PSA: Update your wifi adapter drivers before the next Windows 10 update boots up Posted: 16 Feb 2018 10:40 AM PST Don't lose you connection! Older drivers might be a problem with this update. I've just wasted three hours of my life booting up an old Dell computer to gain access to the internet and grab the latest driver for my d-link wireless adapter. Everything works fine now. CMD/Powershell advanced renaming of files. Posted: 16 Feb 2018 11:33 AM PST I have a large number of files I want to rename that I would prefer to have renamed in an automated method. Here's the list of 4 files for example and what I want to call them. ABC (1).DNG --> DJI_0001.DNG ABC (2).DNG --> DJI_0002.DNG ABC (23).DNG --> DJI_0023.DNG ABC (407).DNG --> DJI_0407.DNG Basically I want: ABC (XXXX).DNG to become DJI_XXXX.DNG I'm here to ask if anyone knows of a command prompt or Powershell command that could do this or whether or not anyone knows of a trust worthy program I could use. (I've used command prompt for this in the past, but I can't remember the command and can't find it online. I would also love to have this in command prompt form as it means I don't have to install anything if I shift computers and want to complete the same task.) [link] [comments]
Computer bootloops after "restoring previous version" Posted: 16 Feb 2018 11:54 AM PST Fuck Windows 10. Anyone have a solution for this? I'm planning on restoring a full image of my computer, getting all my data off, and moving to LTSB. [link] [comments]
Windows Spotlight lock screen no longer works after updating to Windows 10 version 1709 Posted: 16 Feb 2018 07:59 AM PST Bought a brand new lap top the other day and the Windows Spotlight lock screen was working just fine. Then I was asked to update the latest version of Windows 10, version 1709. After I did that, the Spotlight lock screen feature no longer works. The picture doesn't change and there is no "Do you like what you see' button, or any other interactive things I can click on. I've tried every single fix found on the internet and nothing works. Ive tried deleting 'Assets' from Content Manager folder, I've tried all the commands in the command prompt and power shell. I've tried messing with the registry, reinstalling Windows, etc. Nothing works. I think its ridiculous that MS can't get this feature to run smoothly. Any other suggestions? [link] [comments]

Posted: 16 Feb 2018 01:12 PM PST Greetings fellow Windows users. I just got a new laptop which happens to be freedos. I have installed Windows 10 and logged into my account but I can't seem to activate my license. My old laptop was Windows 7 and I got the 10 via upgrade and it turns out you can activate it only one more time. I used ubuntu for a couple of months on my old laptop and reinstalled Windows like a week ago and I think it registered it as the second activation. Now I wonder is there a way to redeem my Windows 10 activation somehow? I am kinda lost now and I can't afford a new Windows 10 license. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]

Installation refresh on Windows 10 - should I leave MSI splash screen on over night? Posted: 16 Feb 2018 07:49 PM PST Hi everyone. To make a long and impossibly frustrating story short, one of my HDDs wouldn't update properly and ended up in a reboot loop. I chose to refresh the installation (the option that lets you keep your files) with the help of a dual boot. The issue here is that it showed me a 'percentage done' screen at first, completed, restarted, and is now just showing the MSI splash screen with that little rotating loading icon. The HDD isn't being particularly loud, and neither my keyboard nor my mouse are lit up. I'm worried that it's actually encountered an issue and isn't telling me. Could it still be going through the refresh process and just isn't telling me? It wouldn't surprise me if I need to leave it on overnight, I have a little more than 2 TB of data. But I can't find anything about how long this process normally is online for sure and am asking for help. Thanks so much. [link] [comments]
Help with refreshing Windows installation. Posted: 16 Feb 2018 09:14 AM PST Hello, I want to refresh & optimize my windows machine. I would normally do a clean install and reinstall everything, but this is my only Audio production laptop that runs Windows and I have tons of installed plugins, couple of DAWs and huge sample library that I do not want to move & reinstall on a new install. My library and most of the plugins are installed on a separate partition, and I know I could just reinstall the OS, but I don't want to. I want to remove all of the windows update install files/caches/downloads, old windows defender definitions/downloads/caches, temporary install files and other stuff that bloats my C:\ drive. I would normally use a 3rd party software solution to clean, but I know that cleaners usually do more bad than good, especially registry cleaners. I am looking for advice how to approach all of this ? Windows disk cleaner does its job most of the time, but it is not so advanced and it doesn't delete old system files. [link] [comments]
Windows 10 lost USB Mouse and Keyboard Posted: 16 Feb 2018 09:03 AM PST Not sure anyone else seen this issue before. My Windows 10 install boots up fine, but my keyboard and mouse are not working at all. There seems to be a driver issue. Since I can't access Windows, I am helpless in trying to fix it. There is nothing wrong with either keyboard or the mouse. During boot up to bios, both work fine in my UEFI bios. It only stopped working once it booted into Windows. To make matter worse, my Windows backup are located on a Storage Space on the computer, so I can't even get to it when it boots into repair mode. Any suggestion to fix this before I have to reset my Windows 10? [link] [comments]

Cannot get outlook 2016 to work properly on my Surface Book 2 Posted: 16 Feb 2018 02:11 PM PST Just got a surface book 2 for work and it just isn't working. I've got the license for outlook 2016 and I connected my POP email address. However, I can't make subfolders to properly filter my stuff. My calendar is "computer only". Outlook 2016 works as intended on my desktop which has the POP account linked to it but my SB 2 is what I'm bringing into meetings and work everyday so I need this to work properly. I can't sync my folders from my desktop (which is running perfectly) to my laptop and its really goddamn annoying. My "sent" folder on my laptop is empty since I have sent anything on that yet. Nothing is as I set it up on my desktop. How do I fix this???? EDIT: On my desktop my account shows up as POP/SMTP and on my SF2 its a IMAP/SMTP EDIT 2: Okay so I figured out how to put them both on IMAP. Now the only issue I have left to figure out is how to put them on the same data file. When I add a data files, both devices show different data files. [link] [comments]

Fall Creators Update is causing PC to freeze/hang Posted: 16 Feb 2018 10:31 AM PST I own 3 PCs, and I have updated all of them to the Fall update. My 2 AMD PCs are hanging/freezing randomly and never recover. I have to do power cycle to get back to work. This happens frequently. My intel machine works fine on the other hand. I've noticed that this happens mostly when I use Google Chrome. Is there any advice for this issue? I don't know what to do and I would like to troubleshoot before downgrading. [link] [comments]

Posted: 16 Feb 2018 05:12 AM PST I have recently gotten a new computer only to discover that Paint was replaced by Paint 3D on it. After some research I found out that you could still get the old Paint in the Windows Store for free. However, when I look it up, I don't see anything resembling the old Paint: https://imgur.com/pOeCbCL Could someone possibly give me a link to the old Paint or any idea where I could get it? My computer sometimes put stuff in German, do I have a virus? Posted: 16 Feb 2018 06:02 AM PST Whenever I go on chrome, edge or Spotify, the ads are sometimes in German, same with the search results. I have scanned with windows defender on my computer and I haven't found a virus. My languages on all these softwares are English, does anyone know what's happening? [link] [comments]

Posted: 16 Feb 2018 02:32 PM PST I can't stand Windows 10. I think its essentially the defintion of malware. I come home today and everything is jacked up. Anyways, I want to turn OFF any/all future updates. I'm so sick of it. There has to be a way. Please. [link] [comments]
Absolutely sick of WINDOWS 10. Can't install Fall Creators. is there a solution for this? Posted: 16 Feb 2018 10:45 AM PST So, basically Windows 10 forces me to install its crappy new version. After around 2 hours trying to do it, it says it wasn't able to update and returns to the previous version. But it continues to push the uptdate, with notifications every 30 minutes tell me i need to restart. I honestly don't have the time to be repeating the same process everyday(that always fails). Is there a way of not upgrading AT ALL? Because my pc was fine. I was Ok with it. Now i'm not, and the only problem is Windows 10 updates. [link] [comments]
Windows mobile updating. Worst experience ever! Posted: 16 Feb 2018 06:18 AM PST I got a Lumia 635, it was on w8.1 so I decided to roll it into insider and update it through OTC updater. First it refused to update without any information then it started. It took one hour to install the new w10 build, ONE HOUR! After that it started to install several applications, twice, some didn't go through with cryptic error messages in the style of 0x08001000 bla bla. That until I decided to connect the phone to a Microsoft account. After that I tried to look if there were any new updates to the system thinking the OTC updater should have installed the last available build for insiders and guess what? No! It found another build so now it's downloading it and it will overwrite the system again. Are MS crazy ?! WTF! When I update my iPhone it gets updated in 10/20 minutes and that's it! This windows mobile stuff is ridiculous. [link] [comments] |
