Is there a reason to use a "desktop" (wrapped) app over using the web app? Posted: 06 Jun 2022 11:47 AM PDT I use a lot of web apps that also have desktop versions, but the desktop apps are just the web apps in a wrapper (in my case, Facebook, Airtable, Canva, Facebook Messenger, Etc.), which makes me think it's basically an isolated browser tab. Are there good reasons to use these apps instead of the web app? Are they faster than having a whole browser tab open? [link] [comments]

Does the BIOS system have windows 10/11 product key in it? Posted: 06 Jun 2022 01:36 PM PDT Hey guys, I am thinking of buying a new laptop and as soon as I get it I am planning on probably installing Linux on it. But I might need to run windows later as I join my masters. So I have heard that Windows now puts its product key in the bios so the user doesnt have to buy Windows multiple times or something like that? Can anyone confirm this? [link] [comments]

Posted: 06 Jun 2022 01:25 PM PDT Its basically windows 10 without bloat or spyware. The amount of tracking going on is sickening! Its also much faster. Great if you dont want to switch to Linux. It also is a bit more secure because exploits that use admin access do not work. [link] [comments]
Altering Program Files Locations and How Programs Access C: Drive Posted: 06 Jun 2022 01:23 PM PDT System: Windows 10 Pro 21H2 ***Problem Background**\* So I keep running into an issue where I'm running out of space on my C: Drive (75Gb partition on NVMe). I Placed windows on such a small partition because I was trying to isolate Windows from everything else; that way when something inevitably goes wrong with windows (not always through any fault of Windows...but Windows is Windows), I can simply nuke my C: drive and reinstall without having to work with moving files and folders of personal documents and media. But trying to do so keeps biting me in the butt and I'm wondering if there is a way to fix this. Recently the problem has affected my ability to clean up disk space on drives and remove unnecessary files. I'm specifically doing through my ebooks, to delete duplicates, archive read or unwanted books, and find potentially corrupted files (I had a hard drive die on me a while back). My C: drive has been bouncing around between 1-3Gb free space, as I understand opening files loads data into your prefetch directory or something like that, which makes sense...but the data chunks it uses don't. I had one book chew through almost 1/4 of a gig when opened. So I have to periodically stop when the drive fills up, and this is causing issues with other programs as well. ***Question**\* With the background out of the way, is there a way where I can fully isolate Window's files to my C: drive and have anything not windows on other drives? Specifically, I guess I'm wondering if I can change things so that the default location for installed programs is on a different drive(along with everything already installed that isn't a windows/Microsoft core thing)? As well as have the user folders stored somewhere other than the C: drive? Thanks! [link] [comments]

Posted: 06 Jun 2022 12:43 PM PDT Is night mode a thing on windows 11? I've tried looking for and googling it but all I can find is dark mode which doesn't seem like the same thing. [link] [comments]
How to automate bluetooth pairing and connect Posted: 06 Jun 2022 10:55 AM PDT hello my dudes Here's the deal, at work I have these piece of shit earbuds that won't always auto-connect to windows. IT REMAINS PAIRED, but won't connect. Also trying to manually connect the already paired device won't work. So what I have to do is UNPAIR, search for the device, and pair them again to reconnect them... Every-single-time, multiple times a day. Can I make a powershell script or .bat file or whatnot to automate this? If so, how? (noob explanation pls) Thanks! [link] [comments]

Windows 11 security app won’t open Posted: 06 Jun 2022 08:18 AM PDT This is a new surface laptop with windows 11 pre installed. If I go to settings/privacy & security/windows security it freezes for a minute (like a full minute) and eventually a button comes up saying Open Windows Security. Clicking on that button gives a message saying "You'll need an app to open this windowsdefender link". If I click on "Look for an app in the Microsoft Store" it says No results found. From Settings, I go to Apps/Apps & Features and search for "security" it finds no results. If use the Run app and open services.msc it shows Security Center running. I've restarted and stopped and started it and get the same behavior when trying to access settings as above. It also shows Windows Security Service as "Manual". When I try to start it it says "…started and then stopped…". I've run free Malwarebytes which found nothing and hitman pro which found only tracking cookies. I've rebooted numerous times. Any suggestions? [link] [comments] |
