Dell XPS 15 9575 Constant Fan Noise

    Posted: 03 May 2018 02:01 PM PDT

    Hi,

So when I purchased my Dell XPS 15 9575 (2 in 1), I expected that it would run quite hot and loud due to the nature of it being such a thin-and-light machine. I took the steps to undervolt the laptop with ThrottleStop and make the machine cooler, but I noticed that there is a very annoying issue where the fans are running at full speed even when the machine is very cold, at around 30 to 40 degrees Celsius. This only happens when the machine is plugged in. To try and fix this, I tried downloading and using SpeedFan, and set some pretty low fan speeds, but for some reasons, even with SpeedFan open and the machine at around 40 degrees Celsius, the two fans are still turning loudly at over 5000 RPM. I've tried all the recommended remedies online, such as making sure my BIOS is up-to-date and setting the maximum processor state under 100%, but to no avail.

Does anyone have a potential or recommended solution for this issue? I know that the laptop is fairly new so there may not be as much information out as there could be, but a quick Google searched showed that this was also a problem with the Dell XPS 15 9560.

    Thanks!

    Matebook X Pro i5 Vs i7

    Posted: 03 May 2018 02:00 PM PDT

    Hey guys

I wanna buy the matebook X Pro but I'm not sure which model to pick. There is two models available in my country.

The first model cost 1600$ and come with: Intel Core i5-8250U NVIDIA GeForce MX150 (2 GB) 256 GB 8 GB RAM

The second model cost 1866$ and come with: Intel Core i7-8550U NVIDIA GeForce MX150 (2 GB) 512GB 16 GB RAM

Both models comes with Bose QuietComfort 35 (Series II) as gift which cost like a 400$!

Now my question is, is it worth to get the i7 model for 266$ more? My daily usage usually light. Browsing, streaming, office. Not planing to game or edit photos on it(maybe sometime). But I want it to be powerful enough to stream 4K from Netflix for example. Will the i7 model be more responsive and snappy than the i5 model?

    Thank you

ASUS ZenBook UX330UA Vs ASUS S510UQ

    Posted: 03 May 2018 10:03 AM PDT

    Hi guys,

I'm have a difficult time deciding between buying the ASUS ZenBook and ASUS S510UQ. I mainly use my current laptop to program, watch anime and YouTube video. I don't game on it at all. Spec wise there are very similar but it looks like the ASUS S510UQ slightly edges out in terms of specs, but reviews for the ZenBook seem to be more positive.

Any input would be greatly appreciated or if you can suggest better laptops (Max price £700) that would be awesome.

    Aorus x5 v8 or zephyrus M ?

    Posted: 03 May 2018 01:13 PM PDT

    Hi guys,

I'm having a hard time choosing between both. I basically want an 8th gen i7 with a full-size 1070, and those are the slimmest I've found.

Even though the X5 has a bigger battery, I've read somewhere that both last around 3h, since the Zephyrus uses the Nvidia Optimus and the X5 does not.

Which would you choose and why ?

Laptop Specs Advice - 8th gen i5 vs i7 & right Amount of Ram

    Posted: 03 May 2018 08:52 AM PDT

I will be using my laptop for MS Office, browsing, video watching, drawing (no Adobe), note-taking, and want to be able to game with titles from at least a few years ago (e.g. fallout 4, Witcher 3).

Looking at purchasing the Lenovo Yoga 730. Wondering two things: Is there a real difference between the 8th gen i5 and i7 for my needs? Also, the 730 only comes with 8 gigs ram, will that affect me or should I grab the 720 or wait for the 730 to be released w 16 gig ram?

Looking for a new School laptop, what would be best?

    Posted: 03 May 2018 12:33 PM PDT

    • Total budget and country of purchase: Around $1300 max, (Best bang for my buck is preferred though) USA

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Best specs for the money

    • How important is weight and thinness to you? Not very important

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Vectorworks, CAD, Adobe programs, Audacity, some gaming but thats a bonus

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Not a big factor

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Must be good and reliable for lots of working, touch screen isnt very important

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I need a computer for college, I do sound editing, lots of writing, light video editing, and some design programs like CAD on occasion. I need something fast and reliable with a good lifespan.

    PowerSpec 1510

    Posted: 03 May 2018 11:02 AM PDT

Just picked up a used 1510 online, and it looks pretty good. That's about it though. While it is a pretty nice computer, I can't get past the heating issue it has. Now, I've read a few posts about it, and most 1510's seem to top out around 85C. However, mine heats up super quick and after about 10-15 min of running Fallout 4 on High (yes, High, not even Ultra), my GPU hits 90C easily and CPU approaches 95C, even with a 125mV undervolt on the CPU.

What gives? I know this isn't normal, even for a GTX 1070. Will repasting with Arctic MX-4 and reseating the heatsink help? I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty or void the warranty (I'm not near a microcenter). I'm not understanding why temps are so rampant. Is this laptop more trouble than it's worth?

    Thanks

You might want to wait till H2 2018 for 11xx Max-Q series

    Posted: 03 May 2018 02:56 AM PDT

Went across a Gigabyte Aero topic at overclockers.co.uk and one of the gigabyte rep said they were planning to release the next iteration of the Aero after the Nvidia 11 series release.

But most importantly, he said it was planned for end of 2018.

Does that mean Nvidia would still release Max-Q 11 in 2018 and not wait a few months till 2019? He also might be wrong though

I'm really hesitating to wait till September - October to see what happens. We should see a great jump in efficiency and power I guess. Not sure if I'm willing to wait though.

Disclaimer : I am not telling you to wait till it comes out nor telling these news are absolutely right but wanted to let you know about that! :)

    Ordered Aero 15X!

    Posted: 03 May 2018 08:28 AM PDT

Hey guys! I just ordered my Aero 15X from HIDevolution. I'm so excited about this purchase, so I wanna ask fellow users who ordered the Aero 15X from HIDevolution some questions~

    1. I live in Asia, so I'm quite annoyed about the transit time. How long did it take for you guys since order placed?

    2. Did you choose any upgrades? How well did they implement them?

    3. Did you guys undervolt the laptop? Is there an already-installed software that can do that for you?

Thanks guys, appreciate it a lot!

Will the HP ZBook Studio x360 be the best 2in1 released ever?

    Posted: 02 May 2018 09:13 PM PDT

Was waiting for the release of Dell XPS 15 2in1 but the poor reviews totally killed it for me...

Now searching for something else. It looks like HP ZBook Studio x360 is promissed to be the most powerful 2in1. I have no experience with HP at all, so do you think it'll hold it's promisses?

Btw, I'll use for creative work, photography, video, sound editing.

Just got my new Aero 15X v8 Should I return because of this backbleed?

    Posted: 02 May 2018 08:14 PM PDT

Just as a little background I just recently ordered my Aero 15X V8 with the 144 Hz panel from GenTech PC. So far I have been very satisfied. I had great customer support from GenTech and other than shipping issues with UPS, everything went fine. So far I am LOVING the laptop. It has nice thermals, nice performance in basically everything, a likable keyboard and a smooth monitor. My only issue is that when I tested for back-bleed it is definitely noticeable. This is my first laptop I've bought and I've only owned one PC before this but I don't know if I should try to return the laptop or not. I'll post some pictures. Tell me what you think. I don't find it too unbearable unless I am in a pitch black room with the screen on full brightness on a black screen so I don't know what I should do.

out of macbookpros, which one is best for me

    Posted: 03 May 2018 02:22 AM PDT

Hello, I am a graphic design student. I work with Adobe photoshop, illustrator, premiere, aftereffects and etc. I almost use every program of Adobe. I have no intention to play any games on this laptop. My only purpose to work on designs. I can budget any of those macbooks but prefeb I want to pay as less as possible for the best perfermence. I mean I don't want to see overperformance like being able to run all of the programs at once. I hope I am clear. Ps: I have no interest in touchbar or extra storage since I have a 2tb external storage.)

    Can anyone spare some advice?

    Posted: 03 May 2018 01:32 AM PDT

    Hi all,

First time posting here. I'm in need of a little advice if anyone can spare a moment.

I'm looking into buying a new laptop for UI/UX design, I pretty much use most of the apps in the adobe suit (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc) and blender (mainly for product renders).

The problem i'm having is option paralysis. There are so many with the same spec with different prices and to top it off there isn't any real information about screen quality and colour accuracy.

I have a budget of about £900 sterling. Anymore and my wife will kill me!

I've been looking these laptops below:

    • Dell Inspiron 15 Gaming.

      • 7th gen i7-7700HQ - 16GB, DDR4, 2400MHz - GTX 1050Ti, 4GB GDDR5 - £849
    • MSI GL62MVR.

      • i5 7300HQ - 8 GB RAM - GTX 1060 - £892
    • Asus ROG Strix.

      • i7 7700HQ - 8 GB RAM - GTX 1050Ti - £860

At the moment the Dell is the clear winner, but I've seen plenty of mixed reviews about them.

Have any of you guys ever bought one of these, could you share your experiences?

Or could you possibly recommend another machine within my budget?

Thanks for taking the time out of your day to read this and I hope you can help.

    Regards,

    Tato.

Need Help Buying a New Laptop

    Posted: 02 May 2018 07:57 PM PDT

Hello, I am looking for a laptop that I can use for gaming and everyday use. Currently, I have done a little research and the Lenovo legion y520 has matched my parameters to an extent but I would like to know more options and make the best choice possible money and performance wise.

    • Total budget and country of purchase:

India, Budget is 60000 Indian Rupees (approximately 900 US Dollars)

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.

Best specifications for the money. A good battery life is preferable but not a priority as when I am using it at home I will be charging it and let's be honest if I am gonna play games, I have to keep charging.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

On a Scale of 1 to 10 its importance would be 4.

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.

Windows. (Advice on whether I should go for 8.1 or 10 would be really appreciated.)

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

15-inch I think is the standard these days so that much I need and if its possible in my budget without sacrificing specs, a 17-inch would be amazing but I would be more than satisfied with a 15-inch screen.

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Gaming is the prime factor. In terms of everyday use, I use many coding IDLEs which I doubt would be a problem for a laptop made for gaming should have running. I mainly use Brackets by Adobe or Visual Studio.

Games I desire to run on High settings (Ultra would be sweet & ideal. and if possible 60 fps or more) GTA V, Watchdogs 2, FIFA 18 (and upcoming ones), NFS payback

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

As stated Above, Games I desire to run on High settings (Ultra would be sweet and if possible 60 fps or more) GTA V, Watchdogs 2, FIFA 18 (and upcoming ones), NFS payback

    • Any specific requirements such as a good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Build quality. If I am Investing that much I want something that will last me for a good, long time. A backlit keyboard is always nice to look at but will not say its a priority. Hard Drive should be 1 TB or more.

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

This is an elaborate description of my requirements. I would just like you guys to know that I really do not want Hp laptops because I have used one and I did not have a good experience. If you know a laptop that matches my spec requirements but exceeds my budget do link it as I would like to check it and see if I can make changes to it. Every comment meant to help is appreciated

Thank you so much. I look forward to hearing from you guys.

Best place to buy used or refurbished laptops for an affordable price?

    Posted: 02 May 2018 07:51 PM PDT

I'm not looking for anything special. I just need something around 12 - 14" with an i5 and at least 4GB of RAM. I was looking at Dell laptops on Ebay but I'm not sure about spending around $200 - $250 and something be wrong with the machine.
