Replacing a pager with an Android phone. How do I get constant notification/beep on missed calls? Posted: 15 Feb 2018 09:24 AM PST TLDR: Is there any app that is able to set a similar beep/custom sound when I have a missed call for example? Preferably that I can set custom per number but would be OK if it does it at every missed call. The idea is it would micmic a pager until I manually turn it off. I am part of the on-call rotation at work and we have been using pagers. Old-school yes, but it worked. When someone calls the office after hours and choose to leave an emergency voicemail - it pages to let us know to call in and check. The simple yet nice thing about the pager is it would keep beeping until I turned it off. Now, this is being replaced by both an email and an automated phone call (to my android) when it pages out. We use exchange and have the Outlook app for emails. It has very limited (to no) configurations to set custom alerts per recipient and nothing that would keep beeping for example. I have set a custom ringtone for the automated call specifically with a similar annoying high pitch beeping that is pretty sure to wake me up. However, it only goes off during the actual call and stops. In the event I miss the call for whatever reason, I would like something that keeps notifying me until I check the phone. How did snapchat know my real name??? Posted: 15 Feb 2018 08:49 AM PST I made a new Snapchat account on my other phone (which is brand new, never used Snapchat on it before) and used a fake name then I added my main account and the notification showed my real name!! Wtf?? I went to the settings and checked how my name appears to others and it was the fake one so how did the notification show my real name? EDIT: I should also mention that the app has no access to anything on my phone, no contacts, no storage, NOTHING, which is why I'm creeped out. [link] [comments] |
Alternative to Official Reddit app Posted: 15 Feb 2018 09:44 AM PST I like slide and even RiF and boost but one Hing that gets me is the comment designs, I love the way the official app sorts them and has spaces between top level comments (parent comments) but hate the battery drain and wake locks caused by the ifical app [link] [comments] |
Best simple whiteboard app, with zoom. Posted: 15 Feb 2018 06:10 AM PST Hey i'm looking for a simple, whiteboard or drawing app. Ideally so i can draw out ideas, and zoom in and out. I'm using an asus zenpad (the 8" one with stylus), its not very powerful, nor is the screen that large. Being able to draw schemes, potential plots etc, and then zoom out and move around the 'whiteboard', is the sort of thing i'm looking for. I have tried a few but they are either rather heavy drawing apps, or really very simple whiteboard apps where all you have is board the size of the screen. Any suggestions would be appreciated. edit: Whiteboard might be the wrong phrase, i dont want it to be shareable or for collaboration. More of a just a canvas i can zoom in and out of, generate shapes or lines etc, but nothing much more than that. [link] [comments] |
Where to find app for video editing Posted: 15 Feb 2018 07:41 AM PST I want to find an app for video editing specifically that can speed up videos and I can see them sped up in 30 fps [link] [comments] |
Is there an app who h would allow previewing a new wallpaper without necessarily applying it? Posted: 15 Feb 2018 07:36 AM PST I often find myself wanting to know what my home screen (including all app icons, widgets, etc) would look like with a different wallpaper. However I don't necessarily want to actually change it, just to preview it. It's not a major hassle, but does anyone know of an app that could do this? [link] [comments] |

Clip Layer alternative with search possibility? Posted: 15 Feb 2018 04:23 AM PST Hi, some time ago I was using Google Now on Tap, but now it doesn't work anymore - I have assistant instead of it. So I found Clip Layer app, which let's you select any text on screen, but problem is you can only share it or copy and AI can't search for selected fragment quickly. I'm looking for an app, that will work as device assistance app (so I will be able to just press&hold home button to use it) and will let me select any text on screen and search it in Google. Do you know any good app for this? [link] [comments] |
Specify DL location by filetype? Posted: 15 Feb 2018 09:48 AM PST Is there a download manager that will look at filetype and either ask where to put it, or automatically put it in a user-selected location? Pictures in this folder, music in another, ask me for PDFs.... [link] [comments] |

Posted: 15 Feb 2018 08:55 AM PST Hi hey hello! I'm looking for an app that enables someone to locate someone else using geolocation. Longstoryshort, a friend of mine suffered from traumatic brain injury and often gets lost. We are looking for a way to watch over him (i.e. his phone) the time it takes for him to recalibrate, so to speak, and ensure we can get to him in case he stumbles off-path. A handy app to be able to locate him at any given time.. Many thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Feb 2018 02:27 PM PST Ya'll give some good recommendations of different apps to try to meet people's needs. How about something different? What apps should a savvy user avoid - malware, spyware, privacy issues, covert bitcoin miners, broken business models, heinous developers, FOSS rip-offs, etc? Please name (but don't link me bot) the app to avoid, and explain why (preferably with a link to a source - to avoid plain rumor-mongering) and, optionally, an alternative app. [link] [comments] |
Reminder/To Do App w/ sharing & widgets Posted: 14 Feb 2018 05:30 PM PST Ok, my first post didn't get anything, so let's try a different way: Based on several threads in here, I've found recommendations for the following apps. Which of the ones below do you recommend that can be shared with multiple people (or even just one other) & has decent widgets so tasks can stay on the home screen. Also, if you have others to recommend - that have these features, feel free to recommend them: Any.do Collateral Cozi Evernote GQueues Habitaca Habits Keep Life Reminders Memorigi OneNote OurHome Recurrence Regularly Reminders Taskary Taskful Tasks TickTick To Do Todoist Trello WeDo Thanks. Posted: 14 Feb 2018 08:01 PM PST My Pixel 2XL just upgraded to 8.1.0 and now my Swype has added a permanent emoji row to the top of the keyboard. I do not want this but cannot figure out how to turn it off. What am I missing? [link] [comments] |
