basically the title, i tried looking at the official site, but Google Translate is kinda terrible and the descriptions themselves aren't that clear. I wanted to buy the tablet, but the 4GB/64GB version is $270 with shipping, which is way to much for what it is imo

Has anyone put a bigger battery in their Mi5?

    Posted: 28 Jun 2018 02:08 PM PDT

My phone is getting close to two years old and I plan on keeping it for a while, so I want to replace the battery. I was looking on AliExpress and they have 3700Mah third party batteries, but I'm not so sure about them. Has anyone got one? I will probably just get the original battery, but I thought I would ask first. It would be nice to have a bigger battery.

Can the Mi A1 be expected to receive the 8.1 update in a couple of days?

    Posted: 28 Jun 2018 08:32 AM PDT

From what I've read 2 weeks ago, the update is in testing with the June security patch, and we still haven't received the June update yet. Is this a sign that we'll get it in 2-3 days, since June is almost over?

Mi In-Ear Headphones Pro 2 review

    Posted: 28 Jun 2018 05:55 AM PDT

Xiaomi has recently released the second generation of the In-Ear Headphones Pro, commonly known as the Hybrids and I picked them up from AliExpress not too long ago. For 99 CNY (~15 USD) I did not expect to be blown away but they turned out to be the best earphones Xiaomi has ever released, an astonishing sequel to the Hybrids.

    Packaging

The company decided to release these earphones in a transparent plastic box that is both light and small, closely resembling the packaging of former audio products such as the Mi Bluetooth Audio Receiver or the Mi Noise Cancelling Earphones. Some of Xiaomi's earphones in the past were also inside of a more robust, plastic gift box, but the In-Ear Pro 2's don't come in one, presumably because of the lower price tag. Just for the record, the original In-Ear Pros didn't come in one either so I'm not that surprised.Through the front, we can see the earphones and the remote control sitting in a paperboard while the specs are printed on the back in Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and English, as expected. The package contents won't stagger anyone, apart from the earphones themselves we only get a user manual and three pair of silicone ear tips in various sizes. The microfibre pouch that shipped with the In-Ear Pro HD's and the ANC earphones isn't included either. The user manual details the button functions on the remote and provides additional regulatory information.

    Design, build quality and comfort

The second generation has got an all-new, black design that looks not only more elegant but perhaps also somewhat cheaper in my opinion. There are no bright, silver elements incorporated into the design anymore and the CD pattern on the housings got replaced by a mirror-like finish as well. Speaking of the housings, thankfully they retained their sandblasted look and feel from the In-Ear Pro HDs and they got a more balanced shape that is neither too angular, nor too rounded, but slightly smaller in diameter compared to the predecessors. The remote control has not changed a bit from the first Hybrids and as such, it's made out of metal and features three buttons, as well as a built-in microphone, meaning that you can use these earphones as a headset. The wires between the housings and the Y splitter are still made of TPE, but the braiding returns from the Y splitter down, and I say return because the In-Ear Pro HDs didn't have braided wires at all whereas older Xiaomi earphones did, including the Pistons, and many people weren't happy about that change so their return is very much welcomed. The last noticeable difference can be seen on the plug, as it is an L-shaped one, made of plastic as opposed to the straight, metal ones Xiaomi has mostly gone with in the past. Build quality is satisfactory, there isn't as much metal as before so these earphones might not be as robust, but their superior sound quality makes up for the loss in high quality materials (see later). They weigh 14 grams, which is 3 grams less than the Pro HDs and exactly as much as the original Pros.Xiaomi's earphones have always excelled when it came to comfort and the Hybrid 2's are no different. The earphones sit in my ears firmly and thanks to their light build I'm barely noticing wearing them. I'm getting a great fit and seal too, using the default, medium sized earbuds. The three pairs of extra ear tips are sized extra small, small and large, so I'm sure everyone's going to be able to find the optimal size for their ears. Noise isolation is average, it isn't any better or worse than before and it's obviously far from what active noise cancellation provides but as I mentioned in my reviews of the ANC earphones, noise cancellation isn't worth twice or thrice the price for me, personally.

    8/10

    Sound quality

The original Pros were super bassy earphones. Bass was marvellous and a lot of people loved that aspect of them but it absolutely overpowered the mids and highs, which resulted in an overall bloated, muddy sound signature. Additionally, mids lacked energy and clarity and highs were often too sibilant (piercing to the ear). The Pro HDs ended up biased towards the other end, the highs, giving its users an undoubtedly bright sound signature. The soundstage got wider, mids and highs were loud, clear and detailed but there was little to no bass which truly disappointed many fans and sibilance has only gotten worse.Thankfully, Xiaomi managed to take the best of both "worlds" not just in design but in sound signature as well and create earphones that are improved in almost every way over the predecessors, so sound neither too bassy nor too bright, perform well in all genres and hopefully cater to everyone's taste. The soundstage is the widest and most detailed it has ever been, even better than on the 3.5mm ANC ones which I highly praised for their sound quality. The lows are superb, almost identical to the Pros' lows, they're clear and deep, yet contained, bass lovers are going be satisfied. The mids are also great, they aren't as highlighted and vibrant as on the Pro HDs but they aren't suppressed or muddy either so I am pleased. Highs are decently loud, explicit and definitely more enjoyable than before as most of the sibilance is gone, therefore providing a more pleasant listening experience. It's overall more balanced, pleasant and detailed than anything else Xiaomi has ever created. The most excellent successor to the Hybrids. Period.

    9/10

    Verdict

It is extremely hard for me not to recommend these earphones, especially at this price point. Xiaomi executed these earphones outstandingly well, they're selling them for 99 CNY in China and you can get them for less than 20 USD from third-parties online. They are definitely Xiaomi's best earphones thus far, beating even the 3.5mm ANC ones which offered the best sound quality up until now in my opinion, for about 50 USD. Consequently, I don't really mind the cheap packaging, the absence of a pouch or the somewhat cheaper looks. Considering that the In-Ear Pro HDs cost more, these are an absolute bargain. If you liked either of the Hybrids, you should get these and if you are an avid fan of Chi-Fi, they will contest even the best earphones around 20 USD, like the C630 or the KZ ZSR.

Buying Redmi Note 5 Pro in Shenzhen

    Posted: 28 Jun 2018 12:05 PM PDT

    Hi all,

A friend of mine will be visiting Shenzhen for 3-4 days and wants to buy a Redmi Note 5 pro (3/32) while he is there.

What would be the best way to buy it in Shenzhen in terms of ease, price and availability? Online or by visiting a physical store? Where is the physical store where RN5P will be readily available?

    Thanks

    Standby battery drain - R5+ on 9.5.6.0

    Posted: 28 Jun 2018 03:02 PM PDT

Is 1-2% per hour common with Wi-Fi on, Data off, and IG/Whatsapp/Messenger running in the back?

My biggest software drain is "Android system" and has been for a couple of months. I feel like I had better standby battery life in the first two months of usage. I'm happy with my SOT, it's just the standby drain that bothers me.

    Does D2TW drain extra battery?

Editing build.prop causes a bootloop. (Redmi Note 5)

    Posted: 28 Jun 2018 06:02 AM PDT

    Help!

I am trying to activate Camera2api on my Redmi Note 5 for Google's HDR+.

I managed to enable C2api with Xiaomi_ADB_Fastboot_Tools_2.2.2, and I can use Google's amazing HDR+ camera, but there are times when it suddenly stops working and shows me a "Camera has stopped" error message, and rebooting doesn't help so I have to reuse the tools to reactivate c2api. This is tedious because I have to use it with a PC.

I wanted a more permanent solution, and tried editing build.prop myself through different apps, (ES Explorer and Build Prop editor), even following this guide that uses the PC instead of an app.

However, I only get bootloops with each attempt to edit the build.prop manually. Oh, and one observation I noticed while I used the tool to activate C2api was if I viewed the build.prop and searched for the string, "persist.camera.HAL3.enable=1", I couldn't find it.

More details, in case they can help:

    • I have TWRP and have a backup I restore every time I get a bootloop

    • My phone is rooted with Magisk, and using different C2Api-enabling Magisk modules doesn't seem to help

    • I am running stock MIUI Global 9.5 | Stable (9.5.13.0 OEIMIFA)

    • I am using BSG's MGC_5.2.022_v2 mod.

Hope you can help, r/xiaomi. Thanks a lot.
