Laptop for Front-end Dev Under 1300$ Posted: 30 Jul 2018 02:11 AM PDT
1300$, SEA region
I think first priority is specs, then battery life
I work on the go so I prefer a light weight one to bring along with all of my stuffs.
Windows
~15 inch, 14 seems good too
I do programming and also design graphics UI using Illustrator and Adobe XD. Also some Lightroom because of photohraphy hobby
Work only, not gaming
I want a reliable build which can last for 4+ years
I did some research and thinking of getting a laptop with gen 8th Intel cpu. Most options in my budget range only have 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD. I'm not sure if it's enough for my work and future proof (next 4, 5 years). 256 SSD may be not a big deal if I use cloud storage but is 8GB RAM ok? Hope I can hear some advices from you. Thanks alot! Posted: 30 Jul 2018 01:57 AM PDT I was wondering if anyone with more technical knowhow would be able to advise on which combo would work better for A: Everyday web browsing and some Photoshop B: Moderate gaming Any advice given would be greatly appreciated [link] [comments] |
Suggest a gaming laptop >$2000 Posted: 29 Jul 2018 11:33 PM PDT * **Total budget and country of purchase:** Less than 2000 USD, preferably around 1500 USD * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.** I want a laptop that won't overheat as much. I don't really care about 2-in-1 or battery life. * **How important is weight and thinness to you?** Not important. * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** Windows. * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** around 15 inch * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.** League of Legends, steam games occasionally (Witcher 3, GTA, etc) * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** stated above. Medium to High, above 60 fps. * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?** Good keyboard and reliable build quality would be nice. I don't need touch-screen, finger-print reader, and optical drive. * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.** A nice design would be nice. I was thinking of buying alienware but I wanted to see if there were better options. Thank you for your time and consideration! [link] [comments] |

Looking for a good quality first laptop to take to University Posted: 30 Jul 2018 04:29 AM PDT
Around £1000, happy to go slightly over but would prefer to keep it as close to £1000 as possible. Will be purchased in the UK
Good Battery life and Best specifications are the two priorities, I'm not at all bothered by it being a 2 in 1
Not very at all, happy to have a ticker heavier laptop to get better value of course having a lighter thinner laptop would be a welcome feature
Windows
At least 13 inches or above
Would be used to Edit photo and video occasionally, It would also be nice to be able to run a few games on it like Rocket League but most gaming would be dome in my desktop.
Rocket League, maybe Rainbow 6, would be playing at medium to high and I'd aim to reach as close to 60fps as possible
None
As said Im happy to compromise on most things if it will be of benefit [link] [comments] |
Laptop Podcast Streaming 1080p 60 FPS (No Gaming) Posted: 30 Jul 2018 04:26 AM PDT Thanks in advanced ive been researching for days but cant make sense of what I should get... I have a rough Idea about the specs but could use some actually laptop suggestions. Total budget and country of purchase: - around $2,000 is acceptable, less hopefully........Im in CHINA but can buy it next time im in USA.....CHINA or USA Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Best Specs, just needs to do its job reliably, I have a surface pro 4 for personal use. How important is weight and thinness to you? I live nomadic lifestyle now and travel abroad indefinitely, So I would prefer smallest size but wouldn't sacrifice specs or pay a huge premium for it. Itll be sitting still most of the time and I can lug it in my suitcase when moving, I have my Surface Pro for day to day carrying around when needed. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. I prefer windows but would learn Mac if needed. I USE OBS for streaming so would need to be compatible. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A... Im actually open to buying a Mini-PC with no screen... Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Yes, Light video editing on lightworks, but more importantly I need to stream live video at 1080p 60FPS... Sometime will lower FPS and stream to multiple website if my locations bandwidth allows it....(Podcast streaming from webcam, no gaming) If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? No gaming, just video/audio live streaming using OBS at 1080p 60fps preferably. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Nope. the less unnecessary specs the better, I just need a computer that can encode video fast enough because my Surface pro 4 cant do it. And a reliable wifi connectivity Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Me and my girlfriend both make a living streaming so I dont want to get a computer thats constantly maxing out its CPU on Turbo? I read thats bad...... i think Anyway... thanks alot ive been researching for days but just going in circles....Not sure If I need to get a gaming PC or if I can get something cheaper because I dont know if I need that great of a graphics card.... THANKS OBS Required SpecsNot sure what FPS or resolution they assume but this is the bare min for OBS. Im guessing they assume 30fps with these specs but im hoping to reach 60fps. If 1080p 60fps is not reasonable in my budget or for a laptop I would like to her my best options. OBS Required Specs Below

Need a laptop for college and gaming under $800-ish Posted: 30 Jul 2018 04:06 AM PDT * **Total budget and country of purchase:** I live in Malaysia and my budget in Malaysian Ringgit is RM3000 which is currently worth US$739.56 and 564 GBP. I'm not sure if that helps but at least it's something. * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? I don't really want a 2 in 1. I just want a traditional laptop. Good battery life is useful. Anything above 6 hours and I'm happy. * **How important is weight and thinness to you?** Thinness isn't a big deal. But the laptop must be light, I will me walking around a lot so I need it to be portable. * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** Windows 10 please * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** 14-15 inches will be perfect **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.** I will be gaming. Being able to play games like GTA 5 and fallout 4 would be a big plus. Any AAA games at slightly lower settings will do **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** Like I said above AAA games at lower settings(obviously not to low). Anything above 20fps will be great * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?** I kinda want a ssd. I also need it to be reliable, this will probably be my laptop for the next 3-4 years. But other than that nothing else really. * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.** To be honest I'm really out of my depth here. I know nothing about laptops(I don't even know if I can get anything at this budget realistically), so I really do need help. Do ask if there are anymore questions. So far based on my own research, the Acer Swift 3 and the Asus Vivobook S15 seem like the best choices, but I'm not sure and am open to more suggestions. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 29 Jul 2018 02:10 PM PDT After posting this request, I concluded on buying the Dell G7 15 inch model. Once I got to the store however, it was a bit of time since posting and I was able to raise the price range I was looking for. Alongside the Dell, I saw this MSI Stealth on sale and I was able to buy it for $1,399 (with only factory warranty). Its been 7 days since purchase, and I'm starting to notice that the laptop cpu overheats a bit between 76 and 90 degrees. (I've been running Cities: Skyline and Endless Space 2) I also returned the first laptop I received as it had issues loading video (but not audio) on youtube videos and gifs on reddit. My question is: Was this laptop a good purchase for the price or should I aim for a different computer? I'm a bit skeptical of this laptop. Ive heard good things about MSI, but I also know someone who returned their MSI laptop (Stealth Pro) for repairs twice in a year. Also, no one I know believes in Dell enough to tell me that the Dell is a good product. (I plan to use this for gaming and programming, extra details can be found on my previous post.) I am looking for a good at everything laptop Posted: 30 Jul 2018 03:19 AM PDT
What I value the most is the best specs and good battery life. I also want to do a bit of gaming
I don't care too much about weight and thickness
Windows or mac OS
13 or 15 inch would be fine
I will be doing some light video editing and a bit of fortnite gaming
It just needs to capable of running fortnite at 60 FPS and at 1080 P
It will need to be quite strong and a fingerprint reader would be nice

Laptop to last me throughout university Posted: 30 Jul 2018 02:50 AM PDT * **Total budget and country of purchase:** In the range of ~£500, England. Willing to go a bit above or below of course. * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.** Something that runs snappy and should last as long as possible without slowing down. I'd prefer something that isn't a touchscreen. Battery life is a complete non-issue. * **How important is weight and thinness to you?** Not at all * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** Windows * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** 13in+ minimum, though the larger the better. Would like it to be a 'standard' aspect ratio as well (basically not 1366*768, but this isnt a deal breaker * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.** Little to no gaming. Mainly to be used for typing/browsing. Other software used include photoshop/discord/ableton/occasional video editing. * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** As before, almost none. Only potential games include VNs, and some on emulators (like JJBA) * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?** Want it to last as long as possible- the ability to upgrade it down the line would be nice. At least 2 USB slots minimum, 3 preferrably. * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.** I'll be purchasing this for university. So far, I was thinking of getting a thinkpad for this purpose. If its something quiet, that would be really nice as well. Won't need it for note taking and other light stuff since I have a surface for that - was just thinking of getting one as more of a workhorse. [link] [comments] |

Lightweight laptop for coding, browsing and some design work (no GPU needed) Posted: 30 Jul 2018 02:04 AM PDT
Backlit keyboard is a must. The screen must be color accurate with decent brightness. I'd like a 256GB SSD. An SSD and HDD combo (like 128GB + 1TB HDD) doesn't work for me since I'd to dual boot. 1920x1080 is enough screen resolution for me.
I'm a coder and do graphic design. I don't need a GPU. I do need an 8th Gen i5 Processor with 8GB of RAM. I should be able to add another 8GB of RAM in the future with another stick. [link] [comments] |
