Toss up for a creative/engineering laptop/hybrid Posted: 31 Mar 2022 02:17 AM PDT Hi! I'm looking at starting an engineering course in July (Mechatronics) and I'm looking for a very specific kind of laptop hybrid. I only have a limited budget $1200-$1500 AUD and I'm looking for a device that will last me through uni. The kicker is I would like to be able to use it for digital art as well - so I've narrowed my choices to two specific devices for now but I'm open to others. Basing this on the fact I'll probably need a dedicated GPU for modelling complex parts, these are the two options I've found in the price range but I'm not exactly sure which would be better. 1 - Preowned surface book 2 I7 - 8650 (1.9ghz - 2.1ghz) 16gb ram 512gb flash memory GTX 1060 6gb 2- Preowned Acer ConceptD 3 Ezel I7- 10750H 16gb ram 512gb memory GTX 1650 Max Q I'm not sure if the newer CPU is worth sacrificing a slightly stronger GPU. Any help? [link] [comments]

Posted: 31 Mar 2022 12:15 AM PDT I've just purchased a used Dell Inspiron 13 7370 and it works very well. I'm currently on linux but have also tested it with Windows and the battery life is just terrible. It lasts 1 hour and a half tops. I really don't want to spend a ton of money on a Dell battery, so I've found this model: indmird f62g0. I think it's chinese and it goes for 45 euros, whereas the Dell original one costs double. I wanted your opinion before buying anything. Do you think it is a good idea to go for the cheaper battery? Will it be good? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Trouble reconnecting to home wifi Posted: 30 Mar 2022 11:42 PM PDT As the title says, my laptop tends to have trouble maintaining a stable connection to my home wifi when I take it from home to work. It will connect after a couple of minutes, then disconnect and repeat until a stable connection is established. Is this common? Does anyone else have this issue? Are my expectations too high for it to immediately establish a connection? Could it be DHCP issues? Am I expected to unplug my router everytime I come home? Any advice is welcome. Is there anything on the market at the moment that fits what I'm looking for? Posted: 30 Mar 2022 10:31 PM PDT -1800 dollars or less -slim form factor -14 or 15 inch (would consider 16 inch if it's rather compact) -rtx 3060 or better -intel 12th gen or AMD Ryzen 9 6900hs/x -preferably any color other than black -preferably has high refresh display -at least one stick of upgradeable RAM (aka not soldered to board) -no excessive "gamer" aesthetic or RGB Please don't suggest the Asus G14, i had one and it was a POS. I'd also like to avoid Asus in general. Thanks [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 Mar 2022 07:55 PM PDT So ill try to keep it simple: I have a Dell Latitude 5404 Rugged, but I need a better rugged laptop that works for my specifications and has far better specs, but the ones im looking at can be upwards of 2k dolla bills and there is no way in hek im going to pay that., so i want to try to go down the alternative route as it may be far cheaper, and give me some good practice for customization. The alternative route is I want to open em up and upgrade my laptop's CPU, and GPU , but i have no idea where to start looking for the appropriate parts to that would be compatible, I dont even know how to tell what is and isnt compatible. How do i know what gpu and cpu would be compatible to put in, and how would i tell if it is -- additionally where would i find the upgrades (parts). any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance :) [link] [comments]

is a lenovo legion laptop functional without its battery? Posted: 30 Mar 2022 05:41 PM PDT
Posted: 30 Mar 2022 05:36 PM PDT I work in the internet business, so I'm using my laptop daily, opening and closing it 20+ times a day, and it gets tossed around a lot. I am currently using a 2012 Dell Latitude E6430 with 4g capability, Bluetooth, fingerprint scanner, touchscreen, and a REQUIRED LAN port. I pretty much just need the 4g and LAN port as requirements. With 8gb of ram, 500gb ssd, a ceramic outer case, and a carrying handle, it's easily the best laptop I've ever owned, and I'm sad to see it slowly getting the point where technology may be too new to work with it. My biggest issue with newer laptops is the keyboards, I don't like what ASUS or Lenovo has to offer, I like a good click, but it can be membrane. I have a budget of $400 (no more) and don't mind shopping between 2016-2020 or used. Any suggestions? *Note: I would like something that's newer than a Haswell processor, they are good, but that processor is my current limitation in my current laptop. **Note: I don't need a internal GPU, I will probably never game on it.
