Is Puffin Pro the only browser that can download directly to a cloud drive?

Puffin Pro has the ability to download directly to your Google drive or OneDrive storage. Is there any browser that lets you do that?

Cannot open pdf stored by Telegram in Android/data. Is there any app which can access the directory?

    Posted: 03 Apr 2022 09:37 PM PDT

Telegram stores the downloaded pdfs in Android/data and I cannot open any pdf because Android/data is restricted by the device.

Why did they do this? Does anyone know a workaround to this? My Device is POCO M2 Pro, Non-rooted. Should I downgrade? Will it raise security concerns if I downgraded? Is there even a way to downgrade without root?

I have tried a multitude of file explorer apps but none can copy to & from Android/data neither can the pdf viewers access the files stored in org.Telegram stored in Android/data.

Frustrated af, please help or suggest some app.

On the opposite end of the previous post: what are some ugly apps that you use because there's no better alternatives for it yet?

    Posted: 03 Apr 2022 01:42 PM PDT

for me it'll be Joint Pics, probably the best image joiner app I've used, the damn thing last updated in august of 2014 and still works flawlessly on Android 12.

if anyone know any better image joiner, do let me know.

    What's yours?

Calendar app that raises font size when zooming in?

    Posted: 04 Apr 2022 12:10 AM PDT

I use calendar a lot, especially Samsung and Google calendar apps. But both of them have too small font sizes. When zooming it is only the hours that vertically gets longer.

Is there a calendar app where you can raise the font size, when you zoom in? I don't want any systemic wise solutions or any accessebility advice. I only want a Calendar app that raises the font size when zooming in on week view.

Might be too specific but is there a PDF reader app that has horizontal continuous smooth scrolling that doesn't auto fix to one page (not two-page view) and can remove margins/lines between pages?

An app that fixes the "recent apps" lock feature.

    Posted: 04 Apr 2022 02:04 AM PDT

Hi. I have a OnePlus 9 from T-Mobile. I just had to install their update to Android 12. (Which "merged" OxygenOS with whatever Oppo uses and straight up removed or broke tons of features.)

I'm not happy; not only are all my settings reset and a launcher necessary, I've found at least one behavior that really, really is going to break things for me.

When looking at the "recent apps" list, there is an option to lock the apps. The expected behavior of this is that it will prevent the apps from closing.

The new behavior gives you more information about what it means for memory management, but... It does not prevent the apps from closing at all. One errant finger swipe, and whoops, chrome closed and there goes your incognito tabs! I leave things open there a lot as notes (especially for shopping), as well as having alternate logins for some websites.

Is there some kind of app that will change this behavior?

    Thank you!

Is there any launcher better than Nova launcher?

    Posted: 03 Apr 2022 06:49 PM PDT

I feel like I've had it for over 10 years and no complaints except one. The transitions from side to side have been the same the whole time in the zillions of updates not one person from nova launcher has thought to add some new transitions from page to page. Back in the iPhone jail break days I used to have a really cool app name barrel were all the little icons spun individually in a circle was so cute lol

Anyways any launcher better than Nova or is Nova the bees knees lol

Simple app to automatically turn off screen after a certain time of usage?

    Posted: 03 Apr 2022 02:00 PM PDT

I know there are bazillion of apps that limits daily usage or sets time limits for apps. But I need what the title says.

I let my 6-year-old daughter use an old android phone with 7 apps installed. And I want her to be able to use it only for 15 minutes after I unlock the phone. After that the phone should lock the screen. I don't need any tracking stats, app-based limiting options, etc.

If you know any apps paid or free, please let me know.

Is there an app that can change a URL to lead to your browser instead of the intended app?

    Posted: 03 Apr 2022 05:03 PM PDT

So I have relatives that are bad/lazy with tech and refuse to download any apps. They also hate being forced to make accounts. If I want to share a podcast with them for example, and the link that's shared only leads to the app, is there a quick way to convert the URL to open your browser instead automatically? As opposed to needing to manually cut it.

Here's an example for those not following. The Stitcher podcast app "share podcast" option always links to the app instead of the browser.

    Quick example-

    https://listen.stitcher.com/yvap/?af_dp=stitcher://episode/90484519&af_web_dp=https://www.stitcher.com/episode/90484519&deep_link_value=stitcher://episode/90484519

So I have to shorten it manually so it goes to the browser instead, skipping the need to download the app and make an account!

    I shorten it manually to-

    https://www.stitcher.com/episode/90484519

Voila. Is there an app that can automate this or not?

How do you use Signal or Telegram as an actual default messages app without forcing other people to use it?

    Posted: 03 Apr 2022 09:02 AM PDT

It feels super weird to me to "invite" someone to an app and change the way they've been messaging. Is there really no way to use the app as an actual default replacement messages app?

Can you people suggest me a app were I can organize android games in a "launcher"?

    Posted: 03 Apr 2022 02:56 PM PDT

To exemplify what I am searching for: https://youtu.be/iZ4SGpi7JtU?t=145 I want a launcher similar to this xiaomi "game turbo" app, lining up the icons in a single screen, etc.. I searched for this "game turbo" for my custom rom, but there's no port of it, it is tied with the security app of xiaomi. So, can you people suggest me a similar app? I am searching for it, but with no success, I just want a neat looking launcher, I don't care about the "turbo" aspect or anything.

Oh, and by the way, before someone suggest Launchbox (a very popular desktop launcher that was ported to android), I tried and the app is not really that good tbh

Looking for a period tracker app with minimal notifications

    Posted: 03 Apr 2022 01:18 PM PDT

I'm looking for a period tracker app that will only have a notification a few days before my period is due to start.

I have been using Flo, which used to work that way. For the past year or so, Flo is now spamming me with notifications daily. I've tried turning off various notifications but I still keep getting them. So if someone knows how to truly get those to stop, that would work too.

Looking for a better Android spell checker, that doesn't send what I type over the internet.

    Posted: 03 Apr 2022 03:50 PM PDT

The default spell checker suuuucks. Both the Google and Samsung keyboards.

Firstly, it is dumb. If I type assymmetri for example, it gives me zero options and doesn't know I'm trying to spell asymmetric.

Secondly, and this one drives me nuts, it "corrects" words that are actually correct! If I type Were then it changes it to We're. Sometimes I wonder if I have to correct the corrections more often than it catches actual mistakes...

Finally, my understanding is that apps like Grammarly send whatever you type to their servers, and I think the Google keyboard has this feature too. Because of my job (and also my own privacy concerns) this isn't acceptable.

Any suggestions of a good alternative?

    Similar apps to Stuff (Widget)

    Posted: 03 Apr 2022 03:34 PM PDT

I'm looking for a similar app in function to Stuff (first thing that comes up, it's a black folder).

For taking down quick notes and ideas, it's really good at doing just that, but it'd be really nice to have a second one so I wouldn't have to scroll through the long list I've accrued in the first one.

The most notable feature is that it takes only 2 taps to add or edit a bullet, while in other apps it takes much more. Plus, stuff just looks much nicer. You should really give it a try, even if you don't need to be productive. Having that ability to jot something down quickly is more useful than you think.

Color note is a good competitor, but it's not the same.

Searching a timer app that you can control the timer in notification bar

    Posted: 03 Apr 2022 03:23 PM PDT

I'm searching a app like the default timer of samsung APP, but one that I can set the timer countdown (in hours, minutes, and seconds) directly on notification bar, without opening the app. Is really like the one in default samsung app, that you can "drag" the hours/minutes with the finger. Exist one like this?
