1440 hours to unlock Redmi Note 5 bootloader

1440 hours to unlock Redmi Note 5 bootloader

Crazy, right? I have no idea why I have to wait 1440 hours when everybody else has to wait 360 hours max.

Does anyone know which factors determine the waiting time? So far I already tried with 2 different mi accounts, and also flashed the developer ROM, but it still gives me 1440 hours.

There's no way I'm going to wait 2 months. Are there any workarounds or things that I could try that might decrease the waiting time?

ELI5: I got a Whyred a few weeks ago, everything is awesome... so why should I use a custom ROM?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2018 12:48 PM PDT

    Hi guys,
As per title, a few weeks ago a got tired of my iPhone 6+ which had almost become unusable - most apps would take up to 30 seconds in order to launch, battery life had decreased dramatically and so on. Instead of buying an iPhone X I decided to pick another phone - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 (whyred).

Bought it on amazon, no problems at all for like 6 weeks so far. I unlocked the boot loader, but I have not decided whether I actually need to change to a Custom Rom. I mean, some apps are a nuisance (I simply hate that weather app, and I prefer using Chrome to the MIUI browser) but still this is not that big of an issue.
I had taken some interest in PixelExperience, but in the end I could not find anything, besides the GCam and maybe a little longer SOT, which would really provide a QoL change.

So.. can you explain like I'm 5 why I should get rid of MIUI and use PixelExperience (or any other custom rom)?

    Thanks!

Redmi Note 4 loops to logo

    Posted: 30 Aug 2018 08:42 PM PDT

Help! Woke up to find my phone dead. Put it in the charger and it just kept looping to the Mi logo. Now when I try turning it on it loads to the logo, then restarts again to the logo in a continuous loop. I've never installed a custom ROM before - will it help to try now? I can get to Fastboot but nothing else. Any advice on what to do???

Silent mode completely blocks calls from registering

    Posted: 30 Aug 2018 10:21 PM PDT

I have a huge issue with my redmi note 5. The phone doesn't have a default vibrating mode, so i set the phone into silent, and then use "vibrate phone while on silent".

While this bypasses that issue, it also entirely blocks calls from coming in, AND I can see that the option exists to fix it, but it is "greyed out"

If i put the phone in DND, then I don't get any vibration during texts, but if my phone is silent then I don't receive calls.

Anyone else have this issue and found a workaround?

    Phone isn't rooted, running 7.1.2

How does silent and DND mode work?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2018 01:18 PM PDT

I have a Mi Mix 2s on MIUI 9. I cannot figure out silent mode to save my life.

Here is what I want (coming from stock Android).

    • My phone to ring and vibrate most of the time.
    • A mode where it is vibrate only (preferably with an icon in the status bar so I know it's on vibrate mode at a glance)
    • A mode where there is no ring or vibrate at all which automatically turns on at 11pm and turns off whenever my alarm goes off or at a set time in the morning. Again, an icon in the status bar is important.

This is all possible on stock Android but I just cannot figure it out on MIUI.

I can use silent mode with vibrate enabled for the vibrate requirement.

I planned on using DND for the truly silent mode including schedule, but calls still make noise , even if the DND option to allow incoming calls is 'none'. Interestingly, if the screen is on, the call comes through silent, but when the screen is off, the call rings at full volume.

Also annoyingly, if I just keep my phone's ringer off, switching to DND mode actually turns it back on!

It is really getting to me how hard MIUI is to use. Why would anyone design these controls to work so confusingly. I would really appreciate any help anyone can give with this issue.

    Pixelated video

Anyone else having this problem? All videos (Instagram, Mi Video, YouTube etc) are oversharpened and blocky. Same video looks different on the phone (Redmi 6, MIUI 9.6.14) and on the computer/other devices. Notice how different the outlines of the fonts and facial features are on the left (Redmi).

PSA: You need to give more information if you want help.

    Posted: 30 Aug 2018 01:32 AM PDT

There are plenty of posts on here asking for help in 12 words or less.

Most of the time, it takes a number of hours for OP to clarify basic questions. If you want people to help, you need to help yourself.

    The Problem

    • State the problem?
    • Detail the issue?
    • When did the issue occur?
    • How long have you had the issue?
    • Have you made any changes?
    • Has anything changed recently? (environmental, software, hardware) Even if you think it's irrelevant, say it.
    • What have you tried so far?
    • Any error messages - full detail

    Device Details

Settings --> My Device --> All specs (its much easier if you just screenshot the page)

    • Phone Model

    • Stable/Beta/China/I don't know
    • Official? EU? another rom?
    • Rooted? If yes, how?

    • How long have you owned the device?

    • where did you buy it from? (from the back of a truck, ebay, aliexpress, mi store)

    • How long have you had this ROM?

    • When did you last upgrade?

    Battery or Charging Issues:

Settings - Battery and Performance - Battery Usage - Battery Use

    • Screenshot - Hardware
    • Screenshot - Software

Click "clock" in the top right hand corner

    • Screenshot this history page.

    • What charger are you using?

    • What cable are you using?

    • Have you used a different cable?

    • Install Ampere and tell us what it says, does it change over time?

Redmi 5 Plus - MIUI 9.6.5.0 = HDR Bug? (pics)

    Posted: 30 Aug 2018 03:31 PM PDT

Okay so today I got an update to Oreo and the camera app has changed.

I tried taking low light HDR shots tonight and I noticed that the "viewfinder" shows me the image much brighter than the final result in the Gallery, and the difference is quite big. Check the pictures.

https://i.imgur.com/msH273m.jpg - This is what I have in the gallery.

https://i.imgur.com/dLBng91.jpg - This is what I see for a brief moment, after taking a shot and the 1-2 second HDR processing.

Now I am not a MENSA genius, but isn't my picture supposed to look like that screenshot? The gallery image looks as if it was taken with HDR off.

I should probably mention - HDR works fine indoors or when the scene is not very dark.

Cstark27 stable Gcam for Redmi Note 4

    Posted: 30 Aug 2018 01:45 PM PDT

Cstark27's brilliant "adaptive shutter speed" for low light photography revolutionised the Redmi Note 4 for me but when I upgraded to Lineage 15.1 I couldn't find a stable version which works consistently.

Has anyone found a GCam which has any type of adaptive speed shutter function or a stable version of Cstark27's?

    Thanks all.
