How do I set my home internet connection to private? /unresolved)

    Posted: 03 May 2018 11:54 AM PDT

Every time I connect to my home Wi-Fi and try to go on Reddit it says "Privacy Error, Your connection is not private"

It didn't seem to be a problem before and has only come up the last couple of days.

    Any tips would be great.

Win10 Ethernet doesn't work, "doesn't have a valid IP configuration," have tried *many* things; PC locks up when I try to modify certain network settings.

    Posted: 03 May 2018 02:40 AM PDT

I believe I have tied a knot too complex to untie. I don't want to try to untie the knot anymore; I want a knife to cut the rope with.

I have PIA VPN on my computer that I use occasionally. Normally, this works fine- I can turn the VPN on and off at will; I can even use the auto-disconnect feature & that all works OK.

For the purposes of everything else I'm about to cover-- the VPN has been turned off & configured to not open or connect on startup.

I have a hardwired ethernet connection to my desktop from my FIOS modem/router. This has stopped working, I just get "Unidentified network" / "no internet."

I've tried some common command prompt stuff.

netsh winsock reset netsh int ip reset

    (think that it worked?)

    ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew

haha no. The command prompt just sticks here and does nothing until I kill it.

    ipconfig /flushdns

And copious system restarts, router restarts, moving the ethernet cable between ports on the router, unplugging / plugging back into PC. There was also a command I was doing where it insisted that a network cable was unplugged, but I don't remember which one that was now.

Anyway, this started a few months ago- and usually I'd bang my head against the command prompt for an hour, restart a half-dozen times, reset the router, and at some point, it would start working (with it not being obvious what the fix was, or if anything I did caused it to work again).

But now, nothing works, it's been a couple days. Running the Windows "fix"-a-majingy returns "Ethernet" doesn't have a valid IP configuration.

I also uninstalled Avast at some point during this process, and googled around for this issue... trying to disable / enable the router, or following some steps found on google, the computer has locked up.

Something is just wrong with my networking stuff. Is there any way I can nuke Windows networking, and start from scratch? I also tried the new Win 10 "network reset" thingy, which, uh... also locked up & wouldn't do anything.

When a window locks up, and I restart the computer, I'll frequently get a blue screen. This only happens after a lockup, not a normal restart. The fact that it says "DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE" makes it sound related, too.

Also, I can connect with a WiFi dongle to the wireless network; but I'm trying to fix the Ethernet connection.

Brand new Dell inspiron 15 3000 Windows 10 - CPU usages peaks out extremely easily - Better explained and Link to Laptop in thread -

    Posted: 03 May 2018 11:14 AM PDT

    Laptop LINK

    Bought the laptop last Sat.

Didn't add any extra software yet

Have tried advice such as increasing the virtual memory to 8 Gb, turning off certain things like suggested apps, etc...

The system still easily peaks out the CPU usage when only having a single browser window open. It does recover down to 20-40% within 10-15 seconds, but even just moving my mouse over the webpage without clicking anything the CPU usage starts to slowly creep up to 100% and then back down if i stop moving the mouse...

    Any suggestions would be appreciated...thanks!

Should I update Intel UHD Graphics 620?

    Posted: 03 May 2018 08:52 AM PDT

I have just reformatted my Acer Aspire laptop and did run a windows update. Windows update includes drivers for my laptop. But the thing is, it installs an older version of it.

in Windows update, Intel(R) UHD Graphics 620 version was from 2017 but in **Intel's support**, it has a newer version which released in this year, and what makes me more confused that there is TWO drivers compatible for my graphics. You may see it here.

My question is, should I install the newer one from Intel or stick with windows update?

If I should, which of the two then?

Computer won't turn on - motherboard is getting power, but very little reaction when I press power button.

    Posted: 02 May 2018 10:23 PM PDT

About a month ago I came home to find my computer off, and unable to be turned back on. I built it a little less than 3 years ago, and have never had a problem.

With the power cord in the power supply all the standard, default lights are on on the motherboard, so I wouldn't suspect it's the power supply - though when I try and turn it on, it seems to get a jolt of electricity (CPU fan light flickers on for a millisecond) and then nothing. To repeat this process I have to turn off the power supply, then turn it back on. I cannot just press the power button on the tower, as it will not react a second time unless the PS is reset. (Don't know if those symptoms are telling of anything, though I figured they were worth mentioning.

Do these symptoms sound familiar to anyone? Could it be a short in the motherboard, or could I have fried my CPU? I don't think it's the latter as I have a top of the line water cooling system that is self enclosed.

Internet cutting out every 20 seconds, ruining Gameplay

    Posted: 02 May 2018 10:05 PM PDT

Title, my internet on my home built gaming pc has been acting up it seems. I am unable to play any online game as it disconnects every 20 seconds. However my GF's computer we just built works perfectly fine on the the same network. Can anyone help? I've updated drivers and anything I can think of already, and reset the router multiple times.

Problem with USB port on laptop

    Posted: 03 May 2018 12:42 AM PDT

    Hello guys,

I have Acer Aspire V 15 Nitro laptop with Windows 10 Home and I have issues with one of my USB ports. I am using different kinds of USB flash drivers (16 GB, 32 GB, USB 2.0, USB 3.0) and also external HDD and what happens is this USB port sometimes detects my USB flash drive and sometimes it does not. So it is sort of up and down situation. Also, if I am using my external HDD in this port, sometimes HDD disconnect itself. But if I plug in to this port USB dongle of wireless mouse, mouse works fine.

The other 2 USB ports are doing fine.

I have reinstalled my Windows recently, have latest drivers and BIOS update from Acer website and it is still the same.

Is there any way, how I can test USB ports to see if one of them is faulty? Many thanks.

    Laptop Crashing

    Posted: 02 May 2018 09:06 PM PDT

    Specs: ASUS GL702VM GPU: GeForce GTX 1060 CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz Memory: 12 GB RAM (11.94 GB RAM usable) Current resolution: 1920 x 1080, 75Hz Operating system: Microsoft Windows 10 Home

Recently, my laptop has been experiencing randomly colored freezes. These crashes load no BSOD, or any form of text, and require me to hold down the power button and restart to resolve. They only occur when my laptop is plugged in/charging, only when it is idling, and only sometimes. It may go a day without crashing and then refuse to stop crashing for a day. I am still able to charge my laptop while it is off, and can still use it off of the battery.

After checking my event viewer, I noticed I was receiving an error, event id 219, The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device ACPI\INT3400\2&daba3ff&0. After speaking to people on multiple tech support discords, and finding multiple threads, I came to realize it was a software issue. I have reinstalled nearly every drive I possibly could on my laptop, I have freshly installed Windows 10, and yet this problem persists. I cannot stress enough that this is not a BSOD issue, no BSOD appears, no text appears, and I'm even able to still see my mouse. It appears to be a driver of some unknown kind failing, and the error log supports this.

If anybody has any additional questions, please contact me on discord, Billcat#7326. I have spent literal days trying every solution I could think of, I've browsed forums, discords, messaged many tech advisors, and even contacted the ASUS company via email (no response) and nothing has worked.
