    Laptop recommendation for construction/student

    Posted: 23 Apr 2018 01:02 PM PDT

I'm looking for a laptop I can use for school and for work as a project engineer. I would like a 2 in 1 capable device that can run programs like revit. Long battery life, portability, and screen brightness are big for me. I'm willing to spend a lot if it's the best product for me. Thank you

Hp Envy 13t. Keyboard light doesn’t turn off.

    Posted: 23 Apr 2018 02:09 PM PDT

Specs: Hp 13t. 8550u 16gb mx150 512gb 4k. I have this odd issue where the keyboard light does not turn off. The laptop also doesn't sleep. The screen turns off after a few min but the laptop does not sleep. Last night I left it on and the laptop idled to death. I've uninstalled the Intel management engine interface MEI drivers and it doesn't help.

Do they sell SMALL laptop cooling pads?

    Posted: 23 Apr 2018 01:50 PM PDT

I bought a cooling pad advertised as for a 12"-17" laptop, and this thing is a giant monstrosity that dwarfs my little XPS 13.

Do they sell SMALL ones for a 13" laptop?

    Dell Inspiron 7577: Differences between IN-RD33-10606, IN-RD33-10306 and N7577-9132?

    Posted: 23 Apr 2018 06:10 AM PDT

In my country (non English) I see 3 different versions of the laptop at 3 different prices (about 50 bucks more for each subsequent version): IN-RD33-10606 IN-RD33-10306 and N7577-9132

I've tried searching online in other places but couldn't find any English sites mentioning those version IDs. They all seem to be the same but wondering if any of you knew a difference?

So I just opened up my ASUS G751JL and cleaned out the fans in the inside. I reconnected all the cables and screws and put everything back together the way it was.

I have my laptop plugged into the wall and the battery icon is orange. However, when I try to turn it on, nothing happens. Can anyone please help?

    Laptop with mx150?

    Posted: 23 Apr 2018 07:59 AM PDT

How's the performance of this card with older games? I've been thinking to get one but when I was looking at one in a store, I happened to use that Can I Run It site and on games such as Witcher 2, it was telling me it can do Minimum.

Is the card really this weak or is that program really in accurate?

    The best Student laptop

    Posted: 23 Apr 2018 11:32 AM PDT

So, I have been planning to buy a 2017 Macbook Pro for quite a while, but recently I received some advice that some other laptops can be a better consideration for me. I would be very grateful if you could help me choose the right laptop. Some of my crietrias:

    • I want a laptop only for college stuff, and I will probably not be playing any game at all. I am considering to major in Economics, so I might use a ton of Word, Excel, and maybe some math programs. Not a lot of graphics probably.

    • The foremost category for me is the absolute lack of any LAG. I freaking HATE LAG. My previous two computers were very low and mid-end and lagged most of the time I spent doing web surfing and working on word docs. So, for my new laptop, I cannot afford any lags at all. I just want smooth web and doc performance for research.

    • I want my laptop to load and boot up fast.

    • A good battery life is definitely a must

    • Portability is important as well

I can afford a laptop in $1000-1200 range but not more.

To buy or not to buy [a mac]?

    Posted: 23 Apr 2018 06:51 AM PDT

    Hi there,

I was considering to buy a new Macbook Pro mid-2017 model recently, but I received some advice from a number of people telling me to wait until summer. What are your thoughts on this? DO you guys think the new models would be considerably better than the older ones and at a reasonable price (I can afford no more than 1300$)? How much do you guys think the prices are going to fall?

    Buying a laptop

    Posted: 23 Apr 2018 04:29 AM PDT

I'm unsure what laptop to purchase for college. I'm doing a business/tech course which involves programming and web development aswell as using other software such as MS Visio, Access etc.

I'm looking for some advice on the specifications I would need in a laptop? Would I need 8GB ram etc. Open to suggestions for laptops also. Also I don't want a laptop that "will do the job" and become slow af after s few months.

    All feedback appreciated :)

Which Size laptop should i buy?

    Posted: 23 Apr 2018 07:43 AM PDT

I currently have a 14' laptop that I surf the Internet on and watch shows on laying on my belly in bed; it is too small, but should I go 15.6' or 17' inch with my next one? Will 17' inch be too big?

Edit: I like to lay on my belly, pillow under my chin and look at the screen. I have about a foot, or a bit less than a foot, from the screen to my eyes.

    looking for Lenovo T480 alternative

    Posted: 23 Apr 2018 07:36 AM PDT

    • Total budget and country of purchase: no budget, Germany

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. battery close to 100 wh, need to get 8 hours of compiling and actual work done

    • How important is weight and thinness to you? sub 2kg (4.4lbs) would be great

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. does not matter will go linux anyway

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 14 inch but not really important, 1080p max because of batterylife

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. No graphic tasks

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? no gaming

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? good keyboard, build quality, love the thinkpad keyboard

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I am looking for a durable ~14' laptop with a battery close to 100 wh. The only one i can find is the Lenovo T480. Only problem is that i like to work outside and 250 nits is just not bright enough. 8th gen i5 with 16 gb ram would be perfect. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thx in advance.

    Undecided on what to choose

    Posted: 23 Apr 2018 01:13 AM PDT

I am looking at the two laptops below and I am torn on which way to go. My usage requirements are light work from home using Excel, Word Web Browsing etc and gaming after hours. First is the Metabox Prime S P950EP with new i7 Processor and GTX 1060 for $2517 or the Metabox Prime P650HS – G with the current i7 and GTX 1070 and G Sync for $2267.00. What do you think would be the better machine?
