Posted: 04 May 2018 12:52 AM PDT Hey everyone! Long story short my mom fell for one of those antivirus scams, she didn't pay them what they wanted but she did give them access to her laptop. I know her laptop is totally screwed now but thats not what I'm worried about. They had access for no more than 30 minutes before I cut the WiFi from the laptop. Is the WiFi compromised now? What about all our devices on our WiFi? Are they done for as well? Would getting a new router fix the problem? Did they have enough time do do damage and get into all our devices? Any response is much appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 May 2018 08:23 PM PDT Yesterday we upgraded our internet speed from 200 mb/s to 400 mb/s. We needed a new modem to facilitate this upgrade. Instead of paying $10 per month indefinitely, we opted to buy a modem. However we also needed to upgrade our router so we chose the Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 Wifi Cable Modem Router Came home, get it set up. Internet working fine. I did a speed test on MY computer and I was getting ~10 mb/s. I checked the 2nd computer, that was getting ~440 mb/s. On the 3rd computer it was also getting ~440 mb/s. All three computers are wired connections. So the first thing I did was take one of the working Ethernet cords and test it on my computer. Didn't fix the issue. I went into device manager and right clicked on my Network adapter and updated the driver. It told me that I have the most updated driver. I booted in safe mode with networking and rechecked the speed test. THIS WORKED. Doing this I got the typical ~440 ish mb/s speed Rebooted again NOT in safe mode and it went right back to ~10 mb/s. So what is causing my computer to act this way? All three computers are run Windows. My computer is only about a year old. I can provide more specs if you need. EDIT So I went to add/remove programs and I just started getting rid of stuff that I don't use anymore. Most of the stuff was steam games. One of the things I removed was called "Turbo Lan" by asus or something. I'm guessing it is part of the software that came with the motherboard. I could be wrong, I only know what I'm talking about here like 5%. But anyways, I got rid of that and immediately my speed evened out. Went from the about 10 mb/s up to 432 mb/s. Not deleting in case someone needs to tell me I done fucked up by getting rid of Turbo Lan or something. Or maybe this will help someone else in the future. [link] [comments] |
Hard drive goes up to 100%, crashes games and makes my pc very slow. Posted: 03 May 2018 09:41 PM PDT So I have had this problem since i got my computer about 5 months ago. I got a new hard drive and started on a fresh windows install and I still have the problem. Its usually around 1% but when ever I download a steam game/launch discord/play games, or even sometimes when im doing nothing it shoots up and makes me lag like crazy. Ive already done every fix for high disk usage on windows 10 that i can find on google and it help a bit but its still fucked. usually when it goes to 100% system, Antimalware service executable, or steam is at the top, but no where near using enough of the disk for it to be 100%. Also my hard drive is completely fragmented. I ran CrystalDiskMark and these are the results. I have no clue what this means so is someone could let me know that'd be great.CrystalDiskMark 6.0.0 x64 (C) 2007-2017 hiyohiyo Crystal Dew World : https://crystalmark.info/

My computers specs are : GTX 760 Amd 8350 4ghz with a water cooler 8 Gigs of ram 1000tb toshiba asus m5a97 r2.0 motherboard coolermaster 650w 80 plus power supply Any help would be greatly appreciated this is driving me crazy, I cant play any games and it sucks :( [link] [comments] |
DistributedCOM errors started happening and blue screening laptop! Posted: 04 May 2018 01:30 AM PDT Hey everyone. Really hoping someone can help here. So lately (last week or so) my laptop has been freezing/blue screening and throwing up DistributedCOM errors in the event log. Can't really think of anything I've done to change the system. I use it every day for work, doing more or less the same thing day in day out. The full error is: The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {D63B10C5-BB46-4990-A94F-E40B9D520160} and APPID {9CA88EE3-ACB7-47C8-AFC4-AB702511C276} to the user DESKTOP-UIKEDV2\paulo SID (S-1-5-21-3824262210-585315893-186294190-1001) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool. It's really unsettling as I'm just setting up for a big job, filming, screen capturing and doing voiceovers and the thought of one of these happening in the middle of my work is kinda freaking me out. low fps in games when watching videos on other monitor Posted: 03 May 2018 09:52 PM PDT so i have a gtx 1060 and a duo monitor setup here, one is 60hz and the main monitor is 144hz. when i have a video open on one monitor the game in the other drops fps even though steam says its still running at 200+ fps. minimizing the window with the video instantly makes the game much smoother. what is going on? i think it is not about the power of my gpu but rather how my pc is distributing power but idk specs: gtx 1060 3gb windows 10 intel i7 6700k [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 May 2018 08:35 PM PDT I sometimes like to watch twitch or Netflix on my tablet to fall asleep but haven't found an option that forces it to sleep. All Google searches just reference the default sleep time when you don't interact with it. However when watching Netflix or any other streaming app, it forces the tablet to stay awake, ignoring the sleep timer. [link] [comments] |
Can't Seem to Fix Win 7 After Motherboard Switch Posted: 03 May 2018 09:36 PM PDT I switched out a motherboard from one of my old PC's (last used around 2016), and now Win 7 (Ultimate 64bit) is acting funky. I've long since misplaced the installation disc and I can't install programs anymore. I made an album that goes into more detail: Is there any hope or should I shill $160 for win 10? Posted: 04 May 2018 01:19 AM PDT I can not unlock my phone. Each time I press the power button, occasionally it flashes the unlock screen but then goes dark and I'm not able to do anything. Have managed to restart it, it's still the same. Seems to be triggered off by bright sunlight messing with the brightness settings and then it does this. [link] [comments] |
MMB needing to be held down for clicks to register Posted: 04 May 2018 01:05 AM PDT I'm using a Logitech wireless mouse. It'd work perfectly before, with little if any delay between the wheel pressing down and the desired process, but all of a sudden I'm needing to hold down the MMB for about a second or so before anything happens. The mouse is really old so it might just be the hardware decaying but the mechanisms within the mouse are audibly working as usual, so unless a circuit is fried or something it might be the software (which isn't customizable for the MMB). Posted: 03 May 2018 09:15 PM PDT Ok so the title is just one part of it, just kinda the most mildly amusing one. Whats really funny is i discovered it when the browser would close every time i opened the "what a hacker's Wii looks like" youtube video, then tried accessing it via google search to also see it close, then realized it was the word 'hacker' in a search field or URL name that closed it. Absolutely hilarious to me since this only helped me notice that im hacked, but is obv someones attempt at making the virus harder to remove when someone goes to research it lmao. I noticed i was infected a few days ago when i saw svchost at 50% cpu (on an i5) during idle. That part is fixed now, I downloaded an app that let me see some more details on a specific svchost proccess, enough to see that the 50% cpu one was making a constant TDP connection. So i got a TDP connection investigating tool that showed all current connections the computer is making, and combed through it for anything suspicious, until i found this IP which, when putting it in the browser, takes me to a blank white server page that simply says "Mining Pool Online". Connection was located somewhere in Washington State, across the country from me. The moment i blocked the 'Outbound Port' that that IP was using, is the moment the CPU usage issue ceased to exist. This leads me to believe someone was using my CPU for some light remote cyptomining i guess? Anyways, im still infected w a virus obviously, just its purpose neutered, but all i do on this PC is play games so i havent bothered spending a day cleaning my PC yet. (havent had antivirus software in years)
The main annoying issue that persists is random browser openings to random ads (adware i guess) that alt-tabs my games lol. Since its only every 20-30 minutes, ive managed to ignore it until now (no important files on this PC, just games) It always opens a tab of Asdbie(dot)com that instantly redirects to some random adware site. Also a program called ProxyGate was just installed today at 5pm while i wasnt even at my computer, so thats also pretty creepy. Seeing that is what is driving me to finally fix this, as who knows how far this could/can go. I havent used any antivirus in years, can you nice people recommend me some good free ones? Posted: 03 May 2018 10:17 PM PDT Occasionally my disk on task manager is stuck at 50% and windows is amazingly slow. sometimes I can wait it out and other times I have to restart. ASRock mobo has a "ryzen 2000 ready" sticker. Will a 2600 work out of the box? Posted: 04 May 2018 12:24 AM PDT Hello reddit Ordered a Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming-ITX/ac and a ryzen 5 2600 CPU for my new build, thinking I would have to borrow my brother's 1600 to update bios and make it compatible with my pinnacle ridge CPU. The mobo box has a sticker that says "AMD Ryzen desktop 2000 ready" on it. Will my CPU work or is it just for the 2000 series APUs? Do I risk something by simply trying? [link] [comments] |
My USB ports kinda stop working after some time my PC is turned on Posted: 04 May 2018 04:08 AM PDT Hello, So the thing is that when i do something on my PC my USB ports are sometimes laggy like the mouse doesn't work for about 3 sec. Then it starts working again. That would be annoying but not really an assue. The problem is that sometimes it does not respond anymore unless I restart my PC. The mouse and keyboard are still obviously at the time still powered since the Num Lock is glowing, mouse laser still shines and so. It just does not respond. My USB drivers are up to date and I tried rebooting my PC but the problem still occurs. Sorry for my grammar, english is not my native language. I would be grateful for any ideas about how to solve this EDIT: the problem is only with the USB since my speakers and microphone still works as it should [link] [comments] |

Got a virus or something and I'm now in full panic mode! Posted: 04 May 2018 12:16 AM PDT I stupidly downloaded a shady file, I scanned it, but it installed a bunch of shady apps and installed trojans. I stopped it as quick as possible and removed the files via Malwarebytes, also did a full system scan with Avast, but the problems didn't stop there, unfortunately. I can't run most programs now or files. I downloaded a recommended virus removal program, but when I click the install file, nothing happens, like with pretty much everything else I click on...whenever I click on something the little loading icon shows up for a second...and then just nothing happens. Same thing in Safe mode. Ugh. What can I do? I have a system restore point from yesterday, but I can't run system restore, or seemingly most programs. I also can't uninstall programs, not that I really need to. Didn't seem like a computer breaking virus, just seemed like an ad/malware virus (installed a Win a free Ipad icon on my desktop, for instance), but my computer is seemingly broken now. I'm going to keep my eyes glued to this post. Is my WiFi plan good enough for gaming/streaming Hulu/Netflix Posted: 04 May 2018 12:05 AM PDT Hello everyone, I am moving into my apartment tomorrow and I called xfinity for their WiFi services. They gave me a plan of 60Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload. It'll only be my girlfriend and I living in the apartment. I tend to use multiple devices at once such as 4K TV streaming Netflix, laptop with tabs open and playing video games on my laptop while also going on my phone using social media apps. My girlfriend usually just goes on YouTube on her laptop, web browses, and uses her phone for social media as well. I'm unsure if it's 60 megabits per second or 60 megabytes per second... I'm guessing it's probably the 60megabits per second and 5 megabits upload. Is this plan good enough for us? Any thoughts or experience? Please let me know! Thanks guys. [link] [comments] |
