My phone keeps temporarily turning down the media volume to play a notification sound.

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 07:14 PM PST

Is there any way to stop this other than muting notifications? It's incredibly annoying when I'm watching Netflix or YouTube and I can't hear what's being said for 3 seconds because I got a notification. Why can't the notification play without turning down media volume? I'd still hear the notification and I wouldn't have to rewind my video. This is the most annoying "feature" in Android.

I'm using a Samsung Galaxy J3 Luna Pro with Android 6.0.1 so rooting isn't an option. If there isn't a setting to disable this, is there any workaround in Tasker?

Is the Galaxy S9 the Android phone to get, or is there another phone worth waiting for?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 10:39 AM PST

    Hi Everyone,

Long time Samsung/Android fanboy here. I tend to be on a two year phone cycle, and have been getting Galaxy S phones for the last few years (Currently on S7, had an S4, and S1 previously).

I use my phones about 50-50 for personal and work. A good camera is also important to me.

I'm generally really happy with these phones. My only gripes being:

    1) The lack of ability to replace the battery is very frustrating. I notice the battery life on these phones tends to sharply decline after about the 1 1/2 year mark like clockwork.

    2) I don't have experience with the bixby button, but it seems like an annoying nuisance that I'll never use

    3) I really prefer the finger print scanner in the front. I use my phone docked into my car hands free device a lot. Having the finger print scanner in the back seems like it would make unlocking this phone dangerous while driving.

    4) Samsung bloatware... this has always been a problem.

Idea to prevent nav-bar BURN IN !

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 08:46 PM PST

    Hi,

Instead of having a disappearing nav-bar, that is sometimes kinda annoying to have to push back up when you need to do something, would it be possible to find a way to change the locations of the 3 icons just a few pixels to the right-left, top-bottom periodically?

This would help make sure the pixels that stay illuminated and off keep changing, thus preventing burn-in.

For phones with hollow icons, we'd only need to shift the locations a very little bit to accomplish what we need. The icons could move either every few minutes or constantly and very slowly.

    Add-on IR blasters?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 08:32 PM PST

Does anyone have any experience with add-on IR blasters (the ones that you buy separately and connect to Android phones that don't have built-in IR capabilities)? Basically, I'm looking to add an IR blaster to my phone since I have a lot of old stuff (think 90's to mid 00's stuff like VCRs) lying around the house that can only be controlled using remotes (which are broken or missing) and for a lot of them I don't want to keep buying universal remotes for every single one of them. I see many of these 3.5mm headphone jack IR blasters that are sold for less than $10 online, but they're mostly from eBay and with no feedback given and I have heard many stories of people saying that it doesn't work.

In addition, I'm eyeing a Google Pixel 2 and that doesn't have a headphone jack or a built-in IR blaster, so I'm wondering what options I have with such phones.

I'm sorry if I'm coming off as ignorant but I'm a newbie and most of my searches have not been very fruitful. Are there any good and inexpensive add-on IR blasters for smartphones (including Android), and if so, what would be a good suggestion? Thanks in advance.

    Select USB Configuration

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 07:18 PM PST

Most of the time when I plug my phone into the computer it is so I can transfer files so I always have to pull down the notification shade and change from charging to transfer files is there any way to make it so that the default is transfer files not charging I've already looked in developer options and I have it selected for P2P instead of charging but when I unplug the cord and plug it back in nothing seems to have changed I heard that if if you have a lock screen or any kind of security that that'll disable it every time so I remove my password and fingerprints so I just have it on swipe and still charging instead of you know transferring files I have a pixel 2 XL if that matters thank you have a good night

    Google search won't open links

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 05:43 PM PST

Not in its own app page, nor when I set it to open externally in Chrome. I tap on the result and nothing happens, and it takes a cycle or two of closing the app and searching again before it will open. Has anyone else had this issue and successfully fixed it?

    Legacy icon pack/disable Adaptive Icons?

    Any good square/flat icon sets?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 09:59 AM PST

I really like the Stark icon set, and spent the dollar-or-so to purchase it a while back.

However, the developers have since gone AWOL, and haven't updated the app in a few years. They're also not responding to Facebook posts or messages. This is getting obnoxious, especially considering that I could generate good icons to use (but can't include them in the con set, obviously).

Does anyone know of a icon pack of a similar style, that is still getting recent updates?

    Galaxy S7 Bluetooth Stuttering

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 03:46 PM PST

I'm having some issues with bluetooth on my S7 (TMobile). I purchased some effortless SleepPhones recently and they work great but I'm getting some audio stuttering. I've tried clearing the cache partition, putting all bluetooth related system apps in unrestricted battery/data usage, & firefox in unrestricted data usage (I use this to play audio so it will continue to play with my screen off.) My phone is also about 2-3 feet away from where I sleep so there definitely shouldn't be an issue with range. Is there anything else I can try to fix the stuttering audio? I hate when I'm laying there almost asleep and my audio stutters then I'm back awake again lol...

How do blocked messages on Android Messenger work?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 09:30 AM PST

Just wondering if sms messages from blocked users are completely blocked from coming into your phone or are just routed to the archived folder without a notification. Seem to be getting a bit of conflicting information through Google searches. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Has anyone experienced abd fixrd the issue of S8+ randomly turning off Vibrate?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 11:10 AM PST

My phone will automatically turn on the ringer when though I set it to vibrate. It also makes the volume quite loud. Googling shows this is an issue for many but I haven't seen any solutions.

Anyone find a fix for this?

My S8 is stuck on a black screen after enabling the maximum power saving mode.

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 07:26 AM PST

I enabled the setting earlier where your touches are shown, and that is the only thing I can see on the screen, apart from the grey pop ups that come from the bottom when you try to use Bixby (it says that Bixby cannot be used while the power saving mode is on) or if I plug in a usb (it tells me that I can't transfer data until I enable the option to do so on the phone)

The power meter when the phone is shutdown and charging is shown too, and so is the Samsung logo on boot.

    The phone still vibrates.

I don't mind factory resetting, but I cant actually transfer any of my data to my computer since it denies the permission without me enabling it on the phone.

Power button + Volume down doesn't fix it.

Power button + Volume Up + Bixby send's me to a list with a few options.

I've already tried resetting the cache, which did nothing.

Safe mode shows the words 'Safe mode' in the bottom left of the screen, but everything else stays the same. The rest of the screen is still black and the phone behaves the same way.

Why did my Galaxy S6 reset itself?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 05:52 PM PST

I've had this phone since December 2015. Today, I put it down for a minute at about 60% charge, tried turning it on with the power button as I normally do, and it did not turn on. I let it charge for 15 minutes, still nothing. I held down the volume down button and then the power button, and it came up in Odin Mode. I held down every button and the phone restarted on with a factory reset. Was this my fault? Can anyone provide some insight on what happened?

Why Do I Have to Wait For My Smartphone Manufacturer to Push An Android Update Before I Get It?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 10:09 AM PST

Is there any other reason besides the manufacturer wanting to give it their own flavour?

If I rooted my phone would it theoretically be able to load up vanilla android with no issues? Or would the vanilla android have to be modified for my specific hardware?

    How can I know what channels/bands I really want/need? (FrequencyCheck.com)

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 01:49 PM PST

Whether it's the Windows-Phone-level tech hipster in me or just an honest disinterest due to pricing and features, I'm not happy about settling for what the AT&T stores sell, or are about to start selling. After looking at what other manufacturers provide, I'm most interested in grabbing the Sony Xperia XZ2 or Nokia 8 Sirocco and taking it to AT&T (I'm getting a sweet $20/mo unlimited deal with my parents' Premier account). The problem is that it seems like virtually no phone, other than the ones that AT&T already sell in their stores, supports HSPA+ (fastest UMTS protocol) or LTE band B30. Perhaps the former has to do with how AT&T markets a 3G service as 4G (the 4G indicator takes its own AT&T-designed logo on the top bar on my current AT&T-locked SGS7) and the latter has to do with the band only being used by AT&T (and affiliated MVNOs) in the United States and literally nowhere else.

I'm trying to figure out a couple things. One, what is the best way to verify that the coverage of all of the protocols/bands listed on FrequencyCheck.com for each phone are correct? For example, the site seems to say that GPRS and EDGE are not supported by the Nokia 8 (using the pre-gen phone as an example since the new model probably won't be on the website for awhile), which I find incredibly odd for a global GSM phone model. Second, is there any way to find out whether a particular band for LTE is being utilized in my area? The B30 LTE channel, according to the AT&T Mobility Wikipedia page, is a newer band still being built out, so if I live in a place which has LTE coverage via other channels which a phone has (neither the XZ Premium nor Nokia 8 have B30, according to FrequencyCheck or GSMArena), I would imagine it shouldn't affect me until I'm in a place which utilizes either multiple channels including B30, or B30 exclusively. Maybe a more concise question would be, does it matter much if I lack one of the four channels which FC says AT&T utilizes? If so, how can I find out where B30 is deployed/being deployed?

My dad's Xperia XA doesn't accept his email

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 01:35 PM PST

Hello community. Long story short. My dad complained his phone was very slow, so I did a hard reset via SONY code (the one that is input on the dial pad and starts with *#) . The phone erased itself and everything but one I try booting it, and try setting my dad's Gmail for his Google services and backup and everything, a message pops up https://i.imgur.com/mEsLGmD.jpg

Any idea what's going on with this phone .-.?? Thanks in advance.
