Posted: 01 Jul 2018 03:38 PM PDT I've looked it up and every direction for disabling S mode is to open the microsoft store and type in 'switch out of S mode', but the option doesn't appear for me. Any other ways to do so? [link] [comments]

Posted: 01 Jul 2018 07:03 PM PDT It was a 500GB drive to a 500GB SSD, but the SSD was a hair smaller, so I couldn't just clone the whole disk. I have not actually tried to boot it yet, but I have good reason to believe it won't boot. I just threw the boot flag on there with GParted, but I don't think that will do it. I'm going to try to boot it now, and I'm hoping someone will have some tips if it doesn't work. UPDATE: Well, that was weird. In my BIOS screen, I pressed the button to choose my boot device and selected the SSD, but it booted up the old hard drive anyway. Interestingly, that's not even the default boot device; my Linux drive is! Is it possible that trying to boot off of the SSD instructed Windows to load from the other channel and partition? The contents of the SSD are a direct clone of the original drive, so maybe the first few sectors... I dunno know what I'm talking about.
Seems maybe I knew what I was talking about. That link goes on to explain that the two disks will have a different Disk Signature, so that even if I moved the SSD to the original channel, it wouldn't help. It then says to do a sector-by-sector copy of the whole disk, which I unfortunately can't do because the source disk is larger. I'm going to try removing the old drive and using the same channel anyway. Now I got a blue screen saying I need to use Windows Recovery. That makes some sense, so I'm booting up my Windows DVD to run the recovery. Well, that was no help. Running the "fix boot problems" thing just said, "can't help you". I wonder if it's because the first bootable drive it encountered was my Linux drive. Removing that and trying again... Still no go. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Jul 2018 09:55 AM PDT Hi everyone, So in the past few days I have a problem with a shortcut. Because I have two Screens I use the combination shift+windows+arrow key a lot but since a few days my whole pc freezes if I use it. I can still use my cursor and I can see different models of the cursor which means I can still do stuff but it doesn't show me correctly. The sound is also still intact. I already did the newest windows updates but it still occurs. Is there a way to fix it? Thanks for every attempt helping Nerowinger [link] [comments]
Windows 10 Dilemma, Do I Upgrade Now?!?! Posted: 01 Jul 2018 10:16 AM PDT Hey everyone here is my Dilemma, I bought my laptop 5 years ago. It is a disaster at this point and I could go for a good reformatting. It has some old version of Windows 7 a friend put on for me in 2013 or 2014. It is currently having USB power surge issues when my keyboard is plugged in. I'm not sure if this will fix it or not? It seems all my trouble shooting attempts are failures. I also find it just starts slow and doesn't run as smooth. I'm willing to pay if the update will provide a better experience. Is it possible for myself to download and pay for a copy of Windows 10 from the Microsoft website, download it to my external hard drive, and reformat this myself with just the internet? Also is this a good idea? Please feel free to unload information below, I know nothing of the current state of Windows. Thank you! [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Jul 2018 05:32 PM PDT So I currently play a game that requires a lot of ram (Star Citizen 16GB minimum) and I need as much as I can get. Is there a program I can download that would only let some apps like my game, discord and a few other processes run. I know I can do this with the task manager but I am wondering if there is something that can let me just switch between preset modes for ease of use. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]

After getting into automatic repair I try to reset but every time I get a "unable to reset this pc" message. Tried loads of videos but none work. I'm currently unable to create external media. Posted: 30 Jun 2018 09:06 PM PDT I loved and promoted autohotkey for far too long. But after actually trying to write code in it , and use it extensively I realized that its syntax is far too convulated for my liking. Any alternatives ? [link] [comments]
Seeking fix for cursor misplacement when playing games in windowed mode Posted: 30 Jun 2018 08:40 PM PDT I've got a 4K monitor, so whenever I play old games I generally have to scale the resolution down to 1080p and play in windowed mode for the UI to be legible at all. However, when I do this and then enlarge the window to fill the screen, all of the interaction fields for the game's buttons remain in the top left corner of my screen (as if the game was still in its original 1080p window). Is there any way to fix this issue so my mouse cursor interacts with things properly? I've already tried adjusting the resolution to 1080p in my display settings, but this doesn't work. (Playing in fullscreen will not work either, as the game just stays in the top left corner.) [link] [comments]
