Motorola's "Ready For" external desktop (and more) mode is amazing. Posted: 28 Apr 2022 11:01 PM PDT I've been playing with my Motorola Edge 30 Pro (Edge+ 2022 in the US) for about a week now and the Ready For feature is absolutely fantastic. In my book, it more than makes up for the minor features of the phone that aren't perfect. Gorilla Glass 3 instead of the latest hotness? Not ideal, but also not remotely a deal breaker. Plastic phone? It's pretty damn solid, no flexing, no creaking. Latest flagship processor. 12 gigs of ram, 256 storage, 144 hz screen, 68 watt charging that fills it in half an hour or less... there's nothing here I'm missing. The price I paid was pretty reasonable for a flagship power phone that has an ultra clean and snappy Android without Samsung's massive bloat either. I'd be satisfied with just the phone as-is. Biggest concern is Motorola's lackluster track record for timely updates. And then you hook up an external screen. I have a portable 15 inch usb-c driven monitor already, that I bought to run as a second screen on my laptop. Plug in the cable, boom, full screen video, or gaming, or a desktop mode that's legitimately useful. The phone automatically becomes a trackpad, too, which is nice quality of life. Playing a game using my bluetooth gaming controller on the external screen is just fantastic, it's like a miniature gaming console. It works over Miracast too, just cast the screen to a TV, it's laggier than the ultra snappy cable connection due to bandwidth issues but perfectly usable. The phone obviously has all the power in the world to run any game made for Android. Honestly, this is easily all the "laptop" I'll need for travel purposes, and when not traveling the external screen still comes in handy for a quick gaming session or whatever. There's some improvements to be made to Ready For I suppose but in it's current state it's still an absolutely fantastic value add for anyone who can use an external screen. This is literally a better Dex than Dex. [link] [comments] | ||

The idea of a sustainable $1300 phone Posted: 29 Apr 2022 09:30 PM PDT I believe someone (perhaps Fairphone or Samsung?) could make a high-end phone that's also self-repairable and can be used for a very long time. Here is what I think it could include:
