Sunday Rant/Rage (Feb 25 2018) - Your weekly complaint thread! Posted: 25 Feb 2018 03:10 AM PST Note 1. Join our Discord, IRC, and Telegram chat-rooms! Please see our wiki for instructions. This weekly Sunday thread is for you to let off some steam and speak out about whatever complaint you might have about:
Rules 1) Please do not target any individuals or try to name/shame any individual. If you hate Google/Samsung/HTC etc. for one thing that is fine, but do not be rude to an individual app developer. 2) If you have a suggestion to solve another user's issue, please leave a comment but be sure it's constructive! We do not want any flame-wars. 3) Be respectful of other's opinions. Even if you feel that somebody is "wrong" you don't have to go out of your way to prove them wrong. Disagree politely, and move on. [link] [comments]

[USA] Lets talk about the S9 and S9+ pricing - finally no reason to buy from a carrier Posted: 25 Feb 2018 06:30 PM PST So the models are the same across all 4 carriers and the unlocked unbranded (sim free as our international friends call it) model. All devices are also available the same day. There will be no delay to the purchase of the unlocked unbranded model from when the carriers start their sales of the phone. Presumably the unlocked unbranded model will also be bootloader unlockable without jumping through hacks or hoops necessary with phones purchased from carriers which don't allow you to unlock and hack your phone (Verizon and AT&T) We can also presume, as was the case with the S8 you can flash any carrier firmware to the unlocked unbranded model so you can get carrier features like wifi calling, VoLTE, etc (at the expense of also getting the bloat that would come with it). Verizon announced they will sim lock phones a reverse of their longstanding freedom with phones purchased from them, meaning a Verizon S9 may be sim locked and require the usual hoops (unaccustomed to Verizon customers but well known to folks coming from the other big 3) if you decide to change carriers. As far as I can tell this is the first big flagship launch where the hardcore android fans have asked Samsung to treat the carriers as dumb pipe and give us complete freedom. Does this signal a changing of the tide in the US cellular market? [link] [comments]

Will WhatsApp ever improve the way it saves media on the phone? Posted: 25 Feb 2018 08:59 AM PST I think almost everyone will encounter the issue that WhatsApp media will start using up too much internal storage, and the only way to resolve it is to move all old images/videos manually to an external storage. I don't want to format my external storage as internal storage because it is too risky for me in case of an SD card failure. I also don't want to go the length of rooting my phone to install WhatsApp on an external storage. I just can't understand why WhatsApp wouldn't develop a more sophisticated way to save image and video files. Or at least in a way you could sort them by the person who sent it to you. For example, I don't want to delete/move pictures from my phone that my girlfriend sends to me, but the stuff being posted in the groups could easily be deleted/archived/moved every week. [Discussion] Which modern phones feature a 3.5mm jack, SD slot, and IR blaster? Posted: 25 Feb 2018 12:50 PM PST The top post over at r/gadgets is praise for the S9 keeping the 3.5mm jack, and the top comments praise phones that kept the SD slot and IR blaster. Keeping these features in mind, what would reddit's ideal phone options be? I figured this is appropriate since this isn't a phone recommendation request for me (I'm an iPhone heathen), but a continuation of a reddit community discussion [link] [comments]
