1440p Gaming monitor suggestion? Posted: 27 Dec 2017 01:10 AM PST Any suggestions on some good bang for your back monitors? I've heard a lot of horror stories about color banding and don't want to waste my cash. Please Help!!! [link] [comments] |
How much can a motherboard take? Posted: 26 Dec 2017 10:47 PM PST How sturdy/resilient are motherboards? I had to apply an enormous amount of weight to make my stock wraith spire cooler meet the screw holes, pc works, but worried that maybe the motherboard is damaged and I don't know it. Do I really need this much C++? Posted: 26 Dec 2017 11:46 AM PST Basically when I had Steam it always forced me to install a new one when I played a new game. This is what my program list looks like now: https://imgur.com/a/mu7oE [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Dec 2017 10:03 PM PST When upgrading my video card, my computer did not get a signal(HDMI) since finding that problem i've reinserted the old graphics card and attempted to use the integrated graphics with the same result. I have also tried to reseat the RAM and my computer started beeping. Using the original stuck i placed it in all of the slots and it stopped beeping for awhile, i moved it and the beeping began again. I think i've ruled out a power supply problem as everything in my computer spins up as normal. I also reseated the CMOS battery as well I can update with pictures and more information as needed, all help would be appreciated thanks! [link] [comments] |

i3770k ASUS P8Z77-V LX2 build just died, looking for assistance Posted: 27 Dec 2017 02:33 AM PST Operating SystemWindows 7 Computer Specs (PSU, GPU, CPU, RAM, Motherboard)Corsair 550D Obsidian2x Intel 330 120GBi7-3770kMugen 3 coolerAsus P8Z77-V LX2Sapphire HD 77502x Crucial 8GB CL9 1600MHzSeasonic M12II-520 Speccy LinkN/A Description of problemHey all. After almost 5 full years of loyal service, the above combination died on me recently. I've never really been happier with a build in terms of meeting my needs, so it's pretty devastating, but 5 years is pretty good.It simply stopped posting out of nowhere. I troubleshot everything. Trying to boot without anything but RAM/CPU, etc. It posted once, on like the 40th attempt, then didn't post again. Which I found really odd. After that, I decided to take it into service, to see what they would say. They said that the CPU was overtaxing the socket in terms of power draw and that eventually both the CPU and socket just stopped working. They couldn't get the board to post with any other CPUs nor could get the CPU to post on other boards. I have no idea regarding the validity of their explanation, maybe somebody could chime in in regards to that? Just seems strange to me that it would suddenly stop working due to what was apparently a long-term problem. But this is far beyond the limits of my knowledge. When this issue began1 week ago Recurring issueYes Date of purchaseN/A Under WarrantyNo Cause/Steps to recreate the issueAfter retrieving it, I went with the CPU 1 stick of RAM onboard graphics method to try to get it to POST. It would, but would only last for a few moments before turning off again. When it posted, it showed correct RAM/CPU settings/info. After this, each time I tried to get it to post, it would power up for a few seconds, then the fans would turn off shortly afterwards. What I've tried so far to resolve the issueBasically everything except for replacing parts.Anybody have any suggestions for what I can do? If not, can anybody suggest where I could look into getting a replacement 1155 motherboard? So far it seems like ebay is the best option. [link] [comments] |
[Help] Spectre x360 Won't Charge Posted: 26 Dec 2017 10:40 PM PST I have an early 2016 Spectre x360 that suddenly stopped charging. No lights from the charger or anything. I've tried a other charger and outlet so it's an issue with the laptop. I was going to take it to a computer repair place in the morning but I need this fixed as soon as I can. If anyone has experience with this or any suggestions (tests, software updates) I can do that would be great. [link] [comments] |
Computer turns off instantly a split second after turning on Posted: 27 Dec 2017 04:06 AM PST Specs: Intel core i7 4790k (slight downclock) GTX 980ti 16gb DDR3 RAM 500gb SSD 2tb SSHD 1TB HDD 600w EVGA PSU Bronze rated NZXT PHANTOM 410 case Corsair H60 CPU cooler PCIE Wlan card The case and cooler are new from Christmas. Previously I had a super old broken Lian Yi case from 2003 and a stock Intel cooler. Upon moving everything to the new case and installing the cooler, I had this issue where I push the power button, the fans spin and the case lights turn on for a split second, then they shut down immediately after. Pushing the power button additional times will do nothing, until the power supply circuit is switched off and then back on, then it can be turned on for a split second again with the same results. I have experienced a similar issue in the past when installing an aftermarket air cooler. Both on an earlier version of this build, and another mobo with the same CPU and and PSU. I'm wondering if it might be that the PSU is simply not powerful enough to handle any aftermarket cooling systems? Removing my GPU did not seem to help though. Additional info:
In any case, I believe that it has something to do with my PSU not being able to handle aftermarket coolers, (though the issue persisting with the GPU removed makes me question this. Surely a GPU would draw more power than my CPU cooler?) Or some unseen damage done to the mobo during installation. I'll keep looking and let you guys know if I find anything new. In the meantime though, anyone with any ideas, please share them. Any help is appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Can't boot into Windows after trying to update, need help with BIOS Posted: 27 Dec 2017 04:05 AM PST Before the problem Few months ago, when I got this notebook (Dell Inspiron 15 Gaming), I modified the Registry (backing it up first) so the default path for Program Files and Program Files (x86) was in my HD and not my SSD. Also, for a few weeks, Windows had always tried to install their latest update (iirc "1709"), and it was getting kind of annoying that it tried everytime but never could. Once or twice I tried solutions from the internet with no luck. But then I saw something about the registry, then I imported the backup (which, according to Windows, didn't work fully, yet I saw the 4 lines I changed in the registry as their old counterparts) and also downloaded the update manually from their website (as opposed to the automatic and embedded into Windows updater). For some reason, when the update was done, my wallpapers had changed to default and my Google Chrome had been deleted, because Microsoft has that thing where they want you to use Edge, at least for my computer, it was a hassle to install but that's another story. Anyway, when I went to change my wallpaper back, I saw that for some reason I couldn't open pictures (.png, .jpg, etc.) and that something was missing in the registry. Anyway, so I turned it off (or Windows asked me to reboot, I don't remember) and now it won't boot into Windows, just bios stuff. This happened yesterday. The problem Currently, when I try to turn on the PC, this screen will appear sometimes, it did a few times yesterday and the first time I turned it on today but haven't been able to replicate. When that loading finishes, a loud beep sound plays and it goes to some menu where you can check for different problems, but I couldn't access it anymore today. When I press ESC during the loading, it just turns off and when I press F12 it goes to this menu. Normally tho, the default Dell loading screen appears, and I can press F1 to trigger a loading screen (I can't remember what it does, today when it loads it does nothing) or F12 to go to this BIOS screen. Any help? I think formatting would be the right answer but I'm pretty lost in those menus. [link] [comments] |
RAID 0 on not identical drives but very similar. Posted: 27 Dec 2017 04:01 AM PST I have two 1 TB HDD's that both have the exact same size, RPM and cache. However, they are not of the same brand. Am I still able to put these drives into RAID 0 or would this cause issues? [link] [comments] |
Bought Samsung EVO 850 SSD for extra space? Posted: 27 Dec 2017 03:54 AM PST Hi all so I just purchased a 250 GB Samsung EVO 850 in hopes to have more space whilst being an SSD so I could make my load times on my main games faster since I run my OS on a 128 GB and it doesn't have enough space for my few main games. I was hoping like all my other HDD's that it would just be like a plug and play with the SATA cables but of course, this wasn't the case. I did a little looking and now I'm wondering if I really have to go and grab one of those external SSD enclosures or if there's any other way to do this (preferably without buying anything else) Since I already have an SSD for my OS, otherwise it's not exactly useful to me other than to be extra storage that writes that much faster. Sorry if I don't really make any sense and thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Mirroring Win7 PC to Samsung Smart TV over LAN Posted: 27 Dec 2017 03:54 AM PST Hi all, just wondering if its possible to do something like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MlGlwypqR2g In windows 7 without buying any additional hardware. The tv supports screen mirroring, just wondering if the OS is too outdated to support this feature in such a simple way. I've done plenty of searching the past few days but can only find tools to stream files. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Hinges on my 2-in-1 laptop (table, laptop) are a bit rusty, what to do? Posted: 27 Dec 2017 03:52 AM PST I recently started using my laptop as a tablet for the first time. The laptop itself is like 2 years old. I hear noise when I change it from Laptop to tablet and I'm not sure what to do. It appears that different models go about this differently. Posted: 27 Dec 2017 03:46 AM PST Forgive me if this is the wrong forum. I don't know where else to ask. Have an HP Deskjet printer. My six year old pulled out the cord while it was updating! Now every time I restart it, I get a printer failure message. Unplugging it for 60 seconds does nothing. Can't get to the menu, nothing. Pretty sure I'm boned :( Time to order a laser printer? Appreciate any advice! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Dec 2017 03:44 AM PST When I select my primary location which has the most gbs, a message pops up saying 'windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting this disk.' There are three different places I can choose; system (too small), primary (with that error message) and OEM reserved. Help me please. My drive won’t boot Posted: 27 Dec 2017 03:39 AM PST I recently installed an m.2 ssd to my dell laptop. I migrated windows 10 to it. Had it working but there was some unallocated space. I used AOMEI (partition assistant software) to merge volumes. Took me to preOS screen and it finished the process but it wouldn't restart. It said to manually restart after 3 minutes. Did exactly that and I get error 0xc0000225. Any fixes? I don't want to lose my data [link] [comments] |
PC loses power. No BSOD. Not overheating. Posted: 27 Dec 2017 03:37 AM PST Hi everyone. Operating SystemWindows 10 Computer Specs (PSU, GPU, CPU, RAM, Motherboard)Windows 10 64 bit Intel i7 4790K: idle 32°C 16gb (2x8) Corsair DDR3 1866 (9-10-9-27) Asus Maximus Hero VII NZXT Kraken x60 EVGA GTX 1080 HYBRID Corsair 860i psu Asus PB278 (2560x1440p) Philips Fidelio L1 (6/7 years old) Speccy LinkDescription of problemRecently my graphics card (EVGA gtx 780Ti SC) was diagnosed as faulty and replaced with the EVGA 1080 Hybrid. At the same time, cooling paste on the cpu was replaced. An early update to Windows Creators update was also performed (needed that video memory fix). Now a couple of weeks later my pc suffers from seemingly random power losses: No bsod, no error messages, only a power cut. The pc is immediately able to boot again and works like nothing happened. To my feeling, it happens the most when using spotify, but it also happens randomly when the pc is running for a long time. The funny thing to me is that it never happens when gaming, which should stress the system the most right? I can game for several straight hours: nothing happens; I open up spotify, 5 minutes in the pc loses power. Monitoring temps seems to show there is no temperature issue. However the windows logs are filled with a bunch of errors. I tried looking into them but it's hard to distinguish between real issues and service bloat. (logs: https://screenshots.firefox.com/QHkMOcsyymL9YrNM/www.messenger.com) Obviously the psu is the main suspect, but I never had any problems with it before. A larger power load due to the extra pump is possible, but I thought the 860 would be sufficient (as the 1080 is also a lot more power efficient). I will check the cables etc later this week. Any ideas? Is it dangerous for me to continue to work on this pc? I kind of need for work.I still have my old 780ti sitting on my desk, I can try swapping it in again. Thanks for reading and spending time to help people! (Also thumbs up for the guided support form ) When this issue beganAfter replacing video card (2 months ago). Recurring issueYes Date of purchaseN/A Under WarrantyNo Cause/Steps to recreate the issueNo specific action is proven to trigger the crash, although I suspect something with the audio connection or the psu. What I've tried so far to resolve the issueMonitored temps to rule out overheating safety shutdown.I will try clearing cmos this week. Also check if crashes occur with monitor audio output instead of headphones. [link] [comments] |
t.bone SC-1100 clicks/buzzes during communication, but not during recording Posted: 27 Dec 2017 03:37 AM PST Hello, I recently got a used pair of t.bone SC-1100s and I'm very happy with them. However a few of my friends have said that in applications like Discord, Teamspeak and Skype the mic has a weird clicking noise, but when I record audio in for instance Fruity Loops the audio is clear. The noise is present in both mics. I am using a Tascam US-122 interface. I'd be very grateful for any tips! [link] [comments] |
Windows 10 update automatically rolls-back my RX 480 drivers every week or so, how to stop? Posted: 26 Dec 2017 01:35 PM PST Hey-hey. Been noticing this problem for a few weeks (happened about 3 times now). Basically out of nowhere, my screen will turn black for a few seconds, when visuals come back, my AMD tray icon is gone, indicating a driver crash. So I open event viewer, and it says among other things: "Installation Successful: Windows successfully installed the following update: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. driver update for AMD Radeon (TM) RX 480" After rebooting, I open AMD Settings, and find the driver has gone from 17.12.2 to 17.1.1 (I think that's the version it went back to), so I've reinstalled the latest beta driver again just now. Is there a way to prevent Windows from updating specific device drivers, or is it a matter or disabling Windows Update, which I'd prefer not to. Thanks in advance [link] [comments] |
Combining two audio inputs into 1 pair of headphones Posted: 26 Dec 2017 09:30 PM PST Hey guys! I have a little bit of a conundrum. I have an Astro a40 headset, but my mixamp broke so currently I am just plugging the 3.5 mm jack containing both mic and audio input/outputs into my xbox one controller. This works great for game audio, but I would like to be able to listen to music from my computer at the same time. It seems to me that I need like the reverse of an audio splitter, some way to combine both the input audio from my (windows 10) computer and the game input from my xbox one into my headphones so I hear both. I am having a hard time finding a device that does this for me. Does something like this exist? [link] [comments] |
