My windows 10 got deactivated after installing the last update Posted: 01 Jun 2018 03:55 PM PDT Hello, for the record, I have a hp pavilion with Windows 8 that I bought in 2013, I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and then Windows 10, I have probably 2 or so years using windows 10 and everything was going well until the last automatic update, when all the updates were finished I restarted my laptop and I realized the annoying watermark of "Activate Windows" was there. I was confused because my Windows is original and I don't understand why it got randomly deactivated. I didn't make any hardware change, any help? [link] [comments]
Two desktop folders & two pictures folders but no public folder Posted: 01 Jun 2018 04:54 PM PDT I've somehow managed to come up with two desktop folders within my folder hierarchy that when clicked on point to c:\users\name\pictures. This has moved all of my picture files to the desktop (well, both "desktops"). At the same time, the Public directory seems to have completely vanished. Does anyone have any idea what could have happened or what I could have done to possibly cause this and what needs done to repair it? [link] [comments]

Inherited multiple PCs with a wiped HDD. What is best option for re-installing Windows OS Posted: 01 Jun 2018 05:43 PM PDT I just inherited 16 PCs but the hardrives were wiped so there is no OS. Im seeking the best option to get a Windows license on each. Is there a place/site I can buy licenses in bulk for a discount? Would burning an ISO and using the product key on the hardware work? Free/Open-Source package managers for Windows? please share your experience. Posted: 01 Jun 2018 12:57 AM PDT Due to the nature of my work I have to use different operating systems on daily basis. I use my mac at home, Ubuntu at lab and Windows in my office for CAD. I'm not against Windows and I think there are a lot of good features making a very good OS. Except there are no good package managers. See, on my mac I use HomeBrew for almost all of the libraries, packages and software. Same on Ubuntu with apt-get. But for the love of god I can't find a good package manager for Windows. There are a dozen of them out there:
Chocolatey is probably the most famous one, Scoop tries to be a replica of Homebrew for Windows, and if I'm not mistaken OneGet was adopted by MS to become NuGet for .NET package management. I would appreciate if you could share your experience with any of these. What are the advantages and weaknesses of each. Or if there are any other options out there to consider? Thanks in advance. P.S. Apparently the relationship between OneGet, NuGet and Chocolaty is complicated and what I said is not true. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Jun 2018 03:12 PM PDT I have a windows 7, 64 bit. It is genuine. This message always pops up and it's super annoying. Does anyone know how to get rid of it? [link] [comments]
Windows 7 User Account Control Issues Posted: 01 Jun 2018 10:02 AM PDT To start the post the following issue is not experienced with UAC disabled. When I turn on UAC on a specific Windows 7 Pro SP1 fully patched machine it creates an issue with the Network Icon in the System tray saying it's not connected. It is connected to wifi and etehrnet. I Open up "Network and Sharing Center" to see whats up and no adapters are listed. I tried to run ncpa.cpl to manually check the adapters and it won't open. I've checked the permissions on services and DLL's on netprofm and netman with another computer and they match another machine that is not having these issues. I've spent 2 days on trying to fix it and it cannot be re-formatted due to a one time key for some specialized software on the platform. I've also done a SFC /Scannow and tried a DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth but this command will not run. One day I'll get my affairs in order and upgrade all my machines on the network to using windows 10 but until the budget comes through I have to suffer through odd issues like this. Posted: 01 Jun 2018 07:04 AM PDT I'm having issues with Windows Media Player entering my computer into Power Saver mode which essentially restarts my machine. This is a fairly new issue as I've used Windows Media Player before without any hitches on this particular work station. I've run check disk commands and all that to see if I can identify the issue that way. I'm gonna try seeing if it's an issue with my profile next but figured I'd post here to see if anyone knows of or has any idea of fixes for this issue. Thanks! [link] [comments]
PC crashes every two days.... Win 7 issue? Event Viewer pictures included.... Posted: 01 Jun 2018 03:36 PM PDT First here are my specs: -Intel i5 Core 6600k Unlocked (Hyper 212 EVO cooler) -Gigabyte Z270X U-Gaming motherboard -Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 -16gb (2x8) Ballistic Sport DDR4 memory -CD/DVD-DL/Bluray Lightsribe writer -650 Watt Corsair Power Supply -x3 1TB HDs (WD's) -Win 7 (64) -Razer Chroma Keyboard -Dell Gaming S2716DG Monitor So I'll try to make this as short as possible. I built a new rig over a year ago. But over the last two months I've been having this weird issue where I'll go to use my PC and everythings lagging about 6 seconds. It happens about every 2+ days. When it happens its usually after I go to get on in the morning for the first time. I've checked the Task Manager (eventually after it pops up) and the CPU and memory are fine, barley used. No proccess is using much memory. I've ran scandisk, defraged it, ran virus scans, updated everything I can think of, updated the BIOS and other things too. I've even reinstalled some things. The S.M.A.R.T. stats show my three hard drives are at 100% "health" and have no issue. I am guessing maybe its Windows but I am not sure. I do not want to reformat, I'd rather reinstall Win 7 over itself (or repair?) if possible. As as a last ditch effort someone told me to post some of my Event Viewer logs online and see if anyone could help since I don't fully understand the logs. Here are two pictures of the logs. Including some of the errors/warnings that pop up. A common one is the Intel related one. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Jun 2018 06:08 AM PDT As the title says, I want to upgrade my pc with an SSD but I'm not sure if I can install and activate my original copy of win 10 if I already did that on my current HDD drive? [link] [comments]
portable OS to install and use any program in portable mode? Posted: 01 Jun 2018 09:22 AM PDT ok, I'm facing this issue: I'm working on several machines that are differenta and where I'm not always allowed to use program I have for personal use (meaning that they can't install a program where I have a personal license, for working purpose). But this would make my life so easier if I could find a way to use those programs without having to bring my personal pc... so i'm looking if there is a way to install my programs on an usb driver/hard drive... I'm thinking that maybe if I install an OS on my usb then I should be able to use the programs I've installed on...right? I know there is an Ubuntu portable version... Is there someone that can help me? thanks! [link] [comments]
Impossible to clean Install win7 Posted: 01 Jun 2018 06:00 PM PDT Hi folks, So I was on win7 pro 32bits and I bought 16gb of ram. Now time for me to install win7 pro 64 bits. The installation does not even start, as soon as the dvd boots, I get a crash and computer reboots. I have been searching for a solution for a week, so here is what I have tried :
BIOS And now I don't know what to do. [link] [comments]
Can I buy Win10 Enterprise Boxed? Posted: 01 Jun 2018 10:26 AM PDT I realised earlier today that I've never opened a copy of Windows and installed it from the official disc. I run Windows 10 Enterprise because my work let me use a licence for my home computer, but can I buy a single copy of Windows 10 Enterprise – just the disc, not a key – to install from, or will I always have to burn my own ISOs? Windows 10 setup skipping the Microsoft account sign in - straight to local account Posted: 01 Jun 2018 08:10 AM PDT So I just installed Windows 10 on my new Asus laptop using a USB stick made with the media creation tool to get rid of bloatware. It never gave me the option to use a Microsoft account, only a local one. I was connected through wifi. Windows was also successfully activated. It's not really a bad thing I suppose I'm just not sure why it happened. Does anyone know? Weird thing is I used that same usb to install windows a few days earlier and it just did the usual Microsoft account thing. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Jun 2018 05:00 PM PDT So basically I was installing Ubuntu on my external hard drive, I swear it said that it was installing on that, but apparently not. It is my installed 2 versions of grub on my windows disk. Windows still works fine, I just don't know what partition(s) to delete. If this would help. Edit - I'm not sure if this is the right sub for this, or if I should post it in r/Ubuntu [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Jun 2018 04:34 PM PDT So I've tried googling but I keep getting crap about normal advertisements that I already have disabled or how to stop windows updates. I keep getting these pop ups telling me about windows family stuff and how to set it up. I don't need this nor want it. Is there some hidden setting area far away from other advertising settings to turn it off? Win10 Pro [link] [comments]
Antimalware service executable hogging CPU while extracting files Posted: 01 Jun 2018 07:14 AM PDT Has anyone experienced this? It is disrupting my workflow. I have already disabled scheduled scans via Task Scheduler, yet somehow the service still comes up every now and then. [link] [comments]
Disable Windows Defender blued/greyed out Posted: 01 Jun 2018 03:17 PM PDT It's in bold blue text and I simply cannot click on it. I really need to disable it - yes, I know what I'm doing and have absolute zero need or use of Defender Firewall. Why is it doing this? My brother had the same problem on his PC and it is blocking games and softwares from running and accessing the internet. Help fixing this greatly appreciated. [link] [comments]
Request: Program to allow installation of Windows 10 without USB or CD Posted: 01 Jun 2018 02:08 AM PDT Heyo all, today I got trapped in the situation of somehow lacking a CD/DVD and also a large enough USB to install a 64-bit version of W10 onto a 32 bit install of Windows 10 Pro. I have storage devices for things like drivers, I just want a way to jump from 32 to 64 bit without needing external storage. Weird as it is I lack money for a large size USB and an optical drive. How to uninstall apple junk from windows 10? Posted: 01 Jun 2018 01:39 AM PDT I don't use windows, my partner does and is frustrated by apple updater and all the apple software on the device. I click uninstall and literally nothing happens. How do I sort this out? I'm used to ubuntu and figured there must be some commands I can enter at the prompt but for the life of me all I seem to find when I search are links to uninstaller programs which I'm reluctant to download as I can imagine they're just full of spyware and crap. What do I do here? EDIT: found this, I'll give it a try [link] [comments]
