Can't use a second router as access point. Posted: 26 May 2022 06:58 AM PDT I've been trying to extend my home network with a spare huawei router I have. The first one is a Huawei ONT while the second one is a dg8245V. I connected an ethernet cable in lan in the first router, while I used the wan port in the second one, I set the wan configuration to GE Uplink and everything was fine, the internet led is blinking, but when I connect to it there's no internet. anyone has any idea on what should I do in this case ? Need help choosing a captive portal solution Posted: 26 May 2022 06:18 AM PDT Hey peeps, as the title says I need help with captive portal for a small guest network. My current setup for it is: - A pc with 2 LAN adapters and pfSense installed. - A D-link access point. (My goal is to limit bandwidth for some users) I set it up with pfSense and it worked fine for a while but I failed many times. Another thing, pfSense has bandwidth limit option but for the entire captive portal and I was hoping for something with different users each with its limits. (I know pfSense can do this with Radius but I tried and it broke everything). I'd appreciate any help :D Thanks in advance :) [link] [comments]

Problems with Intel(R) Ethernet Controller I225-V Posted: 26 May 2022 04:04 AM PDT Hello, I've posted about this before but now I know the issue, I just don't quite know how to fix it. Problem is Network won't work from boot, network controller apparently restarts after boot, leading to a downtime of about 20 to 30 seconds before I'm able to use the internet. Anyways whenever I start my PC the Network Controller for some reason won't start with the error e2fexpress: (sorry it's in german, core issue should show though I guess)
So I found on Intels Website that I'm supposed to update my Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) but the website refers to a firmware update guide I can't find. Since I've never done that before, is there anyone whose able to tell me how exactly I have to proceed? thanks Asus Tuf Z690 Plus D4 I7 12700k fresh BIOS update (didn't fix the issue though) If any more info needed I'm willing to provide. Posted: 26 May 2022 07:47 AM PDT I currently have this router, and want to extend, and make a stronger signal else where in my house. What do I need to buy? a node? Which one? I am from the UK if it makes a difference. [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 May 2022 07:23 AM PDT For various reasons I need a cheap way to redirect my data through my network at work when I'm not there. I'm open to other very inexpensive methods (I do have access to the network rack) but the most convenient way would be to host a VPN server on an older Android device I'm no longer using. Does anybody know of and recommend one? Or have another cheap solution they would recommend? Thanks [link] [comments]

Why/How does every school in my county use the same wifi network Posted: 26 May 2022 07:17 AM PDT All of the schools in my county use the same wifi network. They all have the same name, <county name>Connect, and I assumed that they were just using the same name, until I did a test and realized they are all the same network. I plugged in a printer at one school, that can be remotely accessed by using a direct IP connection, which only works on the same wifi network, so when i go to my home wifi, it wont connect. However, if I go to a different school in the county, and connect to that wifi, it recognises it as the same network and will connect to the printer. Can anyone explain how that works, and why anyone would want to do it? Additionally, anyone know any cool side effects of this i can use? [link] [comments]
Recommendations for used 24 port PoE switch Posted: 26 May 2022 07:14 AM PDT I'm in the process of trying to do my ethernet network the "right" way — moving the gear into a rack with a patch panel and a single centralized switch instead of a series of 4 port switches branching off in the attic and basement etc. When I look on eBay, I see a ton of reasonably priced (sub $100) 24 port gigabit switches with PoE from a variety of vendors: HP, Adtran, Cisco, Nortel... it's a little overwhelming. At this point I don't have any "managed" needs. It would be nice to be able to segregate IoT traffic onto a separate network. But to start I would like to plug it in and have it work like an unmanaged switch. Any of these vendors that people like better than others? It would be nice if there was a web-based management console instead of telnet (maybe that's not a thing anymore). Any recommendations for vendors or specific models would be appreciated. Thanks. Planning home structured wiring - enclosure selection Posted: 26 May 2022 07:09 AM PDT Moved in to a new (to me) two-story home and am planning to install CAT6 to office areas, access points, and IP camera locations. I'm thinking I'll use Legrand/OnQ enclosures and accessories. Wondering if anyone has a preference for plastic vs metal enclosures. I don't plan to have any wireless equipment installed in the enclosures, so that's not a factor. The price of the metal enclosures seems to be almost 2x the plastic enclosures. How's the durability of the mounting holes in the plastic enclosures? Also wondering if anyone can comment on Legrand/OnQ vs Leviton? I installed a metal Leviton enclosure at a previous home and liked it, but Legrand seems to have a more robust catalog of accessories and seem to be working on developing new products for the line, or at least more recently than Leviton. system 1 can ping system 2, but system 2 can't ping system 1? Posted: 26 May 2022 07:04 AM PDT system 1 - Windows 10 Everything is on the same LAN/VLAN. I can successfully ping system 2 with system 1, but cannot ping system 1 with system 2 (or with system "3", if it matters). Also, if it matters: I'm running the VM in NAT mode (but again, I can't even ping system 1 with the host OS/Linux). All three systems have access to the Internet (e.g. I can ping Internet addresses using both systems 2 and "3" successfully, but cannot ping system 1). system 1: system 2 & "3": Setup is as follows: > ISP/Internet Any help would be appreciated. Note: I want to establish normal/full connectivity between both systems before I go ahead and implement a VLAN for each, thereby isolating them from one another on the LAN deliberately. Way to drill a hole between one small box to another? Posted: 26 May 2022 12:45 AM PDT I have 2 small boxes where the cables come out. They are 6cm wide and the distance between them is 4cm. Posted: 26 May 2022 06:34 AM PDT I'll be moving to a 2200 sq ft home and need to set up a mesh network from scratch. Looking for a mesh router solution under $500. I have 4 Sonos speakers, 4 HomePods, Apple TV, plus quite a few smart bulbs, smart switches, locks, etc. Oh, and I also need to make sure I have coverage in the garage. Speed not important in garage, only for smart door opener. If you were in my position, where would you spend your $500? [link] [comments]

Posted: 26 May 2022 05:22 AM PDT Hi, I would like to expand some ports from the ISP ONT but I wondered whether the switch will lower the internet performance(Speedtest/small packet). The contract includes multiple ip so numbers of ip won't be a problem. From my understanding, a L2 switch will just forward all routing stuff to upstream L3 compatible device. But I am not sure if I have any misconceptions. The intended switch is Mikrotik CRS305. Thank you for any help [link] [comments]

RE190 access point - out of ideas Posted: 26 May 2022 12:30 AM PDT Hey fellow networkers! Do you have any ideas what should I try? It seems that this newly installed device causing the problem, however I get the same results even when I'm out of that device range (I'm connecting to another WiFi AP). Thank you! Intermittent packet loss every 5~ minutes Posted: 25 May 2022 07:24 PM PDT I've had intermitted packet loss almost exactly every 5 minutes for a few weeks now, and century link is doing jack shit to help out Stuff i've tried so far
Currently waiting for tech guy #2 from century link, hoping they can actually do something, BUT i've lost all faith in their ability to help, so was hoping reddit might be able too Here's a 20ish min pingplotter test of what's happening https://share.pingplotter.com/ZYGB4X8ggDK Am I right in guessing this is almost certainly on century link's end and I need to keep harassing them to fix it?
