any live-tile like launchers!

    Help fix my headphone Jack!

    Posted: 30 Aug 2018 08:42 PM PDT

Hey guys! I have recently been having problems with the headphone jack on my Samsung galaxy s6 edge, as sometimes only one side of the earphone plays audio (left side). However there are some days where the headphone jack will play audio on both sides and some days it will only play on one side (only the left side).

Here are some things i have tried which have failed to fix the problem:

    -Trying different pairs of earphones.

    -Resetting and restoring my phone

-cleaning the inside of my headphone jack (removing lint and debris)

Also note that i bought this phone from a re seller (used) and the audio played on both sides when i first got it. Also there hasn't been any major damage to the phone (no major drops) as of today. Something i noticed (which could be part of the problem) is that the phone's audio doesn't play through the headphone jack when i plug in some earphones. To fix this I've used an app (Soundabout) to control the phone's audio output through the headphone jack.

Phone used up all my data volume and showed an error

    Posted: 30 Aug 2018 02:19 PM PDT

So my LG G4 was turned on over night and suddenly used up 1.1 GB of my data volume and my whole battery while I was sleeping. Whenever I wanted to check my settings, an error occurred. I don't remember the text anymore but it showed something like "Oops, an error has occurred!", a rabbit and two options whether I want to see the error file or to skip it. Skipping would just lead me to a black screen and then the error all over again. The error file showed me that the source of the consumption was PicsArt, an app nobody could use 1GB on. When I deleted it, no more errors appeared and everything's fine now. I'm just curious if anybody has an idea how that happened and why my data volume is gone. I haven't found anything on the web.

Help me bring my Razr Maxx back to life!

    Posted: 30 Aug 2018 09:38 AM PDT

I found my old XT912 in the closet yesterday and I hope I can get some help to get it back up and running. Have some old pictures I'd like to recover. Here is what has happened and what I have tried since I found the phone last night:

    • Tried turning on, no power or anything to indicate it works. (phone was in a dry, cool closet for about 4-5 years.

    • Plugged micro-usb cable into 12W Apple Charger and left it plugged in overnight to the wall outlet. A white indicator light turns on when I plug in the charger and stays on for a while, not sure how long though.

    • Woke up this morning and tried powering it on. Nothing happened. I tried holding the power + volume up combo, power + volume down, and power + volume up and down. Nothing.

    • Arrived at work and found a coworker with a charger and plugged it in. Decided to try turning it on while the white indicator light was on. The white line boot up intro comes on then goes away each time I hit the power button. At one point I even managed to see the red Motorola symbol but haven't been able to replicate it.

I've looked into ordering a factory cable but I'm not sure if it will help. Any ideas?

2 quesitons: Android flagships & Whatsapp data migration

    Posted: 30 Aug 2018 02:13 PM PDT

    Hello,

Apple user since 2012 and my two-year phone contract with my 7+ has come to an end. I'm due an upgrade any day now, but I'm putting in on hold just to see what everybody releases.

I'm up to date in the Apple loop, but have absolutely no clue as to how, say, Google and Nokia release their phones. To be honest, they're the only two companies I'm interested in. I think my choice will come between the new Pixel or this rumoured Nokia flagship -- if it even will exist.

So yeah, do they have an event or something -- like Apple? Or do these phones just appear on the market all of a sudden.

I love keeping my data, and my messages are no exception. Obviously my SMSs will stay on my iPhone that I'm going to put in a draw somewhere; and FB Messenger will carry over no problem.

My worry is Whatsapp -- my most used messenging app. It backs up to iCloud on Apple; but via Drive (I think) on Android. Is there any way on God's Earth that my iPhone Whatsapp data can be transfered onto my new Android when I venutally join the family?

Thanks for reading. Suggestions much appreciated.

Lockscreen notifications only in status bar

    Posted: 30 Aug 2018 08:14 AM PDT

[SOLVED] So, I got an S8 and managed to put the album art of the music that I'm listening on the lockscreen with kwlp. The problem is that whenever I get a notification, it overlaps with the image, and I was wondering if there was a way to make the notifications appear at the status bar instead of the lockscreen. Can someone help me with this?

    Switching from iPhone to Android

    Posted: 30 Aug 2018 07:29 PM PDT

Im thinking about switching from iPhone to android (LG G6 to be specific) to just switch things up and try something new. Ive been using iPhones and apples ecosystem since the iPhone 4 ( I also use apple music, and a MacBook Air as well). I have heard that apple music has an android app, but would Spotify be a better pick on android? I listen to a lot of music and this would be an important factor. Ive never really used android before, so i dont really know what im getting myself into. Also, do you guys have any recommendations / tips for making the switch?

Hide notification from notification bar but show up in notification drawer

    Posted: 30 Aug 2018 03:42 PM PDT

Razer Phone, Android 8.1.0, T-Mobile, stock

Pre-Oreo (7.1.1, I believe), my VPN client had a persistent notification "widget" in the notification drawer that gave me some information and a couple toggles. Because this widget was always present when the service was running, there was no need to have an icon for it appear in the notification bar; it would only appear if there was an error or if I "paused" the VPN. Again, the notification was always present in the notification drawer, but would not display an icon in the notification bar.

Right when I updated to Oreo, there was an icon in my notification bar for the app, and I cannot find a way to get rid of it without getting rid of the notification entirely (meaning it no longer appears in the notification drawer where I want it).

Did the way this is handled change with Oreo, and my VPN client needs to implement a fix? I just cannot find how to fix it myself. Any help is appreciated!

How to know if someone reaches out my phone?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2018 03:37 PM PDT

Hello everyone, I use a LG G3 (With Android 6.0) for more than 3 years. Eveything was ok since its motherboard died eventually, and it's a chronic problem for g3. Even in its final days it can seem useful to me, I appreciate its services. But for one or two months, some odd things are happening, like it gets really slow down at night times and occasionally, it clicks the things that I didn't want to do so. At first it seemed insusceptible to me, I thought that it's the mainboard failure. But ten minutes ago, I was hanging around the Aliexpress app, I went back to the home page and I saw there is a green, one pixel border on my Contacts icon and which sunddenly disappeared again and made me think more paranoiac.

I'm a security-aware user, I never connect to dangerous (porn or that kind) sites as far as I remember, I never rooted my phone and some a few person could touch my phone. But there's one thing that makes me wonder about it: a couple months ago, my aunt's husband was cheating on her -or at least there was an attempt- and then my cousin told me that he used a spy-ware to observe his dad's phone. We lived together for 3 months with my cousin and one ore two times he used my phone. I think it's him.

Is that possible to know if my phone hacked? Or its just me being paranoid?
