AOL sent a spam complaint to my ISP, and the support guy there is freaking out. Posted: 14 Feb 2018 12:11 PM PST I got an email from the ISP I use asking me to contact them immediately. I called, and the support guy says I have malware on my computer or my phone, and I'm sending spam. The guy sent me an email with headers as proof. I'm not going to post the headers, as they contain identifying information for me and the recipient of the email. I sent an email to a friend who uses AOL for email, forwarding a link to a photo I saw on reddit that I thought was funny. I sent the email from my Nexus 5X, which uses Android 8.1.0. According to the headers, I used AquaMail, which is correct, and AquaMail is set up to use my email address at my ISP. The ISP is small and locally owned; it has one support guy. He was very excited about the complaint from AOL and was telling me the spam went "everywhere." I asked for specifics, but he told me instead what "spam" is despite my asking for more specific information, and he insisted that I get an anti-malware program for my desktop computer and my phone and wipe them both clean and report back to him. Whenever I asked a question about what spam the ISP was alerted to by AOL, he went off on my computer and phone were infected, and I needed to clean them, as I am sending spam everywhere. The email AOL sent my ISP referred specifically to that one email to my friend at AOL and provided this link. As far as I can tell, this one email I sent is the trigger for AOL's complaint to my ISP. What information can I provide to you guys to get some help on this? I've emailed my friend and asked to talk to him by phone to see if he marked my email as spam. My carrier is T-Mo, and my connection from home is via WiFi. My desktop is an iMac running 10.3.3 with no malware detection. My Nexus 5X gets Lookout from T-Mo and Google; Lookout reports no problems. [link] [comments] |

Business Use Case for Multiple Users Posted: 14 Feb 2018 06:25 PM PST Need some expertise solving a work issue. Looking to have multiple users share a couple of tablets and they only need to access Google Sheets. From a security perspective, I can't think of a good way to accomplish this. Option A) Fuck it. One profile, all accounts under Google Sheets, users manually switch between and sign-out. Not good. Option B) Add separate user accounts for each user. In testing this, the Google sheets app needs to be installed for each user. This makes it challenging, but somewhat doable. Option C) Restrictive User - This seemed like my best option, but for some reason the Google Sheets app doesn't show up as an option when selecting which apps the profile can access. Anyone know why? I feel like I'm not thinking of a better way to accomplish this. Appreciate any input. [link] [comments] |
Problems connecting a tablet to PC and transferring files. Posted: 14 Feb 2018 08:03 PM PST After encountering two peculiar issues when connecting my tablet to my PC, I tried scouring the net for answers and came up short.
I often watch videos on my tablet when taking the train, and nearly every morning I boot up my pc and add a video or two to watch. Lately, however, I've been encountering the following error: "This device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected." I'm then prompted to either skip the file or cancel the transfer. The videos in question are episodes of a television series, and I've noticed that, when transferring multiple files at once, some be transferred without problem and some cannot. Is this perhaps a formatting issue with my files, or some other system-related issue?
In trying to resolve the above issue, I tried connecting my tablet to the PC while powered off. I was surprised to find my PC detected the tablet as a removable disk drive, and I was unable to view any of the files saved in internal storage or the SD card I've inserted in it. When I right clicked the drive and checked properties, it was named "Linux file-CD Gadget USB device." The tablet is fairly new, and it's been a long time since I've owned an android tablet so I may be misremembering, but I'm fairly certain my old tablet allowed me to use it as USB storage even when powered off. Are there settings within the tablet or my PC that can be adjusted to remedy this, or is this simply how Android devices function? Any input regarding these issues would be greatly appreciated. Posted: 14 Feb 2018 07:48 PM PST Is it a voltage/wattage/amperage thing? I know nothing about how electricity works or why one charger would be "approved" for charging my phone, while every other charger on the planet is "dangerous" or "may degrade battery life". Any thoughts? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Feb 2018 07:33 PM PST Hi, I have a Samsung Galaxy S4, which is practically an artifact at this point, but it works for me. Well, it did until recently... I have 3 emails sync'ed in to my gmail app which update every 15 mins. But I haven't received any emails to my primary account since Feb 12th. The other accounts appear to still be working fine. I can pinpoint the moment this must have stopped working. That night, my sister-in-law asked me to forward along some photos/videos she sent to me on WeChat, which I've never done before. I selected the videos/pics and sent a few emails out. A few of them worked, and one or two of them failed. I didn't think much of the error msgs at the time, but I think it essentially just said "one or more media files failed to send. 25mb limit.. etc.etc." Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this? I've looked at my settings and everything seems to be okay, I get no errors in gmail app... I just get no emails either (on this particular account). I've force stopped and cleared cache on both programs, and restarted my device several times.. didnt help.. Thanks!!! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Feb 2018 07:19 PM PST What is the intended behavior of the "Turn wifi on automatically" option? I always assumed I should be able to turn my wifi off when I'm away trying to save battery and the option would automatically turn it back on when I got home. But it doesn't currently ever turn back on for me. I started a chat with a Google representative on my phone where I explained the issue and the guy told me for that option to work wifi needed to be on....am I crazy? Wifi needs to be on for a feature named "turn wifi on automatically" to work? I thought there was some misunderstanding so I tried to re explain my issue and he assured me this was correct...I just don't get what the feature is supposed to do? Any help? Posted: 14 Feb 2018 07:08 PM PST I have a Nexus 6 running Android 6.0.1, so feel free to tell me that this is fixed/better in Android 7. It's rooted and I haven't been able to get a backup lately, so I'm holding off on upgrading the OS. Now then. I'm something of an avid rhythm game player, and it infuriates me when calls come in while I'm playing not because I can't ignore them, but because I can't ignore them. The Phone app either shoves a heads-up notification over the top half of my screen, making it so I can't see notes coming, or simply takes over the entire screen if I block it from "Peeking"—which is even worse. There might be a way to solve this with root tools (I also have Xposed installed, planning to move to Magisk whenever I do upgrade Android), but I would prefer a vanilla solution. Obviously the main purpose of a phone is to make and receive calls (though that's debatable, in this day and age), but it should be possible to receive calls on my own terms. Taking over the screen as usual is OK if the screen is locked when a call arrives, but not if the screen is on. In a previous version of the Phone app, disabling its ability to peek notifications solved the issue. An update broke that (adding the "screen takeover" behavior previously described instead), and I've been dealing with it since. Today I've finally had enough. Is there any solution short of simply moving my gameplay to a device that can't receive calls? [link] [comments] |

Any way to make network shares visible to apps? Posted: 14 Feb 2018 06:09 PM PST I have a Linux server on my home network, and I'd like to make a library of audiobooks on it availableto add as a library folder in my phone's audiobook player app for listening at home. Any ideas? [link] [comments] |

Nokia 6 "Android System: Wifi has no internet access, Tap for more option" Posted: 14 Feb 2018 05:55 PM PST I am using nokia 6 with android 8.0. Starting from last night, my phone when connected to wifi, constantly popped out this notification with 2 beeping sound, "Android System: Wifi has no internet access Tap for more option" It last for like a second, and then disappear. Nothing happens if I tap it. It's annoying because I can't find how to turn off this notification and I have to put my phone into Do Not Disturb Mode. The wifi is working fine btw. I just need to get rid of this notification. [link] [comments] |
OK so how do I really stop wifi switching? Is there something I am missing here? Posted: 14 Feb 2018 09:01 PM PST I have several unique Wi-Fi around me and often it will switch among them. All my Google answers seem to include a different ui and one with dark background. https://imgur.com/a/k4umw As far as I can tell I have disabled all 'smart' features that produce undesirable results. I still get seemingly random switches between them when in range of all. Only fix seems to be to forget all networks except the one in use which is extremely annoying since I then have to retype all passwords. [link] [comments] |
How to remap volume buttons to game shoot action? Posted: 14 Feb 2018 08:53 PM PST Hi, I've been looking around for a way to re-map the up or down volume control to the FPS games shooting action (be able to shoot with the volume buttons instead of the virtual buttons) Is there any way to accomplish this? Huawei Mate 10 Pro Bluetooth issue Posted: 14 Feb 2018 04:07 PM PST I have this little problem with my new Huawei. Whenever I connect it to my car or Bluetooth headphones, the audio from my phone will randomly switch from my car speakers or my headphones to the phone speakers. The only way to get it outputting audio through the Bluetooth device again, is by reseting my Bluetooth connection. However, it does this every time and its driving me insane. Can someone help me with this? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |

Battery drops to zero from ~30% Posted: 14 Feb 2018 06:40 AM PST Hello, my phone is Samsung Galaxy Note 5, Android 7.0. I've had it for almost 2 years now. I've had it repaired in the past because the phone "lost power" (according to Samsung center), basically what happened was one day the phone suddenly would not charge past 10% no matter how long I had it plugged in, and the phone was always hot. They replaced the battery I think. Just saying this in case it might be relevant. Anyway, my problem now is the cable that came with this phone is kinda broken, and I have to fiddle around with it a lot to get the "fast charging" to work. A few days ago, I started borrowing my roommate's cable, which gets the fast charging working. Around two days after I started using my roommate's cable, this problem started. I would be using my phone, not plugged to the charger, with around 30% battery, then it would suddenly shut down. Then when I plug it in, it says the battery is at zero. After I charge it up, the battery level goes down normally until around 30, then would shut down again. I did not install anything new in the past month. Is this just a need to replace the battery? Or is it because I'm using a different cable, even if it's the same charging brick? Thanks to anyone who answers! [link] [comments] |
Unrooting - completely clueless. Help! Posted: 14 Feb 2018 04:16 PM PST Hiya, I'll start with saying I know absolutely nothing about technology - my last phone (htc M8) was picked and set up by my ex boyfriend and after having battery problems, I bought a cheap secondhand M10 to last me the year before I started uni. Had no problems with it other than a banner notification from Supersu about the binary needing updating - I had no idea what this was, and couldn't find the app so I ignored it. I let this go through a few times and it failed every time so I just rebooted the phone each time, went on as normal and ignored it as the phone was working all fine. Fast forward to today and I'm not sure if I clicked on something or if my apps updated but now a bunch of them won't work because apparently my phone is now rooted? I have no idea what any of this means, but a lot of the apps are to do with important daily things like my banking, and I go in for surgery next week so need stuff like this working through my recovery so I can get stuff done. I looked stuff up and then found that I had tHe SuperSU app in the 'hidden' apps on my phone. I can't uninstall it, and I tried unrooting it via the app which has failed every time. I'm assuming this is because the binary isn't up to date, making the app useless, but at the same time, I can't make that work either so I really don't know what to do. I don't even know what rooting is, and use my phone pretty basically, for social media, emails, banking etc so I really want to just unroot it but have no idea how to go about making this work. Any explanations will need to be super clear as I'm really clueless with this stuff, but that said, any help would be so so appreciated as I really want to avoid a factory reset [link] [comments] |

Why is it so dang difficult to find a gallery app capable of RANDOMIZING a slideshow of photos? Posted: 14 Feb 2018 03:26 PM PST Title says it all. Every gallery app, including Google Photos does in order slide shows. No, I want random What's the point otherwise? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Feb 2018 03:22 PM PST Hi, Every time I look at my photos through apps like Instagram, there will be some that show up as gray boxes and give the "cannot be loaded" message when I tap on them. I noticed that if I close certain apps and try again, then some of those photos will work but others will continue to grey out. Sometimes the photo thumbnail will look fine but will still give the cannot be loaded message without becoming greyed out after I tap on it. It happens with photos saved on the SD card or internal memory. It seems as though it's not able to load photos which are being loaded in other apps but that rule doesn't always hold up. Ive tried benchmarking my SD Card and it is reading and writing at the correct speed. It's a 128 gb Samsung EVO+. The phone is new, I bought it a month ago. It's a Sony Xperia XA1 Plus, and I'd say that aside from this, it works marvelously. Any idea what I can do to fix this? [link] [comments] |
My LG Fiesta 2 keeps redirecting me to "winning sweepstakes" pages. Posted: 14 Feb 2018 02:38 PM PST I have a LG Fiesta 2 through walmart family mobile and I've had it for about 5 months and just recently starting about 3 days ago every time I use the internet, through the google chrome app, I will be redirected to a site with a voice saying "congratulations" and there will be a youtube type webpage but it's not youtube or an amanzon type webpage but it's not amazon and it says I've won whatever prize, like a new phone. How do I stop this from happening? It's driving me crazy. [link] [comments] |
Really poor quality when watching Nexflix on my Pixel 2 Posted: 14 Feb 2018 10:20 AM PST Hi, I have a Google Pixel 2 and when I am watching Netflix on it, the quality is really poor. Especially the black color. For example, if the scene is at night, the black background become very ''pixelised''. I tried to change the resolution on my phone (Natural, saturated.. ) and also directly on Netflix (HD/Non-HD) with no luck. Can someone have some idea about what I can do about that? Before this phone I had an Iphone 5S and I never had this problem.. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
