I'm starting to give up Android Dev

    I'm starting to give up

    Posted: 29 Apr 2022 07:54 AM PDT

It's been almost a year since I started learning Android development and I still can't seem to find a job.

I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I learned, built my portfolio, poured my heart and soul into it and yet here I am 24, about to turn 25, and haven't started my career yet.

I graduated two years ago and I'm still unemployed. Shit like that messes with you man, you know?

Sorry for the rant. Got a lot on my chest I guess

    Are Instant Apps dead?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2022 05:20 AM PDT

I just checked the Play Store and I couldn't find a game with a "Try now" button and I also never encountered an instant app while browsing the web with my phone.

I wanted to ask the community:

    • Do you have an instant app in the store?

    • Did you ever encounter an instant app in the wild?

Is the User Messaging Platform (UMP) SDK mandatory in order to use Admob Ads, even if I still use the old deprecated Consent Library?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2022 02:56 PM PDT

I know that this question might not be suitable for this subreddit, maybe I should ask on /r/admob, but I hope some of you have experience with Admob, UMP or with the (Deprecated) Consent Library.

Currently my apps are still using the Deprecated Consent Library, for 2 reasons:

    1. I'm afraid of no-fill errors: developers are complayining that if the users won't Consent, the ads won't appear, even if they apply the bundle("npa", "1") setting before loading the ads. There was no problem in the old version, because even if they didn't gave their consent, the ads appeared (non-personalized). Is this issue still persist? Or was it fixed by Google? Have you ever had an issue with this?
    2. The consent form can't be customized. In the old version I've created the whole UI, with explanations, buttons, etc. I also added the possibility for the user to Purchase the no-ad version. With the new UMP SDK this is not possible. The other issue is that this UMP SDK won't offer me enough information regarding Consent status, like: User Consent OK; User didn't Consent; or Consent Unknown/NULL. Knowing these values, I might prompt to the user to buy the full version, but with the current UMP API I can't. Actually, I've found some shady Shared Preferences Key/Value pairs (used by UMP SDK) on Stackoverflow, so I could extract these values, but this isn't official, and I wouldn't access this data.

I just upgraded Admob to the latest version (20.6+) and with the latest Android/SKD API Changes, like Ad Id Zeros, and Google slowly enforcing Consent, Privacy Policy and other restrictions, I'm wondering if UMP is mandatory with Admob? Or is it recommended to use the new UMP when having Admob SDK integrated? What if I handle the Consent form (with my own implementation)? Does the UMP sets the Advertiser ID?

I've been trying for days to flash unlocked firmware on Galaxy S22 and OEM unlock does not show up!

    Posted: 29 Apr 2022 11:40 PM PDT

    As the title says.

I made the mistake of buying a Verizon carrier locked S22 Ultra. Verizon since "unlocked" the device and I'm able to use a T-Mobile SIM card, but I cannot get rid of the Verizon apps and the Verizon boot logo.

Long story short I have the latest SM-S908U1 XAA firmware and Odin just will not flash it. I'm using the patched version that has worked for me many times in the past.

I think part of the issue is that I OEM unlock is missing in the developer options. I've tried it all and it does not show up. I've changed the time. I've turned off auto updates. I even reset the entire phone.

    Nothing works!

Is it impossible to flash at this point?

Why my admob ads is not showing up is it because the app is still not live on playstore

    Posted: 29 Apr 2022 09:25 PM PDT

Hello, I have implemented admob ads in my app. I have changed the test id for both AppId and UnitID to their original ids before creating the signed bundle for the Playstore.

it is showing ' required review '

While the test ads were working fine, I had assumed that ads will appear within 24 to 48 hours based on the document, but it has now been 5 days, and the ads still aren't showing up.

Is it because the app is in review and not yet live on Play Store?

ListView vs RecyclerView for small list?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2022 01:14 PM PDT

I have a list that will have a minimum of 0 items, and a max of 2 items. Each item also has several views. I typically use recycler views for lists but in this instance I'm not sure if it's worth the extra code for a list so small

    Google Play Console Review Times

    Posted: 29 Apr 2022 12:31 PM PDT

These days Google play console has taken it to the next level. Our app is stuck in 'In Review ' past 24 hours in the closed testing alpha track!

What is the point of alpha track then if they are going to take the that long in alpha?

Then there is no telling whether it'll get stuck in production again or not. This whole review process needs to happen only on production and not on alpha track. Scan for viruses and be done with it. Companies have deadlines, release dates, campaigns to run! So much for launching anything on time.

2022: Best alternative to Admob for Android App

2022: Best alternative to Admob for Android App

Google Admob kicked me out for "invalid traffic". They also said that I will not receive a final payout for that reason, and they kept the 35,000$ I made in that month. As they don't have a support, I was not able to even reach out and ask for the reason! Because nothing was invalid about my traffic. I also tried opening a new Admob account, but it got suspended immediately. I'm done with Admob.

I heard MoPub is good, so I tried AppLovin, as MoPub is a part of AppLovin now. However, I only added it to a few apps yet and the result is bad: In the last 3-4 days I had 36,000 impressions and made 4$. That's a joke. With Admob that would have been around 50$. [Most of my users, 90%, come from the US...]

    https://preview.redd.it/omb9dvkr9fw81.png?width=1644&format=png&auto=webp&s=8b9146e1c5ad3c4ea214696a22fda18e53c93715

I also tried FAN. But FAN moved to only bidding. I'm not too familiar with that bidding system. But as I understand it, you MUST use a different ad provider for that reason. Because if you choose "No mediation platform (Audience Network only)", they say "To integrate bidding successfully, you'll need to use one of our mediation partners."

And as I understand, I cannot choose Admob as a mediation partner because for that I would need an Admob account - but they banned me. And if I choose a different mediation partner, why don't I go directly to that partner...?

However, I really need ads back in the apps. The server costs are insanely high and as Google Admob deceived me by 35,000$, without even giving a reason, I'm in big financial trouble...

What do you recommend me to do?

    ---

Edit: Here is a screenshot from Adsense as someone asked for it. I thought 30k EUR would be around 35k $. So I correct: Admob has deceived me by 30,000 $.

    Google Play Categories

    Posted: 29 Apr 2022 12:01 PM PDT

    Hi,

Is it possible to put an app in the games category which really isn't 100% a game? For example, an app that allows you to lip-sync your photos to any audio or song and share them with your friends to see which is funnier for example. Could Google deny it or tell me to change the category? What is really a game after all?

    Android Unlocking Issue

    Posted: 29 Apr 2022 10:03 AM PDT

Hey! I have a Redmi Note 10S phone, and I really like it. The problem is that I don't like MIUI. I have been trying to unlock its bootloader for at least 3 days now, but I just can't. For some reason, "adb devices" command works. By rebooting to fastboot mode using "adb reboot bootloader", the phone shows the fastboot logo, but "fastboot devices" returns nothing. Even Mi Unlock tool doesnt recognize it in this state. When I do "adb reboot fastboot" it reboots to FASTBOOTD. In FASTBOOTD mode, "fastboot devices" work, and Mi Unlock tool recognizes my phone but says: Read failed, please refresh or reboot the device. I tried that, but no luck. I installed all the proper drivers on my PC, I reinstalled adb and fastboot, I enabled USB debugging and OEM unlocking, did the Mi unlock thing where you have to attach your device to your mi account, and even tried it on another PC, but things didn't work. I even tried Xiaomi Tool 2, or however it's called, and that has the same problem. I reboot to FASTBOOTD, it recognizes it, I select unlock bootloader, and it tries to restart the phone to fastboot. The phone reboots to fastboot and then the program says device not found or disconnected. I even tried other community-made tools, but no luck. It seems programs mistake FASTBOOTD for fastboot and the other way around. Any idea on how to fix this? Any help on discord is appreciated: avunit#7386 If you want to help me, write a comment saying that you can help and message me on discord, it's easier. Thanks!

Java vs Kotlin, can Google reconsider a change?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2022 05:19 PM PDT

    Hello,

    I think coding in well known Java is much better comparing to coding in Kotlin in many ways. I wish Google returned back to Java. What are your thoughts, any chance? I respect to all the efforts on Kotlin but wish all the efforts was for improve/update Java language. Some main reasons;

    • Java is easier to learn as it's similar to other bigs like C++, C# etc., mature and also have much more resources.
    • Java codes looks cleaner and more understandable.
    • Kotlin looks like a scripting language rather than a solid language like Java or C variants.
    • Variable function declarations, use of colons and var vals etc. are ugly imo. Kotlin codes look like a scripting or JS framework language rather than a solid language like Java or C variants.

How to execute the "play route" button in the Android Emulator Extended Controls through adb.exe?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2022 06:35 PM PDT

How to execute the "play route" button in the Android Emulator Extended Controls through adb.exe?

I am very new to android-sdk/emulators, but have a need to automate the "play route" button in the extended controls of the emulator. I need to be able to manually create routes, but then cycle through each route and play each route with a batch script.

Or, if there's a way to utilize the "emulator emu geo nmea (sentences)" functionality, that could work as well with routes that I've previously built. I can't seem to get the nmea functionality to cooperate, but the "geo fix (coordinates) works, it's just choppy in its movement.

How can I tell what the command line arguments are behind the "play route" button (and any of the other extended controls for that matter)?

Thanks for the patience: I'm new.

[Jetpack Compose] How to have multiple column in LazyColumn?

So what is the alternative to RecyclerView with GridLayoutManager in Jetpack Compose?
