Buy now or wait for 8th Gen?

    Posted: 14 Feb 2018 11:55 AM PST

Hiya, i'm looking to buy the Lenovo Legion Y920

    Processor: Intel Core i7-7820HK

    Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070

    Memory:32GB DDR4-2400

Its on sale right now for about 2000 dollars (converted for Norwegian crowns), i feel its quite a good deal. I was wondering should i buy now, or is it worth waiting for the new 8th Gen processors?

    Gigabyte Aero 14 1050ti or Aero 14 1060?

    Posted: 14 Feb 2018 01:40 PM PST

    Hi everyone,

I'm planning to buy a new notebook and couldn't find a good answer for this question anywhere so I hope someone here can help me. I mostly will use the notebook for quite heavy stuff, game development (3d art and unity/unreal engine works) and also some video editing and visual works. I really need a mobile machine because I travel a lot and anything that is bigger than 14" and weights more than 4,4 pounds I can't consider mobile for me. I really need something light and still quite corporate style (not blinking red lights everywhere).

I'm a bit afraid of getting a Razer Blade with all the bad reviews and poor costumer service, especially in Europe. So I narrowed it down to the Gigabyte Aero 14.

My question now is: Is it better to go for the Gigabyte Aero 14 with Nvidia 1060 but without Thunderbolt 3? or Is it better to go for the Gigabyte Aero 14 with 1050ti and Thunderbolt 3 to use later with external eGPUs?

Please if someone can give opinions on this and help me to do the best choice would be very much appreciated!

    Thank you! Victor.

Yoga 920 or Spectre x360? Which is likely to get less hot?

    Posted: 14 Feb 2018 12:35 PM PST

I currently have a late 2016 hp spectre x360. It is a very good laptop but it gets really really hot, it's barely usable. I'm looking to replace it and also get a nice 8th gen cpu with quad-cores.

I read that the new spectre has the fans on the back which should help it be cooler and I love the keyboard on mine so I would like to get this. But I'm unsure of how better it will handle the heat.

The Yoga 920 also has the fans in the back but I never owned a lenovo laptop so I have no idea of what to expect.

The Surface Book 2 would probably be the perfect laptop but I could probably get both these machines for the same price. 😅

Amazon selling an XPS 13 9360 model with intel i5 8250U??

    Posted: 14 Feb 2018 04:47 AM PST

I just ordered an XPS 13 9360 model (2017) with an Intel i5 8250U chip (so 8th gen, right?). However, now I see that the 2017 models only have 7th generation intel processors and that the intel i5 8250 is only available in the newer (2018) 9370 model. I'm so confused. Has Amazon listed the wrong specifications?

    https://imgur.com/a/SLgTy

I mean, getting the 2018 model for that price would be a steal... (although the picture is definitely the 9360 (2017) model)

XPS 15 randomly shuts down when gaming after new update

    Posted: 14 Feb 2018 11:53 AM PST

Basically, after a new update the laptop shuts down within 5 or 10 minutes of gaming. The temps are fine, about 70 and this never had happened before. Is this a hardware problem or is it the software, Should I go check it out to be repaired? Help would be appreciated.

    Looking for a gaming laptop

    Posted: 14 Feb 2018 11:23 AM PST

    Hey everyone!

I need to buy a laptop for university work and for heavy-ish gaming so I would like the slimmest laptop possible for portability.

My budget is $2000 and I need it to be shippable to Turkey (if not to turkey than Canada is fine)

    Thanks for the help

    Replacement battery - UK , topstar u953

    Posted: 14 Feb 2018 09:51 AM PST

Ive had a laptop for a couple of years and recently the battery won't charge. Was originally purchased through pc specialist.co.uk

After speaking to the supplier they said they no longer stock the product and gave me the chassis model and was told to find one myself! Great I thought I'd be in with a chance but I'd imagine they come from a Chinese warehouse.

Id be very grateful if anybody could help me locate a replacement battery and even parts for future issues.

    Thanks internet.

Seems like these 2 laptops cost the same, both come with Intel Core i5-8250U, same mx150, same ssd.

Just got a new laptop. what do I need to do to fully optimize it's performance/functionality?

    Posted: 13 Feb 2018 04:49 PM PST

Bought a Dell Inspiron 13 5000 series. Already installed all windows 10 & Dell updates that I'm aware of. Just curious what settings/options I should tinker with to get the most out of this. Specifically settings for best audio/visual experience and anything else I might be missing.

Wait for coffee lake H or just get a 7700HQ now?

    Posted: 13 Feb 2018 07:07 PM PST

I'm currently looking to get an alienware 15 with a gtx1070 for uni, and I was wondering if I should wait for the potential 6 core 12 thread laptop CPUs or just go for the 7700HQ.

Would the extra cores be functional for me? Yes, because I will be dealing with 3d modelling and rendering, but would it be worth waiting? (semester starts in march) As a student, I doubt the additional cores and threads will matter too much, but this laptop will have to serve me through my education for the next 5 years.

Really conflicted about this, wait for god knows how long before the announcement and implementation (not to mention the wait for the model i want to be available in my country), or just get a laptop that would potentially be outdated in a few months.

Samsung TabPro s super slow charging

    Posted: 14 Feb 2018 01:08 AM PST

recently bought a new laptop/tablet and found that after 5 hours of constant charging my battery had only increased around 15 percent. my charging rate seems to fluctuate around 1000 to 6000 mW and is quite difficult to get a reading, i have used multiple adaptors with the same cord but it still fluctuates and charges really slow. it says that it will take me 10hrs to fully charge when it should only take 3

Anyone have the Acer Nitro Spin?

    Posted: 13 Feb 2018 06:17 PM PST

I'd like to know your thoughts about it. I generally like the convertible form factor, but would love dedicated graphics. I know it's not the best at everything, but I want to know if you are generally happy with it.

    Is this a Hardware issue?

    Posted: 13 Feb 2018 08:47 PM PST

Hi! I've had the Acer V-Nitro (Aspire VN7-592G) for about a year and a half now. Whenever I move it (ie lift, turn or bump) it blue screens. However its not a usual blue screen where the error shows and it loads through from 0-100%, but it restarts at 0%.

I have a feeling since its caused by moment it might be a hardware problem.

Does anyone know whereabouts to look in terms of hardware? Could it be a hard drive issue, or a ram issue or something else?
